Today on the podcast we have guest Caroline Dooner. Caroline is the humorist and author of The F*ck It Diet. She spent years as a performer, and dieted like it was her job (because it kind of was). After healing her relationship to food, she's been sharing what she learned ever since. She writes a lot about *why* we have such a dysfunctional relationship with food and weight.   You can find more at thefuckitdiet.com and can follow her on instagram @thefuckitdiet.   The Summer Reset is a free mini-course created for you to help you realize this fact: you're already summer body ready. And what this means to you is, instead of constantly trying to change your body every year summer rolls around, you can choose to reset how you view your body. So you can feel comfortable and gain confidence in the body you have right here, right now. The Summer Reset will help you reset your mindset towards food, fitness and body this summer so you can stop waiting and start LIVING NOW.    In this episode we discuss: Caroline shares about who she is and what led her to write the book, the F*ck It Diet. Stories behind writing the book the F*ck It Diet you may not know! The similarities and differences between the F*ck It Diet and intuitive eating. Why we are not struggling with food addictions, but rather diet addiction. Understanding how we are not addicted to sugar. Caroline shares about her new book, Tired As F*ck. Imagine building a successful foodie career you love, and then having the pandemic come and suddenly wipe out your income. Imagine taking that disaster and turning it into triumph by using your time and skills in a way you’d never had a chance to explore, discovering new abilities and talents in the process. Imagine seeing your life change into something you’d hardly have been able to imagine possible, where you get to spend your working hours doing something you are completely passionate about. That’s what happened with Caroline Chambers. She pulled herself up by her own bootstraps and, with a lot of hard work and persistence, built herself a solid career in recipe development. Then, overnight, all her contracts dried up. The pandemic hit and no-one had a marketing budget to spend on recipe development anymore. An empty schedule, and no money coming in, meant it was time to think different. But if the big corporations weren’t willing to spend on recipes, the people were. Everyone quarantined in their homes without ready-made food suddenly wished they knew how to cook—and Caroline decided to help them. Through her website, a weekly newsletter, and eventually teaching online cooking classes with Airsubs, she soon became a go-to for people wanting to learn how to make simple, delicious meals with basic ingredients and a limited amount of time. In return, they payrolled her through subscription services and pay-per-seat online classes.   HIGHLIGHTS: What does a freelance recipe developer do?   How Caroline transitioned from catering to recipe development.  The business pivots made in light of COVID.  Juggling cooking classes with being a full-time mom. Building real online communities through cooking classes. Tips for joining an online cooking class. Creating multiple streams of income through new online platforms.    QUOTABLES:  “When you work for yourself especially, but also in a more traditional career, these opportunities just present themselves. And you either grab them or you don't. And that kind of decides where you wind up in life.” - Caroline Chambers “Some people would find it awkward to talk about finances and talk about income and money. But I think especially women working in a non-traditional space, I think it's really empowering to share wins like this.” - Caroline Chambers   HUNGRY FOR MORE? My guest this week is cook and author Caroline Wright. At the age of 32, Caroline was diagnosed with a brain tumor and given one year to live. Three years later she’s beaten the odds, and is full of enthusiasm and hope and vitality. We discussed her very moving children’s book Lasting Love (affiliate link), which is a love letter to her children and also to any family dealing with the loss of a loved one. To be honest, this was not the conversation I was expecting. I thought we’d talk a lot about the pain and sadness of saying good-bye, but instead we talked about things like the profound lifestyle changes Caroline has made since her diagnosis, her ongoing work as a cookbook author, learning to live with fear, and finding what makes you happy regardless of circumstance. I really enjoyed getting to know Caroline through our conversation. Topics we touched on included: Caroline’s surprising diagnosis of a glioblastoma three years ago Taking charge of one’s health and healthcare The value of an anti-inflammatory diet Caroline’s current health status How my guest has changed from pre- to post-cancer The balance that Caroline has found as part of her healing Taking control of how we direct our energy Dealing with the unknown in the context of Covid-19 Learning to live with fear, and still finding joy Finding what makes you happy regardless of circumstances How Caroline came to write a book for her two sons about dying and a mother’s eternal love What we most want for our kids My guest’s thoughts about the afterlife The indelible imprint our love and energy leave on others The ability that is within all of us to do extremely hard things when required to The mistaken ideas we tend to have about “cancer patients” To sign up for Caroline's newsletter, visit her writing website, and learn more about her cooking at her food website and through her recipes. Her previous books include (affiliate links): Cake Magic Twenty-Dollar, Twenty-Minute Meals* (*For Four People) Catalan Food: Culture and Flavors from the Mediterranean Caroline Wright is an author and a cook. She was working on her third cookbook in the winter of 2017 when she was diagnosed with a glioblastoma and given one year to live. Her diagnosis brought drastic changes to her lifestyle, including the foods she cooked and ate, and brought her life and work into sharp focus—on her two little boys (then one and four years old). Now her days are spent cooking and writing, still passionately, while fighting her cancer and focusing on her family. She’s working primarily on writing children’s books and a memoir about her life since her diagnosis. Caroline lives in Seattle with her family, and she writes every day.

Despite her quiet humility she’s also a fashion influencer and paparazzi favourite. Caroline started her career as a management consultant working in San Francisco, Singapore and London. In this episode of Unravelling, I had the PLEASURE of speaking to the wonderful Caroline D'Arcy of Inti-Mate about female pleasure and the power it holds... Caroline D'Arcy is the founder of Inti-Mate, the growing hub of sex education for grown ups. She is a somatic sex educator, personal coach and, most of all, pleasure enthusiast. She believes that for centuries, we have grown-up with a lack of pleasure-infused sex education, and therefore solely relying on damaging cultural messaged leaves us hating about how our bodies look, having no idea how to influence our own libidos and worrying about how to really please our partners. Caroline is on a mission for this to be the last generation where female sexuality is masked in fear and shame. In this episode we discuss... How Caroline came to do this work. Exactly how the female arousal system works, how different women's pleasure is to men's, and how we can work WITH that rather than avoid it. How important our state of mind is when it comes to sexual pleasure and intimacy. Shame around sexuality and pleasure, and how we can start to shift this. Why it is the time to start shifting the current outlook on sexuality and pleasure. And much, much more! Resources we mention from the show... ABOUT CAROLINE MAKEPEACE Caroline Makepeace is co-founder of y Travel Blogwith her husband and two daughter. They create inspirational and epic content that provides useful tools, strategies, and resources to help readers unplug from the chaos life, to reconnect to what matters and to travel more and create better memories. Follow Caroline on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. FAMILY ROAD TRIP TIPS Consider where you would like to go to figure out how much planning you will need to do ahead of time rather that just going with the flow. For instance if you will need to book accommodations ahead of time you will need to leave yourself time to get the there in case of traffic. Keep in mind the amount of hours you will need to drive to each location you would like to go. Make sure to not overextend yourself driving. You will enjoy the trip as well as the destinations if you give yourself more leisurely drive times. If you are a family with kids it is nice to get them interested in the planning phase of your road trip. Maybe having them pick some stops to make or even the places you eat. Having your kids help will get them more eager and excited for the long journey you are taking. Depending on how long your road trip is going to be you may want to think about seperating your items into different containers. This can help you avoid the time consuming task of having to dig through everything you have packed just to find, say the notebook you packed for your kids. The more organized you can be from the get go the better you are. If you have not gone on a road trip with your kids before make sure to pack small games, books, snacks, etc. This will help keep your kids entertained during the hours you will be driving. Google maps is great to plan out your stops. But Google Sheets is also great to create a detailed spreadsheet of everything and then you can share this with others on your road trip so that they can see what is planned for each day. You can save a decent amount of money on hotel rooms if you opt for camping sites or even renting through Airbnb. You should also keep an eye on parking because some hotels you will not have free parking. Toll roads can also up your costs quite significantly if you are not keeping track of the amounts. If you do plan on going through tolls, make sure you do keep cash in your car otherwise you will get fined if you can not pay the toll. FAVORITE TRAVEL GEAR Caroline loves to bring her KeensHiking sandals with her on road trips, and when it is a little bit colder she will bring her Merrellhiking shoes. She also loves to pack her PrAnaclothes, that are comfortable active clothes. Caroline Gleich is a magnet for adventure.  She is one of the ski mountaineering world's most prolific skiers.  She has been on the cover of many skiing magazines, premiered in Warren Miller films, and skied some of the most challenging lines around the world. Most notable and recent was that she was the 4th person ever and first woman to ski all 90 lines in the Chuting Gallery in the Wasatch Range.  Caroline will be the first to say, "Ski Mountaineering is really dangerous."  She is also an environmental activist. Backcountry skiing is so much more than being a skilled skier.  You have to have intuition; when to summit and when not to ski. When to push past the shaky heart in the throat fear and when to listen to it.  So why does she do it?  This podcast is about so much more than just adventures and how to decide what to do when faced with a challenge.  It's about how to stand up to cyber bullies, it's about gender equality, what it's really like to be an endurance athlete and how isolating that can be, and it's about what it really means to be brave.  Listen Now Watch Caroline's documentary with REI and read more about it here.  Topics Discussed in the Podcast  Her journey to becoming a ski mountaineer How to know when to turn back and manage fear and danger Caroline's challenges with cyber bullying How Caroline makes a living as a professional athlete and the path to becoming a sponsored athlete Gender bias and what it's like to be a female skier  What it's like to be a 5 ft tall Ski Mountaineer Links Caroline's Instagram Carolines Website My Facebook Group: Plant-Powered Tribe The Hoodie I designed with Primal Support the Show If you like my show, I'm aiming to make it an ad-free zone using crowdfunding to support it.  All donations will go directly to the production of the show.
