Er hofft, dass noch eines beim BVB hinzukommt: „Im allercoolsten Fall kriege ich noch mal zehn Sekunden oder eine Minute oder wenn Niko Kovač möchte auch fünf, das kriege ich hin. Hauptsache, ich komme rein, mache mein 300. Bundesligaspiel vor 80.000 Zuschauern, vor meinen Liebsten.“ Süle spricht in dem sehr emotionalen Gespräch über seine gesamte Karriere, in der er für Hoffenheim, Bayern und Dortmund spielte. Und diese Diskrepanz erzeugt im Umfeld eine ständige Grundskepsis, die BVB-Experte Jonas Ortmann (Funke) im Fever Pit'ch Podcast so beschreibt: „Beim BVB kommt dieser latente Negativismus sofort hoch – man ist eigentlich nie zufrieden.“ Gemeint ist nicht Miesmacherei, sondern eine kulturelle Haltung: Ein BVB-Sieg fühlt sich für viele erst dann richtig gut an, wenn er auch ästhetisch passt.Da liefert Niko Kovač aber bewusst etwas anderes. Sein Fußball steht für Struktur, Kontrolle, defensive Ordnung. Unter ihm hat Dortmund die zweitwenigsten Gegentore der Liga kassiert, gehört bei intensiven Läufen zu den Topteams, gewinnt Spiele über Standards, Kompaktheit und Arbeitsfußball – und jetzt in Leverkusen erstmals auch wieder ein Topspiel. Der BVB ist wieder schwer zu bespielen, wirkt stabiler als in den Jahren zuvor, aber weniger identitätsstiftend und weniger emotional.Wie dieser nüchterne BVB funktioniert, zeigt sich auch im Umgang des Trainers mit der Szene um Serhou Guirassy und dessen verweigerten Handschlag. Kovač reagierte sofort, ruhig, nahm jede Schärfe aus der Situation. Er machte die Szene nicht größer als nötig, suchte direkt das Gespräch, ordnete die Emotion ein. Es war derselbe pragmatische Führungsstil, der die Mannschaft stabilisiert – und sie mit Platz drei, klarem Kurs aufs Champions-League-Achtelfinale und einer realistischen Pokalchance besser dastehen lässt, als es sich anfühlt.Und genau darin steckt das Dortmunder Dilemma.
