What if the thing you enjoy more than anything in the world is also something people need more of in this world? Artist Mark Andreas started developing his passion to work creatively with wood before the age of 14. For Mark, nurturing his passion and doing what he loved mostly meant more time in nature, more peace, and more creativity. He's allowed his creativity to flow through many adjacent experiences and careers from being a boat builder, to metal fabricator, to art educator, art director and more. The thing for most people is finding a way to monetize and build a successful business model around their passion. As you listen to this episode, you will hear how Mark who is not only passionate about his wood working, found a way to connect what he loves most to how it benefits everyone else around as well. Key Artistic Approaches to Work and Life: You may have many roles, but you get to define how you see yourself. Sharing your passion with others can be unconventional in delivery. Value the skills and experience you create for others, and charge accordingly. “A lot of the art making process is to be able to express that excitement and exploration and discoveries that you make through the artistic process with people around.” -Mark Andreas Mark Andreas came to HAYVN wanting to learn what it would take to build a better business model. What we love about Mark is that he not only sees what he stands to gain being part of HAYVN, but how he can also be of value to the HAYVN community. Have you got a story to tell? Do you have a big message to share? Perhaps you should consider writing a book. Just like a great talk, a book is a fantastic way to bring that message or story alive for people and in a way that you can scale… as long as it's done in the right way. But there are many potential traps waiting to slow you down, or stop you from getting the book finished and out into the world, that's where this show can help. My guest AnnMarie Wyncoll is an author and founder of Begin a Book. Her desire to become an author was born when she had an epiphany about her life with a toilet brush in her hand. Unfortunately, her journey was fraught with obstacles to overcome, but she didn't give up and eventually she held her first book in her hands. Today, through her company Begin a Book, she makes the book creation process stress free and easy for other aspiring authors. In this show, she will be sharing how to avoid the pitfalls of publishing and she'll also be giving you some brilliant advice to make sure your book has the best chance of reaching the people who need to read it. Enjoy! What you'll discover: What a toilet brush moment is and what caused AnnMarie to have hers. What made her switch from being a part-time author to launching a book company. The people who AnnMarie thinks shouldn't write a book. The three big traps people can fall into on the book creation journey. The three things AnnMarie had wished she'd known before she wrote and published her first book. What's better - self-publishing or working with a publishing company. How you should tackle talking about real people. How you should handle quotes in books. The best ways to go about promoting your book once you have it. How AnnMarie uses speaking in her business. This episode began as a business-design coaching session with my client Tiffany Hawk but mutated into a wide-ranging discussion about visibility. As well as this, it's almost a summary of the main topics we've been covering on the podcast recently - including values-based positioning, thought leadership, and bold messaging. Tiffany runs a coaching and editing business, working with journalists, writers, and entrepreneurs who have a meaningful book inside them. However, her desire to work deeply with clients who have found her through referrals and blog traffic has meant that she has been struggling to keep up with demand. And then she earned the opportunity to work on a passion project which is very close to her heart and core values. As Tiffany says here, "The universe is saying that it's message time." In this episode, I chat to Joy Pearson, founder of Finch & Daisy Consulting LLC about understanding the difference between Sales and Profits. How many times have you seen a coach on Facebook promise to get you to your first 10k month? But what does that really mean? Is that 10k in sales? How much is that actually in profit? I chat to former corporate accountant-turned entrepreneur, Joy Pearson, about what is often hiding in the detail. You'll learn how to work out exactly what your profit is, instead of just your gross sales. But, before we get into that, the conversation took a really interesting turn when I learned that Joy frequently uses the site Upwork to find both short and long term clients for her consulting practice. I didn't even know that was a possibility. We discuss: What makes Upwork different from other sites like Fiverr and Freelancer. The kinds of income you could be making through Upwork. Life and business coaching and consultant work on Upwork Joy's tips for setting yourself up for success on the platform Pricing yourself correctly from the get-go How to win contracts and much more.
