Jim MacPhee is a retired Disney legend and renowned author of the book Engage, Inspire, Lead. Starting in the watercraft department on the Seven Seas Lagoon, Jim started with an hourly position and grew with the company, and through mentorship and personal growth, became one of the greatest leaders in Disney history. Jim spent 43 years with the Walt Disney Company, serving the company on both coasts as a Vice President of several parks. Later in his career, Jim led the Next Generation Experience movement, leading to the birth of MyMagic+ and other technology that reshaped the attractions industry. In this interview, Jim talks about navigating life, pushing a wet noodle, and emotional and relational intelligence. Navigating Life "Define your destination and go. And be nimble and agile along the way." Jim took many lessons from his first position with Disney and used them throughout his entire career. Reflecting on his experiences in the watercraft department, Jim emphasizes the parallels between navigating watercraft and effective leadership, such as finding the fastest path of travel and working together to create forward momentum. The most profound lesson Jim learned from his time in watercraft was the skill of navigating life itself. With its various ties to leadership and great lessons in responsibility, Jim's first position provided a strong foundation for the rest of his career. Watercraft provided a sense of community and allowed Jim to bond with guests and develop a real understanding of the scope and size of the new Disney property. Pushing A Wet Noodle "If you don't have great relationships, you've got a tough battle ahead." Jim compares “horizontal work” to pushing a wet noodle, stating that you can't get anywhere unless everybody is on the same page. The team dynamic and leadership system is critical to the success of a project, and it's one of the biggest takeaways Jim found in his time with the Next Generation Experience team. One of the key elements of a successful project is top box sponsorship and great relationships. Jim compares poor leadership to the Liberty Bell, where a little crack in the top can lead to a massive fissure and disconnect in the rest of the team. Jim knows that with strong relationships and clear leadership, those fissures are avoidable. Emotional and Relational Intelligence "We had to lead with clarity, unity, and agility." Jim shares that great leaders are built on their emotional and relational intelligence. Being open and vulnerable to feedback contributes not only to the improvement of one's self, but also to the improvement of the team. Jim also shares that leadership is everywhere, and that leadership can't exist without the relationships that we build. Jim shares that much of his success came from the fact that he would get to know people on a granular level, and not just when he needed them to put out fires. By investing in your team and providing an engaging and feedback-based environment, leaders won't have to worry when they ring the fire bell. Jim boldly shares that good leaders engage and inspire, whereas bad leaders read off the pages and direct, and shares that the four cornerstones to great leadership are relationships, influence, knowledge, and credibility. You can find Jim's book Engage, Inspire, Lead on Amazon or at bookstores nationwide. To reach Jim directly, connect with him on LinkedIn. Do you want to know what executives in world-class companies think about leadership and why they hire consultants and coaches? Today, I'm chatting with one of my favorite executives of all time, Jim MacPhee, recently retired Chief Operating Officer and self-proclaimed Experience Steward for Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts. He is also the author of the newly released book Engage, Inspire, Lead. I have worked on and off with Jim since 1999, first as his Organization Development Consultant at Disney and, more recently, as a sounding board when he retired from his 43-year career. I invited Jim to join me on the show for several reasons. First, I have been talking for the last few episodes about the importance of not just identifying your ideal client but getting in their hearts and minds so you can position yourself, products/services, and copy to connect with them. But figuring out how executives think can be challenging for consultants and coaches if we haven't been executives before. So, I thought, why not bring on some of my former clients so you can hear for yourself? Second, Jim is one of the best executives and lives the values driving consultants and coaches like us, especially around purpose and relationship. It's hard to stay encouraged in our short-term profit-obsessed world that these unicorn executives exist. But they do. Jim offers powerful insight into what created his leadership philosophies and practices. In this episode, you'll hear why: Leaders must surround themselves with people who dare to think differently and will be honest. All your experiences, obvious or not, add to your greater purpose and work as a leader. Great leaders can't lead from an ivory tower and need to know what it's like on the front lines. Consultants and coaches succeed or fail when dealing with the C-Suite. Ready for new ways of thinking about leadership and actionable inspiration to find and work with C-Suite executives (or executives on their way to the C-Suite) like Jim? You will not want to miss this episode. This interview is THAT powerful. Where to dive in: [6:55] Hear about Jim's first leadership role at Disney and how he navigated that time in 1978. [11:34] Jim shares the Disney park most dear to his heart and how he navigated the massive growth the park experienced with its opening. [14:50] Betsy shares the seeds of Jim's philosophy as he talks about his early experiences at Disney. [22:36] What is the difference between a leader and a manager? Hear why Jim's mindfulness approach influences how things get done and, ultimately, great leadership. [27:56] Hear about the provocative organizational structure Jim created for Animal Kingdom, how it was ahead of its time, and his major regret. [32:10] Jim shares why leaders must surround themselves with people who dare to think differently. [39:09] Betsy labels Jim's superpower and talks about being a generalist leader and how it relates to his book. [45:03] Hear about Jim's leadership principles and personal beliefs. [52:02] Why you need a specialist and generalist mindset to balance day-to-day and a long-term vision. [1:08] Tune in for Jim's advice to consultants and coaches advising the C-Suite. What's next: Buy Jim's new book if you need to develop your Circle of Influence, get in balance, and lean into time-tested leadership guidance. If you're an org looking for leadership, culture, experience, and transformation, connect with Jim to learn more. In this special year-end episode, I lay out my 10 predictions for media and entertainment in 2022. Just when we thought we were out(side), it (Covid) pulls us back in(side)! (Yes, a Godfather Part III reference to start things off!). While nothing is more powerful than real physical human connection, our increasingly tech-driven virtual world was the big story for media and entertainment in 2021. In particular, this past year marked the mass “coming out” party for an entirely new kind of transformational decentralized blockchain-enabled Web 3.0 world. And in the world of media, the headline blockchain story took its form in so-called non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Will the blockchain's adoption in media accelerate in 2022? My Magic 8-Ball says “Signs point to ‘YES'.” And that is my prediction #1. If you like my "Fearless Media" podcast - and want to hear more - please rate, share and subscribe to it.

In this episode, I share the 3 lessons I learned during the trip. There were a lot of ahas, tears and breakthroughs. Our guest today is Brian Betts, a 22+ year Disney Cast member and former executive. By trade, Brian is an industrial engineer, so this episode is going to have an analytical and methodical approach towards improving customer experience. In his career at Disney, Brian did everything from helping launch Disney Cruise Line and Disney’s Fast Pass, to overseeing experience insights within My Magic+, Disney’s mobile app and connected ecosystem. Throughout Brian’s career, he’s used analytics to optimize the guest experience, managing multi-billion dollar annual capital investments, including the development of new attractions and experiences. As part of his last role as Vice President of Planning and Development, he was part of the commercial team with oversight of long-term planning and revenue generation initiatives. Check out his Linkedin page for more info, he’s just got too prolific an experience to share it all here. Two of the major projects Brian was involved in his later years that we dive into: First, using data and predictive analytics to proactively recover guest service opportunities in real time. Second, using the data gained from Disney’s My Magic+ initiative to create greater personalization for the guest. Brian goes into detail on how they used analytics to help equip front-line Cast Members with “superpowers” to deliver better guest experiences.Even if you don’t have a billion dollar budget for customer experience, there are tons of principles and takeaways from this conversation you can apply to your own organization.

He is also one of the members on the Board of Directors for Obie’s 4F annual convention in Batavia, New York. Episode 16 of The FitsPRO Podcast is all about my first experience with quarterly planning in regards to my business. Although I've technically owned a business for four years, I NEVER did quarterly planning. In fact I'd never really heard of it until November 2018 when my friend Paige brought Amber McCue's Fresh Start Workbook and Planner to my attention. I always did Hilary Rushford's yearly review + planning workshop and LOVE IT. But this quarterly planning sounded like just the thing I was looking for heading into 2019. Which would be my first year FULLY self employed. I believe Amber's workbook is $37 or it was at the time. But there are TONS of options when it comes to quarterly planners. Amber's was downloadable which worked perfect for me as we were traveling the world. But if I was stateside I'd 100% get a pen and paper 90 day planner for entrepreneurs. So if you too love putting your pen to physical paper, I would either get Amber's workbook and PRINT IT OUT, or do some research and find on that suits your fancy. The planner itself is of less importance than your intent and ability to IMPLEMENT the actual planning. This is where the magic happens. This is where MY MAGIC happened in quarter 1 of 2019. I reached goals, I didn't reach goals, I realized A LOT of things, and I'll get better and better each quarter. I even use 30, 60, and 90 planning inside FitsPRO Foundations because it was so effective for me, I couldn't possibly keep it from my students. And I truly believe if I would have started quarterly planning earlier on in my business journey, I would have grown faster + learned a lot about myself. So whether you've been in the world of business for a hot minute, or you're a newb...I highly suggest you give this episode a listen, and start quarterly planning NOW. If you loved this episode please head over to Apple Podcast, subscribe, rate and review The FitsPRO Podcast. It means the world to me. For Real.

Today's podcast explores topics from previous podcasts. First, there is a more expansive discussion about how to save on your Disney vacation (from podcast #123). Yes, you can save if you look for some discounts or "bundle" tickets, meals, and hotel. And you really should consult with an authorized Disney travel agent such as Destinations in Florida Next, I look at MyMagic+, now that there are more details emerging....I spoke about this on podcast #124. I've got some new information I recently learned, and I share that; plus there are some articles about the topic that I found. Let's say that there's some interesting "stuff" going on, and that Disney has invested a lot - but there are still many questions to be answered. One article I mention is from Salon.com article about retailers watching you...its worth a read in its entirety. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
Today's podcast is somewhat of a rant. I have some thoughts about FastPass+ and MyMagic, and the potential for Disney to differentiate service, though not necessarily in a good way. I am curious what you think, so please send me an email davesdisneyview@gmail.com, or post a response on blogger, twitter, or Facebook. And for the record, I was trying really hard to not be overly critical, but I felt the need to say *something* because I see a trend that's emerging, and it bothers me... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
Recently, I took a trip to Walt Disney World, and I got an RFID-enabled card. I talk about the card, the experience, and what I know about the technology and speculate on what they're doing with it....come along and listen in and please let me know if you have any additional thoughts on the matter. Is it reading your fingerprint, or isn't it? What does Disney do with this information anyway? What does the future hold? I certainly don't know, but I try and set a context for you. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
Today I have a double podcast! I take a longer look at the Magic Bands, and MyMagic+, and consider why Disney is spending this kind of money on something that has a limited return on it from Disney's point of view. My approach was to look at in this way: what is mymagic? How does it work? Rollout, costs, and questions Patents driving it customer relationship management Pros and Cons My thoughts In the podcast, I quote from several articles. Including: At Disney Parks, a Bracelet Meant to Build Loyalty (and Sales) Branding Lessons From Walt Disney World, Part 1: Designing the Customer Experience How the MagicBand and MyMagic+ Works --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
I went up to the parks at the end of October, and had a chance to check out some of what's going on with MyMagic, so I talk about that. Plus, I went over to Epcot and ate some yummy food at the Food & Wine Festial. And there are a few other fun things to talk about! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

Today, I have still more information on MyMagic+. There's some new news, and a few updates….there is (as we expected) an active and passive RFID reader, and there isa requirement to have a biometric scan for park entrance. Meanwhile, old paper-based FastPass machines are being removed, and there are some increasing costs. Come on in and take a listen, and comment below. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
Overview: Its a podcast so big that it spans two episodes! Today, I am in the Magic Kingdom trying out my MagicBand, FastPass+, and checking out some of the changes that have taken (or are taking!) place. Come and take a listen as I spend my day wandering around and telling stories... Notes: I didn't like the feeling of the MagicBand on my arm, but overall, the system was working well enough. I found the experience enjoyable overall. We close out the show with 3 Good Minutes on the prognosis for the next five years of parks fandom. There's also a brief added on segment about the rumored resort fees.
With it being our 101st episode, Kevin and Pete have decided to look at some of the biggest 101's (or refurbishments) in Walt Disney World History. All this, plus the latest and greatest Disney news of the week, focussing on Purple Magic Bands, My Magic+, the Big Thunder refurb, AND MORE!
Jambeaux, everyone!!! Welcome to another episode of the Magic Our Way podcast. We are a New Orleans based Disney fan podcast. We appreciate your listening to our show and we hope it brings a smile to your face. We also appreciate your feedback and are committed to listening to our audience. On today’s show, we have Kevin, Danny, Lee: a travel agent with Magical Moments Vacations (a Platinum Earmarked Disney Travel Agency), and Eli of www.ivorycomcs.com for this episode. Please note: the Magic Our Way Podcast is not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company or its entities. All opinions expressed therein are solely those of the Magic Our Way podcast. No animals were harmed in the making of this podcast. Fellow MOWicans, ladies, and gentlemen. For the Hub, this week, we present to you former Disney Imagineer, Paul Torrigino: a man who owned his own online tiki bar sign business, Pariarts. If you were looking for that crowning touch to your tiki bar, this was the person to talk to. However, adding to the decor of your own tiki bar is not the reason why we have Paul Torrigino on our show today. Twenty-one years is the time Paul Torrigino spent at Walt Disney Imagineering and over those 21 years, he worked as Production Artisan, Production Designer, Art Director, Concept Designer and Show Designer. He worked on most of the large Disney Imagineering projects, including one of Kevin’s personal favorites, Dinosaur in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. His versatility allowed him to stay with the company for all those years which, in turn, allowed him to work on a variety of projects in various capacities. Yes, he worked with animatronics, but in addition to all of this...well... allow me to throw out some familiar names: Maelstrom Disneyland Paris, or EuroDisney as it was referred to in the beginning Beastlie Kingdomme (often misspelled “Beastly Kingdom”) Tokyo Disney Sea just to name a few. Before all of this, however, Paul Torrigino was a Disney fan through his high school and college years much like myself and my cohorts as well as many of you listening. Except his path gave him the opportunity to fulfill many a Disney fan’s dream which is to become a Disney Imagineer. Fellow MOWicans, ladies, and gentlemen, enough reading, I present to you former Disney Imagineer, Paul Torrigino. Listen to his stories and treasure what he has done for the Disney company. What did you think about our interview with Paul Torrigino? Any comments? Share them at magicourway@gmail.com. In the Queue, we discuss the two big features that have been rumored to come out for MyMagic+ in the very near future. One involves Fastpass+ which is slated to come online in April 2016 and the other involves something called StoryMaker (release date TBD). There is no Guest Services for this episode. Annie and Dan return from their hiatus to... pretty much get back to business as usual. They go through the news of the week, which includes Guardians of the Galaxy Box Office woes in China, Speculation about Hollywood Studios, new hotels at Walt Disney World, MyMagic +, and the Dapper Dans singing on a Southwest Flight. Their main topic is reading through some good old fashioned Reddit Posts about Disney mishaps at the theme park, and rating their plausibility.
Russ is back from Walt Disney World and there's a bunch that was new to him. The News Wheel turns on rumors about Soarin', changes to the Food and Wine Festival, the return of paper and the continued travails of MyMagic+, and the Message Board Outrage of the Week.
This month Mr. Daps interviews Murray about his trip to Walt Disney World that took place earlier in June. Covered is the new MyMagic+ system, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and a few other places to visit at the resort. Together they cover a 7 day trip in about an hour!
Bad words have been said about My Magic +. Now hear more words. The Listener Interaction Satchel is full of questions about scaring your children, drafting Disney's worst, multiple people hating Dutch, Russ getting robbed, Disney's treatment of animals, Restaurantasaurus, and za. There's also 3 Good Minutes on STING and Star Wars.
So you want to start a revolution? It will be podcasted by the MMOM team. A very special Listener Interaction Satchel includes an incendiary question on MyMagic+, standing reservations, ideas for for Blizzard Beach, changes for the Swalphin, and the Great Theme Park Wars. 3 Good Minutes on the Dream Team, Nascar and Dutch's favorite person in the world.

Around the Hub is a game show based on ESPN’s Around the Horn. Four contestants from around the WDWNT Network of Podcasts match wits in a game of competitive banter. Points are awarded for good arguments and points may be deducted if a podcaster loses their train of thought or says something the host does not agree with. There are 3 rounds of play, starting off with the Rope Drop (which covers the biggest news stories of the week from the entire Walt Disney Company) and ending with the Face-Off between the last two podcasters standing. At the end of each round the podcaster with the lowest point total is eliminated. The winner of each episode gets a thirty second Meet ‘N’ Greet to discuss anything from the World of Disney that is on their minds. Join our distinguished panel as we dissect MyMagic+ and all the bells and whistles that go along with it. We play “WDW Would Ya'” and end with the rarely played “Grim Grinning Ghosts”. There’s also a meet-and-greet you won’t want to miss. Featuring: Tom Corless, Marci Smith, Scarlett Litton, and Justin Heyman.

Topics covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Disney Can Track Your Every Move with NSA-Style Wristbands" Families planning trips to one of Disney’s theme parks can now get waterproof rubber wristbands embedded with computer chips in lieu of paper tickets. When scanned, the bands can act as a park entry ticket, a FastPass, a hotel room key and a credit card. The “Magic Bands” — which are currently optional — are part of a new MyMagic+ “vacation management system” that can track guests as they move throughout the park. "Study Finds No Time Travelers On The Internet" If you had traveled from the future to the present, you might be likely to mention some things that you'd learned there (for example: buy this lottery ticket). Using this logic, physicists searched for prescient mentions of future events on the present-day internet, scouring Twitter, Facebook, Google, Google+ and Bing. They used these services to see if anybody had mentioned Pope Francis or the comet ISON before these terms existed, looking at the time span from the early 2000s to mid-2013, the idea being that both terms represented major events travelers-from-the-future might talk about somewhere online. Joe, Mike, Nick, and Sean discuss Universal's patent application for a ride reservation system similar to MyMagic+ at Walt Disney World. We also dive into WDW and UOR news and rumors, hidden mickeys, CityWalk's disappearing nightlife(!?!?), Blue Men, and answer your questions!
We discuss the benefits and perils of the new MyMagic+ experience at Walt Disney World, and also review Disney's Frozen in this week's episode of Mousetalgia. First, we talk about Walt Disney World's newest feature, My Disney Experience and MyMagic+, a system that has been getting a lot of press lately due to complications and bugs in the system. Technically still in testing, MyMagic+ promises to make vacations at the Walt Disney World resort a dream - but is the experience living up to the hype? Listen to Dave and Becky's experience with the new system and judge for yourself. In addition, they discuss the holidays at Walt Disney World, and get stranded on Maelstrom. Also, Jeff and Kristen discuss Disney animation's latest blockbuster, Frozen. Going back to princess-based fairy tales, Disney seems to be falling back into familiar territory, but does Frozen offer something fresh? We debate the merits of this solid box office hit. Plus - a great sweepstakes giveaway, holiday gift giving ideas - and more!

We were watching "Jurassic Park" on TV the other night and laughing at the part of the movie where paleontologist Dr. Grant has just seen the dinosaurs. He says, "I think we're out of a job." And Ian Malcolm (played by the totally awesome Jeff Goldblum) says, "Don't you mean extinct?" So many of the things we do here at CoasterRadio.com are inspired by pop culture and this week's show is no different. This week, we ask the audience to pick one type of ride that they would like to see leave the face of the earth. We're not looking for specific rides... only ride types. Some of the answers (especially from E.B.) are shocking! We also have a Live Trip Report from Magic Joe! Joe is normally part of the Window to the Magic Podcast, but this week, he brought his binaural audio gear to California's Great America to record an audio treat for our ears on their new coaster "Gold Striker." You'll feel like you're on the ride with him! The show then goes live to Orlando, Florida to talk with Mike's wife Molly. She's down in the theme park capital of the world visiting Mike and Colleen (who have been featured on the show several times.) They'll talk about the latest testing going on with MyMagic+ and some of the strange rumors floating around the Walt Disney World resort! And, don't forget to take our LISTENER SURVEY! We're working on Season Eight of CoasterRadio.com and want to hear from you guys about how the show is doing! Check out all of the show notes and links in our new interactive ZEEN - "In Styleee!" It's brand new for Season Seven!

The WDWNT Network out-scooped the New York Times in covering MyMagic+ and Around the Hub celebrates, then further dissects that news. Also covered is the shake up in parks management, some early Academy Awards buzz, and much more. The panel features Tom Corless, TouringPlans.com’s Scarlett Litton, Taylor Martina and Eric Lancy.

Imagine covering 40 different topics of discussion in a 60-minute show. Sounds exhausting, right? Mike and EB will attempt to it, as they lovingly "ripoff" one of their favorite ESPN programs, "Pardon the Interruption." PTI is known for its fast-paced conversation, incessant bickering between the hosts and rapid-fire topics. The show uses a countdown timer in order to keep the conversation moving. Once the time expires, the hosts hear a buzzer and they have to move on to the next topic. They also have an updated rundown of the show on the side of the screen. If CoasterRadio.com was a video podcast, this week's episode might look like this: But even though we're an audio podcast, you get the idea. Topics on this week's show include: * Doubts about Cedar Point's supremacy amongst theme parks * Universal getting into the MyMagic+ game * Choosing the #1 flat ride in the world * Replacements for Son of Beast * Lou Mongello being mentioned in the Spiderman comic book series * Adults-only nights at the parks * Iconic rides being retired * Tom Hanks as Walt Disney * Plus MUCH, MUCH MORE!
*Subscribe @ iTunes* Chad Emerson takes over for another episode of Emerson's Disney Files! This episode dives into the NEW Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Discussion on the business, new look, purpose behind the refresh, new attractions/restaurants, and challenges behind this huge investment. Chad also talks the NextGen concept...which is now known as MyMagic+. Sidenote: This conversation was recorded a few weeks ago. Enjoy!
