Last month, two service providers announced they would not open cooling shelters this summer for people experiencing homelessness in the Columbia Gorge. The shelters used to open only for day use when the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for the region, and other air-conditioned facilities, like libraries, were not available. Washington Gorge Action Programs, which operates in Klickitat and Skamania counties, made the decision to close its Emergency Cooling Center in Stevenson after it found that not a single person visited the facility last summer. Instead, the organization has been distributing “cooling kits” which contain items like a battery-operated fan, water and sunscreen. The kits are being distributed at its offices, a thrift store it operates and through partnerships and outreach events with community organizations. Mid-Columbia Community Action Council is distributing cooling kits throughout its service area of Hood River, Sherman and Wasco Counties. Jennifer Pauletto, associate director of WAGAP, and Kenny LaPoint, executive director of MCCAC, share with us how this effort is going so far, and the impact it’s having for their clients.

For any of you who have been listening to the show for some time now, you know full well my love & affinity for cultivating Cannabis organically & consciously. One of my absolute favorite aspects of this passion is the individuals I meet who are in alignment with cultivating in this way. The reason for this is not simply due to the fact that we can agree on our values & expand each others knowledge pertaining to cultivation techniques, but is instead due to the notion that if someone is passionate about cultivating in this way, that they are undoubtedly someone who has done a fair amount of inner work & has a deep connection to themselves & the world at large, especially with regards to nature. Todays guest on the show is a man who when I first met, we immediately hit it off for the aforementioned reasons, among many others. He is the founder of the Klickitat medical Cannabis resource center in the Columbia River Gorge, in which he supplies education & resources pertaining to Cannabis & is also the owner & lead grower behind Titan Farm, in which he is focused on producing micro batch, organic, regeneratively grown hemp products to his customers & patients. In todays episode, we will be diving into his background in psychedelic medicines & what role they have played in him doing the work he is doing today, his views around the current themes in the Cannabis industry & what he feels may be being lost with regards to the true medicine of Cannabis within the way in which Cannabis is being marketed today, his view on what he calls “psychedelic moments” & much, much more. Show Notes:(1:25) Travis' Bio.(3:38) How did Travis get into plant medicine?(7:06) Travis' first experience with mushrooms. (12:10) Is this actually what's fulfilling me?(14:18) Travis tells two stories on why you should be careful with taking psychedelics!(29:14) Travis' viewpoint and relationship with cannabis.(47:10) Growing cannabis and the changes you see.(57:05) Where you can reach Travis!(58:18) One final question…Join the Highly Optimized Ceremony Circle on Facebook! https://www.highlyoptimized.me This episode was produced by Mazel Tov Media in Quincy, Massachusetts.

The Klickitat term "Yalicolb," which means "haunted place," gave its name to the community of Yacolt in north-central Clark County. The town, which has fewer than 1,500 residents, is located in the Cascade Mountain foothills, about 22 miles northeast of Vancouver, Clark County's seat and 32 miles southwest of Mount St. Helens. 'Members of the nearby Klickitat and Cowlitz tribes congregated there and conducted trade with tribes from the coast and east of the Cascades. The Eaton family became the first homesteaders in the Yacolt region in 1873.A count in early 1902 revealed barely 50 people and 15 structures. The same year's "Yacolt Burn," which up until 2014 was the Evergreen State's biggest forest fire on record, temporarily boosted the local economy by making the town the hub of a sizable timber-salvaging operation.Listen now to learn more about this this Evergreen State town and the massive forest fire that played an important role in its early history!A special thank you goes out to Al Hirsch for providing the music for the podcast, check him out on YouTube.Find merchandise for the podcast now available at:     https://washington-history-by-jon-c.creator-spring.comIf you enjoy the podcast and would like to contribute, please visit: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/EvergreenpodIf you have any questions, episode ideas you'd like to see explored, or just have a general comment, please reach out at Historyoftheevergreenstatepod@gmail.comTo keep up on news for the podcast and other related announcements, please like and follow:https://www.facebook.com/HistoryoftheevergreenstatepodcastThank you for listening!

The Klickitat tribe, which had escaped an incarceration near Fort Vancouver, came into contact with a company of Washington Volunteers from Fort Vancouver under the command of Captain William Strong in 1855, giving rise to the name "Battle Ground."Between settlers and the local Native Americans during the period, there was a great deal of mistrust and anxiety. The Klickitat tribe members were pursued by Captain Strong and his men to a spot northeast of Fort Vancouver in what is now central Clark County. The encounter, which many anticipated would become violent and escalate into a fight, never did. Chief Umtuch, the Klickitat tribe's leader, and Captain Strong established a deal that tribal members would return to the fort the following day. Trudell spoke at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington in front of an audience of innocence and apologetic predatory energy.

In this episode of the Vint podcast, Billy previews our new offering, the Piemonte Collection. He then jumps into an interview with Ray McKee and Jeff Andrews of Trothe wines in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA of Washington state. The Horse Heaven Hills are a long range of high, rolling hills in Klickitat, Yakima, and Benton counties in Washington.  The Andrews have been farming land in this region for 4 generations, and they are developing an incredible brand in Trothe that is intent on finding a place at the table with the top wines in the world. They're well on their way! The conversation touches on what makes Washington State (and specifically the Horse Heaven Hills) unique for growing and wine-making, the philosophy and intent behind developing a high-end wine brand, biodynamic farming practices and focus on sustainability, as well as Trothe's adoption of cryptocurrency and plans to use NFTs to prove ownership in secondary markets. It was an awesome conversation and we're excited to share with you all!Visit Trothe HEREJoin the Trothe allocation list HERERead about the Horse Heaven Hills AVA HERE

My guest for this episode is Kim Mosiman. In 2009, Kim – a practice manager and veterinary technician – with Columbia Equine Hospital's veterinarian, Dr. Scott Hansen, founded Sound Equine Options. They founded it to assist the growing number of area horse owners who could no longer afford to properly care for their animals. Since 2009, Sound Equine Options has grown into a licensed rescue focusing on ending the cycle of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and suffering for local horses. Sound Equine Options assists with law enforcement cases, often in partnership with the Oregon Humane Society. They currently have working relationships with law enforcement agencies in several counties in Oregon and Clark and Klickitat counties in Washington. By caring for abused, neglected, and abandoned horses, Sound Equine Options fills a great need not met by local or state governments, which often lack the resources needed to address the increasing numbers of unwanted horses. Here's what to expect during the episode: Unwanted horses: The role of nonprofit equine rescue and sanctuary organizations. What are the different types of horse rescue? What are common problems that occur with founder CEOs? Why must a nonprofit organization develop a clear mission? Why choose board members that will go along with you and those that deal well with change? And much more! Connect with Kim Mosiman! In this next edition of the show, I had the pleasure of talking to James Szubski, the chief operating officer of Margie's Outdoor Store in Bingen, WA, which is in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, which divides Washington State and Oregon. After James took over operations for Margie's the store began to receive dozens of reports of high strangeness in the area, from UFO & Bigfoot sightings, to portals, paranormal activity, encounters with folkloric Little People, and sightings of a creature he refers to as the Klickitat Ape Cat. Could this be the next big window area where things go bump in the night?Check out the Margie's Outdoor Store website here and their Instagram here-----
