In this engaging session, host Brian Doyle and Alex explore the evolving role of the Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) within the MSP realm, particularly in the context of Technical Business Reviews (TBRs). Alex shares his wealth of experience in MSP practice, elucidating the journey from an engineering background to leading a client strategy team at Accellis. Through candid conversation, this episode delves into how vCIOs act as client advocates, focus on trust-building, and help demystify the technology landscape for businesses. The discussion navigates the nuanced responsibilities of vCIOs and the inherent need to balance technology recommendations with business goals. Alex emphasizes the importance of establishing trust, likening the vCIO role to being both advisor and partner to clients, especially in industries like legal services replete with type-A personalities. The conversation further highlights the significance of strategic preparation in client relationships, fostering clearer communication, and demystifying cybersecurity risks to empower informed business decisions. Join this insightful session to gain a deeper understanding of navigating complex client dynamics and enhancing MSP client engagement. Key Takeaways: vCIOs must prioritize trust and client advocacy, focusing on strategic guidance rather than sales. Building strong, trust-based relationships with clients is essential for long-term success in MSP engagements. Preparation and understanding client motivations are crucial, especially when dealing with type-A personalities like legal professionals. Regular, non-sales-focused TBRs can enhance client trust and reveal deeper business needs. vCIO roles are evolving to include more emphasis on cybersecurity awareness and client education. We cover so much in this episode, including thoughts on the future of this work with the continued rise of AI, the challenges of working in a service role (even a highly skilled one), the transition from in office to remote work, and how this role fits into the typical software company structure. Take our Listener Survey to receive copies of all 5 of our CSR Documents. In many ways, the core is the heart of any absorbent hygiene product. Whilst other portions of the article address consumer needs, it is the core that either succeeds or falls short in absorbing the insult. To improve performance, new ideas are continually being explored. For an explanation of the absorbent core and its recent developments, ‘Attached to Hygiene' host Jack Hughes welcomes Typhaine Raimbourg, Bostik's Technical Account Manager for the EMEA Region. Common cores in today's absorbent hygiene marketAfter introducing the traditional core's components and their impact on absorption, Jack and Typhaine explore more recent innovations. The closely related pre-compound and compound cores are common in Asia. Although they do not crack, early versions presented other challenges, especially reduced wicking speed. Manufacturers have had some success in solving these issues, in part through the use of adhesives. However, adoption of the compound core type is not generally seen beyond the region. The channel core, on the other hand, has wider appeal. First introduced in Europe, the design relies on adhesives to create the fluff/SAP-free channels from which the core gets its name. Its advantages include distribution of the insult and breathability supporting skin health. Specially formulated adhesives have evolved to enhance the channel core's function. Core testing for traditional and newer designsTraditional core performance is generally evaluated in five ways. However, not every hygiene company does all five. These include acquisition speed, distribution, rewet, wicking, and core cracking. Bostik adds a preconditioned core cracking test which simulates the effects of wear prior to insult. For compound and pre-compound cores, SAP loss can be an issue and is commonly assessed. In the channel core, dynamic peel is used to check integrity of the channels. This can be done wet and dry, and through 24-hour immersion. Bostik's advanced testing facilities are available to complete these and other valuable procedures. Happy Memorial Day! This week's podcast kicks off with some discussion of latest wait list movements and anticipation of more activity over the next couple of weeks. Graham then discussed the Application Overview Workshops that have now concluded and previewed Clear Admit's July webinar series, which will be focused on each MBA program's essays. Graham also noted a special webinar event on June 8, focused on entering the management consulting field (signups are here: https://bit.ly/caconsultingjune). Graham then highlighted two 'Real Humans Alumni' pieces; a Cornell / Johnson graduate working as a Technical Account Manager for Google and a Columbia MSFE graduate working as a Software Engineer (also at Google).  Finally, your hosts discussed the news of the new dean at Michigan / Ross. For the WireTaps portion of the show, Alex selected three ApplyWire entries to review: First up, is a candidate with outstanding numbers (3.9/740) who appears to have done well at work. Alex and Graham had some thoughts regarding their goals, and would like to know more about their activities outside of work. With that said, all the information on hand does look promising. The second candidate this week has an “unconventional" career trajectory and will need to expand on the “whys” behind those career decisions. Their numbers will raise concerns at the very best MBA programs, so they need to attend to that. Graham and Alex also wanted to know more about their goals in green tech. This week's final candidate has a 730 GMAT, and despite that high score, we debate whether it's worth a retake. For some candidates, this may well be the case. Their GPA is 'modest', and while it appears they have done well at work, their work experience is going to be a little 'over-represented'. We also have questions about their 'consulting in non-profit' goals. This episode was recorded in Cornwall, England and Paris, France. It was produced in 'always sunny' Philadelphia by Dennis Crowley.

Individuals who menstruate have full lives, and their product of choice has to keep up with the demands of their lifestyle. A pad that isn't sticking is the last thing they want to worry about. In this episode of ‘Attached to Hygiene', experts Jill Scheu, Chemist and Group Leader, and Luke Burkholder, Technical Account Manager, explore the number one issue that most menstrual health product users have with pads: stay-in-place performance. Consumer feedback is clear. About half of product users reported experiencing stay-in-place performance issues 50% of the time. If current methods are not meeting consumer expectations, then it's time for a different approach to how pads are being tested for the market.Stay-in-place performance is a complex issue in menstrual healthDisposable pads are just one of the many products that users consider 'essential' when it comes to managing their period. According to Jill, once they find something that works for them, they typically don't change brands—even if that article falls below their standards. It's also why manufacturers may be cautious about making changes to their products and methods. Producers are concerned about losing that loyalty. And so, the stay-in-place problem persists.Jill and Luke have been studying what pad users need from the attachment adhesive. One question they asked was why the industry standard—peel testing—wasn't accurately predicting user experience. Next, they considered what variables are involved in meeting the consumer's expectations. And lastly, how can the industry test for the stay-in-place performance users really want? Their answer was to create an entirely new procedure, Bostik's patent-pending Staybility™ test method.Outline of the Episode[05:55] Normalising the discussion of pads, underwear, and the menstrual cycle[08:57] The diversity of consumers and menstrual health products[10:32] User loyalty and the risk of changing products[15:40] Menstrual pads should meet expectations, with the fewest limits possible[20:10] Underwear fabrics, treatments, knits, and more can affect staying power[26:11] Valid testing starts with standard materials, then explores variables[32:00] The flexibility of Staybility™ test method for evaluating many factors[36:57] The entire pad's construction impacts its stay-in-place performance[40:14] How can a pad attachment adhesive meet consumer expectations?[42:47] Partnering with producers to better understand consumer experienceResourcesYou can find Luke Burkholder on LinkedIn or leave Jill or Luke a message through our email at hygiene@bostik.com.Want to see how your pad's performance stands up? In one way or another, today's disposable hygiene products benefit almost everyone … babies, parents, women, older adults, and more. Protecting the planet for future generations is a goal that an increasing number of companies and consumers are embracing. So, what can we as an industry do to help? For disposable hygiene manufacturers, reducing their carbon footprint takes many forms. Processes, machinery, operating procedures, safety, and cost are among the many factors that can't be overlooked. In Part 2 of this sustainability series, Seif Shaarawy, Bostik's Operations Director, and Luke Burkholder, Technical Account Manager at Bostik, discuss the challenges that come with sustainable production and the steps Bostik has taken toward creating and supporting more sustainable products and operations.Reducing Product Weight Helps to Cut Costs, Material Consumption, and WasteThe four big challenges producers face in reducing the weight of their product are resource management, waste management, societal improvements, and process efficiency. Seif and Luke discuss the importance of the disposable hygiene industry working together to address these challenges. Reducing weight—doing more with less—has been a trend for decades. But now, it's not just about cost and convenience; the very health of the planet is at stake. Substrates, adhesive add-on, and product design are all considered. An obvious target for weight reduction is the core. This can include changing the ratio of SAP to fluff, or using a compound/pre-compound core or channel core (learn more about channel core with our video). Luke concludes this episode by explaining how crucial a role the adhesive plays in enabling weight and waste reduction. Plant-based dairy continues to surge. The key motivators of dairy-free diets include health reasons (allergens, lactose intolerance, digestive discomfort), animal welfare, and environmental concerns. However, many omnivores are also attracted to dairy-free options because they want to try and experience something new. How are dairy-free producers reacting to the potential of this growing market? To answer this we're joined by the experts from Cargill once again, who give us their unique insight into the state of the current dairy-free market, and where they see the greatest potential for future NPD and growth. What are the challenges of replacing dairy in products, what products are capturing the most attention from consumers right now, and what will the space look like in the future? Join host Stefan Gates to find out. About our panel Matthias Bourdeau, Marketing Manager Texturizers, Cargill Starches, Sweeteners and Texturizers Europe   Working for the Nielsen Company and other research agencies, Matthias gained over 10 years of experience in consulting packaged food and beverage manufacturers across Europe and Africa on marketing their products in retail. Since joining Cargill’s Starches, Sweeteners and Specialties Business Marketing team three years ago, he supports new product launches and drives marketing campaigns, with a specific focus on dairy alternatives and meat alternatives. In 2010, Dries joined Cargill Refined Oils Europe as Technical Account Manager tagged to the British isles and the French/Belgian sales teams across all food categories and applications. Our guests Justin Lerma and Pathik Sharma join Brian and Mark this week to talk cost optimization techniques for internet projects. Justin and Pathik, both of the Professional Services Organization, work to help customers get the most out of GCP while maintaining their project budgets. They help customers take business success metrics and track them from a cost perspective, allowing the client to get an understanding of how much each business goal actually costs, rather than an aggregate of how much has been spent in total. This information is used to tailor GCP product usage and cost optimization to each client project. Pathik explains how the Recommender API can help with VM usage by suggesting shrinking or removing a VM altogether for cost savings. With thorough analysis, clients can also benefit from cost savings by paying for longterm usage of GCP products rather than month-to-month. For storage and analysis, BigQuery can offer better performance at a lower cost with partitioning and clustering. Throughout the episode, Justin and Pathik offer up other tips and tricks to help our listeners save money with GCP, as well as suggested reading materials, videos, and labs to get you started on your cost optimization adventure. Pathik Sharma Pathik Sharma is a Technical Account Manager with Google Cloud, focusing on proactively guiding enterprise customers to operate effectively and efficiently in the cloud. He loves helping customers to maximize their business value by optimizing their cloud spend.  Justin Lerma Justin Lerma is a Technical Account Manager with Google Cloud. Like Chris, Juan Gomez worked at Digital Domain on some of the company’s biggest and most innovative projects: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Maleficent and Tron: Legacy. But Juan has followed a different career path, first into the world of virtual reality at Method and on to Epic Games, where he’s spearheaded game-changing real-time virtual production for movies. This podcast offers a comprehensive overview of the ways Unreal Engine is turning the entire production process on its head and making it faster and easier to create VFX-heavy movies. Juan tells Chris how the company is able to offer tailor-made tools so directors and DoPs can use familiar interfaces and not get overwhelmed with technical aspects of VFX. He also reveals how the tech is pulling VFX artists away from workstations and onto the set, giving them god-like powers in the creative process. Virtual production is about to make the film industry more agile and transform the end result — and this podcast is an amazing head start. As the IT Nation show was winding down, I talked to some guys from Continuum. Joe Consolmagno is a Technical Account Manager for the Mid Atlantic Region. Raymond Vrabel is Director of Technical Account Management. Continuum was at IT Nation to talk to partners about how they integrate with a variety software programs. In addition, they introduce a variety of products. I asked Joe about the performance of Continuum worked during Hurricane Sandy’s visit to New York and New Jersey. The result was pretty impressive. The combination of Continuum and Datto made response to the disaster fast and easy. In addition to “Continuum Vault” for disaster recovery, the performance of the cloud-based NOC was excellent. Ray mentioned that during the disaster, about 3,000 virtual servers were spun up in the cloud – many of them in advance of the hurricane just to make sure that companies would have no downtime.
