Nick Crews never planned to join the family business in airport concessions. But, while finishing law school, Crews was also working part-time at LAX overseeing his parents' news and gift locations. He built relationships, gained an appreciation for his parents' work and has never left. Crews Cos. has become a leading ACDBE operator nationally, with 35 locations across LAX, ATL and the Washington airports, with more on the way. Crews leads collaboratively, which he says has helped with employee retention. That same approach has led to deeper relationships with brand and vendor partners as the airport has become a more technology-driven and complex place of business.

This week, we're doing something a bit different outside of our typical interview format. This is a recap of New York Climate Week. I'll share some of my impressions and you'll hear from folks like Vice President Al Gore, California Senator Henry Stern, several friends, and fellow climate travelers. You'll hear some segments from sessions I attended and sometimes it might sound like you're actually there in a room full of people. If you hear an occasional cough or something, try to just think of it as getting closer to the experience of being there without any risk of coming home with COVID.Over 75,000 people kicked off the week by taking to the streets for the Climate March on September 17th. Over the ensuing week, thousands of people from around the world joined over 585 official Climate Week sessions and likely as many unofficial ones. I kicked off the week in a somewhat surreal way. I work for a company called NationSwell. We're an executive membership network and advisory that helps sustainability and other leaders take on bigger bets and be more successful. We were invited to bring some NationSwell members like Michael Komori, Chief Sustainability Officer of Starbucks, and joined Al Gore and other climate leaders in ringing the NASDAQ bell on Monday morning – which felt like a fitting start, as a question on everyone's minds is: “If capitalism is up for the challenge, will corporations lead the transformation needed to cut emissions?”In today's episode, we're hearing from:[1:34] Adam Lake, Climate Week NYC Lead of the Climate Group[2:34] Bonnie Gurry, Co-Founder of GreenPortfolio[5:15] Alex Wright Gladstein, Founder of Sphere[6:48] Nyla Mabro, New York Chapter of New Energy Nexus[7:18] Tom Chi, Founder of At One Ventures[8:54] Kirsten Snow Spalding, VP of the Investor Network at Ceres[10:45] Former US Vice President Al Gore[19:29] VP Al Gore on Climate TRACE[12:59] VP Al Gore on the state of climate progress[20:56] Katie Rae, CEO & Manager Partner of The Engine[22:51] Jeff Johnson, Managing Partner of Temasek[24:03] Clay Dumas, Founding Partner of Lowercarbon Capital[25:44] Clay Dumas on the unique opportunity for climate founders today[27:06] Ian Samuels, Founder & Managing Partner of New System Ventures[28:09] Colin le Duc, Founding Partner of Generation Investment Management[33:43] Dr. Vanessa Chan, Chief Commercialization Officer for the US Department of Energy and Director of the

What if you had access to micron-size Legos that could build anything? It may sound like a dream from the future, but it's happening now. From U.S. aircraft parts to medical implants, additive manufacturing is a nearly 30-year-old process that's finally having its moment. . By definition, additive manufacturing is the technology used to build 3-D objects layer-by-layer, no matter if the material is metal, plastic, concrete or even human tissue. From an industrial production perspective, it's a transformative approach that reduces energy, cuts waste, decreases production time, and allows for greater design flexibility. . John E. Barnes, Founder & Manager Partner of The Barnes Global Advisors, sat down to discuss the evolution of additive manufacturing, including Pittsburgh's Neighborhood 91, the first development in the world to connect and condense all components of the 3-D printing supply chain into one powerful production ecosystem. . As we look to the future, the evolution of standards related to additive manufacturing will play a key role in accelerating its adoption. SAE is building expert committees to address this need. The world of cryptocurrencies has had many ups and downs over the last decade, but investment funds are becoming increasingly interested in cryptoassets. Tim Savage is joined by Viresh Ohri, Manager Partner at Catenam Capital, to talk through the current crypto landscape of crypto investment funds.Viresh was an early adopter of cryptocurrency, first trading bitcoin in 2012. Since then, he has watched the crypto industry evolve into a robust ecosystem of digital assets powered by decentralized applications and web3 technology. “Web3 is the future. Everything we've worked towards in the last decade has set us up to where we are today. The whole internet was made for web3, it was just the next part in the evolution.”Since launching Catenam Capital, an investment fund engaged in web3 private equity and digital asset trading, Viresh has taken his crypto experiences from the past ten years to develop pragmatic goals and investment strategies. “I like to say that we know what we're doing and we're experts in our field, but I don't think anyone in crypto is truly an expert.”Tim and Viresh also discuss the abundant need for better digital asset policy and regulation globally. “It's hard to know who to trust in the world of crypto, especially considering the many scammers who are only in this market for a quick buck.” Viresh stresses how important it is to have a stronger framework of regulation to stimulate investments in the industry while also helping investors.
