Happy 1995! It's a new year, and time to make some resolutions ... which will almost immediately be broken. Angela wants to stop being so introspective (although on second thought, maybe not), Patty wants to stop being so suspicious, Danielle wants to wear makeup ... and Rickie wants a place to live, which puts everyone else's resolutions into perspective. Mr. Katimsky, recently having sworn off coffee, wants to help, but can't -- for reasons that will become SHOCKINGLY (for the 90s) clear.Breaking it down with me this week is Aaron Berman, author of the forthcoming book So Beautiful it Hurts: The Making of My So-Called Life. Especially now that Angela has her hands full trying to figure out what her relationship with Jordan has become. Meanwhile, Patty learns a thing or two about Kurt Vonnegut.Joining me to break it down is Aaron Berman, author of an upcoming book about My So-Called Life called So Beautiful it Hurts. Hope with God... with Andrew and Wendy Palau

My friend, listen today to the beautiful words of Psalm 118: I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done. These words are true of every person who has given their lives to Jesus—including you and me. Because of God's saving power, we will not die. Isn't that amazing? So Beautiful! And not only that, our lives have taken on a shared purpose: to tell the world what the Lord has done. You're not alone in this mission! We all have the same call, and we get to experience the joy of doing it together—just as we have the same Holy Spirit living in each of us. We're people who tell what the Lord has done. So, think with me for a minute today. Who will you tell next? radio.hopewithgod.com

Today's host, Eric A. Clayton, encountered today's guest's professional title before he met the man himself. Eric was told to chase down the person who held the “Chair of Ignatian Thought and Imagination” at Regis University—and he was not disappointed. Dr. Chris Pramuk is said chair. He's also an associate professor of religious studies. His interests focus on the intersection of faith, creativity and justice, and the conversation reflects this multitude. Chris and Eric jump from Thomas Merton to the musical tradition of the Black Catholic Church to Buddhism to Joni Mitchell. Woven throughout the conversation is a clear thread of Ignatian spirituality—and an invitation to each of us to discover the artist spirit alive within ourselves. Chris has written six books, including the two we discuss in this episode: Hope Sings, So Beautiful: Graced Encounters Across the Color Line and The Artist Alive: Explorations in Music, Art and Theology. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Charles Wright was born in Clarksdale Mississippi, where he grew up and was musically inclined by playing the guitar and singing in several doo-wop groups, including, The Twilighters, The Shield, and The Gallahads. Wright briefly worked as A&R Director for Del-Fi Records and was responsible for the hit recording of "Those Oldies But Goodies (Remind Me of You)" by Little Caesar and the Romans in 1961. By 1964, Wright formed his own band called Charles Wright & the Wright Sounds, which included John Raynford, and Daryl Dragon, the "Captain" of Captain & Tennille. Wright added more members to the group, and they became known as the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, and they played in several venues across Los Angeles. In the 1970s the band was best known for their world-renowned hit, "Express Yourself.” It was written by Wright and distributed by Warner Bros. TM, where it would hit #3 and #12 on the R&B and Pop charts, respectively. Another hit record under Wright's reign was Do Your Thing, which set the stage for a 1970s pornographic study of Boogie Nights. To date, Wright's songs have been covered by legendary artists around the globe. During the rise of Hip-Hop in the 1980s, many rap artists sampled chunks of funk from Wright's wax, including N.W.A. and their smash track, "Express Yourself" Brand Nubian Funk, Naughty By Nature, Gang Starr, and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs also gleaned inspiration from Wright's work. PLEASE WELCOME LEGENDARY SOUL/R&B/FUNK/ SINGER/SONGWRITER AND MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST CHARLES WRIGHT TO INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS …   WATCH FOR THE BRAND-NEW ALBUM BY CHARLES WRIGHT COMING SOON! AND PURCHASE THE RECENT RELEASE BY CHARLES WRIGHT ‘TAKING IT BACK' AT  Amazon.com   Also Up: From Where We've Come An Eventful Journey A BOOK By Charles Wright author "UP" contains historical moments, where the reader will experience inserts of the author's life long before he gained his status as a musical legend. And like his music, Wrights' story is a historical account of events that could only be told in his own personal and unique style. Wright's book is about a young boy and his family's trials and tribulations on a cotton plantation owned by a cruel sharecropper named Edward Miles, who was born with an unfair advantage, which he uses to dominate his subjects. At the critical age of eight, the boy's father demanded he pick no less than a hundred pounds a day, which according to the author, he has yet to be able to deliver. But any time he failed, he faced yet another one of his father's vicious whippings. His father was involved with the cruel hearted landowner, who owned four hundred acres of fertile land, which he and his family were obligated to work 40 acres of. This, of course, called for an oversized family, which at that time was a sharecropper's dream. The beatings continued practically on a daily basis and continued even after the family relocated to California due to the fact that his father had developed a habit of taking his personal frustrations out on the boy. During the late forties and early fifties, his parents decided to opt out of the cotton business for good, but soon realized Mr. Miles was not so willing to let go. They plotted a scheme and leaving the plantation, they moved into Clarksdale, but only to realize how relentless the old sharecropper actually was. So in an effort to subdue the family, Mr. Miles used his influence among other white southerners to deny the boy's father employment. Their saga continued due to one incident after another until finally, the child's mother sought help from her oldest daughter, who'd already moved out of state. The rest is history. His story takes too many twists and turns to explain in a brief synopsis, yet in the end it has a surprisingly pleasant way of resolving itself.   FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT CHARLES WRIGHT VISIT https://expressyourself.net/ Official website www.facebook.com/charleswrightmusic FACEBOOK www.youtube.com/user/charleswrightz1 YouTube https://open.spotify.com/artist/6fN2KrVTKQmaJPNWfIiIuh?si=6yf8nhONRXC296guwV128w&nd=1 Spotify   Discography CHARLES WRIGHT Singles Act   Title Release   Year Charlie Wright "Help Yourself" / "Number One" (1966) Charles Wright         "(I'm Living On) Borrowed Time" / "Keep Saying (You Don't Love Nobody)" (1966) Charles Wright         "Soul Train" / "Run Jody Run" (1972) Charles Wright         "You Gotta Know Whatcha Doin'" / "Here Comes the Sun" (1972) Charles Wright         "(Well I'm) Doin' What Cums Naturally" Part 1 / "(Well I'm) Doin' What Cums Naturally" Part 2 (1973) Charles Wright         "You Threw It All Away" / "The Weight Of Hate"          (1973) Charles Wright         "Is It Real?" / "Don't Rush Tomorrow" (1975) Charles Wright         "You Gotta Know Whatcha Doin" / "Here Comes The Sun" Happiness (2014) Just Fine (2020)   CHARLES WRIGHT Albums Act   Title   Year Charles Wright         Rhythm And Poetry (1972) Charles Wright         Doing What Comes Naturally (1973) Charles Wright         Ninety Day Cycle People (1974) Charles Wright         A Lil' Encouragement (1975) Charles Wright of The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band Going To The Party          (1997) Charles Wright         Music For The Times We Live In (2002) Charles Wright of The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band High Maintenance Woman (2003) Charles Wright of The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band with The Gallahads          My Love Affair With Doo-Wop (2004) Charles Wright         Finally Got It... The main topic of the night was cash vs cashless for punters/bands in relation to gigs and festivals.

Len is a true Renaissance man. Author of more than seventy books and 1500+ published sermons, Leonard Sweet's recent publications include groundbreaking textbooks on preaching (Giving Blood), evangelism (Nudge), ecclesiology (So Beautiful) and discipleship (I Am A Follower). The second volume in his Christmas trilogy with Lisa Samson is just out (St.As). Len and co-author Lisa Samson are working on volume four (for Dementia and Alzheimers patients) of their “Songs of Light” series. Len often appears on the “50 Most Influential Christians in America” listings, and in 2010 was selected by the top non-English Christian website as one of the “Top 10 Influential World Christians of 2010”. His “Napkin Scribbles” podcasts can be accessed on leonardsweet.com or Spotify. In this episode, Len unpacks what semiotics is, how we can better read the Bible by paying attention to story and symbolism, why CEO-style church leadership does not resonate with what Jesus said about leadership, and why the table should be the center of our ecclesiological rhythms.  Theology in the Raw Conference - Exiles in Babylon At the Theology in the Raw conference, we will be challenged to think like exiles about race, sexuality, gender, critical race theory, hell, transgender identities, climate change, creation care, American politics, and what it means to love your democratic or republican neighbor as yourself. Reflecting on Jn 20:19-23 and the corresponding version of the story in Lk 24:13-49, Fr. Eric speaks about how we might find salvation in the wounded and risen Christ. Topics include imaginative prayer, recognizing and finding consolation in the wounded and risen Christ, our intuitive and visceral reaction to the wounds of Christ. Fr. Eric speaks also about the capacity of beauty to bypass the mind and intellect, and the power of the wounded and risen Christ to stop us in our tracks and transform us to the core. As a key illustration, Fr. Eric refers to S02 Ep. 17 of the Abiding Together Podcast ("You are So Beautiful to Me"), particularly an example from Sr. Miriam James Heidland regarding the Easter Vigil liturgy.  Here's a link to the episode: https://www.abidingtogetherpodcast.com/podcastarchive/s09e17-you-are-so-beautiful-to-me. You Are Beautiful Though not much to write home about, a busy woman and mom can't overstate the opportunity for a quiet moment even if in a parking lot. This moment is topped as  an old familiar  Joe Coker song comes on :  You are So Beautiful. It has such a soothing tune and a precious message, so I settled in my seat and  listened through the quiet totally unexacting what God was preparing to do in my heart.

He is the resident DJ of the Miami club, LIV. His track "Derby" with Nima Nesta was on the Beatport Top Ten chart and has been supported by EDM DJs such as Tiësto, Avicii, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Third Party, Junior Sanchez, and Morgan Page. His remix of Parker Ighile's "So Beautiful" with Henrix was supported by Nicki Minaj. Mednas specializes in tech house, progressive house and electro house.Though clubs all over the world know him as Mednas, he wasn't always known by that name. He was born Mehdi Nassiri, facing the sea, in beautiful Casablanca, Morocco. Casablanca itself has always played an important role in popular culture. It became famous in the 1940s thanks to the Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman film of the same name. Throughout its history it had been the birthplace or home to many famous people - from film star Jean Reno to automobile designer Frank Stephenson to poet Abdallah Zrika.Along the way Nassiri was practically destined to make it onto that last - it's just that nobody involved really knew it at the time.Music had always been an important part of Nassiri's life, for as far back as he could remember. His mother spent time as a sound engineer for Moroccan Radio, among other jobs. He was even enrolled at an early age into a conservatory to learn the piano, but he didn't stay very long - something bigger awaited.● Soundcloud -click here● Beatport - click here● Spotify - click here

This episode was recorded during the peak of the pandemic, and it continues to be relevant if not more with today's world events unfolding. This conscious conversation is all about taking ownership of your life and your thoughts, the power we all have to shift our perspective, the importance of that especially around challenges in life, and how it can completely change the way we experience life - take out your notepads because you're going to want to make some notes! Our conversation reminds me of exactly why I wanted to start this podcast, just two girlfriends sharing a deep conversation about their life journey so far, and walking away from feeling uplifted and inspired. The funny thing is before this episode, Janith and I never met in person but of course, we connected soon after and had a 3 hours long soulful chat which thinking back, I wish we recorded for another episode :) Janith is a life coach and yoga teacher. Her vision is to empower others to uncover their light and live their most joyful, fulfilled, authentic, and purposeful lives. After graduating magna cum laude from Cornell University, Janith went on to excel in a career of business and fashion in New York and Hong Kong. Yet, despite a stimulating and rewarding career, Janith still felt a sense of unfulfillment. Once Janith finally uncovered her life purpose statement, “I am here to be my brightest self and to help others stand in their light,” that was the catalyst for her to begin her journey as a life coach in order to fully live into her purpose. You don't want to miss out on: How Janith quit her full-time job to become a yoga instructor and life coach She shares her life purpose statement which is SO BEAUTIFUL. What fears came up for her when she decided to quit her job Her journey searching for her sense of fulfilment A huge turning point while she was working at Lululemon How Lululemon became the impactful shift that she needed to feel aligned with the path she is on How her life purpose statement came to her in a meditation the moment she felt like she was finally stepping into her power The stages she went through mentally when COVID 19 first hit and when she realised she needed to shift her perspective. The stories in her head that were keeping her in a fearful state of mind and she goes through exactly how she shifts her perspective on each of them What stages she practises kept her sane through this pandemic How she keeps mindful of her ‘news' consumptions I share what I have observed in a lot of people around me and how they have allowed this pandemic to consume their thoughts and how it has affected them A recent practise she learnt from Yale's Science of Wellbeing course on ‘savouring' which amplifies her gratitude practice - this is one of the biggest takeaways for me! THREE of the most powerful lessons she has learnt so far…MUST LISTEN! “done is better than perfect” a mantra I have learnt from this conversation that I remind myself almost on a daily Janith's Book recommendation: Eckhart Tolle's The power of now. You can find here. Chris Gilbert is a Director of Special Projects at Harvard University - the oldest institution in America, and an institution where he has held a number of titles, and holds a vast amount of knowledge. So this week Katy Hamm sat down with Gilbert, amid his interest in making the historically gender-exclusive Final Clubs gender-inclusive, a move that has sparked a great bit of controversy among current students and alums. Gilbert digs into the motivations for this proposed move and how his experiences being in the Harvard community have informed him over nearly a decade.Gilbert also came up in the punk scenes of Chicago, is a straight-edge vegan, and is quite heavily tattooed - something you'd imagine would be a bigger issue at Harvard, but as you'll hear, there are a lot of misconceptions about Harvard. Gilbert is a fantastic person to hear discuss some of the history of Harvard, how he battles imposter syndrome, and a plethora of other enamoring topics throughout his conversation with Katy Hamm this week! Hope you enjoy!MUSIC NOTES:- This week we shared tunes from the new Creighola (AKA Amish Rage) album, "UYULALA," which came out on May 1 through its creator, Scott Nicklas.- If you like what you heard, please check out amishrage.bandcamp.com to snag a digital copy of the album and all of his other music. Paul Simon has always been attracted to new kinds of sounds. From his early band Simon & Garfunkel in the 1960s through solo albums like Graceland and Rhythm of the Saints in the '80s and '90s, up through his recent albums So Beautiful or So What and Stranger to Stranger, Simon has made music that does what the very best art can do: it resonates with our experience, re-frames it, and introduces new timbres and ideas.Recently, Simon’s curious mind has brought him into the world of contemporary classical music, mining the microtonal sound world of Harry Partch for his last record, and, just last month, collaborating with 10 composers and the ensemble yMusic on a set at the Eaux Claires music festival. On this episode of Meet the Composer – the final of Season Three – we hear Simon's perspective on his career and his most recent projects, as well as exclusive audio from the festival collaboration itself. Cerebellum Basics Your cerebellum is a separate part of your brain that sits under the occipital lobe.  It is responsible for unconscious motor functions, and is organized differently than the cerebrum.  It is packed tightly together in neat folds like an accordion.  And it has 3 lobes: Anterior (in the front) - it keeps the body visually "centered" and on balance, as well as moving the head or body to keep the eyes level with the horizon.  Alcoholism can cause damage to this area that results in a person being sober but still walking "drunk". Follcular-nodular (in the middle with nodules on it) - responsible for eye movement in response to motion.  It is responsible for correcting balance based on signals from the body rather than the eyes. Sitting with the beautiful AND the ugly in this world ... finding that which simultaneously transcends and holds, breathes in and breathes out, "beautiful vs. ugly" ... is our Practice. We are free of aversion and attraction even as we have our ordinary human aversions and attractions, pulling the weeds we can and watering the flowers ... even as we embrace each as just what they are. One finds Wholeness, Light, Beauty that is unconcerned by small human judgments of beauty and ugliness. We observe the terrible battle fields for what they are, even as we seek to make peace. We sit serenely in the sick room, even as we try to cure the disease. We transcend yet fully embrace a world of beauty and ugliness, even as we do what we can to mend the ugly and make it beautiful. Is it not the same when we find a certain ugliness amid the beautiful in Buddhism too? A naive student who demands ONLY beauty and goodness in the world ... even the Buddhist world ... one sidedly rejecting the sometimes distasteful or even criminal, may miss the Real Treasure that shines through all of it. That is so even as, in our Wisdom and Equanimity, we keep pulling the weeds we can and nurture the flowers, praise the good and punish the wrongdoer. All at Once, the Eye of Buddha holding all. Master Dogen quoted his Master's poem in Baike, On Plum Blossoms ... which flower on gnarled twisted branches in our garden each cold February ... The thorn-like, spike-branched Old Plum Tree Suddenly bursts forth, first with one or two blossoms, Then with three, four, five, and finally blossoms beyond count. ... Love That Album hits double digits, and I celebrate the start of 2012 by focusing on one of the great albums of 2011, Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful or So What”. Simon is in deep philosophical mode here (when isn’t he?), but unlike a couple of his most recent albums he has the melodies to match. This is a beautiful album using a small number of great musicians to convey Simon’s music in the best possible way. At the age of 70, Simon still has things to say and beautiful melodies in him to let out. This album is a career highlight. Any thoughts, disagreements or other comments? Provide feedback at rrrkitchen@yahoo.com.au. Download the show at iTunes (search for ”lovethatalbum”) or download / stream at http://lovethatalbum.blogspot.com
