Holy smokes. The publishing industry is really stumbling its way through this new AI landscape. Some writers, agents, and publishing houses have chosen to use various AI tools and software, some have not. Some are open and honest about the way they do, or do not use AI, some are not. In this episode, where all three of us have come together for the first time, Melanie, Kathleen and I discuss whether AI is something writers should fear or embrace. We talk about critical thinking skills and whether we're losing the ability to recognize good writing from bad, human writing from machine generation. And we discuss the subjective nature of creativity and the importance of personal taste. Sr. Lorena, a Swiss Franciscan who has served 47 years in Papua New Guinea, has rescued more than 420 women accused of sorcery since 2012 and shelters survivors at the House of Hope, built using her International Weimar Award for Human Rights. Nowak describes how Missio recognized sorcery accusation-related violence as a current human rights violation, expanded support to projects in countries including Liberia, Tanzania, Ghana, Benin, and documented abuses through reporting and museum exhibitions. Yes, we are looking at you David Mba (Vice Chancellor) and Marcia Wilson (on the university executive team) who refused to meet or even acknowledge the myriad of problems with the way staff and students have been treated. Women's History Series, #2 of 4. In 1590, the king of Scotland fomented a witch hunt in North Berwick, implicating as many as 200 people, convicting 70, and executing as many as 50. He participated in the “questioning” of the accused, tearing confessions of treason and weather magic from their trembling lips. He sent those whom he “believed” conspired against him to their deaths. Why? Reading his witch-hunting treatise, Demonologie, one might assume it was because he feared the threat that magic-users posed to his country. But perhaps the shrewd and savvy king had other, more earthly reasons to stir up a panic that destroyed those who moved against him. It's time to uncork the bottle of mythology and folklore to talk about a true English original - Imps!Beginning their lives as horticultural metaphors, the Anglo Saxon 'ympe' appears in all sorts of moralizing, overtly Christian texts, including those written by Alfred the Great - only by the 17th century if you had an imp of your own you could be hanged for the crime.How did this all come about?Well, it's a combination of several factors, including Bronze Age beliefs about Middle Eastern supernatural entities that haunted toilets, bed chambers, and windowsills, the stinking bogs and fens of Ireland and the British Isles, and Medieval explanations for the hierarchies of demons following Lucifer's rebellion against God.We track the imp's evolution from House Spirits made of dough, fed with milk and flour, through to the Witch Hunts of the English Republic, and the 19th century 'Imp Revival' as prompted by Romantic and Gothic literature, fairy stories, and Victorian satire.With a disgraceful number of puns (even more than last month!) and some really weird beliefs, as well as Eleanor reading some Old English, they may be tiny but we've gone in on Imps in a big way. On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the AP article reporting James Comey's second indictment was grotesque propaganda - an opinion piece that leads with accusations of vindictive prosecution by the Trump administration's Justice Department. The piece notes Comey's history feuding with Trump and his role in the Russia investigation but these details are irrelevant to the charge. Comey's explanation for the 8647 seashells is unbelievable—especially for a former FBI director. Also, Iran is overflowing with oil and desperately seeking storage in quarries, old ships, and anywhere possible because President Trump has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz—taking it over in response to Iran's actions—preventing them from exporting oil. They continue pumping but have nowhere to store it; shutting down the wells risks destroying or rendering many unworkable.  The U.S. should give Iran two options – unconditional surrender or we finish Iran off. Later, the Democrat Party has a long history of violence and embracing humanity's worst traits. Democrats target Trump because he stands between them and the people, loves America and its founding. Their inflammatory language, labeling Trump as Hitler or a dictator, is designed to incite violence against ICE, police, and the president through mobs funded by billionaires and networks. Americans see through this. Afterward, Bruce Blakeman calls in to discuss his run for Governor of NY against Kathy Hochul. Common-sense Democrats are supporting him because the Democratic Party has shifted to far-left progressive woke policies that are un-American, denigrate the country, and have abandoned traditional American values once shared by figures like Moynihan and Scoop Jackson.
