Comparison is the thief of joy, but we've never lived in a time of greater social comparison. We compare ourselves on every metric: our jobs, our relationships, our homes, our bodies, our social following, our vacations, our money. Summertime especially can bring up a lot of comparison. It seems like everyone on social media is having the most fun on a beautiful trip with an epic group of friends and impossibly fit bikini bodies. It's easy to forget that we're looking at a highlight reel of everybody else's lives, comparing their best curated moments to our worst. Here's the thing… most of the time when we feel like we aren't enough, or don't have enough, the people we're comparing ourselves to don't even have a life we'd actually want. The grass isn't greener on the other side. The grass is greener where you water it. Join me for some vulnerable real-talk on: The fake side of what we see on social media Comparing our family life, relationship status and friend groupsWhy you don't need to stop following everyone you compare yourself to Using envy as your compass and inspiration for what you really want Overcoming the capitalist idea of competitionHow comparison leads to scarcity and lack mentality How to rewrite the stories we tell ourselves Recognizing what you ACTUALLY want VS what comparison tricks you into wantingCarving out your own unique path of successOur show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerCarolyn Schissler, Designer & Web ProducerSara Valentine, Content ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. He is also a mentor on the APMPUK Rapport mentor programme.Focal Points: why scoring criteria are usedthat submissions will be assessed, not read (this feeds into my 'writing for impact' module) and that it will be scored against the criteria, not necessarily against the competitionHow evaluation scoring can differ in terms of approach, talking about a few of the different schemes I've seen and the differences and how to read the criteria to determine how best to climb the score scheme (again, that it's not the best writing but answering in a way that matches the scoring scheme)How question weightings can help you determine where to spend effort (e.g. movement of 1 consensus point on a 75% weighted question scored 1-5 has a bigger impact than the whole of a 5% question)Then there's looking at the questions and determining what they're asking. My sector is notorious for questions with multiple dimensions, and unobvious hidden questions that if you can tease them out, can make it more difficult for other bidders to come off as compliant as you are against the question and therefore against the scoring criteria. Then there's the use of a compliance matrix to make sure your response and subsequent submission hit all of those areas as well as other things that tie the company into the contract - which, again, SMEs who only look at the specification may often not be aware of... and that the compliance matrix can feed into subsequent proceed/halt gates.Support the show

Back in episode number 567 we talked about Facebook ads tracking and how to improve the validity of your data.Today I'm here to tell you that Facebook ads are dead, unless you do what I'm talking about today.Facebook ads really aren't dead, but I want to dive into and piggyback off of episode 567, which talked about the validity of data and how we improve it.To understand how well your ads are doing you need to do what I call “triangulating the data.” You basically take data from multiple sources: Facebook ads manager, Google analytics, and your email CRM.There are other tools that you can use, but essentially what I talked about in that episode is taking data from multiple sources, and then comparing each source to try to tell the story—to paint the picture of what's actually going on with your campaigns.Today I want to expand on what we talked about in episode 567, and talk about the latest advertising and data collection changes Facebook is making to their platform. In this episode, you'll learn:How Facebook is improving lead ads and data accuracyAn ad strategy that gives you a huge upper hand over your competitionHow to get the most out of Facebook's lead ad and data collection changesLinks & Resources:Episode 567: Facebook Ads Tracking: How to Improve the Validity of Your Data10XPROThe Art of Online Business websiteDM me on InstagramVisit my YouTube channelThe Art of Online Business clips on YouTubeFull episodes of The Art of Online Business Podcast on YouTubeThe Art of Online Business Podcast websiteCheck out my Accelerator coaching program*Disclosure: I only recommend products I use and love and all opinions expressed here are my own. Cybersecurity is so hot companies can't hire fast enough. What's the blocker? Experience. But how can recent grads and those in school get it? CTF expert Akshay Rohatgi explains how to get involved. One of the most common questions we get is: how can I get experience if I can't get that first job? Even entry-level cyber roles often require 1-3 years of experience. Early stage cyber experts can practice and hone their skills by participating in bug bounty programs, open-source projects, and internships. Another great way to get experience and build your network are Capture the Flag (or CTF) competitions.Conversation highlights:What a capture the flag contest isThe difference between Jeopardy v. Academic education is not the be-all and end-all of success. Sometimes, a sheer determination can take a person a long way, which is exactly what Ricky Blair experienced. Blair left school at 16 and immediately started working. He then started a real estate company in London, which won awards and became a subject of a bidding war among big-box real estate companies. “I had this burning desire to prove the school system wrong and demonstrate that you could succeed even if you failed an education system,” Blair told us in our latest podcast. Blair also founded Platform Seven, a business coaching consultancy that aims to help young individuals unlock their potential in business and in life. The goal is to teach people ideas and principles that they don’t learn in school. It’s also his way of giving back considering how important mentoring was for him when he started out in the real estate business. “It was huge for me,” Blair said about mentorship. “It saves time. It prevents you from making mistakes.” Blair has a term for his mentorship program: success therapy. This didn’t just work in real estate, but for businesses across the board. Here are some of the topics we covered during our conversation: The importance of doing things differently Less pressure, better performance Doing the fundamentals right Real estate is a process Mentorship Selling the company Platform Seven Education system doesn’t prepare you for the journey ahead (24: 11) Burning desire to succeed Pausing can make you see clearer Reminder apps Blair also touched on what he wants to see in the future. He hopes that Platform Seven is going to have an impact among Americans just like it did in England. Blair has brought Platform Seven to Los Angeles after a successful stint in England. On that note, Greater Property Group is also pleased to announce that it has partnered with Platform Seven in providing exclusive mentorship and real estate training to new agents. The partnership aims to help new agents kick-start their careers, as well as help established agents take their real estate business to the next level. The program will cover the following topics within 90 days: Goal Setting What Makes a Great Agent Limiting Beliefs Manifesting / Achieving Goals Patience / The Process Self-Doubt / Fear Work Ethic Discipline & Sacrifice Challenging Times & Making Mistakes Reputation in Business Organization / Efficiency Excellence & Standards Setting You Apart from the Competition How to Be the Best Greater Property Group and Platform Seven are both invested in helping real estate agents unlock their potential by obtaining knowledge and learning new skills. Explosive power and speed are crucial for fight athletes. Many fundamental movements of combat sports require an explosive component to be effective. The most recognised fighters harness these qualities to connect with a lethal knee, evade an opponents attack or deliver the knockout blow. Becoming the best at combat sport requires training the qualities that contribute to these movements. Plyometric training is considered advanced because athletes need to have proficient strength and stability through any movement pattern before adding any explosive component.Plyometric training uses exercises that involve explosive power and speed involve jumps, bounds, sprints, change of direction drills, and med ball throw exercises. Joseph Coyne shares his experience training these qualities in athletes. We talk about how he incorporates plyometric exercises in warm-ups for training and competition, use them to improve performance, and how they will help us avoid injury. Greetings everyone, my name is Julie Masters and welcome to another episode of Inside Influence. In which I delve into the minds of some of the world’s most fascinating influencers – or experts in influence - to get to the bottom of what it really takes to own your voice - and then amplify it to drive an industry, a conversation, a movement or a nation. Now this episode - is a little different to any other episode of Inside Influence that we’ve ever done. One of my favourite parts of putting together the last 52 Episodes of The Podcast has been tracking down world class people to talk to - some of our ideas have worked beyond what I had hoped - poets, musicians, politicians, CEO’s, world record breakers - the list goes on. And some - well - haven’t. Which - lets face it - is just part and parcel of creating anything at all. Sometimes you win - sometimes you end up face down in the dirt wondering how you got there. Just as an aside on that - for anyone thinking about putting together a podcast (which I would wholeheartedly recommend by the way) - please never attempt any interview that involves three languages and a four way - real time - translation. As we found out recently it makes a fascinating mime show - but not so much great audio.Anyway - pretty much the driving force of every episode we have ever done - has been to get inside how we influence ourselves (our own stories and reactions), how we influence others (either one on one or from a platform), or how we influence at scale (i.e. amplifying an idea or message that has the power to change the world). Most CEO’s and leaders that I meet are on at least one of those journeys. In a world where everyone has a platform, noise is high, brand engagement and trust are low - and storytelling by algorithm now drives the majority of behaviour. Standing out - and converting that attention into action - is probably the largest challenge business challenge of our time.In today's episode of Inside influence these are the issues we’re going to get into. However - for this week only - it will just be me. No guest. Today’s episode is a compilation of a few different speeches I have given recently - mainly for large corporations - most in industries that are currently suffering from a dive in trust. The common theme for each essentially being the question: ‘How do you become the most influential and trusted authority in your space?’. The pieces we’ve chosen hopefully answer some of the most commonly asked questions I get in regards to influence. These include:How to identify your unique space as a micro-authorityHow the digital world has changed the role of branding - and branded marketing - in driving opportunities, sales, conversations and change. Leaving humans as the most influential force on the planet. Why harnessing your unique skills and experience – or the unique skills and experience of the people within your organisation – is now the No 1 key to cut throughThe methods to designing a strategy to become the go-to expert in your space. Tools to focus more on out-contributing - rather than out-spending and out-interrupting your competitionHow to harness the power of epic storytellingThe power of co-creation - and how to amplify your impact by joining forces with those that already have the eyes and ears of your target marketAnd why becoming the primary translator for your chosen audience is the most powerful decision you can makeSo - as I said - today is a little different to usual programming. If you like it let me know on the usual social channels. We can try and do more. If not then - just like the multi translation episode - we’ll chalk it down to experience and keep moving. With that in mind, kick back, drive safe (or walk slow) and get ready to take a deep dive into standing up, being seen and harnessing the power of their voice. My name is Julie Masters and this is Inside Influence. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Content marketing consists of creating a lot of different types of content, then promoting it on all your online real estate via many means such as social sharing, pay-per-click (PPC) marketing, search engine optimization (SEO) and more. Content marketing is a really great way to get the word out about your products and services in a natural, organic way. But, it’s important to figure out what your point of view is so that you can create a coherent and professional voice for your content marketing. Figure Out Your Core Values: What is it that you want to say to the world? What is it that you feel is important? Do you want your business to be a beacon of light to your audience, shining down on them, creating joy and happiness? Do you want your business to be a wake-up call and teach lessons for your audience? What do you want your audience to think about when they think of your brand? Get to Know Your Audience: Marketing is all about what’s in it for them, not what’s in it for you. If you can remember that, for every piece of content you create, you’ll be half way there. Every story you tell - be it through an article you write, a video, or a press release – should all be focused with the audience in mind. The best way to do that is truly understand who your audience is by studying them and immersing yourself in everything there is to know about them. How you speak to your audience will be directly related to how well you know them. Identify the Value You Offer Your Audience: Depending on your products or service, there is some type of value that you are offering such as more time, less worry, or another intrinsic value. Your value might be tangible as well, but usually your value lies in how you solve your audience’s problems and issues. For instance, a breath mint company isn’t selling candy; they are selling fresh breath. Differentiate Your Business from the Competition: How are you going to stand out from the crowd? One of the ways to do that is to decide how you’ll express your values to your audience. How will you deliver the goods and/or services that you’ve promised? How will you provide more time, more health, more of whatever value your company offers while also sticking to and expressing your core values? Decide If Your Voice Is Casual or Formal: Once you combine all of the above, you will need to decide if your audience will respond better to a casual or formal voice (or someplace in between). How you speak to your audience is a very important factor in determining if they will understand your message. Determine Acceptable Lingo and Terms: Once you’ve decided whether your voice is casual or formal or someplace in the middle, you can come up with the type of terms and lingo you’ll use throughout your content marketing, regardless of format. For example: Formal - “I would like to inform you about a sale we are having during Memorial Weekend.” Casual – "Hey y’all! Check out my Memorial Weekend price cuts!” Create Documentation as a Guide: Whether you’ll be creating all the content yourself, or getting help, creating documentation to guide you through the process will help. Be specific about which font to use. Write down the type of words you want to use, too. The terminology, lingo and jargon is important because it will mean something to your audience and help you get your message across in a way it will produce the results you desire. Don’t Try to Be Someone You’re Not: The worst thing you can do as you’re creating and developing your voice is to try to be someone you’re not. If you are not generally formal, don’t even try to be formal. If you’d feel fake being casual, don’t do it. Be yourself. If you’ve chosen your audience well, it will be easy for you to be who you are and market to them in a successful way using content. Social media can be a powerful communication medium to enhance relationships, earn trust and build brand awareness. Delivering a solid and quality product or service is only part of the equation for brand success and serving the needs of the always on, always connected customer of today. What customer journey and experience are you designing for your customers and audience? Your customers do not just land on your website and then buy from you within 5 seconds. They have likely been on a journey and your website, blog or social platform is simply one of the stops on their journey. Communicating with your customers when, where and how they want you to communicate with them is critical. Today's mobile and connected customer requires you know not only the right time but the right place to communicate with them. If you don't, they will just go to someone else, to another brand who has taken the time to understand who they are and what they need. Smart brand leaders know that social media can help them differentiate and rise above the sea of status quo and leap frog their competition if implemented correctly and with goals that help improve user and customer experience. Social media can easily be used to provide the most positive experience possible. Social media can be leveraged to nurture relationships with customers, prospects, partners and their broader community. Every brand touch matters. From the first touch on your website, contact form to your Facebook page, Twitter communication, email marketing or phone conversation with your customer or sales support team, every brand touch requires thorough thought and planning. Did you know that it takes on average 6-7 brand touches before someone will remember your brand? You have less than 10 seconds when a person lands on your website or blog for the online visitor to determine if they are going to stick around to learn more about you or bounce right out. The same goes for when they land on your Facebook page, LinkedIn company page or your own personal social profile on any of the social networks. Your brand is not what you say it is or what you write for your corporate Twitter bio, Facebook profile or LinkedIn company page. Your brand is what people say about you. Your brand is what and how you make people feel. Your brand is the experience you deliver to customers, prospective customers, partners, your community and your audience online and offline. Your brand is how quickly you reply and answer questions. Your brand is the tone you use when communicating with your peers, thought leaders in your industry and niche, your employees and even competitors online. You brand is how you show gratitude. It's how you handle a public online, crisis. It's how you build and nurture community. Customer experience is your brand, period. What customer experience are you delivering your customers, audience, partners and community online? Is it positive? Is it human? Is it authentic? How transparent is it? Is it helping you build a lasting and meaningful impression? Is it inspiring people to connect with you, engage with you and buy from you today, tomorrow or next year? Or is it turning people off? Episode 112: Taking Students to Competition How do you handle competition with your students? How do you circumvent the win, win, win mentality, especially if you don't win? Teacher Gary Rodgers competes every year in his region and talks about his experiences. Show Notes Layers Lose Not Thy Head Episode Transcript Welcome to TFP – The Theatrefolk Podcast – the place to be for Drama teachers, Drama students, and theatre educators everywhere. I'm Lindsay Price, resident playwright for Theatrefolk. Hello, I hope you're well. Thanks for listening. Welcome to Episode 112. You can find all the links for this episode at theatrefolk.com/episode112. So, aside from playwriting and teaching, I also adjudicate. I'm around a lot of competition and I've been adjudicating individual events – monologues and scenes – for about… I think, about eight years. But, in the past four years, I've actively sought out adjudicating one-acts and full-lengths, and I do it. I like to sit on that side of the table because I like the analytical part. I like watching and analyzing a production. It's very interesting to me and I like sharing the thoughts that I have about that. But, too, I got really, really tired of hearing student's stories about being ripped apart in an adjudication. It's one thing to be critical of a student production, and to be critical is fine. You know, if there are things that need to be worked on, that should be addressed. But I'm really not a believer in “tough love” for students because there is a way to provide constructive criticism where it becomes a learning experience. You know, where they can work on things for the next time. And, you know, I know a teacher who, just this year, after an adjudication, said the experience made her students feel defeated, and I don't get that. I don't get why that's good for an adjudicator to make a student feel defeated. Again, this is not about making everything sunshine and roses – that's not helpful either. But what are we supposed to be teaching? Are we supposed to be teaching students to not ever want to step on-stage again? Or do we want them to learn and grow? Granted, you know, sometimes I give a comment and you can tell when a student is not going to do anything with it, but that's fine. I still have to offer it in a constructive way, and that's my goal as an adjudicator – to find that line where criticism is a tool to build something and not a hammer to smash it down. So, that sort of segues into our podcast today. We're going to talk about competition – what it's like on the other side of the table, to take students to competition. How do you handle adjudications? How do you handle the competitive atmosphere in a constructive manner? I'm going to talk to one teacher who takes his students to competition on a regular basis and see how he does it. Lindsay: Hello, everyone! I am here today with Teacher Gary Rodgers. Hello, Gary! Gary: Hi! How do you do? Lindsay: Oh, I'm excellent. How are you? Gary: I am very good. Thank you. Lindsay: Tell everybody where in the world you are situated. Gary: I am in Grand Falls, Newfoundland. Lindsay: Ah! Newfoundland! Gary: Center of Newfoundland, yes. Lindsay: For the majority of our audience who are in the States, they might not know where Newfoundland is. Us Canadians, we better know, but you guys are at the easternmost province of Canada. Gary: We are. We are the easternmost province or part of North America, really. Lindsay: When I was in Newfoundland, there were some people who actually referred to Canada as “the mainland.” Gary: You do hear that. You will hear that a lot here. Oh, we are an island. Lindsay: Yes. Yes, a lovely island. My other memory of Newfoundland is we arrived in June and it was four degrees. Gary: Yes. Lindsay: It was very cold. Gary: We had an exceptionally hot summer this year but June was four degrees.
