Boston Massachusetts Suspicious Death of her Father

Boston Massachusetts, Suspicious Death of her Father. Was It Murder? The Boston we know today is in many ways different from the Boston of the 1970s. Organized Crime was Rampant in Boston, Massachusetts and the surrounding areas. There were prominent Italian Mob Organized Crime Gangs. Also Irish Organized Crime groups flourished and prospered. There were many accusations and subsequent arrests and convictions in local and state police during that time. There were also FBI Agents arrested and convicted for crimes while working with organized crime group informants. Ann tells the story and more as a guest on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, which is available as a free podcast on their website on platforms like Apple, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Ann Flynn Dickinson is our guest and tells the tale from her childhood all the way to her adult years of the mystery surrounding the death of her Father Owen Flynn. Check out the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. Boston is a city with a storied history of resilience and rebellion and is no stranger to mysteries. From its cobblestone streets to its glittering skyline, the city holds secrets, and some stories never fade. One such enigma dates back to December 1972, when Owen Flynn, a West End bartender, vanished under suspicious circumstances. His case intertwines with the city's dark era of organized crime and has sparked renewed interest thanks to his determined daughter, Ann Flynn Dickinson. Look for more on the story in platforms like Medium and Newsbreak. A City Steeped in Organized Crime The Boston of the 1970s was a hotbed for organized crime. Italian mobsters and Irish gangs like the Winter Hill Gang ruled the streets, and corruption infiltrated law enforcement, even touching the FBI. This tumultuous backdrop framed Flynn's mysterious death, which some suspect was no accident. Boston Massachusetts, Suspicious Death of her Father. Was It Murder? The interview with here is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, which is available as a free podcast on their website on platforms like Apple, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Flynn disappeared on a frigid December evening, leaving his car abandoned on the Granite Avenue Bridge. Though initially presumed a suicide, the details raised eyebrows. The low elevation of the bridge and icy patches on the Neponset River made such a scenario improbable. The lack of evidence or a clear motive for suicide only deepened the mystery. A Daughter's Quest for Answers Ann Flynn Dickinson was just a child when her father went missing. Now an adult, she is determined to uncover the truth. "I knew something was wrong when my mother said he didn't come home," she recalls. Her father's death certificate listed the cause as "unknown," a frustratingly vague conclusion. Keep informed by following the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest, Newsbreak, Medium and other social media platforms. In 1972, Flynn had just purchased a new car and a home, suggesting he had reasons to live. He was also a silent partner in a new bar, Downey and Judge, in Boston's West End. But borrowing $10,000, likely from dangerous sources, may have placed him in peril. Boston Massachusetts, Suspicious Death of her Father. Organized Crime's Shadow The timing of Flynn's disappearance coincided with a bloody gang war between James "Whitey" Bulger's Winter Hill Gang and the Mullen Gang. Bulger, who later became one of America's most notorious gangsters, was known for his brutal methods. Could Flynn have been a victim of gang violence? The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, which is available as a free podcast on their website on platforms like Apple, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. In her pursuit of the truth, Dickinson even wrote to Bulger while he was imprisoned. Surprisingly, he replied. While Bulger denied involvement, his letter hinted at other possibilities, including betrayal by business partners or mistaken identity. His chilling tone left more questions than answers. The Granite Avenue Bridge Discovery The most haunting piece of the puzzle remains Flynn's abandoned car on the Granite Avenue Bridge. Dickinson herself identified it while being driven to her aunt's home. The car, locked with the keys on the dashboard, was never thoroughly investigated. Police dismissed it as a "casual search," neglecting to dust for fingerprints or search for evidence. Boston Massachusetts, Suspicious Death of her Father. Platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify make these stories more accessible, allowing listeners to become informed and vigilant.  A month later, Flynn's body washed up on Carson Beach in South Boston. Officially, he was presumed drowned, but law enforcement and family members questioned this conclusion. Quincy Police Lt. Bob Gillan, a seasoned diver, dismissed the notion of suicide, stating, "It doesn't pass the sniff test." Echoes of Boston's Gangland Era Flynn's story resurfaced during Bulger's high-profile trial in 2013. Families of other victims approached law enforcement, wondering if their loved ones had also fallen prey to Bulger's gang. Flynn's case fit a pattern, abandoned vehicles, missing persons, and unsolved murders. Be sure to follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. Bulger's letter to Dickinson acknowledged the brutal realities of gangland Boston, suggesting Flynn's death might have been orchestrated for insurance money or due to business disputes. Yet, he maintained his innocence regarding Flynn's demise. The Legacy of a Mystery Decades later, Flynn's death continues to captivate true crime enthusiasts and historians. His daughter's persistence has kept the story alive, highlighting the murky intersection of organized crime, corruption, and loss in 1970s Boston. Boston Massachusetts, Suspicious Death. The case has gained attention through books like Code Black by Bill Fleming and Joe Peters and podcasts on platforms like Spotify and Apple. Social media outlets like Facebook and Instagram also amplify the story, bringing it to a new generation. A City's Unanswered Questions Boston's history is riddled with tales of intrigue, but few are as personal as Owen Flynn's. His death is more than a cold case; it's a reflection of a city grappling with its identity during a turbulent time. For Ann Flynn Dickinson, the quest for answers remains a deeply personal journey. Boston Massachusetts, Suspicious Death of her Father. Was It Murder? As Boston moves forward, the shadows of its past linger. Was Flynn's death a tragic accident, a calculated murder, or something in between? The truth remains elusive, but the story of Owen Flynn ensures the question will not be forgotten. Welcome to Episode 380 of The Outdoor Biz Podcast and my conversation with Joe Peters, Marketing Director, Strategic Advisor, and Creative Ideator with Vasque Footwear. Vasque is asking people log outside. And if you're not careful they just might take your phone and make that a formal request! Brought to you by The Big Gear Show! You can contact me here: email: rick@theoutdoorbizpodcast.com or leave me a message on Speakpipe! Presented to by: Show Notes How did you get connected to Vasque? It was 11 years ago. I've been with Vasque in one way, shape, or form for 11 years now. Vasque is the outdoor brand within the Red Wing Shoe Company. So Red Wing Boots has been around for more than 115 years. I was looking for boots online. I was on jcrew.com shopping for Boots. For Red Wing Heritage Boots. Then for whatever reason, I moved to click on the careers tab and found a job in of all things demand planning. I threw my name into the hat for that and that started my career at Red Wing Shoe Company. How did you get into the Outdoor Industry? I would say the outdoor industry kind of found me more than I was out to find a job in the outdoor industry. I didn't know it existed before I found Red Wing and by proxy Vasque. Now you're, after all these experiences, you are the marketing director for Vasque, right? So what's a day in the life for Joe as the marketing director? For the Vasque brand specifically? That's a great question. I mean, it depends upon the day, right? That's one of the beauties of this job. It's one of the things that I just love about it is, no day is the same. There are elements of my days that are planned and elements that are very much unplanned. I typically on a general day try to carve out 45 minutes to not be on a Zoom call, or not be in a meeting and you know, journal and think and assess. But I have to be very deliberate with that because if I didn't, I would be in meetings from eight to five every single. The beauty of my role is I need to keep an eye outside of the walls of Vasque. Looking at culture, looking at the outdoor industry as a whole. Looking at everything within the cultural zeitgeist to ensure that this brand is staying relevant. How much travel is there, is there a lot of travel other than trade shows? I would say. Yeah, there was a lot, a lot of travel before the pandemic. There was a point where, I've got two kids who are now six and a half, and five Once I landed in Tokyo and my wife sent me a video of my little kids. They were probably, three and four at the time, swinging on the swing set in the backyard. And there was an airplane that flew up over the house and both of them pointed at the airplane and they said, daddy. Yea, so there was a point where I was traveling a lot. You recently posted something about changes at Vasque. Can you share anything about that with us yet? Yeah, we're finally beyond the lockdown. So it's a new brand platform for Vasque. We know through our research that the number one reason people go outdoors is to find a sense of escape from the stressors of our daily life lives. And we did this research both pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and post-pandemic. We found that the average American at the height of the pandemic was spending 12 hours a day staring at a screen. Let that sink in for a minute. 12 hours a day. And while that number has thankfully come down as the world is started to open back up, the average American now as of 2023, late 2022, still spent seven hours looking at screens per day. With that research, we identified the simple fact that it's possible that screens play a major role in deterring people from going outside. So the new log outside platform is really out to mindfully change that, and really gently pull people off of their screens if only for 30 minutes a day So how's it work? It's kind of a multifaceted approach. We flipped all of our channels with a new aesthetic. We're not telling people to throw their phones away or anything like that. These things have unlocked opportunities we didn't know possible. Right? We're basically trying to illustrate the fact that there are real tangible things just outside the screen. And we've kind of really flipped most of our channels to be more of a gentle invitation slash reminder that life exists outside this thing. How were you introduced to the outside lifestyle? Oh man, I grew up on a small acreage outside of a small town in rural Minnesota. Some of my first memories, I was probably five or six years old, and I was just out. We had some acres and I would just go out in the morning on a Saturday with a backpack and spend the day out there exploring. How'd you get into cycling? I got into cycling, during college up in Duluth. We utilized cycling as a recovery mechanism. I was a baseball pitcher. And that's what we would do on our days off. We would cycle or we would run, et cetera. So I got into cycling a little bit. Then after college,  did a bike ride across the state of Iowa called the Rag Brai. What other outdoor activities do you do? We camp in the backyard quite a bit. We're lucky enough to live right above the Mississippi River in St. Paul. And we have a waterfall across the street from our house that runs into the Mississippi River. It's called Shadow Falls. And you know, I look at my childhood experience of having such easy access. to being outside in a very safe way. I grew up out in the country. My children are growing up in the middle of twin cities. But we're so blessed to have a ton of green space around our house. So I spun up this little Shadow Falls Explorers Club. There are three, well, there are four members counting my wife, so my two children, myself, and my wife. And, we try to get out and become as familiar as possible with our surroundings so they're comfortable. we got all the gear we need. So I do a lot of hiking with my kids. I was a swimmer growing up as well, so I do a fair amount of swimming in the summer and a lot of cycling. What is, what are your suggestions and advice for folks that want to get into the Outdoor Biz? I think just being interested in the business side of it, I guess, right? There's no shortage of people that are interested in the outdoors. Having the opportunity to work in an industry that empowers so many people to live healthy lives is super attractive. It's a great, great place to work. I think, really subscribing to the OIA. So much great research is made available, in bits and pieces from the OIA. What's your favorite piece of outdoor gear under a hundred dollars? Oh gosh. We're gonna put the air quotes on gear and I'm gonna do a PSA. My favorite piece of outdoor gear that's most critical to my longevity and my success is an eight-ounce bottle of sunscreen. Gotta protect yourself from the sun tangentially to that I suppose is one of those big, you know, uh, bucket hats from Outdoor Research that protect your face and your neck from the UV rays that can really get people into some trouble. What are a couple of your favorite books? You know, my reading list as of late is, um, really not that interesting. Reports, Spreadsheets, I'm reading the Harvard Business Review collection on Strategy, Managing People, Leadership, Change Management, those are good books, et cetera. I would say that kind of the first book that I read that really opened my eyes to like the sense of adventure was probably something that's been brought up hundreds of times, but it's a book called Into Thin Air by John Krakauer. Bill Bryson, all of his hits are amazing. So those are some of the few. I'm reading a book right now by the manager of the Grateful Dead. It's fascinating. About the early days, kind of the trajectory of what I'm gonna go on the record and say to be the best band in the world. Is there anything else you'd like to say to or ask of our listeners? Oh man, thank you, for listening. Thank you for making it all the way here. I appreciate the time. I would say a plug for Vasque. If you know about us through the years, check us out again. We're definitely evolving the way we're operating. Our products are evolving the way you go outside. And this new brand platform is really, We hope is impactful to the betterment of people's lives. And I say that so genuinely. It's something that we're really proud of, we're really passionate about. The last thing would be if you're outside, good on ya. And if you're not, try to find 30 minutes today and get out there. Follow up with Joe @hellojoepeters on Instagram Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin. I'm on all the channels. A wide ranging conversation with singer-songwriter Joe Peters, PhD. Joe has released over a dozen CDs of original songs. He grew up in the American Midwest during the 1960s and 70s, and his songs hearken back to a time when the youth of the planet sought the experience of peace, love and adventure, and expressed this search in their music.  He spent many years studying, traveling and working overseas, returning to the U.S. in 2006 to embark on a full-time career in music. Joe's nature-based background, his study of Eastern philosophies and his scientific bent all inform my songwriting Joe is the former president of the Songwriters Association of Midnorth Indiana. His music has been frequently featured on  folk radio stations around the nation and abroad, both broadcast and online.  His song, Sail Away  won the first Blooming-Tunes songwriting contest in 2009 (Bloomington, Indiana). His original musical slide show, Root of the Matter, is featured on the website of Catholic Relief Services, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.Find Joe's music online:www.joedaiwarriors.com https://www.facebook.com/joedaiwarriors/https://www.facebook.com/joe.peters.and.friendshttps://www.n1m.com/joepetershttps://joedaiwarriors.bandcamp.com/ http://www.reverbnation.com/joepetershttps://soundcloud.com/joedaiwarriorswww.youtube.com/user/joedaiwarriorsAnd, to learn more about the other artists mentioned in this podcast...Dawn Ellerbeckhttps://dawnellerbeck.bandcamp.com/releaseshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=preYvRiuX08Michael Kelseyhttps://michaelkelsey.com/Michel McNevinhttps://michaelmcnevin.com/

Talking Out Your Glass podcast

Sally, a humanoid ragdoll created by Dr. Finkelstein in Tim Burton's 1993 stop-motion film The Nightmare Before Christmas, provided the primary inspiration for Peter Muller’s groundbreaking functional glass. The furnace worker turned flameworker modeled his trademark glass “quilting” technique after the patchwork and stitching of Sally’s dress. Instantly embraced by the pipe community, this aesthetic along with the artist’s development and mastery of related techniques, led to the most successful work of his multifarious career.   Muller’s voodoo doll bubblers and button-eyed patchwork puppet pipes push the boundaries of functional glass and are easily recognizable in top-notch glass collections. “Pipes travel all around and get shared with different users. From a collector’s perspective, I can imagine it’s wonderful to have anyone using or viewing a piece know who made it based entirely on the strength of its aesthetic.”   In the hills of beautiful Southern Vermont where he resides with his wife and daughter, Muller takes pipe making to new heights. In 1999, he began exploring glass as an apprentice at a small glass facility based at Lunt Silversmith’s in Western Massachusetts. Working in this high volume production setting for more than a year provided the skills to gain further employment with various studio glass artists in Western Mass and Southern Vermont. The work he created ranged from Italian goblets to large scale blown sculpture. Over a decade at the furnace he learned how molten glass moves and used his technical prowess to design and execute his own unique body of work.    In 2001, Muller established Afternoon Glass Designs with a vision to create glass that captures the whimsical and fanciful essence of the animations, illustrations, and books that inspired his passion for the arts as a child. The artist hoped that through his designs, adults and children alike could effortlessly engage with the arts and be inspired by the limitless possibilities of the imagination.   This vision and aesthetic, while established for his soft glass, continues to serve as Muller’s north star for functional work. In recent years he has participated in various solo and group exhibitions, live demos, and regular drops of work all over the US and Canada. In June 2017, Ruckus Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, presented Seamless, the most comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s full body of work including functionals, collabs, early soft glass vessels, and wall mount displays. There, Muller debuted his newest “Portraits and Dwellings” series. A few of those pieces are now on view at Habatat Gallery in West Palm Beach, Florida, and may tour other areas in the future.   No stranger to awards, Muller received the 2011 and 2012 Niche Award for Furnace and Flame collaborative works with Joe Peters. The American Glass Expo presented Muller with the Atlantic Region Glass Artist of the Year, People’s Choice Award in 2016 and 2017. From June 26 – 28, the artist will teach a class with Zii (Kim Thomas) at Glass Alchemy, Portland, Oregon. Muller's live demos include August 11 at Piece of Mind Smoke Shop in Newport Beach, California, and September with Ryno at Witch Dr., Salem, Massachusetts. In October he will teach at Legacy Glass, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Whether coral reef teeming with vividly colored sea life or honeycomb dripping with golden ambrosia, Joe Peters’ flameworked glass is highly recognizable. Yet the artist has somehow avoided predictability by pushing boundaries and welcoming subjects as diverse as dragons, robots, and honeybees. Collectors delight at the release of new work, never knowing what subjects will be brought to life in Peters’ torch.   In 2012, encouraged by growing international demand from private collectors and galleries, Peters began transitioning from purely sculptural art to functional glass. To be closer to his pipe making community and to produce more collaborative projects, the artist relocated to Evergreen, Colorado, where he joined N8, Adam G, WJC, Elbo, and Eusheen at the Everdream Studio. This stable of world premier pipe makers share this state-of-the-art studio.   Influenced by glass artists Robert Mickelsen and Vittorio Costantini, Peters also found inspiration in the work of his functional glass heroes Banjo and Buck. He has studied with many flameworking masters including Lucio Bubacco, Loren Stump, Robert Burch, Sally Prasch, Milon Townsend, Mickelsen, and Emilio Santini.   On his own and through collaborations, Peters creates pieces for glass enthusiasts worldwide. In 2013, his functional glass works were featured in a well-attended and successful solo exhibition titled Side Show at GooseFire Gallery in Los Angeles, California. Public commissions include his 2012 aquarium on display at Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, and public art for Chicago Children’s Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.   As cannabis continues to permeate American culture, Peters engages the functional glass community, in part, by getting his work into the hands of influential musicians. In 2015, the artist created and hand delivered a pipe to country music and cannabis legend Willie Nelson. In early 2016, rapper Action Bronson purchased a Peters’ collaboration, solidifying the value of high-end functional glass artwork within the music world.
