Another 1970s USTV Quartet with THE SHY YETI First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on November 5th 2023 This week, PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI is back for another in his series of trawls through what YOUTUBE has to offer in the way of classic American TV, and this time he's reached the mid-to-late-1970s, and his quartet of choices are DIANA, a 1973 American sitcom built around the considerable talents of DIANA RIGG; THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN featuring NICHOLAS HAMMOND in a short-lived action series from 1977 featuring everybody's friendly neighbourhood web-slinger; RHODA, a 1974 sitcom featuring VALERIE HARPER in a highly successful spinoff from THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW that lasted five seasons; and MRS COLUMBO, a perhaps misguided attempt at a COLUMBO spinoff featuring KATE MULGREW which, despite being retitled KATE LOVES A MYSTERY in order to divorce it from the original show, sank without trace after thirteen shows but may have been the spark that inspired MURDER, SHE WROTE. At the end of the hour, PAUL also introduces me to one far more successful show, the long-running daytime mystery drama known as THE EDGE OF NIGHT that qualifies as being in this 1970s selection simply because it ran from way, way before it in 1956 until deep into the 1980s. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.
We're celebrating 200 episodes with the very first live-action Spider-Man film – the pilot movie for 1977's The Amazing Spider-Man series! It's a strange mixed bag, which includes a good performance by Nicholas Hammond as Peter Parker, a divisive J. Jonah Jameson, a weird lack of Uncle Ben (and conflict for Peter), a shockingly dark premise from an otherwise boring villain, and some ambitious stunts and effects. We're watching The Amazing Spider-Man's pilot movie, Spider-Man (1977). Nicholas Hammond first appeared on Broadway at the age of just 11, and his career only opened up further from there, and never stopped. He's worked all over the world on stage, film and television. He's been in over 40 films, from Lord of the Flies to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, more than 250 TV shows, most notably the Amazing Spiderman, and he's made an award winning documentary of the true story behind what is undoubtedly his most celebrated role, one which has given pleasure to millions of people for nearly 60 years – Friedrich von Trapp in the 1965 film The Sound of Music. The spirits of Rodgers and Hammerstein have visited him once again, as he is currently appearing as the Chamberlain Sebastian in Cinderella, playing now at the Lyric Theatre. Nicholas shares some amazing stories from all parts of his career, with particular attention paid to The Sound of Music, and his musical selections include some pieces which are very special to him.
Nicholas Hammond first appeared on Broadway as the ten-year-old son of Sir Michael Redgrave and Googie Withers in Graham Greene's The Complaisant Lover, winning enthusiastic praise from the New York critics. From that first footstep onto the stage of the Barrymore Theatre, Nicholas has had a lifelong love of acting, whether on stage, film or television. He has had the good fortune to work all over the world, and with many of the greatest artists of the time. He has been featured in over 40 films, some 250 television shows and countless plays in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Theatre Company, and national tours all over the United States, Great Britain and Australia, performing the works of Graham Greene, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward, Alan Ayckbourn, Sean O'Casey and Neil Simon among many others. His global film career includes films from Lord of the Flies to Ladies in Black and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and starring in his own American prime time series The Amazing Spiderman. But, as he and his film “siblings” always say, no matter how many wonderful roles he plays, most people will always think of him as Friedrich Von Trapp in the most successful film musical of all time, Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. Nicholas' connection with Rodgers and Hammerstein has continued since making that film, and in 2019 he won first prize at the British Television Awards for a BBC documentary he wrote and presented, Climb'd Every Mountain with Nicholas Hammond, comparing the fictional story of the film to the factual story of the real Von Trapps, many of whom are his close friends to this day. For the Gordon Frost Organisation (now Crossroads Live Australia), he toured Australia and New Zealand with Dame Julie Andrews in a hugely successful two-person show, a wonderful reunion 50 years after they made the film. Nicholas Hammond returns to the stage in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. The fact that Julie Andrews played Ella in the first production of the show makes the connection even stronger, and for Nicholas to play Sebastian now, is a joy. Cinderella plays Sydney's Lyric Theatre from October 23rd. The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. The Cinema Bums kick off Web Head Summer by discussing the 1977 TV movie, Spider-Man! That's right, the original Spider-Man on film wasn't Tobey Maguire - it was Nicholas Hammond with samurai to fight, funk music to groove to, and $46 he needs to earn to pick up his mail. With this series, we're finally getting back to our roots: chaotic episodes about weird superhero movies! Tune in to hear Emmet explain why he walked out of Uncharted and Wade suffer through another TV-based quiz. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!
Remember when we did that bizarre, old Captain America movie? It's time to do something like that again. Nick and Jason hop right in on the new Moon Knight trailer before getting into the 1977 made-for-TV Spider-Man film that acted as a pilot for the short-lived live-action TV show starring Nicholas Hammond (where were you in No Way Home, huh?!). Then the guys get into episodes 4-6 of Daredevil.
Nicholas Hammond shares life lessons learned from being the first live-action Peter Parker/Spider-Man and working with Julie Andrews on The Sound of Music. Nicholas Hammond was the first actor to play a live-action Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 1970s. We discuss how Nicholas landed the role and what it meant to him to be the star of his own show. We dive into the decisions made on the show that upset Stan Lee and we discuss the current movies and with their approach to the Multi-verse how a 1970s Spider-Man could make a comeback. Before Nicholas became the first prime-time web-slinger he had a starring role as one of the 30 children in the original Lord of the Flies (1963) movie. We discuss the making of that movie and how the director navigated such a disturbing tale with unknown 10-year-olds. We also discuss Nicholas's role as Friedrich Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. Working directly with Julie Andrews had a profound impact on Nicholas's life and he share the lessons learned early on working with such an amazing person as Julie Andrews. We also discuss the time Nicholas was the big man on campus and what it was like creating a one-time iconic character on The Brady Bunch. This episode is... well... Amazing and ends with Nicholas's story on landing the role of Sam Wanamaker in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood. En garde! Dana Wynter returns, but this time she’s a former Higgins crush. Unfortunately, Higgins “accidentally” electrocutes her jerk husband with a fencing foil and is accused of his murder. But maybe the wife did it! Or her son, TV’s Spider-Man, Nicholas Hammond! Or maybe it’s the other guest star who we haven’t accounted for yet! We discuss Magnum’s limp and hand injury, find a lost bikini top, complain about awful looping, have a disagreement about the Atlanta Falcons, and Jason finally reads that listener letter. Also: A big announcement about the future of Magnum, Podcast! (Don’t worry.) Host Jason Snell, Philip Michaels and David J. Loehr.

We discuss Magnum’s limp and hand injury, find a lost bikini top, complain about awful looping, have a disagreement about the Atlanta Falcons, and Jason finally reads that listener letter. Also: A big announcement about the future of Magnum, Podcast! (Don’t worry.) Jason Snell, Philip Michaels and David J. Loehr.
While Kylan is off with another arachnid, Eric and Mike are joined by Nicholas Hammond of the 1977-79 The Amazing Spider-Man series. The guys chat about fun times and great memories of the show and also talk a little about Mr. Hammond's earlier works like The Lord of the Flies nd The Sound Of Music. […]
This episode will leave your sanity on the ropes!"The Lady on Thursday at Ten" aired on January 1, 1978. Show star Pamela Sue Martin rang in the year with her last ever appearance on The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, with John Karlen, Nicholas Hammond, Tony Burton, and Simon Oakland also featuring in the show.Nancy Drew's efforts to escape from New York take a tragic turn when she seemingly runs over a man in one of Manhattan's dark alleyways. Police officers at the scene assure her that the fellow was a nasty piece of work who'd escaped the Tombs. But the next day, the sleuth finds the authorities skeptical of her story. After all, no one has escaped from the Tombs in years! As she attempts to unravel the mystery, Nancy encounters crooked cops, fiendish nursing home aides, a character not-at-all inspired by the classic sports drama film Rocky, and a band of ethnically-stereotyped, singing boxers.Trust us, it's even nuttier than it sounds.Listen to Áine and Kevin trade jabs on hat-throwing hijinks, New York City subway posters, and one host's sick brand of interrogation tactics. Nota bene: We recorded this episode a few months ago when we were still in Brooklyn, and still figuring out podcasts. The show sort of broke us, the recording took place at around 2 a.m., and we then forgot about the whole thing until a few days ago! So please forgive that, the references to us living in Brooklyn, and the general ineptitude you've come to expect from us! We love Fred Williamson so we went back to his filmography for this episode. We look at the first 2 of the "Black Cobra" films. The first from 1987 is a boilerplate actioner with a typically cool performance from Williamson. The sequel "Black Cobra 2" from 1989 ups the ante by adding TV's Spiderman Nicholas Hammond as a sidekick when Williamson's character is sent to the Phillipines where he finds romance, intrigue and danger! These are both appealing and will not stretch your brain with simple plots and wall-to-wall fun! We then chat about other things we've seen and events in our lives. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
In this episode I discuss exam reform, online learning, change management, and the importance of character education.

In this episode we discuss the first prime-time 'live-action' version of Spiderman to hit screens. The series 'The Amazing Spider-Man', starring Nicholas Hammond, debuted in 1977, and ran off and on until 1979. Although only 13 episodes were produced, it still holds a place in our hearts as the first time we, as kids, saw a live version of Spider-Man. We discuss all the Pros and Cons associated with this show. We also discuss the weird Japanese version of Spiderman which debuted in 1978. Loosely based (VERY loosely) on the Marvel Comics hero. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-adventures-of/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-adventures-of/support
As always, recorded live and in the raw (sorry about the quality on this one). Seanorama talks history with Spider-Man. What is it about the character that makes him remain so popular almost 60 years later? This brings up talk of bullies and jocks, the relatability of Peter Parker, and the life lessons he gave me. He also talks about Spider-Man on the small and large screen including all its iterations from the 60's cartoon, to Nicholas Hammond's live action version, to the 90's Spider-Man cartoon, leading up to why we were lucky enough to get Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man. He also addresses WHY “comic-book” movies like Spider-Man ARE cinema and are so important to the world and WHY they changed the game, probably more so than those other “real” cinematic films. It's a surprise Flopcast recording live from the middle of Super Megafest! (Kornflake wasn't even supposed to be there, so we were all just shocked and delighted.) We discuss our whole silly day at the convention, wandering around eyeballing the celebrity guests, including Spider-Man's Nicholas Hammond, 3rd Rock's French Stewart, MASH's Loretta Swit, The Munsters' Butch Patrick, wrestlers Tony Atlas and Ted DiBiase, practically everybody from The Warriors, all three Dukes of Hazzard cousins (Bo, Luke, AND Daisy)... and Kornflake's 80s sitcom hero, Tony Danza. (After Kornflake's historic meeting with Tony, we may have figured out who the boss really was.) Plus: Rubber Chicken Comics, Muppets, Legos, bootleg DVDs, a photo op with HR Pufnstuf and Sigmund the Sea Monster, and a surprise cameo by one of our favorite local costumers. You should have been there. It was just ridiculous.

As a tribute to the late Stan Lee, we've gone back to the first live-action adaptation of his work. If you don't include a cheap cameo in a weird kids' TV show. In the feature length pilot of what became THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, we really do see Peter Parker do whatever a spider can. But only if the spider in question wore massive collars on its shirt, live in a grotty attic, and keep trying to borrow $46 from everyone.
Nicholas talks about Lord of the Flies, Sound of Music, Spiderman, Quentin Tarantino's Manson movie and much more. Justin King looks at the history of the Spitfire plane that changed the course of WWII as seen in the documentary of the same name.

Lucio Flavio Arriano. - "Anábasis". Jenofonte. - "Aléxandros". Valerio Massimo Manfredi. - "El genio de Alejandro Magno". Nicholas Hammond. - "Alejandro Magno". Mary Renault. - "Alejandro y las Águilas de Roma". Javier Negrete. - "Alejandro Magno: Rey de Macedonia, Unificador de Grecia, Conquistador de Asia". Gisbert Haefs. También 2 recomendaciones cinéfilas, la primera es obvia: - "Alexander". Año de producción 2004. Dirigida por Oliver Stone y protagonizada por Colin Farrell. - "Alexander the Great". Año de producción 1956. Dirigida por Robert Rossen y protagonizada por Richard Burton. Aguardamos de verdad, que os guste.
For over a year the hosts of Now Playing have watched and reviewed every movie based off a Marvel Comics series, but now they enter into their last Marvel review series with the most popular Marvel Comic character of all time -- Spider-Man! His red and blue spandex suit is iconic, outshining even Mickey Mouse in global brand awareness, and his 2002 movie even bested Star Wars in the box office. But before Tobey Maguire became the face of Spider-Man, there was Nicholas Hammond. Continuing their roster of prime time superhero shows, CBS ordered a two-hour pilot movie featuring Spider-Man, a college student and part-time photographer. Can the production budget of a 70s television show do justice to Spider-Man's amazing powers? Listen to Arnie, Stuart, and Jakob's review to find out!
