Hollywood Unions (Rutgers UP, 2024) is a unique collection that tells the stories of the unions and guilds that have organized motion picture and television labor: IATSE, the DGA, SAG-AFTRA, and the WGA. The Hollywood unions represent a wide swath of the workers making media: from directors and stars to grips and makeup artists. People today know some of these organizations from their glitzy annual awards celebrations, but the unions' actual importance is in bargaining with the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on behalf of 331,000 workers in the motion picture and television industry. The Hollywood unions are not neutral institutions but rather have long histories of jurisdictional battles, competitions with rival unions, and industry-altering strikes. They have supported the industry's workers through the Great Depression, World War II, the McCarthy era, the collapse of the studio system, the rise of television, runaway production, fights for gender parity, the digital revolution, and a global pandemic. The history of these unions has contributed to making media work sustainable in the long term and helped shape the conditions and production cultures of Hollywood. Learn more about your ad choices. It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Andy Kroll, reporter at ProPublica, to discuss his recent reporting on Leonard Leo and the new Supreme Court judicial ethics code. Then, they're joined by actor Shaan Sharma, member of the SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee, to discuss the tentative agreement reached between the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel's raid of Al-Shifa hospital, the pro- and anti-war movements regarding Israel, a government shutdown, the UAW's contract, Starbucks' labor action, New York politics, and Paul Pelosi's attacker, also checking in on the large pro-war rally in D.C. that played host to Van Jones, myriad US Congresspeople, and noted antisemitic Pastor John Hagee. Andy Kroll then joins, first running through some quick background on Leonard Leo, and how he came to completely reshape the Federalist Society into perhaps the most influential legal institution in US politics. Kroll begins with the 1992 Conservative Supreme Court affirming Roe v. Wade in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which ignited an organized spark in the Republican party and saw the founding of the Federalist Society some nine years later, serving to funnel conservative lawyers into judgeships, state offices, and the Supreme Court – provided they completely adhere to the society's strict blueprint for jurisprudence. After parsing through the central strategies of the Society (centered around networking), and how the Democrats were completely blindsided by the Society's rise to judicial dominance in the 21st Century, Kroll, Sam, and Emma dive into Leonard Leo's role as Supreme Court Den Mother, doting on the conservative justices to keep them happy and in line with the Society, as has come to light recently. Wrapping up, they look to the weak response from the Senate Judicial Committee to the myriad SCOTUS corruption charges, and whether the Court's new ethics code will completely sweep this story under the rug. Shaan Sharma then walks Sam and Emma through the structure of SAG-AFTRA's national board, and his role in the organization, before touching on the central elements of the negotiation – namely bringing wages into line with cost-of-living, getting actors residuals from streaming, and appropriate AI protections. Next, Sharma explores where he felt the contract proposal falls short, including health care, self-tape and audition protections, and wage growth, before he, Sam, and Emma wrap up the interview with an assessment of the AI policy, the SAG-AFTRA leadership, and the pressures that brought the end of the strike. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss Peter Beinart and Michael A. Cohen's conversation on the 9/11 comparison with Israel's assault on Gaza, watch the families of Israeli hostages march from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in protest of Netanyahu's war in Gaza, and parse through the ongoing Daily Wire cat fight between Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens. Wrapping up, the MR Crew parses through the continuing drama surrounding Kevin McCarthy, as audio is released of his harrowing assault on Tim Burchett and Newsmax nearly leaks allegations against him from Nancy Mace, plus, your IMs! After a grueling 118-day strike, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have reached a tentative three-year deal, marking the end of the longest strike in SAG-AFTRA's history. The agreement, described as “historic” includes significant wage and bonus increases, with a crucial focus on addressing concerns related to artificial intelligence (AI). Studio heads, including Ted Sarandos and Bob Iger, offered substantial protections against AI, paving the way for Hollywood to resume full-scale production within three weeks. While this marks a significant step forward, Hollywood still faces labour challenges, with VFX workers unionising at Disney and Marvel, and a potential strike looming in the video game industry. The deal signifies a hard-fought victory for over 160,000 SAG-AFTRA members and brings an end to a bitter labour dispute that began in May.

From eminent stars taking a stand to the economic repercussions faced by local businesses, this article provides a concise breakdown of the ongoing upheaval in Los Angeles. May 2023 marked a significant turning point in Hollywood as the Writers Guild of America, representing over 11,500 screenwriters, commenced a strike due to a long-standing labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). This strike has notably disrupted television and film production in the United States, rivaling the pandemic's impact. An intriguing twist occurred when the writers' strike dovetailed with a simultaneous strike by SAG-AFTRA actors, amplifying the broader labor issue within Hollywood. (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers,簡稱AMPTP)展開了一場罷工。 The repercussions of these strikes are reverberating beyond US borders. The delay of the Emmys is a mere indication of the larger economic turbulence the strikes have ushered in. Local businesses, ranging from restaurants to dry cleaners, are bracing themselves for an inevitable downturn. The primary players in this conflict are the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The core concern for WGA is the compensation from streaming networks, specifically residuals, which have significantly eroded writers' incomes over the last decade. The strikes have already disrupted iconic shows like The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live, which rely heavily on writers' creativity. These actions have also cast uncertainty over major events like the Emmys and autumn film festivals. The strikes aren't confined to the US; the UK's Equity, the actors' union, stands in solidarity with the cause. Major US productions in the UK are stalled, encompassing movies like Deadpool 3 and TV shows like Andor. The collective voice of A-list actors like Meryl Streep and George Clooney underscores the significance of these strikes as a transformative juncture in the industry's history. Reference article: https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/culture/culture-news/a44687421/hollywood-strikes-explainer/

The Writers Guild of America strike began on May 2, and as of yesterday, the union has reached a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).  But, this doesn't necessarily mean your favorite shows are coming back. Today, we're re-airing our episode from last month about how the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes are hitting Nashville. It's easy to think of these strikes as a Hollywood problem, but Nashville's creatives are also feeling the impact. With no writers and no actors, scripted television and most of the film industry came to a complete halt. With the writers headed back to work, there are a lot of questions about what this will mean for television, film, and streaming going forward. Without actors, there is still no reason to expect that production will resume any time soon. When we think about TV and film, we often direct our attention to LA, NYC, and maybe Atlanta, Georgia. But what about Nashville? Music videos, corporate shoots, and even narrative work happens all over our city, and the strikes are happening in our own backyard. What do Nashville creatives want to see? This episode was produced by Elizabeth Burton and Laura Boach. Special thanks to Peter Kurland and Richard Van Syckle. Guests Carla Christina Contreras, president of Nashville SAG-AFTRA local and member of the SAG-AFTRA national negotiating committee Rod Blackhurst, local WGA member Darryl Wilson, president of IATSE Local 492 Mike Montgomery, former president of Nashville SAG-AFTRA local Bob Raines, executive director of the Tennessee Entertainment Commission Julie Lighty, production coordinator and supervisor

It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Dr. Jiaying Zhao, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia, to discuss her recent research into the benefits of guaranteed cash transfers, and how they can help reduce homelessness. Then, they're joined by actor Shaan Sharma, member of the SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee, to discuss the recent updates on the strike and the ongoing negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). First, they run through updates on Gabe Amo's victory in Rhode Island, Saudi Arabia's oil production cut, Trump's Mar-a-Lago case, the Cop City RICO indictment, Russian bombing in Ukraine, COVID hospitalizations, captive audience meetings and AirBnbs in New York, and Google's anti-monopoly trials, before parsing through Atlanta's role as the testing ground for building massive Police day camps despite active local pushback – and how to criminalize those that won't stop. Dr. Jiaying Zhao then outlines her study into the massive impact of direct cash transfers on the lives of homeless people and on the government's pockets, with only $7,500 drastically reducing both the extent of time spent homeless and the net spending on aid. Then, Shaan Sharma updates us on SAG-AFTRA's negotiations with Hollywood studios, why the studios refuse to negotiate in good faith for anyone but Wall Street and the shareholders, and the complete corruption of corporate America. And in the Fun Half: Joe Rogan tells Oliver Anthony you can't just tax the rich, Jeannine Pirro thinks hurricanes started in the 1400s, Elon Musk melts down about Jews ruining his business, and Saul roasts Sam for a second consecutive day and offers his opinions on Bugattis. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Warner Bros has officially delayed Dune: Part 2 until next year, scheduled to release March 15, 2024. The move is unsurprising, given the ongoing, concurrent Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but no less disappointing for Dune diehards. The hotly anticipated sequel took Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's original release date, shifting that film back by a month. The animated feature The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim was also delayed about 8 months moving from April 12, 2024 to Dec. 13, 2024. It's not all doom and gloom for Dune fans though, as director Denis Villenueve teased a possible third installment for the series. In more disappointing news (and the cause of the aforementioned delays), just 2 weeks removed from what seemed to be the most promising progress made since the Writers strike began, negotiations between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), have reached a complete standstill. Both parties have publicly slammed each other in the last week, with sources from each indicating there are currently no discussions for a return to the negotiating table. Marvel Studios has released a trailer for “Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline” a new coffee table book that serves as an official guide to the MCU timeline. The 344 page book contains exclusive infographics, timelines, and stills that aims to be the go-to resource for fans and filmmakers who are hoping to connect the dots and truly understand the web of interconnections between the different Marvel Studios movies and streaming series. It will deconstruct every moment” from the 15-year history of the MCU and covers everything from the first film with 2008's “Iron Man,” to the upcoming second season of the Disney+ series “Loki” and is available for pre-order, releasing on October 24th. Barbie has officially passed the Super Mario Brothers Movie to become the highest grossing film in North America of 2023. Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty will officially begin its 7th season on Sunday, October 15th. The new season will also be available to stream on Max and Hulu in its entirety sometime in 2024. Gran Turismo took the number one spot at the domestic box office this weekend with a muted $17.3 million dollar outing. Blue Beetle took third place behind Barbie with a $12.8 million dollar take domestically, a drop of nearly 50%. Arleen Sorkin, the original voice of Harley Quinn from Batman: The Animated Series, has passed away at the age of 67. Disney+ is not moving forward with The Spiderwick Chronicles, its live action series adaptation of the popular children's fantasy books. The 8 episode series from Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television has been completed and is currently being shopped by Paramount to other potential buyers. Disney+ has also decided not to stream Nautilus, a big budget prequel to Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Disney says that it is working to find a new home for Nautilus. “Killers of the Flower Moon” will hit theaters October 20, with a streaming debut on Apple TV Plus to follow at an undetermined date. On this day in legal history, August 23 1927, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in the United States. They were Italian-born American anarchists who were controversially convicted of murdering a guard and a paymaster during an armed robbery in 1920. Their trial and execution sparked protests and debates about the justice system, immigration, and political radicalism. Many were critical of the trial and its outcome, including Felix Frankfurter, who was at the time a professor at Harvard Law School and would go on to be appointed to the Supreme Court by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The trial of the Italian anarchists continues to be a subject of interest and debate, particularly regarding their guilt in armed robbery and murder. They were accused of killing two men during a robbery at a shoe factory, but there was no solid evidence linking them to the crime. Their arrest and trial occurred during a period of intense social unrest in the U.S., known as the "Red Scare," marked by anti-immigrant sentiment and fear of radical ideologies. The trial was heavily influenced by their anarchist beliefs and immigrant background, leading to their conviction on July 14, 1921. The proceedings were considered unfair, as the trial judge had sole authority over motions for a new trial and appellate rules limited review of evidence. Sacco and Vanzetti were executed on August 23, 1927, in a case that has since inspired various works of art and literature. The story serves as a reminder of the importance of a fair legal system and the dangers of prejudice and fear in the administration of justice. The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti - The AtlanticEdward Blum's anti-affirmative action group, The American Alliance for Equal Rights, has sued law firms Perkins Coie and Morrison Foerster, alleging that their diversity fellowships are unlawful following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn affirmative action. The suit claims that the firms' fellowships, aimed at hiring diverse candidates, are discriminatory. Perkins Coie has responded by affirming its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and has vowed to defend the lawsuit vigorously. Morrison Foerster has not commented on the matter. The lawsuit follows the Supreme Court's ruling against Harvard and the University of North Carolina, in which affirmative action in admissions was overturned. Since then, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) hiring initiatives have faced increased scrutiny, with warnings from Republican lawmakers that such initiatives may be illegal. Perkins Coie offers diversity fellowships for students from underrepresented backgrounds, including a $15,000 academic scholarship for first-year students and a $25,000 scholarship for second-year students. Morrison Foerster has been sponsoring legal diversity scholarship programs since the 1980s, providing $25,000 to students over two years. Similar programs are common in many large and mid-sized law firms. The American Bar Association is also reviewing the Supreme Court decision to ensure compliance while promoting diversity within the legal profession. The lawsuits against Perkins Coie and Morrison Foerster were filed in federal district courts in Dallas and Miami, respectively. This is part of Blum's continuing campaign against affirmative action, which recently included a lawsuit against a venture capital fund for financing startups run by Black women. The legal actions highlight the ongoing tension and debate surrounding affirmative action and diversity initiatives in the professional world.Perkins Coie, Morrison Foerster Sued Over DEI Programs (2)The former head of JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s precious-metals desk, Michael Nowak, and top trader Gregg Smith were sentenced to prison for spoofing, fraud, and attempted market manipulation. Nowak received a one-year and one-day term, while Smith was given two years, marking the harshest sentence in recent government efforts against questionable trading practices. The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense, stating that it undermined market integrity. The sentences were meant to send a message that market manipulation will be punished. Both men plan to appeal their convictions. The case is part of a broader crackdown on illegal spoofing, where traders place and quickly cancel bogus orders to manipulate prices. Smith and Nowak used this technique to manipulate gold and silver prices from 2008 to 2016. Convictions in this case follow a series of wins by prosecutors against some of Wall Street's biggest banks. In 2020, JPMorgan agreed to pay $920 million to settle related allegations, the largest fine for market manipulation since the 2008 financial crisis.Witnesses, including three former team members who pleaded guilty, testified against Nowak and Smith, describing how they placed huge orders they never intended to execute. Spoofing became illegal after the passage of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, and the JPMorgan case highlights the ongoing efforts by federal authorities to ensure compliance and maintain trust in the financial markets.JPMorgan's ‘Most Prolific Spoofer' Gets Two Years in Prison (1)The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a request from West Virginia and 26 other Republican attorneys general to challenge the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB) funding mechanism at oral arguments this fall. The states had filed a petition in July, arguing their expertise in consumer protection issues gave them insight into how an unbounded CFPB could damage consumer-financial markets and impair states' abilities to regulate those markets. The Supreme Court denied the motion without explanation, in line with its rare granting of such motions. The court is set to hear arguments on October 3 in the CFPB's appeal to a ruling that declared the agency's funding unconstitutional.Supreme Court Blocks West Virginia Bid to Challenge CFPB FundingMeta Platforms, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has been accused of breaking European data privacy rules in Norway, according to the country's data regulator, Datatilsynet. The regulator has imposed a fine of one million crowns ($94,145) per day since August 14 for breaching users' privacy by harvesting data and using it for targeted advertising. Meta is seeking a temporary injunction against the order, arguing that it had committed to ask for user consent and that the regulator's process was unnecessary and rushed. The WGA, joined by members of the Screen Actors Guild, had walked off the job on May 2, halting productions across Hollywood and costing the California economy billions of dollars. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) changed its offer to include new details about compensation, minimum staffing, residual payments, and curbs on artificial intelligence. The latest proposal includes a compounded 13% pay increase over a three-year contract and stipulates that AI-generated content will not be considered "literary material." Streaming platforms also offered to provide the WGA with confidential quarterly reports on the total number of hours viewed for each made-for-streaming show.AMPTP President Carol Lombardini expressed commitment to ending the strike and hopefulness that the WGA would work toward resolution. However, the WGA met with executives from Walt Disney, Warner Bros, NBCUniversal Studio Group, and Netflix to discuss the new offer and stated that the meeting was an attempt to make them "cave."The union explained why the offer fell short and "failed to sufficiently protect writers from the existential threats that caused us to strike in the first place." Bullseye with Jesse Thorn

Boots Riley is known nowadays for his work as a writer, but he's been making waves as an artist for years. In his early 20s, he was the frontman and founder of the Coup, a fiercely political hip-hop group from the Bay Area. But in recent years, Boots has made his way over to film-making. In 2018, he wrote and directed his first ever feature film: Sorry To Bother You. If you saw it, you know it is hilarious and scary and insightful and generally very bonkers. And then Boots had another idea. His new show I'm A Virgo takes the word bonkers to new heights, literally. It's a story about a 13-ft-tall giant, a Black teenager living in the Bay Area. But the show's not about his super powers. It's about how he sees himself, and the little personal things about him — like his star sign. I'm a Virgo is a great show, but this isn't an interview about I'm a Virgo. Boots Riley is a writer. And his union, the Writers Guild of America, has been on strike since May. On Bullseye, we'll talk about what is at stake in the dispute between the WGA and the studio heads - represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Plus, we'll get into his early career as a rapper and his roots in activism.

In this Episode I discuss The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if they don't reach a deal with major entertainment company studios by June 30, 2023. Nearly 98% of voting members were in favor of the strike, SAG-AFTRA said. However, SAG-AFTRA cannot go on strike before their contract expires on June 30, 2023, and a membership vote authorizes a strike, which is then declared by the National Board or its designee¹. On July 14, 2023, the American actors' union SAG-AFTRA went on strike over an ongoing labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). It has coincided with a Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike in a series of broader Hollywood labor disputes³. The SAG-AFTRA strike specifically concerns any work performed under the union's TV and theatrical contracts, meaning actors can't work on any major feature films or scripted television—whether on network, cable or streaming services—or promote any of their film or television projects that fall under those contracts **Host: --Contact/ Follow Marcos on IG/Fb/IMdb/Twitter/TikTok: @MarcosLuis everything and www.MarcosLuis.com —Show: OneMicNite Podcast with Marcos Luis *Contact/Follow: IG/Fb/Twitter/Tumbler/LinkedIn/Youtube/TikTok @OneMicNite www.OneMicnite.com - - ** Listen to Audio Podcast: Available wherever you download , all digital platforms.. ** Support Us Now: http:www.Anchor.fm/onemicnitetalk ---Follow/Contact -- The Show: All Social Media Fb/Ig/Twitter/Tumbler/TikTok/ *** watch the episodes on Youtube @OneMicNite & www.OneMicNite.com Direct Support of the Podcast: CashApp: MarcosLuis1 VenMo: Marcos-Luis-1 PayPayl /Zelle Pay: MarcosStarActor@gmail.com Please Visit: The AzulesEn Online store to find Products that Compliment your Lifestyle: OneMicNite Signature Merchandise Available! The Authors Guild of America strike in 2023 is an ongoing labour dispute between the Writers Guild of America (WGA), a labour union that represents 11,500 authors, and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which started at 12:01 a.m. PDT on May 2, 2023. The primary points of contention in the strike are the residuals from streaming media, the size and length of authors' rooms, and the use of artificial intelligence in the writing process. The WGA asserts that AMPTP's portion of these residuals has significantly reduced the average wages of writers compared to a decade ago. Additionally, writers prefer that artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, be utilized to support rather than replace them in script development or research. In episode 101 of the #IPSERIES podcast, I invited Larry Zerner, a US Entertainment Lawyer, to discuss the ongoing WGA Strike, its effect on the film industry, and many more. Get the latest entertainment news! SAG-AFTRA, the union representing over 160,000 professionals in the entertainment industry, has unanimously recommended its members authorize a potential strike. This decision comes ahead of negotiations for a new film and TV contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), set to begin on June 7. Although the vote doesn't guarantee a strike, it empowers the National Board to call for one if necessary. This move aims to give the union greater leverage in the negotiations. In other news, Disney World bids farewell to its immersive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience, which will conclude in late September 2023 after a year of satisfying guests. On a brighter note, Futurama fans will be thrilled to know that Season 11 is making a comeback on Hulu this summer. Mark your calendars for July 24, as the one-episode premiere will kick off the season, followed by nine more episodes. Join Fry and the crew as they return after a decade-long hiatus. David reveals what's at stake, avoids heroic hyperbole; declines to craft narratives; confides who has the real power in Hollywood; explains the gutting of the American middle-class; possesses an admirable reluctance to participate in childish banter; and expresses gratitude for the extraordinary support the WGA is getting from its sister Hollywood unions. It's been over a week now since the Writers Guild of America (WGA), the union that represents tens of thousands of writers in television and film, went on strike to protest wages and lack of transparency from the studios that they work with. In the WGA's negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the association representing studios, much has been made of the lack of revenue sharing as a result of the advent of streaming, with writers genuinely not knowing how much money is made from the shows they work on once they hit the streamers that many consumers use today. So how is revenue attributed with streamers, particularly given the vast amount of material they release year-to-year? How are budgets being set nowadays as opposed to previously? What kind of push-and-pull is there for studio-affiliate producers to work with those they oversee and those who oversee them? Today on AirTalk's weekly television segment, we try and breakdown what we know about the AMPTP's stance on the current WGA negotiations with Bull's Eye Entertainment founder Tom Nunan and David Offenberg, associate professor of entertainment finance Loyola Marymount University. We reached out to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for comment but they declined to join.

As Alex Press writes in Jacobin, “The WGA (West and East) called the strike just before midnight on May 1, with its leadership unanimously voting for a work stoppage after six weeks of negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) over a new three-year contract that covers some 11,500 film and television writers. Announcing its decision, the union said that the bargaining table responses of the AMPTP, which consists of Amazon, Apple, Discovery-Warner, Disney, NBC Universal, Netflix, Paramount, and Sony, had ‘been wholly insufficient given the existential crisis writers are facing.'” Even though overall production budgets have risen in the past decade, writer pay has declined, and the rise of streaming services has translated to lower residuals for writers, shorter paid work periods and more precarious employment, etc., with studios even threatening to replace more essential creative labor with AI software. In this mini-cast, we speak about what led to the writers' strike, and get an update from the picket line, with Sasha Stewart, a WGA-East council member and Writers Guild Award nominated TV writer, producer, and creator. The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) have voted almost unanimously to enact a Strike Authorization. Over 98% of the 89% of voters voted YES to Strike Authorization. This means if the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) fails to come to an agreement with IATSE, then a strike will be underway and all production of television and movies will cease. SB8, the controversial Texas Abortion Law was sent back to Federal Court this past weekend. US District Judge Robert Pitman is questioning wether the Deputization of private citizens is a proxy for the state to enforce this law. This would violate Roe v. Wade. Over 600 protests around the country took place this weekend to demand an overturn of this law. Women in Texas have been forced to carry pregnancies to term, or flee to neighboring states for care. This has led to their abortion clinics being overrun.
