If someone out there right now listening is struggling or going through some depression I have the best news ever. You hear this a lot but I want to explain it and testify to it. Focusing on God is the most healthy thing you can do in your entire life. Life is so good when you are learning about God and thinking about God and even talking about God. He is an endless mystery, but one we get to know in a way that we don't deserve. We as humans crossed and disrespected our creator over the centuries and even the years in our own personal lives. One of the many things I love about Jesus, is he's deeper than anyone in the history of people. He uses these amazing stories to really communicated a deep message with us. It's beautiful and it's one of the reasons I am madly in love with him. This message is deeper than deep. It's about God, It's about the son, it's about us. This is a picture painting of the love he has for us. It honestly is a declaration for how we should live as followers of Christ. We as children of God. This is why I love the book of John so much guys. It is the meaning behind why Jesus did what he did, and said what he said. It's truly beautiful and if you read any book in the Bible in your life, please read John. It will change your understanding, heart, and spirit forever. Quote From the Show: "Jesus is the son of God. Never forget that, and don't be afraid to let people know that. It's the truth and some people can't handle the truth. That doesn't mean you should dim your light for them. Shine bright, let the world know you rock with Jesus. Loose some friends. Loose some instagram followers. Jesus lost a lot more for you." Share This Podcast
My mind blows with how perfect and special Jesus was. It blows my mind God gave us Him. God gave us this book to know about Him and to know God's heart. The purpose of God. The power of God. The love of God. - Hear about His Goodness on this episode as Jesus talks to The Samaritan Woman at the Well. Such a great message behind it! Life lesson! - We are in the book of John & Dabble in Mark for the amazing story of the woman touching Jesus Robe! GREAT FAITH! Let's Vibe with Jesus! Share This Podcast

HAPPY MONDAY MOTIVATION! Welcome back to the weekly podcast No More Excuses! Thank you for listening and sharing this podcast and don't forget to connect with me on Instagram, twitter and Facebook! OMG! YOU MUST LISTEN IN as this week I did something I've NEVER done... I have a guest giving tips on mindset! Last week's podcast was about purging professionally, which plays off of everyone purging/de-cluttering your homes once we went on lock-down. So, I challenged you to do the same in your professional life! Sort through business cards, file folders, stacks of papers, binders and even contacts in your email and social media. How'd you do? Listen in this week as I share some of what I did, and, yes, I asked Chandra Medina a mental health professional and life coach to give tips on the "last purge" as we begin our "re-emergence". Mentally, many people are having anxiety and want to stay "quarantined" and that's OK. However, at some point, we must re-open. And, we need to listen to Chandra and use her tips to be able to mentally be ready and able to handle things. Even if "YOU ARE OK", how will you react to someone who doesn't seem to be? We are still in uncertain times, as we begin to dip our toes back into the outside world, and figure things out. Stay healthy, be smart. And... HAPPY MONDAY MOTIVATION! Welcome back to the weekly podcast, No More Excuses! Thank you for listening and sharing my podcast. And, this week, whoever shares my podcast gets a chance to WIN a set of my 3 books! I'll draw a name on Friday and announce the winner on Monday in Podcast #173! So SHARE AWAY please! Thank you again for your continued investing in YOUR Badassness! WOW! Last week was a "WEEK"! Lots going on – personally and professionally – however on Friday I was talking with someone about all the whacky things that had happened, and she reminded me that Mercury is in retrograde! Well, that makes sense! But... it's not always good! Although the distractions were good that happened Wednesday and Thursday, the result was NOT! I missed calling a prospective client! I know I know... that happens to everyone, but it's NOT normal for me and that's NOT how I want to start out with someone. There was definitely a glitch with my calendars syncing. (Mercury retrograde), but I did NOT use that as my apology excuse! Life happens – good and bad – and although it was a good distraction, it created a negative effect on my business. Last week's podcast was about sticking your toe in the water, empowering others and creating a POSITIVE ripple effect. And well, sometimes you can cause the opposite. For example, in THIS WEEK'S PODCAST, I talk about how a client's lack of time management and allowing her life to become a "shit show" has caused a negative effect on me, on the attendees of the group she's part of and, I'm guessing her customers as well. YOUR REPUTATION PRECEDES YOU! Your reputation IS your BRAND! How do others perceive it? Are you one that's always apologizing for [fill in the blank]? Or is it a fluke, like a BIG DISTRACTION [and a glitch in the calendars syncing]? Listen in this week and then email me or post in the comments when SHIT WENT SIDEWAYS for you and how you handled it? What kind of ripple effect did it have? And don't forget... SHARE THIS PODCAST [make sure you tag me so I know] or if you email it, just include ME in the email sballard@growingforward.biz to be included in the drawing! I greatly appreciate it! Have a great week and I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers! Sandi

Welcome to the Mind Your Own Business Podcast! Today we chat about your holiday marketing plan, as well as planning tips for the year ahead. We discuss: Christmas cards: Always use a photo you've taken, and always include your logo and studio information as well. In addition to it being a product you can sell to your clients. Christmas cards (or even gift baskets!) are a great way to recognize vendors that support you. A holiday open house: An open house is a great way to recognize your past clients, and it can be done even if you don't have a studio. Rent a space if you need to. Have fun with it! Utilize your blog: Post holiday tips, along with events in your community. Teach your clients to take better photos through workshops. It may seem counterintuitive, but teaching your clients how to take better photos of their families actually helps you stand out as THE photo expert in the circle of influence. Partner with organizations in your community. Start planning for the year ahead which organizations you want to work with next year. Cause-related marketing is powerful. Figuring out tradeshows and conventions you're planning on going to. Now is the time to start planning which conventions you want to go to next year. Conventions are a great a time to open up new opportunities, and even scout out new equipment. Arrange to have meet up with people for meals beforehand. Know what booths you want to hit. Have a followup strategy after the event, such as a "nice to meet you" email, or even a thank you card. Select "marketing partners" for 2019: Reach out to businesses that shares your audience. Refer work to each other. Put together a booklet of recommended vendors. For example, if you're a wedding photographer, that would be dress makers, florists, caterers, event halls, bakeries. The key is to make friends with these folks and be helpful to them. It's all about building relationships! Have suggestions on future topics you want us to cover? Welcome to the Mind Your Own Business Podcast! Today we chat with wedding photographers David Scruggs and Jill Smith about several things that define a photographer as a professional, so that you not only rarely miss those important moments in a subject's life, but NEVER compromise on the quality of an image: Listen, listen, listen - your role when capturing memories is to know and understand your client. That can only come with listening to them and building a relationship based on understanding their needs. You have to see the world through their eyes. Never compromise your skill set - Being a photographer is about meeting your client's needs and having the skills to photograph at any time, regardless of the degree of difficulty. Of course there will be times when something that comes up that's simply over your head, but that doesn't change the importance of a never-ending quest for your own education. Backup gear - When you least expect it, something is going to go wrong with your gear. Normal wear and tear, a dropped camera body or lens, a piece of equipment stolen - NEVER be without backup gear for those "just in case" moments. Always be on time - Your clients trust you to be where you're supposed to be and always on time. And, even if you arrive just a few minutes late, you've created stress that wasn't necessary. Keep your promises - NEVER make a promise you can't keep. Build a relationship - In any business, but especially photography, it's important to build an ongoing relationship both leading up to an event and especially afterwards. Your success is about your ability to build trust. Exceed expectations - Remember - "There are no traffic jams along the extra mile!" Roger Staubach Love your career choice and show your passion for capturing memories - You can't capture images that tug at people's heartstrings if your own heart isn't in it! Recognize the need for change - Whether it's your own style or simply tracking consumer trends, being a pro is about adapting and being able to stay relevant to consumer demands. Support your associates and the industry - While this is outside the client/photographer relationship, a strong network can also help you through some of the most difficult challenges. Be involved in your local guild or association. Be helpful to other photographers and you'll find they'll also be there for you. Things come up that just aren't planned, but working together there's nothing you can't accomplish. Have fun and be fun to work with - "Fun" is one of those words so often lost in business today. Building trust, capturing memories and being an outstanding artist has a core focus on loving what you do. Everybody has a bad day now and then, but being a professional photographer is about loving people and seeing the world through their eyes and often heart. I'm exhausted after "having to" focus so hard for so long to prepare for the two national conferences I spoke at! Which went very well! It's hard to STAY focused regularly let alone when you're preparing for something big! Last week's podcast was about applying FOCUS to something you want to achieve by the end of the year and seeing how much progress you can make. Yes, creating BOUNDARIES, EXPECTATIONS AND HABITS will help you create and keep your focus. But yes, it's easy to have it stolen from you, isn't it?! Listen in this week I talk about what was stealing MY focus, and how I handled it. My "environment" wasn't set up for SUCCESS, so I took a break from my conference prep and FIXED MY OWN SHIT! Listen in and then email me what's DISTRACTING you, and what you can do about it! And, if you can't figure it out, or you aren't sure how to "fix your shit", set up a 30-min call with me and together we WILL! Now go SHARE THIS PODCAST... please! Cheers! Sandi

Welcome to Beyond Technique, a podcast empowering photographers to bring their businesses to the next level! All images copyright Jay Watson Photography We discuss in detail: how Jay got started in photography the art of staying focused finding the right match in clients building relationships and keeping in touch intelligently the role PhotoShelter plays in the success of his business the role of professionalism self-correcting your professional path advice for those wanting to break into lifestyle and editorial photography Bonus! Here are 10 Tips of Jay's Tips for New Photographers 1. Start assisting. Make yourself available to other photographers. Start from the ground up as a volunteer assistant, 2nd assistant, and then to a 1st assistant as you get more experience. 2. Learn more about the photo business. Join EP, APA, or ASAP. Each site has terrific resources for business related info. Get the single best resource I have ever read: "Best Business Practices For Photographers" book by John Harrington. It’s a book. Study it! 3. Don't be afraid. Start shooting commercial jobs now and don't be afraid to ask for money. Yes you need experience, but you also can't afford to work for free. Learn about marketing, pricing, estimating, billing, and contracts Don’t take on an assignment that is over your head. Always be able to deliver. 4. Don't be so hard on yourself. Nobody ever said photography was easy, cheap, or fast. These are all misconceptions. It’s okay to make mistakes and to be frustrated. It takes years to gain experience. Embrace the hard work, and try to enjoy the process along the way. 5. Shoot great content that matches what your target audience needs. Hi ya! 6. Build the best website you can. Showcase your best work with 2-4 galleries (or genres of work) with roughly 12-30 images in each gallery. Don't build a gallery for every genre of photography. Show your focused strengths. Shoot a creative self portrait that is just as strong and creative as the work in your portfolio. Treat the bio portrait like an assignment portrait. Write a strong bio that avoids cliches in 2-3 short paragraphs. Mention your specialties, your experience, and a few personal facts about you. The site should be on your own domain name. For both new and working photographers looking to refresh their careers: 7. Work on improving your technical skills. Experiment with new tools. Commercial work demands that you can produce work with some level of predictability. The more you know, the more reliable you become. It also builds up your own confidence, and will open up new creative doors. If you are lacking in certain skills like lighting or retouching - practice and look for a good workshop to fill the void. 8. Start a new body of work. New theme. New genre. Give yourself a new outlet to explore without any expectations. 9. Make art or photography part of your daily lifestyle. This means being active every single day of your life. This could be time spent looking at images, reading new techniques, practicing new skills, testing new gear, writing down ideas, sending emails to potential clients, researching, sharing/posting images, working on your portfolio, or of course shooting something new. 10. Don't let yourself get in the way. You can always find a reason not to shoot. Excuses like "I need more time, more money, more equipment, better locations, or better subjects" will easily keep you from moving forward. Make due with what you have, rent gear, and find creative workarounds. It’s never going to get easier. You know what to do so just do it. Pulpo beard oils maybe some of the most uniquely scented oils out on the market. Jorge Montes, Pulpo, is the man behind these well crafted scents and the founder of this up and coming beard oil company. Pulpo was one of the first companies that reached out to me well over a year ago to have me try out some of his products. I️ graciously accepted knowing that I was going to have to give him some constructive feedback on all the products he sent me. Over time I️ tried out all of the scents and they got shelved due to a busy lifestyle and a growing podcast. I️ felt it was time to reach back out to Pulpo and hear the story, learn the reasons why and to finally give him the review that he and his product deserved. I️ needed to entrusted a friend to handle all my product reviews under The Beardcaster name and branding. I️ want my name and reputation to be held in highest regard as someone who is detailed, trusted, and honest when it comes reviews and advice on products. Seeing as how I am but one man who focuses his time on his family, his podcast, events, and club involvement, I️ needed to find someone who I️ knew could help give me a super detailed, well trusted, thoughtful, and insightful review of whatever I️ sent their way, and feel confident to represent the “Beardcaster” name. I introduce you to Brandon King, fan, past guest, friend. Here is his fantastic review he did for us for Pulpo Beard Oils- A Month w/ Pulpo Beard Oils I know there are a lot of gentlemen out there looking for a beard oil that meets all the expectations of well...... being manly w/o the sacrifice in fragrance. In the coming months we hope to check out new, inventive, and creative companies that are going out of their way to bring you the freshest and most cutting edge in follicle stimulation. This past month I have been doing an intense product review of Pulpo Beard Oils Coconilla and Pina Orange. Below is how Pulpo stood up to our expectations: Smell With these two scents the first thing I noticed was how unique the smells were. The scents were quite refreshing, not to over powering, but just enough that at any point in the day my ADD kicked in wanting more, I got a little stimulation from the Socal sun or some wind coming from the coast. From some of the research I found about some of the ingredients, I was able to put the oils to more than one use. In the morning when I needed a pick me up I went to the Pina Orange, and at night when I wanted to come down from a long day of medical school I put on the Coconilla. Absorption Absorption is one of the most important things when it comes to beard oil, b/c if the oils are not absorbed, then they are not doing what we want and that is to nourish the hair follicle and provide the best environment for GROWTH! Pulpo Beard Oil uses oils that are very easily absorbed, probably one of the best products I’ve tried as far as this aspect. No matter the oils size either the classic “dime” size, to when I got wild and crazy and used more, nothing was left in my hands. Ingredients If you reference my Beard Oil Facts Sheet, I spent some time looking into the ingredients that Pulpo Beard Oil Uses. You will not be disappointed with the quality as well as usage of each product that is included in their oils. Argon Oil is probably one of the best oils from what I can find and has a high absorption rate. Presentation The Pulpo Beard Oil Company design has changed some over the last couple of years, but the iconic Pulpo Octopus is one of the most recognizable Bearding logos I have ever come across. I absolutely love the logo, it pops off the screen, and its something they should be extremely proud of. Its badass!! Final Thought - What can I say about Pulpo Beard Oils? I wish I had the words to say it all in. They simply blew my socks off. I have been wanting to try this company out for over 2 years. I’m extremely thankful that I had a opportunity to do so, and share it with you all. If your on a journey looking for a high quality oil and don’t have the time or energy to try oil after oil, let your curiosity follow the iconic octopus over to pulpobeardoils.com. Their hair follicle stimulating high quality argon oil, unique scents, and outstanding customer service will get your beard up to par, and ready to take on any competition. If you don’t believe me ask Nate “Chops” Johnson who placed #1 in Sideburns Freestyle at the 2017 World Beard and Mustache Championship in Austin Texas. In all we set the bar extremely high for our future reviews by giving Pulpo Beard oil 5 stars. - Enjoy - Coconilla/Pina Orange : Ingredients: Argon Oil: - Often called ‘liquid gold’, argan oil is an organic product extracted from the kernels of the argon tree, which is native to Morocco. It is extremely rich in beneficial nutrients including fatty acids and vitamin E. Its properties make it particularly beneficial for the hair and skin - Argan oil is proven to make hair softer, silkier and shinier. It is the ideal hair conditioner, and it can even help to treat split ends and tame frizzy hair. - Due to its ability to tame frizz and give hair shine, argan oil is also commonly used as a styling agent. It makes hair more manageable and adds a healthy, attractive shine to any hair style. - Other uses: - acne, protection and healing, stretch marks, foot/hand/nail treatment, lip moisturizer, dry skin conditions and anti-aging. Castor Oil: - Castor oil is derived from the seeds of the Ricinus communis that grow wild in wastelands across tropical regions. It is often grown as an ornamental garden plant in milder climates, and now cultivated on a large scale for biodiesel manufacture. - Castor oil has been around for a very long time, and has been widely used for medicinal purposes in its native lands spread across Africa, the Indian subcontinent and the Mediterranean basin. It is one of the first vegetable oils to be used for industrial purposes because of its high viscosity and lubricating property. In fact, the automotive lubricant company Castrol derives its name from castor oil. - According to North Carolina State University: - castor oil is detoxifying and helps to break up oils on the face that clog glands and pores. -castor oil can also help to cleanse the skin of dead skin cells that are clogging the sebaceous glands. Rubbing castor oil on your face helps to pull out impurities in the pores. - Organic Facts reports: - that castor oil contains a compound called undercylenic acid, which can help to disinfect the skin and even kill bacteria that cause skin conditions such as acne. - castor oil can be very moisturizing and can even soften dry skin and rough age spots. - Other Uses: - relieves muscle soreness, joint pain, treats fungal infections, Coconut (fragrance/oil): - Coconut oil is a powerful moisturizer that is beneficial to restoring dry or flaking skin. Unlike your average moisturizer that contains a lot of water and likely synthetic ingredients, coconut oil helps to strengthen skin tissue more deeply and eliminate dead skin cells while absorbing quickly into your skin. - Coconut oil also helps to delay the occurrence of wrinkles because it contains antioxidant Vitamin E, known to protect skin cells from damage over time. The Vitamin E found in coconut oil soothes eczema, sunburn and psoriasis, and its antiviral and anti- fungal benefits even help to treat bug bites. - Coconut oil contains 3 fatty acids: capric acid, lauric acid and caprylic acid. Each of these acids kill candida, a common cause of fungal infection on your skin. Vanilla (fragrance/oil): - Aphrodisiac -A systematic administration of vanilla essential oil to patients suffering from impotence, erectile dysfunction, frigidity, or loss of libido can relieve them of their problems. This oil stimulates the secretion of certain hormones like testosterone and estrogen which help bring about normal sexual behavior and promotes sexual arousal. -Sedative -The essential oil of vanilla soothes the body in innumerable ways. It soothes all types of inflammation and hyperactivity in the systems of the body, including the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, nervous and excretory systems. It reduces inflammation stemming from fever, as well as convulsions, anxiety, stress and hypersensitivity to allergens. Orange (fragrance/oil): - Orange is a staple aromatherapy oil for creating a bright, uplifting and invigorating ambiance. - Orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil is a time-tested remedy going back thousands of years. The people of China, India, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean have used orange for easing coughs and colds and for cleansing and purification rituals. They have also used it for improved digestion, skin problems, cleaning, lifting depression, and even for its aphrodisiac qualities! Other Uses: - anti-cancer, anti-fungal, immune boosting, anti-bacterial, promotes good digestion, skin cleansing and anti-aging, reduces blood pressure, and pain relieving Pineapple (fragrance/oil): - the presence of vitamin C (thus, the tartness) in pineapples enables this fruit to be used, internally as well as externally, as a cure for acne and other inflammatory skin conditions. Also, bromelain, the anti-inflammatory enzyme in this fruit, boosts the healing power of vitamin C - There are many skin benefits that include some of the following: solution for acne, anti- aging, exfoliation, helped prevents cracking, strengthen hair, hydration, prevents hair loss, anti-inflammation, and can help hair thicken - Other Uses: - Reduces inflammation in joints, has cancer preventing properties, boosts the body’s immune system, effective at treating colds and coughs, protects against constipation and IBS, and helps speed up the healing of cuts and wounds The Beardcaster and Pulpo Beard Oils have teamed up to give away a couple prize packs, all you need to do is click below to enter to win!!! Happy Monday Motivation! Welcome back to No More Excuses! The weekly podcast where I discuss a topic, and then throughout the week share questions, articles and examples based on the theme. Between a new client's tough conversations, a class reunion, and a text from a client who's going through a rough patch, it made me think about people's PERCEPTIONS. And, it's more like their "perception" of someone else's PERCEPTION. Perceptions SUCK! The word I thought of after I had recorded this is "assumption". They're usually NOT TRUE! Not validated. And they're holding you back. What are your perceptions keeping you from doing, saying, admitting, achieving? Last week I asked what it was that you were AVOIDING doing, saying or admitting. (click here to listen in if you haven't yet!) And this week, I want you to analyze WHY. If those things on your list are due to your PERCEPTIONS. Listen into this week and then email me what you have NOT done, are avoiding doing or saying or admitting due to YOUR PERCEPTION! I want to know! AND, if you can't figure it out... schedule a Strategy Session and let's figure it all out! Have a great week, I look forward to hearing from you! And please... SHARE THIS PODCAST! Cheers! Sandi

Raymond Whitsel is a good man with a big heart and a great beard! Beards Against Drugs is an event on Oct. 28 in Dayton Ohio that has been put together by Raymond, who also owns Synful Beard Oil and Balms. The event is to benefit Nova Behavioral Health and Brigid's Path, but charities that deal with drug and or substance abuse from newborns to adults. Drug abuse is something many of us have first hand experience with, either dealing with a loved one or going through their own personal issues. In less than six months, nearly 400 people in Montgomery County, Ohio, have died from an overdose. “We’re on a pace to have 800 people die this year due to overdose in our county,” Sheriff Phil Plummer told NBC News. “Per capita, we’re number one in the nation in overdose deaths.” The Columbus Dispatch reports the rate of neonatal abstinence syndrome increased to 159 per 10,000 live births in 2015, compared with 19 such hospitalizations for every 10,000 live births a decade earlier. The condition involves withdrawal from drug addiction by newborns born to mothers who used drugs while pregnant. It can cause breathing problems, seizures, tremors and excessive crying. I will be the emcee of this event and I hope you can come out and participate in what is going to be a fantastic event. There will be many familiar faces in attendance. Crystal Davis is one hell of a Whiskerina! We sat down at Worlds in Austin to talk about The Whiskerinas and what drove her to get into the “beard” scene over 2 decades ago. Being one of only two female presidents of a beard and mustache club in the United States I found myself in a real unique position. I dove into her history and her personal life and what drives her in her nursing and some funny stories of a job she had growing up. Crystal is an amazingly special person and when you meet her you know why! She is so friendly and inviting you can’t not become her friend!!! Come join my journey to learn all about Crystal Davis and why she is a driving force in a male dominated community! Happy MONDAY MOTIVATION! Welcome back and thank you for listening to the weekly podcast NO MORE EXCUSES! WOW! It's been a whirlwind of a month with the weather and for many people I have spoken with, including me! Mostly in a good way for business, but it has been crazy watching the Weather Channel, surfing Facebook and texting friends in all areas, including LA to check on them. With all of the crazy weather, and my client who got VERY busy, very FAST, it made me start thinking about being PREPARED. Was Houston prepared? Can you prepare for a wildfire? Florida seemed prepared. It actually seemed like waiting for that giraffe to be born waiting on Irma to hit. LOL! So, HOW are you, or ARE you prepared in business? I don't always mean preparing for the worst. But Benjamin Franklin did say, "By Failing to Prepare, you are Preparing to Fail!" And yep, it wasn't raining when Noah Built the Ark. So, why wait for something to happen (Or as I like to say), "for shit to go sideways", for you to get your ducks in a row? Listen into this week's podcast for more on what happens when you aren't prepared! Whether that's getting your processes in order, yes, doing an initial business plan, creating your marketing, or even having financial reserves, being prepared can and will help whether things go wrong OR too right, too fast! So, perhaps instead of repairing, you'll be PREpared! If you missed last week's podcast listen in first, then come back and see how you have to contribute to achieve, and how being prepared can help you do even more of both! This week, tell me: Where are you listening to this? (City/State/Country) A time when you WISH you had prepared - and what happened. And don't forget to SHARE THIS PODCAST!!!! If you can't figure out HOW to prepare, contact me to set up a FREE 30-min Coaching call and let's get you some quick ways to do so! Have a great week and if you are IN the areas that have suffered with this weather, I hope you are doing ok and were properly prepared! If so, tell us how! Cheers! Sandi
