Brad Demuzio is “The Middle-Aged Survivor.” Brad was a former trader who was supposed to be put in a white-collar prison. Instead, he was mixed with people incarcerated for crimes related to violence. However, looking back, he realized that it was for the best. While in federal prison, he learned about himself, people, and life. Today, Brad is making the most out of his second chance, teaching others the mental and physical skills he learned in prison to survive and thrive in life. Brad joins me today to share his experience in federal prison as well as the seven reasons everyone should go to one. He describes his first conversation and the friend he made, and shares the lessons he learned by interacting with other inmates. He explains why he thinks the prison system is a “warehousing” situation and why it promotes further unlawful behavior. He also underscores the wisdom of self-honesty and confession and highlights the value of listening with one's heart. “People often keep their problems as secrets, keeping it at bay so nobody knows about it. That's imprisoning. The best thing you can do to free your soul is to be honest with yourself.” - Brad Demuzio Today on Mastering Midlife: Brad's life before he went to prison and how he became The Middle-Aged Survivor How prison became a home and what he learned from his cellmate Our tendency to dehumanize people who are imprisoned How Brad overcame self-loathing with honesty Why people need to be honest with themselves The first year of Brad's imprisonment and how he started to enjoy his life there The insidiousness of large stretches of unproductive, idle time How the prison system is not geared towards rehabilitation and how it can worsen unlawful behavior Re-discovering God, peace, family, respect, and prosperity while imprisoned How Brad and his wife are rebuilding their relationship after his incarceration The role of money in maintaining a relationship Learning the value of listening with the heart in prison The power of confession Connect with Brad Demuzio: Brad Demuzio on Twitter Mastering Midlife...Together! Today I will talk about the process and path of a person moving from being a "normie" to using drugs and alcohol and becoming an addict. In this episode, I talk with Brad Jensen, the founder of Key Nutrition, and is in recovery. He comes to us today to talk about how fitness and health have positively impacted his sobriety. Brad also talks about his struggles with sobriety. He'll talk about his experience, his awareness of the three pillars to life, and how he can assist clients with his coaching to be more successful on the path of sobriety. Struggling with anxiety and ADD from age 12, he tried alcohol as a release and found drinking worked to relieve his stress. Additionally, he was overweight and was picked on by friends. By age 14, Brad jumped into reading books on health and fitness and was hooked on his health class at school. He remembers wanting to look like a bodybuilder on the cover of a magazine, then realizing that alcohol would not let him achieve his goal and quit drinking. At the end of his sophomore year, he was fit, but still had anxiety and was presented with opiates at a party. Even with a stable family situation and a good life, Brad fell into drugs and alcohol. "This wasn't supposed to happen to a guy like me," he says, recalling his stable family life. Brad continued bodybuilding, along with his heroin addiction, until he finally ended up in prison for an extended period. Listen in to find out how Brad denied his addiction for years, how he recovered from his long-term addiction in November of 2012, and the best thing his parents did for him during recovery. Brad also talks about how the loss of his grandfather affected his recovery from addiction. Share this podcast with a friend and leave us a review! Today we’re joined by Bradley LaBrie from househackingsuccess.com. I really enjoyed my chat with Brad, who started his real estate career in 2014 with a live-in flip that went horribly wrong. Because of construction and tenant issues (his tenant even got murdered!), Brad lost every penny on his first deal. Even though he had a rough start, he kept moving forward. We get into that crazy “murder-y” first deal and also discuss the benefits of doing a bad real estate deal and how it will pay you back ten-fold throughout your career. In this episode we cover: Everything about house hacking How Brad lost every penny on his first deal Listening to podcasts will never replicate the experience you gain from your first deal Low down payment options for getting into real estate Navigating Covid-19 Low interest rates make it the best time to get your first house hack Links from the show: Brad’s Book - HOUSE HACKING SUCCESS Brad’s INSTAGRAM House Hacking Success PODCAST You can find the transcript of this episode over HERE. Brad Ferris, RN worked at the bedside for many years. One of the things that frustrated Brad was the focus on the rhetoric of patient centric care, but working in a provider centric environment. Brad noticed that the way we speak to our patients is very transactional. Our interactions tend to lack warmth and empathy mostly due to the time constraints we've been placed under. Brad worked extensively in clinical research trials and came across artificial intelligence. He worked with artificial intelligence with the patients and saw some interesting results. He began to explore how artificial intelligence in text messaging could create a patient centric environment. Brad began writing scripts for the messaging that could interact with patients and help to create the beginning of a relationship. Not only that, by using AI, the messenger could answer an unlimited number of phone calls at the same time, negating the need to have a lot of staff putting patients on hold. Brad's overall big idea was to take the transactional conversations we've been having with patients and turn it into therapeutic conversations that are inviting and rewarding. Brad's innovative idea is being taken to marketplace to launch in clinics across the US to improve the conversations we are having with our patients. To learn more about Brad's company, check out his website at ClinicGrower.com Don't Miss Moments: --> How Brad discovered this idea of improving communication for our patients --> How Brad launched this business and what it took --> Why Brad thinks the way we talk to patients now has to change and how doing so will improve the bottom line of clinics across the US --> How AI can be used to change healthcare

Joining me on the show today is producer, talent manager, and international speaker Brad Lambert. Brad was born and raised in Pittsburgh. So it was no surprise when he started off his career working with The Steelers by helping their athletes in marketing and branding themselves. Passionate and self-driven for success, Brad moved to LA. This proved to be the highlight for his career as he worked with the legendary Robert Downey Jr and team, then, on to some of the biggest Hollywood brands, including Disney, Marvel, and Sony Pictures. Brad has also been a part of the marketing campaigns of two-hit movies; Avengers End Game and Spiderman: Far From Home. Brad in a Nutshell Brad is only motivated to work on things that he's passionate about. And although it's a straightforward approach, the path toward his inspirational success has been characterized by hard discipline and commitment. This is what led Brad into working in the Sports and Film industries. Business and Connection Building Brad started working with The Steelers while in senior high school. He did whatever he could to add value to the lives and business aspects of his clients (The Steelers athletes). This ranged from social media management, brand building, PR, and online marketing. His main goal through all this was to establish his clients' brands to ensure maximum exposure for entrepreneurial and career success. What motivated Brad at the time up to date, is the relationship and connection side of the business. He enjoyed getting to know the personal and social lives of the athletes he worked with. The relationship aspect, Brad advises, is the most important factor behind the success of anything. From business to careers, family, and friendships. Building genuine and trustworthy relationships is the key to a firm and unshakable foundation. Once you've established a great relationship, it will automatically spill over to your general reputation and track record. Everything else will fall into place without much effort. Progress: Moving to LA Having received a call and provided an opportunity to work in Hollywood. Brad jumped on board without any second thoughts. Because he didn't have any background in Film School. Brad had to work twice as hard as the other producers and marketers in Hollywood. But he had no problem with this since he's always loved new challenges and anything that required him to jump out of his comfort zone. Looking back at all of it now, Brad is grateful for the time he spent working to produce and market Hollywood films. Everything involved in the production aspects; research, coverage, creativity hacking, and teamwork, have all helped in shaping him to be the success he is today. It's this experience that shaped Brad's belief in the spirit of synergy and collaboration for inclusive success. Lifting each other up is the only way we all win. Adapting to the COVID Environment. Like everyone else's lifestyle, Brad's daily routine has massively been affected by the pandemic. But instead of complaining or sitting back to wait for things to change, Brad has decided to take control and do the things that he can to ensure progress. He's currently working on different projects to ensure easy continuity once this COVID storm has settled. Brad has also taken the opportunity to work on growing himself. He's been reading, watching Ted Talks, learning new skills, and speaking on podcasts. His main focus is to come out on the other side better than he currently is. Although habits are hard to break. Just like Brad, taking it one step at a time is the way to go. Focus on the good, and the most you can do with the resources you have. This is the way we all come out of the current crisis as winners. Quotes I did a lot of work for people which I never got paid for. Because it's never been about business for me. Adding value and building relationships was my aim at the time. - Brad about working with some of The Steelers athletes while in high school. All my success has come from building genuine relationships. Through these relationships, I've been able to build a foundation which I then leverage to transition into the money side of things. Life is all about who you know. And when opportunities are presented to you by these people, you have to jump on that train. Always challenge yourself. If things are beginning to get easy for you, then it's time to focus on a different niche to ensure growth and overall success. I personally never say no to any opportunity, even if it's something I'm not very familiar with. We're not together as we were in the past. If we change this and we all stick together and support each other, then the world will be a much better place. Brad Warner and Free Your Inner Guru host Laura Tucker talk about Letters to a Dead Friend About Zen and the dangers of pushing for a spiritual breakthrough before you are ready. Brad Warner is a Soto Zen priest, bass guitarist for the punk band Zero Defex and the author of Letters to a Dead Friend About Zen. In his most recent book, Brad Warner introduces us to Zen Buddhism through the perspective of letters he writes to his friend Marky, who has died of cancer. But he’s not just talking to Marky, he’s talking to you in the frank tone and language of telling it like it is, to a close friend on borrowed time. First, I loved this book and highly recommend it. Second, I've been saving this interview for just the right time. We recorded this interview three days after I sat for my interview for the just-released Guru: The Dark Side of Enlightenment podcast by Wondery. After speaking about Zen Buddhism and Letters to a Dead Friend About Zen, Brad and I get going about some of the issues in the spirituality and self help circles that have become important to me based on lived experience. It was reassuring to speak to a spiritual leader about why all things don't work for all people, and the dangers of inducing altered states in the pursuit of spiritual growth. Enjoy this big conversation with someone who doesn't shy away from going counter to the status quo. Conversation highlights: Why Brad started writing letters to his dead friend Marky. How Brad became a Zen monk, without setting off to be a monk. Is Zen Buddhism a religion, or a lifestyle? Sitting Zazen without a goal to be mindful or a better person. Re-thinking detachment: The Sanskrit word that’s usually translated as attachment has a double meaning of fuel. Laura on how meditation is like running: Even my worst run was better than the run I didn’t take. Brad on how Zen practice is like playing music, especially in front of a group. The dark side of meditation and the pitfalls that can happen when you extract mindfulness from the ethics and culture surrounding it. The down side of using drugs and altered states to push for spiritual experiences. Becoming Your Best | The Principles of Highly Successful Leaders
Everything that we do, every action we take, every effort we make, is literally leaving to others a legacy that we may not even be aware of. In today’s episode, Brad shares some incredible and amazing stories of the early explorers in Antarctica that through their actions made a difference that is visible even today, after 50-100 years later. Brad Borkan is the author of the book, "When Your Life Depends On It: Extreme Decision Making Lessons from the Antarctic". We’ve covered the first half of our 4 Core Principles and are finally ready to dive into the one we probably get the most excited to talk about. This week is all about Profit and it’s the one principle that is most commonly misunderstood. Unlike what we covered in the first two principles, Produce and Protect, Profit tends to confuse novice and experienced investors alike. Why exactly is that?Because we not only tend to carry a fundamentally biased opinion about assets but the jargon surrounding asset acquisition is often convoluted and confusing. In this episode of the Rise Up and Live Free Podcast, Brad and Jimmy will be explaining what it really takes to have your assets produce enough income to become financially free and any common misconceptions revolving around the process. They are leveling up your understanding from a standard balance sheet approach to the formulaic approach of the CashFlow Tactics framework. Whether you’re a real estate investor, entrepreneur, or business owner, it’s essential to discover the underlying problems and issues that are negatively impacting your business. Because, often, the “surface problem” is what we tend to focus on, without discovering that actual, deeper issue. To learn more about this, I recently talked with my friend Brad Costanzo, an entrepreneur, advisor, speaker, and real estate investor currently based in San Diego. Brad has built several successful businesses throughout his career. As an investor, he’s covered the whole gamut – wholesaling, rehabs, you name it. He also started his own digital publishing company and worked as a strategic marketing advisor. Now, he hosts “The Bacon Wrapped Business” podcast, heads up his consulting business (Costanzo Marketing), and serves as an advisor for entrepreneurs and business owners who want to overcome the stumbling blocks that are preventing them from reaching their true potential. Brad has some awesome advice for becoming a better business owner/entrepreneur, and how you can identify and capitalize on your strengths. Overall, he’s a great guy who has a lot of insight to offer – whether you’re starting a brand-new business or running into some challenges with your current business.
