In Episode 24, I ask the question "Who is God?" The answer is not a guy with a white beard sitting on a cloud. It is simpler than you might think. I argue that God -- at least in Part 1 of a multi-episode series - could be a SOUND and more specifically the Om (Ohm) sound that you repeat at the end of your yoga class. Why is God the Om sound? Om is the summation of all the vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u, and y). Six vowels and 6 days of creation. Om is said to be the frequency of the universe resonating at 432 Hz, the frequency in which instruments are tuned in Europe and the frequency in which Mozart created his compositions. The Om Sounds (at 432 Hz) is said to have the effect of linking both halves of our brain and in the words of Maria Reynolds in her book, "Intervals Scales Tones and the Concert Pitch C=128hz, that "432Hz creates a disconnect between our bodies and consciousness." How does tie back to Cymatics? This morning on the way to the school bus, my almost 11 year old son was explaining to me that if you shrunk an elephant down to the size of a mouse, it would shiver, then die, because of its slow mitochondria, due to something called the Rule of Squared Threes, which he also proceeded to explain. Then he explained something about neutron stars, claiming that they are essentially a giant atom, which I don't think is actually true. Then he started on another topic and I explained that this was all very wonderful but that I had learned all the science my brain could hold at 7:15 am.* Sadly, my own journey as a scientist ended in high school biology, when I put the dissected tail of a fetal pig on a toothpick and said "Hors d'oeuvres?" to several classmates, which earned me an F for the project. But happily, there are people like my guest today, Astronomer Michelle Thaller, and my son Emre, who are excellent at explaining scientific wonders to dummkopfs like myself. Michelle is—let me take a deep breath here—the Assistant Director of Science for Communications at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. COURSE OVERVIEW: Introduction to Political Economy is a self-contained and nontechnical overview of the intellectual history of political economy, the logic of microeconomics, and the definitions used in macroeconomics. It introduces the notion of a political economy, emphasizing the moral and ethical problems that markets solve, and fail to solve. LECTURE OVERVIEW: 1. The "Spatial Model" has three aspects: Nature of voter preferences Endogenous platform selection Predictions about outcomes 2. People use “left”, “right”, and “center” to describe political positions, dating to the French National Assemblies and National Convention-- Left: (want change) Jacobins Right: Girondins (defend status quo) 3. "Political power lies at center of distribution of preferences effectively enfranchised by the institutions of the society." Formally, this is called "The Median Voter Theorem." 4.
