Can a Muslim university be an Indian university? These are the first words in Dr Laurence Gautier's book Between Nation and ‘Community' - Muslim Universities & Indian Politics after Partition, in which she explores the history, nature and contribution of India's leading Muslim universities - Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI), two institutions which in her words acted, “as crucibles for competing conceptions of ‘Indian Muslimness' in post-independence India.” This MBM conversation is with researcher and author, Laurence Gautier where we discuss how these universities, their members and students played key roles in recognising the needs of a new India in terms of education, nation-building and social reform. We dive deeper into debates and contestation of ideas around the Indian Muslim identity that continues to evolve and the ways in which many figures, men and women, both worked towards making it more encompassing and holistic, despite the internal and external challenges. The conversation also sheds some light on caste-based politics, women's participation in universities, and the possible future roles of both these universities in the making of modern India. In this episode we use abbreviations - ‘AMU' for Aligarh Muslim University and ‘JMI' for Jamia Millia Islamia.About Dr Laurence Gautier:Laurence Gautier is a researcher at the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH), New Delhi. She completed her PhD in History at the University of Cambridge and taught at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat before joining CSH. Imagine being a medical professional on the front lines of not just war but diplomacy as well. Our guest, Dr. Andrew Hyatt, has lived this life and is here to share his incredible journey from an Army Family Medicine physician to a Regional Medical Officer for the Department of State, serving in over 50 countries. He provides a behind-the-scenes look at his deployment in Hungary during Operation Joint Endeavour, where his medical skills were tested in the midst of Europe's transformation in the mid-90s. His story provides a unique lens into the world of Military Medicine and its instrumental role in foreign service. Transitioning from combat boots to diplomatic corridors, his responsibilities expanded to providing primary care to U.S. diplomats and their families across the globe. As he navigates us through these roles, Andy highlights the unique challenges of practicing medicine in unstable regions and the protocols that ensure the safety of medical personnel. He provides an illuminating look into the protocols and challenges of coordinating care with the Military system and even evacuating patients when necessary—ever wondered how the State Department ensures the safety of its medical personnel in dangerous locations? Dr. Hyatt's firsthand accounts give you an insider's understanding of the intricate network of Diplomatic Security Service, Marine Security Guards, and host nation protection that all work in unison to guarantee safety. Join us for this riveting discussion that takes you on an enthralling adventure into the life of a physician in the Department of State. Chapters: (0:00:00) - Military Medicine and Transition to the Department of State (0:14:17) – Foreign Service Medical Care in the State Department (0:27:46) - Safety in Dangerous Locations Chapter Summaries: 0:00:00) - Military Medicine and Transition to the Department of State (14 Minutes) Dr Andrew Hyatt shares his experiences of deploying to Hungary with the 67th CSH to support Operation Joint Endeavour, and then his subsequent deployments around the globe. He talks about the opportunities available for foreign medical service with the State Department and how prior service in Military Medicine provides an excellent preparation experience. We also discuss the state of Europe in the mid-90s, particularly as Military Medicine was poised to help the country. (0:14:17) - Foreign Service Medical Care in the State Department (13 Minutes) Dr. Hyatt relates his experiences as a Regional Medical Officer (RMO) for the Department of State, providing primary care to U.S. diplomats, family members, and other personnel in over 50 countries. He describes the different types of health care providers employed by the Department of State, as well as the protocols for evacuating a patient for specialty care. He also discusses the challenges of coordinating care with the military system when necessary. (0:27:46) - Safety in Dangerous Locations (12 Minutes) Dr. Hyatt served as a supervising Regional Medical Officer in Ukraine, and his Family Medicine background helped him recognize and manage mental health issues. He shares the complexity of providing medical care in unstable and dangerous areas and how the Department of State ensures the safety of its medical personnel and their families. Challenges of providing medical care in these contexts include the Diplomatic Security Service, Marine Security Guards, and host nation protection, all playing a role in keeping personnel safe. Take Home Messages: Military Medicine often serves as excellent preparation for roles in the diplomatic field, offering experiences in diverse environments and emergency situations. As a Regional Medical Officer, one provides primary care to U.S. diplomats, their families, and other personnel in multiple countries. This position also involves coordinating care with the military system when necessary. Transitioning from Military Medicine to diplomatic medicine involves changing roles from active combat to providing healthcare in diplomatic corridors. However, both roles require resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to serving others. A Regional Medical Officer's role extends beyond primary care to include investigating relationships with local medical colleagues and assessing local facilities for the benefit of U.S. diplomats and their families. In places with limited local specialty care, the Regional Medical Officer may need to arrange for patient evacuation to a location with the necessary medical facilities, even back to the U.S if necessary. Working as a Regional Medical Officer involves decision-making about where a patient's needs will be best met, considering local capabilities, the urgency of the situation, and the patient's condition. Diplomatic medical personnel are often stationed in unstable regions. Their safety is ensured through coordination with the Diplomatic Security Service, Marine Security Guards, and host nation protection. The unique challenges of practicing medicine in unstable regions include coordinating with different security services and ensuring the safety of medical personnel and their families. Providing medical care in dangerous areas often involves working with a small, close-knit group, which can foster a strong sense of camaraderie. The experience can be rewarding, despite the potential risks. The interplay of medicine, military, and diplomacy provides unique opportunities and challenges. It's a testament to the adaptability and resilience of the medical field and those who choose to serve in these roles. This week we are talking once again with Kristal Kent. If you recall, Kristal has joined us on previous interviews discussing Fibromyalgia and again discussing prepping for surgery as a chronically ill person. We never really gave Kristal the credit she deserves for being such a fantastic advocate for all Veterans and those with Fibro or other life-long medical conditions. Allow me to properly introduce this dynamic woman! Kristal Kent is a disabled Army Veteran living with Fibromyalgia and served with the 256th Combat Support Hospital (256th CSH). Kristal worked with the Personnel (HR) department, then after September 11th, 2001, Kristal was re-assigned to the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) of the 256th CSH. After being medically discharged due to injuries, Kristal stayed on with her unit, the 256th CSH, and volunteered for 2 ½ years as the Family Readiness Group Leader, re-invigorating the program to become a supportive extension of the unit for the soldiers and their families. During her time as the FRG Leader, Kristal upstarted a Food Pantry to assist the Unit's service members struggling with food sustenance, coordinated a resource list of federal, state, and local support and assistance resource programs for soldiers and families, along with hosted “Readiness” educational weekend to ensure soldiers and Military Families were prepared for deployment. Kristal's Volunteerism as FRG Leader was officially recognized with a Commendation from the U.S. Department of the Army. Kristal also worked in Social Services for over 20 years in a variety of roles, from Adult Advocacy Coordinator, Care Coordinator, Assertive Community Treatment Specialist, Benefits Coordinator and Supported Employment Services, assisting individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Mental Health Conditions and Veterans alike. As a Veteran living with Fibromyalgia, Kristal identified the lack of supports, healthcare options and education for those living with Fibromyalgia, especially Veterans. To address the gap in healthcare and community supports, Kristal founded the initiatives, “The Fibromyalgia Pain Chronicles” and “Veteran Voices For Fibromyalgia,” to address the inequities in healthcare, Kristal engages in VA Policy Advocacy, Legislative Advocacy and Systems Advocacy to emote positive change for those living with Fibromyalgia. Kristal also provides support, educational resources, and advocates on behalf of those living with various Chronic Pain Conditions, Rare Diseases, PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Cardiac events, such as heart attacks and strokes, are also more common in women than men. While there are many factors that contribute to heart disease, there are also a number of things that women can do to protect themselves. These include maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, exercise, and knowing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Here are eleven tips for keeping your heart healthy as a woman. These tips are based on the latest scientific evidence and are designed to help you lower your risk of heart disease and live a healthier life. 1. Heart Disease is the Leading Cause of Death for Women in the United States: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. The American Heart Association (AHA) says that about 1 in every 4 female deaths is attributed to heart disease. A variety of lifestyle choices and risk factors can contribute to the development of heart disease. It is important to be aware of them and take steps to reduce your risk. 2. Women Often Experience Different Symptoms of Heart Disease Than Men: Though men and women both experience cardiovascular events, it has been found that women can experience different symptoms than men. Women may experience shortness of breath, fatigue, or pain in the upper back and neck, aside from chest pain. Women may also have a higher risk of developing atypical heart attack symptoms than men. If something doesn't seem quite right, it is important to seek medical attention right away. 3. There are Certain Lifestyle Choices That Can Help Keep Your Heart Healthy: Making certain lifestyle changes can help reduce your risk of heart disease. For example, it is important to maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly. Additionally, it is important to pay attention to your food choices and quit smoking. All of these measures can help reduce the risk for cardiovascular events. 4. Pay Attention to Your Family History: It is important to pay attention to your family history, as your risk for heart disease can be higher if there is a family history of heart disease. It is important to speak with your doctor about your family history and determine if you need to be tested for any genetic heart diseases. 5. Manage Your Mental Health: Mental health can also be an important factor when it comes to heart health. Studies have found that stress, depression, and anxiety can all increase the risk of cardiovascular events. Taking steps to manage your mental health, such as talking to a therapist or engaging in mindfulness practices, can help reduce this risk. 6. Be Physically Active: Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your heart health. It can help reduce your risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes. Aim to be physically active for 30 minutes five days a week. Activities such as walking, biking, and running are all good options. 7. Eat a Healthy Diet: Eating a healthy diet is an important part of maintaining a healthy heart. The AHA recommends following an eating plan that is high in fiber and low in saturated and trans fat. This includes eating more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. 8. Don't Smoke: Smoking can damage the cells in the coronary arteries, which can increase the risk of heart disease. If you smoke, it is important to quit. It can take time and there are a variety of resources available to help. 9. Get Your Cholesterol and Blood Pressure Checked Regularly: High cholesterol and high blood pressure can both make it more difficult for your heart to work properly, so it is important to get them checked regularly. Your doctor can help you decide how often these tests should be done. 10. Keep Diabetes Under Control: Diabetes can also increase the risk of heart disease. Keeping your diabetes under control can help keep your heart healthy. This means managing your blood sugar levels, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly. 11. Make Sure You're Getting Enough Sleep: Inadequate sleep can increase the risk of heart disease. Aim to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night and speak to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping. Advantage of Women's Health Screenings: Annual wellness physicals or women's health screenings can help detect certain medical issues early on, which can be beneficial for heart health. These screenings may include electrocardiograms (ECG) or other tests to check your heart health. Conclusion: Following the tips outlined above can help reduce your risk of heart disease and help keep your heart healthy as a woman. It is important to remember that each person is unique and it is important to speak with your doctor to understand what is best for your individual needs.

Katie revisits one of her most popular episodes with ChangeMaker, Deborah De Santis. Deborah is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), the country's largest community development financial institution devoted to housing solutions for those at risk of homelessness. On her watch, CSH has tripled its lending and support toward the creation of more than 300,000 permanent stable homes for folks struggling through the trauma of homelessness, lack of healthcare, and intergenerational poverty.
Central State Hospital (CSH) opened in 1870 in Petersburg, Va., and was the first state hospital in the United States exclusively for African Americans. Rather than integrate its two existing asylums, Virginia's governor signed legislation to house all “insane” Black people in a former Confederate hospital. The hospital remained segregated until 1968 when federal law required integration of health care facilities. Throughout its history, the underfunded hospital's staff, patients, and their families often did not receive the care or respect they deserved. Dr. Olivia Garland was one of the first directors of the hospital to make significant improvements to change that. On this episode, she joins us to talk about that journey. Olivia Garland, Ph.D., served as Director of CSH from 1985 to 1991. During her tenure, the facility regained its accreditation, secured funding to have all patient living areas air-conditioned, and established a residency program with Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. If I were to make a modern day version of the Kevin Costner-Whitney Houston movie “The Bodyguard,” it would be based on the life of Kenny Hamilton. His experience handling security for a 14-year old Justin Bieber, would give writers plenty of material to work with. In his current incarnation as managing partner at thet CSH group, Kenny focuses on artist development and music management. We talk about fan mania, what he learned from Bieber, how Jerry McGuire changed his life, cannabis and his stint with the Navy, Atlanta as a rap music breeding ground, the art of keeping safe at big festivals and the secret of his friendship with then-on-the-rise mega mogul Scooter Braun.
Boomer Living Tv - Podcast For Baby Boomers, Their Families & Professionals In Senior Living
Today's baby boomers want more. They don't want to sit around and wait for their next doctor's appointment or the mailman. They want a vibrant lifestyle that brings them together with other like-minded people who are actively living life to its fullest potential. Seniors have always been active, but they need a place where they feel safe being themselves and doing what they love without having to worry about driving or getting lost in unfamiliar territory. There are plenty of opportunities for new friendships through socialization and fun activities. Senior housing active living 55+ is community-centered services designed around wellness and independence so that you can enjoy every stage of your golden years.---------------Timestamps:[00:00]Pre-Intro dialogue from Michael Hartman[01:47]Introduction[02:26]I last had you on the show in October of 2020 (pre-COVID). And since then, how have we seen the senior housing markets changed?[04:17]Do you have a better or worse outlook on the future than you did back then?[06:02]What do you think, like on a scale of 1 to 10, how hopeful were you about the future of the sector then? And how hopeful are you now?[07:22]Has your perspective changed since October 2020 (pre-COVID), or has anything about your prediction become clearer?[11:36]How much of a recovery do you think senior housing assets will make in 2021? And what milestones may have to be pushed out in 2022?[14:31]Given all the changes to the workplace and the market from COVID everyone's jobs seem to be shifting. Has your day-to-day work at Capital Senior Housing changed since October?[16:56]I mentioned in the intro, you work on Capitol Senior Housing's Active Living Platform. Can you tell us more about what an Active Living Platform is and what demographics it caters to?[21:21]To the average person over 55 might still seem like a young age, maybe 10 years left in the workforce, for example. Why do you set the lower age bracket so low for these communities?[24:39]What considerations do you take into account when developing assets for this 55+ demographic group that you might not see in other senior living communities?[31:54]Do you still believe senior housing is still a good investment? Do you see this to be true even during COVID?[34:43]How does affordability come into play when deciding where to invest?[37:04]We, as an industry need to create housing that seniors can afford. The progressive easing of lockdown measures allowed coal miner MC Mining’s Uitkomst Colliery to return to steady-state production, while international coal prices trended positively during September and October, acting CEO Brenda Berlin said in a statement on the company’s results for the three months ended September 30. Uitkomst generated 137 284 t of run-of-mine (RoM) coal, a 1% improvement on the comparative quarter to end September 2019. The South African government declared a nationwide lockdown in March to prevent the spread of Covid-19, which resulted in the majority of Uitkomst’s customers suspending their operations, and this continues to affect the colliery’s sales order volumes. Uitkomst produces high-grade metallurgical, thermal and high-ash middlings coal and the colliery’s largest customer experienced operational challenges at its Newcastle furnaces during September, which limited volumes bought from Uitkomst. Coal sales were 25% lower year-on-year, with 20 667 t of saleable coal on hand at the end of the quarter. Limited activities continued at the company’s Makhado hard coking coal project, Vele semi-soft coking and thermal coal colliery and Greater Soutpansberg projects (GSP) following the Covid-19 lockdown. The pandemic resulted in a significant decline in API4 export thermal coal prices but these did start to recover at the end of the quarter although remaining 10% below the comparative quarter of 2019. Restructuring of the March 2017 Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) facility allowed for the drawdown of R40-million to advance the Makhado project, delaying the repayment of funds utilised under this facility until November 30. The issue of new equity to existing and new shareholders raised R15-million and satisfied the condition for the restructuring of the initial IDC facility. MC signed a share subscription agreement with Columbia Skies Holdings (CSH) for R9.93-million. Subsequent to the end of the quarter, CSH failed to provide funding in accordance with the terms of the agreement and the company reserves its rights in this regard. Composite debt/equity funding initiatives for the Makhado project continued during the quarter under review and are expected to be concluded in the fourth quarter or the first quarter of 2021. Available cash at quarter-end was $1.6-million and restricted cash was $30 000.

Coal miner MC Mining has concluded a subscription agreement with Columbia Skies Holdings (CSH), which is owned by black industrialist Pitso Madibo, for 7.8-million ordinary MC Mining shares, or a 4.8% stake. The CSH shares will be allotted in terms of the company’s ASX-approved capacity and will raise about R10-million, or $600 000, for MC Mining. MC Mining, which is also listed on the JSE and the Aim, plans to use the funds for further development of the Makhado hard coking coal project, in South Africa’s Limpopo province. Acting CEO Brenda Berlin explains that the company previously secured a R245-million, or $14.8-million, loan from the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa, which made out a critical component in the Makhado Phase 1 debt/equity funding structure. The company has been in discussions with various potential funders for the balance of the Phase 1 funding. Phase 1 will see the mining of the west pit of Makhado, with coal being processed at the company’s existing nearby Vele Colliery processing plant. Phase 1 includes modifications to the Vele plant, with about two-million tonnes a year of additional coal to be sent to Vele for processing. Following a nine-month construction period, Makhado will be the only significant hard coking coal mine in South Africa. Phase 2, which will follow in due course, will involve mining of the east and central pits at the project, as well as a Makhado processing plant and related infrastructure to produce four-million tonnes a year of run-of-mine coal, yielding between 1.6-million and 1.8-million tonnes of saleable product. The investment by CSH ensures that MC Mining has the necessary resources to complete the composite funding package by the end of this year. It will also provide working capital for the initial construction period planned during the first half of next year.

Interview with Jerry Xie, Executive Vice President of China Gold International Resources Corp. (TSX: CGG).China Gold is a big gold producer, with a secondary focus on Copper. The company orients itself around organic growth of its two large main gold and copper assets. It does have however very deep pockets if required for M&A. What we found particularly interesting was the companies approach to value. They can buy large-scale projects, but will not over pay. Now given the relatively cheap cost of the money available to them, paying a premium would not be out of the question, which could give them a competitive advantage.Founded in 2000, China Gold International has 2 main assets. Its main project is the CSH gold mine, one of China's largest open-pit gold mines. And the extremely large Development play, Jiama Copper Mine. CSH is located in Inner Mongolia, China, the principal product is gold doré bars with silver as a by-product.In terms of measured and indicated (M&I) Resources, we're looking at 262Mt, averaging 0.60g/t gold totaling 5Moz of gold at 0.28g/t cutoff gold grade, based on the most recent 2012 Feasibility Study. If fully-optimised, investors are looking at 60,000t per day of ore. The life of mine stands at 11-years (as of 2012), with an estimated LOM CAPEX of US$213M, and an impressive AISC of US$713/oz of gold.Over at Jiama Copper Gold Polymetallic Mine, in Central Tibet, China, Phase II expansion started commercial production on July 1, 2018. Jiama Mine’s Phase II consists of two series. Each series has a mineral processing capacity of 22,000t per day. The full design capacity of ore processing at Jiama Mine will increase to 50,000t per day. Total copper production in 2019 is expected to reach c. 132lbs, and the expected life of mine is 35-years, with gold and silver credits. According to China Gold's feasibility study, production is expected to grow to 176Mlbs of copper per year at full processing capacity. While many gold producers share prices were buoyed by rising gold prices during 2H/19, China Gold International saw a slow and steady fall, now standing at CAD$1.06. The market cap is a sizeable CA$420, with 396.41M shares outstanding.Xie claims the share price issue has been mainly related to marketing issues. A potential easy and cheap fix? He claims marketing on the TSX vs the HKEX is very different, and retail gold investors have either not been told the story effectively, or haven't been told it at all. So now what? Time for the company to step up its efforts.Big changes for investors to look out for in 2020 will be cost-cutting and significant development of Jiama, maybe into optimised copper-gold production? Communicating effectively with the North American market will be important too.The management team appears very competent. The assets are large, its is producing and sitting on a lot of cash, but the business strategy and marketing needs to be better understood by the market. China Gold needs to clearly communicate its strategy and focus to potential investors, and it needs to get the word out. This has the potential to be an exciting story: let's see how this develops, but this one story we are going to follow with great interest.Company page: http://www.chinagoldintl.comMake smarter investment decisions, subscribe here: https://www.cruxinvestor.comFor FREE unbiased investment information, follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook:https://twitter.com/cruxinvestorhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/crux-investor/https://www.facebook.com/cruxinvestorTake advantage, hear it here first: https://www.youtube.com/CRUXinvestor
