Episode 75. Host Troy Saunders has an engaging conversation with soul and R&B singer Noel Gourdin. Gourdin is best known for his chart-topping hit “The River,” but this interview explores a deeper retrospective into Gourdin's life and stellar 20-year career. Gourdin's music smoothly incorporates classic soul, R&B, and hip hop, bringing styles from different eras together to create something uniquely his own.Gourdin signed a record deal with Sony at age 24, releasing “After My Time” in 2008. That massive success was followed by “Fresh: The Definition” (2011), and “City Heart, Southern Soul” (2014). All three albums are worth listening to, as well as various singles and EPs he released over the years.Gourdin talks about how he makes sure every record he releases isn't “wasted” and they get the attention they deserve. Troy and Gourdin discuss how important it is to make a great impression for every song that's released since you never know when someone is hearing an artist for the first time and you want to make sure to earn their attention. Gourdin wants to always be memorable when people hear his records.Gourdin shares a little-known fact that Frank Ocean (under his original name, Christopher Breaux) was part of Gourdin's debut album, “After My Time,” and he remembers hanging out with him at Chipotle. Gourdin explains how fortunate he was to make that album with so many talented people and it remains an extraordinary moment in his career. This classic album is still available, so go out and buy it!What would Gourdin say to someone breaking into the industry now? “Be yourself. Don't try to be like anybody else.” If someone gives you a no, that means you're not supposed to be there. But, that yes will change your life. Keep on moving, keep on pushing, and look for those vindication moments. “If you have a passion for it, you will rise. The cream rises.”They close out with his latest single, “Get To You,” along with “Gatcha,” both of which will be included on his upcoming EP. Be sure to check out the latest from this amazing artist.Listen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa. Nostalgia, Ultra (stylized as nostalgia,ULTRA. and occasionally nostalgia/ultra) is the debut mixtape by American recording artist Frank Ocean. It was released on February 16, 2011. Ocean was inspired to make the mixtape, after Hurricane Katrina in his native New Orleans and his subsequent relocation to Los Angeles. After joining alternative hip hop group Odd Future in 2010, he self-released the mixtape, without initial promotion. Nostalgia, Ultra has a unique R&B aesthetic and features surreal themes and nostalgic lyrics. The songs mostly focus on interpersonal relationships, personal reflection, and social commentary. Following its release, the mixtape received rave reviews from music critics. The cover features a picture of a bright orange 1980s BMW E30 M3, Ocean's "dream car", in plain sight amidst lush greenery. In May 2011, Def Jam announced its plans to release the mixtape as an EP on July 26, 2011. However, the release of the EP was indefinitely delayed in July 2011 and has since been cancelled. Two singles were released from the aborted EP version: "Novacane", and "Swim Good". Both songs received music videos directed by Australian director Nabil Elderkin. Ocean embarked on a solo concert tour through North America and Europe to promote the record, playing a total of 7 shows. In addition, his 2012 performance at the Coachella Music Festival included several live renditions from the release including "Strawberry Swing" and "LoveCrimes". The mixtape appeared on several music critics' and publications' end-of-year albums lists. Controversy arose in March 2012 over the song "American Wedding", a remake of the song "Hotel California" by American rock band Eagles. Recording artist Kanye West was reportedly a fan of the mixtape, which led to Ocean appearing on the album Watch the Throne. Subsequently, Ocean collaborated with artists Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z after they were introduced to the mixtape through West. Following its release, both Ocean and the mixtape have developed a cult following. The mixtape was followed by the release of Ocean's debut album Channel Orange to similar critical acclaim in 2012. Frank Ocean was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He made the decision to pursue a career in music at a young age, and as a teen, he did neighborhood chores to fund his early studio sessions. After Hurricane Katrina hit his hometown of New Orleans, Ocean moved to Los Angeles to pursue a recording career. He initially had problems maintaining a career while juggling a job, due to spending too much time in the recording studios, making him late for his jobs. He began to write songs and he sold them to other recording artists; selling his first song to Noel Gourdin at the age of 19. Discussing as to why he chose to write songs, Ocean commented that "I feel at a higher level of consciousness when I'm being creative." Eventually, he landed songwriting gigs for established artists like John Legend and Justin Bieber where he made substantially more money. In late 2009, he met producer Tricky Stewart, who helped Ocean sign a contract with Def Jam Recordings as a solo artist. However, he was initially unable to build a relationship with the company. In protest, Ocean joined the rap collective Odd Future which introduced him to artists such as Tyler, The Creator and Hodgy Beats. His debut song was "SteamRoller" on the Domo Genesis album Rolling Papers. Ocean garnered acclaim and generated interest while in the group, and Rolling Stone magazine's Jonah Weiner called him a "gifted avant-R&B smoothie". During his time with the group he recorded and self-released Nostalgia, Ultra without any pre-release promotion on his Tumblr account. The mixtape samples songs from Radiohead, Coldplay, MGMT, Mr. Hudson and The Eagles, which Ocean sings over. Ocean, when uploading the album to iTunes, labeled it as bluegrass and death metal, out of arbitrariness. When asked about why he uploaded the songs in that way, he replied; "I don't want to se --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/king-public-domain/support

The mixtape samples songs from Radiohead, Coldplay, MGMT, Mr. Hudson and The Eagles, which Ocean sings over. Ocean, when uploading the album to iTunes, labeled it as bluegrass and death metal, out of arbitrariness. Myrix Media Group CEO and music producer Reginald L. Myricks aka Regi Myrix have always had a love for music. His father played the guitar in the household and at age 14, he took up the guitar where he played local gigs in New Jersey. He had the opportunity to play in backing bands for bigger artists, one band being the real voice behind the group formerly known as Milli Vanilli. In 1992, Myricks returned to the U.S., this time as a civilian and still playing the occasional gig. As a starving musician, he decided to enroll in Lincoln Tech Institute where he got into a software engineering career. In 2006, Myricks got back into music as a producer, starting the label Infinity Worldwide Music with his brothers. The company allowed him to create music for artists he signed, some opening for large acts such as Beenie Man. After two years, in 2008, the company's focus shifted to only music production where he would sell and lease his music online. In 2017, Myricks and his brother Art Myrix launched an offshoot of Infinity Worldwide Music called Myrix Media Group (MMG), expanding into acting and modeling coaching services. In the summer of 2018, MMG launched its interactive website which sells/leases instrumentals to clients worldwide. Regi Myrix's production ranges in various genres such as rock, R&B/soul, and pop, there's something for every artist's tastes, ranging from 70s soul to the 90s New Jack swing sound. 2021 has been a very busy and productive year so far with 2 singles released earlier this year, Step Into Love by Noel Gourdin, Remain Friends by NexxUp, and the new album BlakButtahVOL2. Regi Myrix and Hil St. Soul have had a history of success with an earlier hit record, “No Worries” Then more recently with the SMASH HIT Single “One Life” and now In My Groove” is sure to have the same success and delight, R&B lovers, across the globe!! To describe or define Alvin Garrett with a singular title may be a near impossible task. However, after getting to know him, one would have to agree that he is certainly a Pioneer of Inspirational Soul. This Alabama-born-and-raised preacher's son, has woven over twenty years of diverse experience in the entertainment industry with the common thread of hope and inspiration. Whether its R&B, Gospel, Pop, or Jazz, you will recognize Garrett's inspirational fingerprint in all his music and business endeavors. Garrett's masterful songwriting, captivating smile, and spine-tingling voice is reminiscent of soul music legends, Sam Cooke and Al Green. This honorable comparison began in 2015 with the release of the soul-riveting song, “By Myself,” which many still compare to the timeless and epic nature of Sam Cooke's “A Change is Gonna Come.” In the summer of 2020, the Grammy-nominated songwriter continued to carry the torch of musical activism with his thought provoking EP, The Awakening. With the weight of the Covid-19 pandemic and the heaviness of social unrest, Alvin Garrett crafted a collection of songs that sought to speak to and awaken the Soul of America. Now, Garrett is lifting spirits and lightening the mood with his beautiful new project, The Lightness of Love. Garrett, himself, has traveled a long road in his musical career. Not only is he a business owner, professional bassist, music and event producer, recording and performing artist, he is an award-winning songwriter. He has written and arranged songs for Joe, Kelly Rowland, Fantasia, Johnny Gill, Ruben Studdard, Noel Gourdin, Jordan Knight, Deitrick Hadden, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, and many others. In addition to a Grammy nomination, Garrett has won a Soul Train Award, a Dove Award, and a Stellar Award. Garrett's 2012 debut album, Expose Yourself, was critically acclaimed by many as one of the sexiest smooth R&B albums of our time. In 2019, he released his second full-length album, This HILL, which was his homage to life lessons and his personal philosophy…”Because of HOPE, I have the INSPIRATION to pursue what I LOVE at the risk of LOSS.” This project was also the foundation for his new independent label, HILL Entertainment. In 2015, Garrett's love for entertainment, education, and empowerment led to the development of an innovative songwriting program called, The Write Life. He currently teaches this amazing class with The Dannon Project, which is the country's #1 Department of Labor funded re-entry and social services agency based in Birmingham, AL. The Write Life has become a transformative tool for recruitment, engagement, retention, and motivation of their participants. Alvin says, “I absolutely love to motivate and encourage people by showing them how to utilize the power of words and music to sculpt their future.” Reach out to Alvin Garrett online @: Facebook: thealvingarrett Instagram: thealvingarrett Twitter: thealvingarrett YouTube: TheAlvinGarrett Website: AlvinGarrett.com Listen to Alvin Garrett's latest singles now on Spotify: The Lightness of Love - https://open.spotify.com/track/25jLTkmhOxGwAwov5tHz5O?si=f3693e4df2b14fbd Flowers https://open.spotify.com/track/48yQ8VSx8lxUOTXRx2JJtA?si=7eafe5a3ca95437b For more information and news, check out our website and on social media: www.BringBackSoulMusic.com. Hilary Mwelwa the voice that is Hil St. Soul (pronounced Hill Street Soul). The striking Zambian born Hilary Mwelwa burst onto the UK music scene in the early 2000s and has not looked back. She has shared the stage with D'Angelo, Kelis, Macy Gray, and Angie Stone and collaborated with Incognito and Noel Gourdin. Her infectious grooves, poetic and self-empowering lyrics are a hallmark of her soulful, sensuous, and hypnotic vocals. Born in Lusaka, Zambia, Hilary Mwelwa relocated to London with her family at age five. As a child, she adopted her father's love of music, as their home was immersed with the sounds of traditional Zambian music along with American R&B/Soul icons Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder. As a graduate of London's Westminster University, Hilary had early ambitions to go into the science field and earned a degree in biological sciences. Hil St. Soul delivers the kind of music that promises to stand the test of time. Blessed with an intensely rich, soul-drenched, and honey-toned alto and armed with serious lyrical and compositional sensibilities, Mwelwa's 2006 SOULidified showcased her powerful chops and soul-stirring vocals and highlighted the steamy and sexy duo with Dwele, “Baby Come Over," and the endearing “Sweet On You.” Black Rose followed in 2008 featuring the catchy anthem "Don't Forget The Ghetto" and the dreamy "Sweetest Days." She was brought up on a diet of Soul, R&B, Gospel, and Pop music from an early age. Her personal motto is to live life to the fullest and to spend your time doing what you love. You have to enjoy each day as if it were your last.” New single now out everywhere online! "Heaven Must Be like this" check it out!

Noel Gourdin : debut his new CD "Fresh: The Definition " Remember Noel Gourdin? His track "The River" made a modest impact back in 2008, and he went on to release his debut album After My Time, which didn't yield another hit but wasn't a bad album overall. Since that time, however, he has been out the spotlight. Well, that's all about to change as Noel has a new single, "Beautiful," and a new album, Fresh: The Definition, due for release this April. Those familiar with Noel's earlier work will fondly recall his mix of classic and contemporary soul sounds, and that's exactly what we get on "Beautiful." The smooth, mid-tempo foot-tapper sees Noel apologizing to his lady for the things he's called her in the past and promises that he'll only be using the word "Beautiful" to describe her now. Awwww. That's a beautiful thing, indeed.

Soul have had a history of success with an earlier hit record, “No Worries” Then more recently with the SMASH HIT Single “One Life” and now In My Groove” is sure to have the same success and delight, R&B lovers, across the globe!!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/ladydiva-live-radio/exclusive-content
