Gosh I loved this book and chat, loved Georgia! What Would I Do to You imagines an Australia that has brought back capital punishment, with the stipulation that it is the victims family that have to do it themselves...talk about a premise!!!!! I also got to find out more about Georgia's important role as an Author Ambassador with Chapters for Change; an incredible charity to combat Cambodia's high illiteracy rate. The Readathon is just around the corner and it is honestly the most fantastic charity; https://www.instagram.com/chaptersforchangeau?igsh=MXUyZHowcnMydnZvbA== is their insta page and it is super easy to help from there!!!! Why is voluntourism so bad? And how can you join the Chapters for Change readathon? All this and more in our brand new episode with special guest, Human & Hope Founder and CEO SALLY HETHERINGTON!About Sally: In 2011, at 25, Sally Hetherington bought a one-way ticket to Cambodia. She found that voluntourism was causing harm, deepening local poverty.Sally supported a team in Cambodia to develop Human and Hope Association Cambodia (HHA Cambodia). They built a community centre in rural Siem Reap, and developed the locally run organisation to help locals lift themselves out of poverty.Sally achieved her goal of becoming redundant. HHA Cambodia is now entirely run by local Cambodian staff, with no foreign staff, volunteers or board members. This led her to write her first book ‘It's Not About Me', highlighting the negative impact of voluntourism on local communities in Cambodia and globally. She was awarded an Order of Australia medal at age 33.Episode available now!Of the Publishing Persuasion is a podcast for writers at all stages, shedding light on the journey to publication and beyond. Yet again I was reminded why it is important to read. You sometimes stumble upon works of literature that just touch you, make you reflect and you never would have thought it would have the impact it had beforehand. 'Kim Jiyoung, born 1982' was one of these books for me. I loved it and can wholeheartedly recommend it. Go check it out!

In this episode of the Defence Connect Podcast, Captain Dylan Conway and host Liam Garman discuss BrothersNBooks, a brand-new charity founded by CAPT Conway to encourage reading as a form of therapy. The pair discuss CAPT Conway's journey, having been in hospital for 14 months following a back injury where he underwent eight operations, and how he used reading as a form of therapy (or “bibliotherapy”) to support him through the experience. CAPT Conway then introduces BrothersNBooks' brand-new endeavour – the 5in50 challenge – where participants are encouraged to read five books over 50 days, while raising money for Legacy Australia. CAPT Conway assures listeners that the 5in50 challenge is, in fact, the world's coolest readathon. If you'd like to take part in the 5in50 challenge and raise funds for Legacy Australia, learn more here. Enjoy the podcast and happy reading, The Defence Connect Team

Sometimes you just need to get up at 5AM and beautifully read, ya know?Vee recounts her experiences reading This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, a wonderfully crafted sapphic romance about post-human time travelling agents... need I say more? And Jess gushes about the book that actually broke her reading slump: Beach Read by Emily Henry, a contemporary romance/romantic comedy (somebody tell me what the difference is) with quick banter and uncomfortably timed animal excretions.

As a mood reader, picking out a list of books in advance doesn't usually work out but slap the word ‘readathon' on it and maybe I can get behind it. I found books that could be associated with various aspects of the show Gilmore Girls and plan to read a bunch next month.
