This week: a sister-cast episode to a series we have called the Inbetweeners where we on the bands straddling the 80s and 90s in rock n' punk n' metal. This is more specific to metal in the 90s after feeling the impact of the overwhelming shifting of sounds during the decade. Metal became a dirty word by the mid-90s as grunge and alternative took over the rock world, but a new movement in the metal genre blended all of these influences with the heavy. Thus, we give you - 90s Alternative Metal! What's this InObscuria thing? Our podcast exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover mostly bands that have been forgotten including some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the heavy metal 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and metal bands that began during this time put it all in an industrial-strength metal blender. Hope ya dig! Songs this week include:Quicksand – “Thorn In My Side” from Manic Compression (1995)Fragile Porcelain Mice – “Brown Nickel” from Frostbiddin (1996)Therapy? – “Nasuea” from Nurse (1992)Corrosion Of Conformity – “Clean My Wounds” from Deliverance (1994)Prong – “Unconditional” from Prove You Wrong (1991)Fight – “I Am Alive” from A Small Deadly Space (1995)Life Of Agony – “This Time” from River Runs Red (1993)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Podcast Patreon It's been a while but Tommy Victor is back on the show! In this chat we get down to talking about the new Prong album State Of Emergency pretty quickly which is with good reason. Firstly it is why Tommy is doing a ton of interviews and secondly I want to talk about an album that will almost certainly be in my top five of 2023. There is also a bit of a good vibes news section that is likely to astound and dumbfound in equal measure. This Is Good News Bollocks. Video Interview

Get them snapping fingers ready, because we got Tommy Victor of Prong on the podcast this week to celebrate the release of State of Emergency. During our chat, we discuss the band's recent push in releasing five albums in five years after taking a creative break. Tommy also riffs on his preference to write everything himself, how his values in life have changed after becoming a father, and his excitement level of playing classic Prong albums in their entirety. We also enter a bit of a philosophical conversation about feeling a bit disconnected to people who need instant gratification in life, what tools of modern live performances he prefers to avoid, and how important it was to be respectful to older musicians when he was coming up in the scene. Petar and Sylvia discuss Doc Coyle of Bad Wolves calling out the online attack and boycott efforts on Thy Art Is Murder after they replaced vocalist CJ McMahon, and how we are in love with the idea of Primus, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle concept behind the Sessanta Tour. Hello Thrashers, On this episode, we're joined by heavy metal “Lifer” Tommy Victor of the iconic NYC metal band, Prong. He's been at it for 35 plus years & he joined us to promote the new Prong album, “State of Emergency”, their 13th studio album. Tommy, a true “New Yorker”, talks about is return to the East Coast, the secrets behind the Prong signature sound & why he chooses to write about current events that are revealed via his well-informed & sophisticated song lyrics. In this exclusive conversation, he opens up about the bands' now famous Parking Lot gig opening up for Metallica in NJ in August 2023 & just how he and the band got the call & more importantly, why! His vivid explanations of that day & the weekend as a whole, add a lot of color to what was an amazing day! And as always, we take a deep-dive into the KILLER new album, dissecting everything from the songs to the themes buried in the lyrics, to the variety of musical styles on the record and of course, the videos & artwork. We hear about the much-anticipated upcoming NJ record release concert, plus touring plans, and we get deep on our mutual love for the Canadian band, RUSH & just why he chose to cover a staple RUSH song (and why it's the perfect song to close out the new album). As the conversation loosens up, we hear all about his pride for being an NYC guy, and he takes us back to the early days (early 90s) touring with Black Sabbath & Ozzy AND how it felt to meet his heroes for the first time! It's a fun one and Tommy wears his heart on his sleeve throughout the full conversation. Long time Danzig bassist Steve Zing zoomed in to talk about his side project: Blak29 who just released their 2nd album "The Waiting" (out now). Here's what we talked about: "The Waiting" album (0-9) Glenn Danzig teaches how to play bass guitar (9-10) "Destroyer" song w/Tommy Victor and Johnny Kelly (10-13) Touring with Blak29 (13-15) Danzig 2 at Toyota Arena May of 2022 (15-16) Danzig sings Elvis (16-17) Samhain begining (17-23) Mandatory Metallica (23-end)
Pipemanradio talks with Steve Zing to discuss the music video for "blackout" which will be coming out in April. And as well the current album "The Wating" and all things Blak29 and Steve Zing.Coming from a background boasting such names as Samhain, Mourning Noise, and even the unholy legion that is Danzig, Steve Zing presents a new record from his current band and passion project, Blak29. The upcoming album The Waiting will be released on Cleopatra Records on March 3 and will be available on all streaming platforms. “Bleeding Love” is about the torments of life in this world, whether it be driven by love, anger, or the push and pull of what we are supposed to believe in and the fact that we are to think that someone else's beliefs is the right answer,” says Zing. "Raging Wars in my world, I'm coming back, coming back for more." The song starts off with a driving riff and some grunge-fueled vocals that wouldn't sound out of place in an amphitheater or a small biker bar. It's heavy yet catchy—If you aren't singing along to the refrain by the end of the song, you aren't doing it right. While other songs on the record lean harder into grooves or heavy riffs, this track has some distinct flavors of Alice in Chains paired with the very unique stylings of Blak29. Featuring Zing on vocals and drums, Dan Tracey bass and guitar, both wrote and produced the album. The songs on this record pick up where the first album left off, but also hit things harder than ever before. Zing also recruited Danzig bandmate Johnny Kelly, Tommy Victor, and Jyrki 69 vocalist of The 69 Eyes, for guest spots on the record. The sampling of songs on the album range from snarling, rock fury to more contemporary thrashers backed by the power of a storied musical career and a full command of the genre.Take some zany and serious journeys with The Pipeman aka Dean K. The sampling of songs on the album range from snarling, rock fury to more contemporary thrashers backed by the power of a storied musical career and a full command of the genre.Pipeman in the Pit is a music and interview segment of The Adventures of Pipeman Radio Show (#pipemanradio) and from The King of All Festivals while on The Pipeman Radio Tour. In this episode Bill talks with the Scum Of The Earth's own Riggs. We talk about how we can relate being called Scum Of The Earth, the inspiration behind that for a band name, getting out of his small town to follow his love of music, joining up with Danny Lohner in Screw, then being drafted by Tommy Victor for Prong, before finally working with Rob Zombie on multiple albums. We also talk about being single fathers, our mutual love for B Movies and Killer Klowns from Outer Space, the Ziggurats of Mesopotamia, Pentagon Declassifying the existence of U.F.O.s and nobody seems to care, all the nonsensical stuff that seems to be distracting people today, plus so much more. No lyrics, no Spinal Tap references, no dad jokes...we got business to take care of.This episode Chris and Matt have the distinct pleasure of speaking with and interviewing Mr. Ivan de Prume. From Matt's perfect introduction:"Ivan is best known for his work with the seminal band White Zombie. This includes the multi-platinum and Grammy-nominated album La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1, an album that both Chris and I agree is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Ivan has stayed busy with several projects throughout the years including a weekly radio show called Metalopolis on Rock 101 KUFO FM in Portland, Oregon, his former band Healer which combined world music rhythms and melodies with heavy riffing, and his current groove-metal band Big News whose latest release The Lowdown can be found now on bignewspdx.bandcamp.com and iTunes. Beyond drumming, Ivan is also an accomplished producer and engineer at his ownstudio, Burningsound Studios where he has worked with artists such as KMFDM, Megadeth, and Prong. Yes, Prong…..and no I did not take Tommy Victor’s wallet that night at The Whisky. Ivan’s studio site can be found at burningsoundstudios.com."WARNING: Heads-up, the internet decided to not cooperate at the beginning of the interview, so this episode starts just a few minutes after we started speaking with Ivan. The rest of the interview is just fine. You'll enjoy listening to Ivan's stories. The dude is awesome. Chris and Matt ruin everything. Born in Boston but then came to New York City and met Tommy Victor at CBGB's. They bonded and created "Prong"... my guest on Episode 196 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace is drummer, Ted Parsons. From "Swans", to "Prong" for over a decade, to "Godflesh" and "Jesu" and filling in and touring with bands like "Killing Joke" and "Foetus", with countless other side projects either under his belt or still going, this man has an impressive resumé. He now lives in Norway and has for the past couple of decades. We go into his bands and what brought him to living in Norway to a very scary brain tumor. This, as always, for me was a very cool experience. I hope you enjoy. Respect.
I first learned about "Prong" from MTV's Headbangers Ball. Once I found out who the band was during the show's intro, I went and bought the "Beg To Differ" record on cassette. I was instantly a fan. So, having the opportunity to speak with my guest on Episode 189 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace was an awesome experience. Tommy Victor founded the band in 1986. He also did sound for CBGB's. He has been a guitarist for "Danzig" for close to eleven years, he's recorded and toured with "Ministry". He has a little bit of a past with Rob Zombie as well. We speak about all of that during this conversation. Tommy rules. Enjoy!
In this episode we are joined by Page Hamilton of Helmet. We kick the episode off with our look at ACDC's great new album Power Up. Refusing to be pigeonholed, their [...] The post PRONG Mastermind TOMMY VICTOR Reflects on Upcoming EP Release: “The Record Business is Strange Right Now. This week on your favorite metal podcast we talk to virtuoso guitarist Monte Pittman, who has played with plenty of non-metal acts like Madonna and Adam Lambert, but also alongside Tommy Victor in Prong. He ha an extensive solo catalogue as well, including his latest metal installment Inverted Grasp of Balance. In our interview we talk about his whole career, from starting out in East Texas to becoming the King of LA (crowned by us), his ability to work with all walks of life, what it's like to play both stadiums and small clubs, teaching as an outlet for expression (as well as an income stream), and we try to find out more about his personal life. We also talk to DX Ferris, author of the definitive biography on Slayer's Reign in Blood, to commemorate the 30th birthday of the album. On October 7th, 1986, metal changed forever, and DX enlightens us on some of the huge misconceptions about the record, what really spurred the change from longer songs to a shorter, more polished attack, how this album may not be their best-selling, and more (you'll get the rest in a detailed post later this week on MS). DX dispels myths about producer Rick Rubin's influence on Reign in Blood's songs as well as late guitarist Jeff Hanneman's contributions. Mind = blown. Songs: Monte Pittman – "Arisen in Broad Daylight" Slayer – "Necrophobic"
Over three decades of near misses and missed trends, New York band Prong has found new life with stellar back-to-back albums. Prong mastermind Tommy Victor talks about the band's past and present and how Glenn Danzig and Al Jourgensen rescued him at his darkest hour.
