Improving Communication With Marlise van der Merwe  G'day everyone out there. You might be wondering what we're going to be talking about today. Funny enough, it's exactly that: communication.  We're going to be talking about talking and body communication, verbal communication and the right time to communicate, how to communicate in business and why it's important. We've got Marlise van der Merwe from the Alternative Board, and she's going to be talking about exactly that. Get more tips on how to improve your communication at dorksdelivered.com.au Why is communication in business important? Why is communication in business important and how does it vary? Marlise: Communication is a process and you have to consider the message you want to send to your audience as well as the different listening styles because different people communicate differently and they have a preference to be communicated to.  Some people like more details. Some people would like the communication to be slower. They need time to process what you're saying and feel safe and have that comfortable, calm feel around them. Some people prefer to read through things and process the material in that way. There are various options on how you can communicate. The important part of it is to consider the intent of the message. What is it that you want to communicate and why? What are the most common communication challenges, and how can you avoid them? I remember many years ago, I was doing a meeting with a business north of Brisbane and I spoke to them at the rate that I normally talk, which is quite quick, people say you must have 15 coffees before you get here and I don't actually drink coffee at all. That's no caffeine doing this. It's just how I talk. At school, I could get in trouble. I needed to slow down with what I was saying, and it feels like I'm going in slow motion sometimes when I'm talking. But I know that for people to listen, people are only hearing a certain amount of what you're actually saying and a lot of that comes down to the body language in the way that you're talking, eye contact, etc. How do you pick the right audience or how do you know what other people are going to be listening to? Like, if you've got ADHD, a lot of the time, you listen or talk really quickly. Other times, if you might be talking to someone who's a country fellow that likes talking a bit slower but just enjoys the conversation and every single word is meaningful, how do you make sure that the words that you're saying have meaning and you're not just dribbling and that while you're talking, you're using the right style for the person that's listening? Marlise: The general rule of thumb is to use easy language at a general age of 15 years old. If a 15-year-old is listening and he or she understands the message, you can use this type of language to communicate with people. Not everybody knows a specific industry talk, the jargon and abbreviations they use.  When you use those terms, make sure that you also give a proper explanation of what it means and put it in context. When you're going to talk to people, say, at an old age facility or a specific city, you should do a bit of study of who your audience is—what is the general age, what's the culture, what are the language that's spoken, is English the first language, is it younger generation? Do a bit of research around that region: what's the history like, what technology trends are going in there, what type of firms and technology are they used to. Once you've got a bit of a background regarding that, you can then work on how am I going to send a clear message? What is the best medium to reach them? Would it be an email? Would it be going on one-on-one talks? Would it be broadcast media?  Business Communication and Cultural Differences  You've touched on a couple of things, including cultural differences, like if you passed your business card to someone in Japan and you handed it with one hand, it would be seen as very disrespectful. Hold it using both hands when passing a business card. Similarly, in a business meeting, the first few minutes are meant to be friendly banter. You don't just start talking about business straight away. When you came to Australia, how did business communication or communication in general change? Has that been a big shift and change for yourself? How did you fit in or make sure that you were doing the right things? Marlise: I'm from South Africa. In general, South African people are pretty straightforward. They will tell you a spade is a spade.  When I got here, I had to learn Australian English or the terms and things like, 'No worries' and 'Do you want a cuppa?' I thought, 'cup of what?' Getting used to the terminology was quite interesting. It took about a year to adjust but before coming here, I already started to look out for what certain words mean in Australia. For instance, Brisbane's talk is different from the outback. People use different terms and you pick that up when you talk to people.  By being honest and asking, 'What do you mean by that?' helps them to also understand what might be misinterpreted. Australians love to explain or put a story to the meaning of the word. I think in Australia we say 'I blew a thong' and it means you've busted a sandal as opposed to in America mother's would be holding their hands over their child's ears. When I was in Vegas, I said, 'Can I have a jug of beer?' He said, 'What? You want a jug of what? You want to see someone's jugs?' And I said, 'No, no. That's definitely not what I want to see.' I pointed to it and he said, 'Oh, a pitcher of beer.'  What are ways to make communication more effective? Contextually, you need to know what it is that you're talking about and who your audience is. Talking in gigaflops and terahertz to someone who is not in the know isn't going to make you look smarter. It's going to make them feel stupid. And that's not necessary. Marlise: Imagine the confusion. A lot of the business communication stuff comes down to not just talking but also the way your marketing is felt. You might talk about marketing in a way that's not recognised by the people. Use Terms That People Will Understand  If you're writing about features and benefits or specifications of something, some of the readers might not know why that's important to them. You might be writing it fully as a really passionate business owner, but a lot of the time, you're not your customer. That means that they're not necessarily understanding what you're writing, so they're not going to call you up. Ask for Feedback Effective business communication is very important. How do you know if you've got good communication or you don't? How do you benchmark yourself or how do you do that? Marlise: Get trusted resources. If you know someone that's got a bit of a background, such as culture, or if you can approach someone that can give you a bit more context, go and look up a few people. There's usually someone in your circle. There's always someone that might know someone that you can reach out to and bounce your ideas with. I would say go to an expert in a specific field. If it's communication and you've got a specific message you would like to say to Western Australia, talk to a contact over there and you could be introduced to someone in the marketing space that's been operating there for a few years and that might know the demographics of that area. It's always good to test your message with someone to just get a bit of feedback into the message you want to send and they will give you some input into that. If you've got an important message to share with someone, check it with various people. Check with someone from the Asian culture. Check with someone with South African culture because Australia is so diverse. I read something the other day that the original Australians were like third and fourth generation. There is always be that you could reach out to, and remember to study your target audience. If you're going to do business marketing and you consider doing a radio advert, talk to the radio owners and ask them what your demographics are like. What's your reach and who are your listeners because they know the market quite well. You don't want to talk to the audience in the 45-65 age group in a young language. Utilise Your Target Audience's Platform  Do a bit of research on the platform that you want to join. If you're going to talk to teenagers, you might consider talking to them through Snapchat or the newest one that they're talking about: TikTok. Who would have known that Facebook is actually used more by the older generation, like 45 to 65.  It depends on who you would want to reach. Consider their platform and the type of users. Some people don't want too many words, and you have to send the same message in different ways. Some people would like to have a bit more explanation of your intent in a certain way. If people want to know a bit more detail, then prepare a message in that regard. If people prefer a short message, do so but with the purpose. Bring that across like in a picture and you will publish that in different areas. I'm going to think of a scenario here and you tell me if I'm right or wrong or if I've missed the mark. Let's say I run a sandwich shop. You could say that everyone's your customer because everyone eats sandwiches, but if you were to advertise your sandwiches on Instagram, you'd be wanting to have a really nice photo that's going to be relaying the message and getting people's mouths watering. They'll be seeing the crisp lettuce and the steam coming off of it and things like that. If you were to advertise on Facebook, you could still use a similar photo. But because the audience is more likely to be parents, you might be talking more about the nutritional value of it as opposed to just quickly grabbing a sandwich on your way to work. If you were to advertise exactly the same sandwich on LinkedIn, you might be talking about big platters and the cost-effectiveness of how this would work and how quickly they can deliver and cater for businesses. If you talk about catering for businesses on Instagram, no one is going to pick up on that. Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn have their own purpose. Does that pretty much sum up how you'd want to make sure that you're adjusting your message accordingly? Marlise: Yes, that's right. Good example. You know that McDonald's advert? I think it is 'Shut up and take my money.'  We went to a marketing company a couple of years ago and they looked at our marketing stuff and they said some of the stuff we got there were a bit offensive. I said, 'Really?' He said, 'Yes, it is. Your email signature has "Leave us a Google review for a free six-pack" and a six-pack relates to alcohol, which means you're completely missing the whole Muslim community who are very much against alcohol.' I thought about it for a while and thought that's cool, except we just don't happen to have many Muslims that are working with us. So we kept it even though it's grossly offensive. I guess it's about knowing your audience and you can't be friends with everyone. There are too many different ways that people might misinterpret what you're saying, and that comes down to how to know who your clients are and the advertising platforms that you might be using. Communicate to Understand and Be Understood  Even if you were stepping away from marketing and business communication, like knowing your family and knowing your business. You see all the time in shopping centres, a child throws himself on the floor, 'I want that lolly.' And then the mother's yelling or the father's yelling, 'No, you're not going to get the lolly now. Get up.' If you have a look, the child is communicating exactly the same way as the parent—yelling—as opposed to effective communication. How do you make sure that you have effective communication? Marlise: I would say upskilling on one-on-one communication is really important, especially if you're in a leadership position. If you want to be better at communicating, you would have picked up body cues, like yawning or they just want to interrupt you the whole time. If someone interrupts you the whole time, it is like, 'You're oversharing information with me.' Those types of things will give you an indication, especially in your family members and close relatives. Sometimes they are brutally honest and they will tell you if you've got to speed up what you're saying or they don't get what you're saying. Practise with them and ask for feedback. There are organisations that can help you work on effective communication and they generate more awareness of the different types of communication with people. How would you communicate with someone who has a specific disability? What if a person can't really observe what you're doing with your hands? You've got to consider that context as well so that your message comes across properly. That also makes the medium that you're going to use. I love that nowadays, when you look at the news, they've got an interpreter for people who are deaf. They can see and do sign language. Did you know that there are various languages in sign language? I never knew that. I found out by speaking to experts in that field. If you have a hearing disability, you must consider that you've got to know maybe more than one dialect. That's so interesting. Listen Twice as Much as You Speak I've been taught you have two ears and one mouth and use them in that ratio—listen twice as much as you speak. Many years ago, I was working at a shop called Jaycar Electronics and I was one of their highest skilled audio engineers. I've gone to university to study it all. I was selling speakers for certain applications to people that really needed them. I wanted to do really cool stuff, maybe on a budget. I was able to say, 'Can you hear the difference between this and this one?' I was a salesperson, a sales assistant, and I was able to say this is why this one is better and that's why you want to spend the money on this one instead of this one. Someone came in and he's deaf and he was looking to buy speakers for his son. When he came in, it nearly made me cry because he just completely entrusted everything on what you had to say. I helped him out, but it definitely gave me that you don't know when you're doing something wrong or you might take it for granted that you might be saying things wrong or you might be being rude to people and not even know, which is obviously very different to being deaf.  I guess I was effective at communicating the product, even to someone that was not necessarily able to hear the same way as me. How can communication be improved in business? If you're yelling at your kids at home, does that mean you're bad at communication at work? Are there ways to know that you've done one thing wrong or there are things that need to be adjusted? Where would you go to make sure that you're improving on yourself?  Establish a Safe Environment  Marlise: Usually, when you look at your business processes and company's performance and a specific department or certain areas that are not doing as good as they should but some areas are great, you're expecting more from that specific area. About 90% of the time, it is because you are not having a crucial conversation with someone even if you have all the processes documented. Making sure people are doing what they are supposed to be doing by having that crucial conversation has a big impact on your legal and financial environment. For instance, when you're having a crucial conversation with someone, he or she will not be honest if the emotional environment is perceived to be not safe. So how do you create a safe environment? Make sure that they understand that all emotions are accepted. Sometimes when you say something, it might come across as being dictative or aggressive. They say there are two cues when people perceive it's not a safe environment. It's either silence, that is, people don't say what they want to say because they don't feel emotionally safe, or the conversation becomes aggressive. That's when they become intimidating and start shouting. Find the balance to create that safe environment to speak with people.  Understand Nonverbal Cues We talked about body language earlier. When people talk to you but don't make eye contact with you, there are various reasons why they wouldn't do that. Figure out which is applicable. You can say, 'If this discussion is too much detailed for you, how can I communicate more effectively with you? What works for you?  You should know your team. If you're in a leadership position, know what motivates your team. There are various tools that you can use to figure that out, the DiSC Profile method is easy to use. You can get an expert to coach your team and help you with general cues. An interesting thing I've heard is dealers know when a poker player has got a good deal just by looking at their facial expression.  Have you heard of Paul Ekman? He's got a book called Emotions Revealed that reviewed hundreds of different court cases where people have sworn an oath that they're not going to lie. He looked at these microexpressions as they're answering questions. He's also known as the human lie detector and inspired the TV show called Lie to Me. His books have been used in a lot of police academies to teach police how to pick up if there's someone who's lying or not telling what they meant to be saying. I've read some of his books, and it's amazing. As you said in poker, your facial expression can potentially be the giveaway of thousands of dollars if you've done it wrong. Marlise: Listen to cues. Cues like 'uh-huh' that means they are listening to you. When they're silent and sitting with their arms or legs crossed, they are not engaging with whatever you're saying. Adjust your message a bit and use communication tools to make things a bit more interesting. Practice, Practice, Practice  It takes practise. The more you do it, the better you get at it. Practise and talk to your family and even strangers and see how that works for you. Join networks. Have you heard about Lunchclub? It's a networking platform for practising your communication skills, but it's like a networking setup where you get to meet people. They facilitate the introduction, and I use that to meet interesting people. There are various reasons why people do that. It could be to be in contact with people that advance your business in a different area or a country, for instance. They match those needs with other people's similar.  The conversations I've had with those people are very interesting. For me, I've got to practise my communication skills and I've used different platforms to practise my skill set. For instance, I've joined Toastmasters, and I found that it's a really good platform. I go to various networking events and I listen to what people say and I try to repeat what I heard.  Asking for complex response questions and then say, 'Does that make sense?' The answer is very close, yes or no. Most of the time, people are going to say yes to that, especially if they're not engaged.  Marlise: In business, something that will indicate that your communication isn't effective is productivity levels go down. It could be ineffective communication and leadership, people not holding people accountable for what's happening in that space. They're not having those conversations they're supposed to be having or maybe they're having those conversations but it's not effective. It doesn't come through or across to the individuals. It's very important to have those good communication skills developed. Marlise: It is also very important to learn and figure out all of the skills that each individual needs to function. You wouldn't employ someone with English as their third language to do safety work, where safety is a high risk. If you have something slightly misinterpreted, it could affect people's lives.  Marlise: Communication skills should be tied to your positions. Your position, skills and skill levels should be part of that. On the softer skills side of understanding the way people talk, they should have empathy. Those are the types of skills you can develop over time. But if it's a crucial role or position, you would rather employ someone that fits that profile.  Determine What Motivates Your Employees People also have different motivational methods. What motivates Joshua and what motivates Marlise might be totally different. I like to learn new things and have different experiences, but maybe you like to have a journey through life and experiment with things and feel safe in that area to do so and then give feedback.  Use what motivates people when communicating with them. If I'm going to talk to my daughter about something that she's done wrong, I won't be shouting. With my son, I have to make him realise the consequences of whatever he's going to do, like 'That's not a good idea because you're going to lose this and this.'  It's about knowing the audience, understanding what motivates them, and adjusting the message. I know that some of the staff members at Dorks Delivered will be very passionate about telling me every single reason why they've done every single thing they've done, while others don't want to be mucking around, wasting anyone's time talking about things that need to be told. Some people really want to have that appreciation and be known. It all comes down to knowing who you're talking with and vice versa. It's not just about having the business owner having good communication. It's a whole team approach. Join the Alternative Board If there are people out there that are looking to gain more information or more knowledge, tell me a little bit about the Alternative Board and what you do with them. Marlise: At the Alternative Board, we gather small business owners and medium-sized business owners with similar complexity and in similar stages of their business around a table for a safe, secure environment. The type of people that are there are not just open to receive input but also open to give input into someone else's challenges. We use those boards to have a more affordable option for people to talk about business and solve challenges using the room's expertise.  It's similar to a board of directors in public companies. It has the same structure. Each one gets a chance to present a challenge and then a round of questions goes to understand the challenge a bit more and make sure that the goals are addressed.  And then they go into suggestion mode and then the person presenting takes suggestions and makes commitments according to the business and what he's willing to do, and then gives feedback in the next meeting. That happens on a monthly basis.  They form a trusted environment because they meet with the same people every month and they get to know each other's environment. When they've got an idea, they would bounce the ideas and the way they want to talk with people inside that group. That's really the key to solving challenges and helping each other out and becoming trusted advisers in that regard.  We also do one-on-one business coaching in terms of forming a strategic plan and then having goals in place to reach that specific personal vision of the owner. As you progress, you take those challenges and opportunities to your board. Sometimes it's really lonely for some people. I met someone who told me that his wife just wants to spend his money but doesn't want to know the challenges at work. He enjoyed joining the board. Other people from different walks of life join the board to prepare the next generation and someday distance themselves from the business. They want to prepare their team for different roles and responsibilities. Through the Alternative Board, you can meet very interesting people and become good friends. I've been in business for more than a decade, and sometimes you really feel very lonely over the years. You think you can't talk to your client about that because that might look like a weakness. You might not be wanting to talk to your partner, as you said, either because they have no interest or it's not their cup of tea.  Having a sound board or an alternative board to talk about this sort of things is really handy because you can really dive into business problems and talk to people. How much money are you making? How many hours should I be working? Am I working too much? Am I not working enough? Am I getting to where I should be for the many years that I've been in business? Marlise: How do I employ someone? How do I write the job description? What should I be looking for? Do you know someone that can help me with this? There are a lot of scary things for a lot of business owners, and that's cool. I like it. Do you have anything else you'd like to add before we finish up for today? Marlise: The only thing I would like to add is when you have conversations, consider the relationship you have with that person. When you have a good relationship with someone, you want to keep that relationship and you would use different communication styles that suit that relationship.  I 100% agree. You've got kids. Are you aware of the Captain Underpants books? Marlise: Oh, yes. I was only just introduced to the rally a couple of weeks ago, so I'm definitely late to the party. Talking to your kids about fart jokes might be appropriate, but not necessarily talking to a new business contact. They might not necessarily think it's very funny. Just make sure you're doing what you need to be doing, where you're meant to be doing it and being present. SIENNA MILLER, star of American Sniper, Foxcatcher and new film WANDER DARKLYABOUT SIENNA'S NEW FILM WANDER DARKLY, IN THEATERS AND STREAMING DECEMBER 11thIn WANDER DARKLY, a traumatic accident leaves a couple, Adrienne (Sienna Miller) and Matteo (Diego Luna), in a surreal state of being that takes them on a disorienting journey through the duality of their shared moments. By reliving fond recollections from the beginning of their romance while also navigating the overwhelming truths of their present, they must rediscover the love that truly binds them together. Writer-director Tara Miele offers a profound new perspective on the delicate nature of relationships with this emotionally moving story about a couple who must reflect on their past in order to face their uncertain future.ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY ARTICLE ON WANDER DARKLY FROM OCTOBER 2020"What do you think happens when you die?"It's a question we've all asked ourselves, but in Wander Darkly, Sienna Miller's Adrienne must literally confront the great beyond if she wants to move forward from a traumatic accident.Dolphins and lush landscapes abound in EW's exclusive trailer for the film, before darkness and horror begin to descend. Wander Darkly finds Adrienne and her partner Matteo (Diego Luna) after a car crash, which leaves them in a disorienting, surreal state in which they relive their history together - from their fond beginnings to the hard truths in their present. They can't face their uncertain future, with their newborn daughter's wellbeing at stake, until they reflect on their past.  Director Tara Miele, whose own car accident inspired her to write the film, told EW at SCAD that it was "quite cathartic" to share her story with the world. For her, the film's themes surrounding the value of life were amplified following Kobe Bryant's unexpected death, which happened the day after they screened the film at Sundance.  "I was in my head - you're at Sundance, it's quite noisy, and there's all this craziness going on," Miele said. "When that happened, I just remember thinking, 'Right, that's why you made this movie, because [life] is so delicate. It's so precious. And none of this is really 'the thing,' right? The thing is your family and the people you love and the time you have.'"Miller's recent performances - in Wander Darkly as well as in 2018's American Woman, another complex indie centered around a woman dealing with tragedy - have earned her career-high reviews. The veteran performer spoke to EW about roles for women in 2020 and what she looks for in a film."I'm always looking to be challenged. I think the roles are a little better, I think people are more focused on more fully-fledged female characters in cinema," Miller said. "I was just fortunate to find two really rich people to play. I also think being a woman is messy and complicated and hard and emotional. And they felt very real to me, very grounded in a sense of reality. And that's what I'm always looking for is, 'Does this tell the truth about the human experience from a female perspective?'"Wander Darkly arrives in select theaters and on-demand Dec. 11. It also stars Beth Grant, Aimee Carrero, Tory Kittles, Brett Rice, and Vanessa Bayer. The trailer is here: https://ew.com/movies/trailers/sienna-miller-confronts-life-death-wander-darkly-trailer/SIENNA MILLER BIOSienna Miller was born in New York, educated in England, and studied drama at the Lee Strasberg Institute. Her film debut came in 2004 opposite Daniel Craig in Layer Cake. From there, she appeared in Factory Girl, Casanova, The Edge of Love, Interview and GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Miller received a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Edge of Love, and both a BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award and an Independent Spirit Award for her performance in Interview. In 2013, she was nominated for a BAFTA TV and a Golden Globe for her role in HBO's The Girl playing Alfred Hitchcock's muse Tippi Hedren. In 2015, Miller starred in Foxcatcher, nominated for five Academy Awards. In the same year, she starred opposite Bradley Cooper in Clint Eastwood's Academy Award Best Picture nominee American Sniper. Other film credits include Unfinished Business, Burnt, and her British Independent Film Award-nominated role in High-Rise. Miller also played the enthralling Emma Gould in Live By Night and the early feminist Nina Fawcett in The Lost City of Z directed by James Gray.In 2019 Miller played Deb in American Woman, directed by Jake Scott, with co-stars Aaron Paul and Christina Hendricks. Her performance received outstanding reviews from the LA Times, TheWrap, Vogue among others. Simmons.Stage credits include the Broadway productions of Cabaret and After Miss Julie, and Flare Path, As You Like It, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roofin London's West End. Brother Singh urges our assembly and the fellowship to "stop glorying in our denominational traditions! If we resent the term denomination, he points out that it becomes an organization when an organism dies. Imposing a list of 'Does & Don'ts' on a movement extinguishes the organism's life, and it morphs into a denomination. Brother Singh challenges the Body of Christ to consider what we do that displeases God. Let's repent and turn back from practicing any form of iniquity. Uncalled ministers and elders undermine the work of God. Because the Spirit does not lead them, they turn to education and apostate teachings for inspiration. Christ's church cannot function effectively that way. Paul reminded Timothy that this happened in Ephesus. "Charge some that they teach no other doctrine, neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith." (1 Timothy 1:4)

Kate Dalley Radio - 0918 Alison Armstrong On Details How Men And Women Relate Daily Through Details BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community [ Power Quotes From The Show   What Women Don't Know About Men "Women assume that men are doing everything from a position of power and that they're abusing that power. But women don't know how much men experience being at the effect of us, how much men actually do for us, and how much a man will do to make a woman happy. A man is miserable if he can't make a woman happy. If she's not happy, then he thinks that he's not good enough and he takes it extremely personally. Men need to realize that 95% of a woman being happy is up to her; it's not up to them." - Alison Armstrong The Hierarchy Of Male Instincts "I have lived through many eras as a woman and having studied men. I have witnessed the era of 'emotionally unavailable men,' 'unhealthy men,' and now we're in the era of narcissists. But we have to hold up now; narcissism is what you get accused of when you have all of your attention on yourself and you don't care about providing for others but that can also be explained by a hierarchy of instincts which goes procreate, protect, and then provide. Neither can a man or woman provide when they experience being under attack nor when they think they have to protect. So in 2020, men are having a difficult time providing for women because they're in protect mode with the threat of COVID-19, our economy, and our wellbeing. If a man is not providing, I tell women, 'Just look around; what is he protecting you from? What is the threat he perceives and what is he protecting you from?" - Alison Armstrong     How We Can Win In Love   "I'm always teaching women, instead of asking, 'Does he love me?' ask 'How does he love me?' Instead of asking, 'Does he support me?' ask 'How does he support me?' You will live a completely different life if you're looking for how the thing you want is happening instead of checking off 'Yes' or 'No.' If we're looking for 'How' then we can see it in a rainbow of expressions instead of 'Does he or doesn't he?' and it also allows us to build on something in the relationship, create awareness for what we love about each other, and let them know how else they can love us in different ways." - Alison Armstrong   Links From Today's Show  ION*Biome PAX Programs Understanding Men Understanding Women The Queen's Code Keys to the Kingdom Never Be Ignored by a Man Again Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Alison Armstrong Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube Pinterest   About Alison Armstrong Alison Armstrong, author, educator, and creator of the widely acclaimed "Understanding Men" and "Understanding Women" transformational online series, asks the question: "What if no one is misbehaving -- including you?” She explores the good reasons behind the behavior of men and women such as fundamental differences in the ways we think, act and communicate. “ The greater the repertoire you have and understanding of your archetypes and what you need in your world to execute to peak performance, the more you’re going to rule your world.” Our recent podcast episodes have had a real focus on climate change, meditation and really exploring our place in the world. But today I wanted to bring in my recent studies of neurolinguistic reprogramming. Specifically the role Archetypes and the Hero’s Journey plays in our lives. Before you think, ‘that’s a bit out there for me’, I promise we keep the conversation very rooted in the practical implications for having a deeper understanding of these metaphorical stories. We welcome Jess back in this episode, after took the year off to explore her passions for the arts and focus on her degree in psychology. She helps me to dig us deeper into the psyche to unravel the details of how these topics are applied to our daily lives and performance goals. I really hope this conversation is are able to help you recognise where each of the archetypes are showing up in your life. Also how cultivating an awareness of when each one is active in our mind, can help us to lean into life even more. Asking ourselves things like, 'Am I being in Warrior mode?' 'Does this serve me right now?' 'Yes' or 'No'. Now I have the choice to keep thinking and acting into this archetype or choose a new one. Also to notice the patterns in a heroes journey, see that we are all on it at different stages, and develop a greater level of compassion for ourselves and those around us. That’s all from me! Enjoy! “ The reason I ‘retired’… is because I thought Hanny was an athlete… only an athlete... and I thought that there had to be a point that athleticism needed to end and the next evolution of Hanny needed to begin. Because all I thought, was that there was one archetype ‘athlete Hanny’ and ‘athlete Hanny’ needed to mature… so she needed to die…but I realise that underneath that... are all these other other archetypes… and I’ve walked away a richer person…”

Written by: Darren Dedo Case Filed: 03/29/19 - Wickenburg, Arizona Executive Producer: Rick Garner      Wickenburg, Arizona - where the old west meets the new west. A town that was founded on "there’s gold in them hills" has quite the past! That past has merged into a paranormal present: spiritual energy, phantom apparitions, things that go bump in the night. This old western town is supercharged for super natural activity!   To get a good idea why this town is so paranormal--  we first need to take a trip to the past.      “Back in 1863, gold was discovered just outside of town in a place that became known as the Vulture Mine," shared Madam Mariah of Wickenburg Legends and Ghost Tours. "And  and any time the word "gold" is shouted from the rooftop you soon have all the men, prospectors, and miners clamoring around to get their fare share as well. That’s exactly what happened here. At any one given time, there were 5,000 souls outside working that hard rock mine, many of them making quite good for themselves. And, as it turned out many of them wanted to stay in our area.”      It was an immigrant Henry Wickenburg who struck it rich at the Vulture Mine - digging up tens of millions of dollars worth of gold from what turned out to be the richest mine in Arizona. He ended up establishing a town bearing his name, Wickenburg, born in 1863. And, like many places out west, the law was loose and fast: frontier justice. Besides train and stage robbers, settlers and the U.S. Calvary had to deal with deadly skirmishes in the Indian wars. And, many lives were lost when the Hassayampa River dam failed.      “Wickenburg, the largest burg of them all, was never notified. So, wouldn’t you know at 4am that damn burst forth like a cork out of a champagne bottle! That water came ripping and tearing and taking everything with it in its wake! All the buggies and animals. When it reached Wickenburg below, all of the men, women and children perished.” It’s no wonder with such a turbulent past this town is haunted. So, the Unexplained Cases posse saddled up and road into Wickenburg to seek out those spirits.Yours truly; my 15-year-old twins - those trailblazing teens - Gracie and Caroline, my Gen Z ghost hunters; as always my buddy and Executive Producer Rick Garner; and our guest investigators, Jaime Veik and Lara Davis from the Phoenix Arizona Paranormal Society. Our first stop, a place with a sinister past. “Well, this was, indeed, the famous Texas Hotel where one of our more infamous villains use to find his victims while he lived here. None other than Dr. Pierson. He came out west going from town to town leaving death and destruction behind him all across west. When he got up to the Vulture Mine, at least 18 bodies became rather evident before once again before he moved on.” Old Dr. Pierson got into cahoots with the hotel’s owner and cooked up a scheme to poison guests and steal their stuff.       “A note would be sent to the doctor and it'd say something like "I’ve got a live one here!" The doctor would come calling and take them to dinner and drinks and of course poison them quite handily as they went alone. By the end of the night, they’d no longer be alive.”    So, it’s easy to see why the Texas Hotel is said to be haunted. The hotel is now Antiques and Artisans Emporium. It’s current owner, Beth Gallant, told us a few tall tales about the ghosts who supposedly roam her shop.     “Things move, fall of the shelf and I hear things all the time. I heard a voice say to me, “I can see you. I was here one night and it sounded like (knocks several times on counter) from one corner to the other...like a golf ball on wood. Well, upstairs it’s carpeted.      Most of the activity is said to happen in the upstairs of the shop. Apparently, one of Beth’s customers talks with a couple of ghostly characters, too.    “So, Allison lives upstairs and she won’t leave, because, she likes it here. She worked here back in the day and she doesn’t want to leave. Now, she has a little girl up there who is driving her nuts because she won’t leave her alone. Allison says she just doesn’t have anytime for herself anymore because the little girl clings to her. The little girl wont’ leave because she's afraid of the angels.”    No one knows who Allison and the little girl are and why they haunt the building. Apparently, they are most often heard in "the boot room." It was a place that certainly caused a fright for Caroline. "That room terrifies me. It makes me feel very vulnerable."      The only way to find out who or what haunts the old Texas Hotel is to investigate. Lara and Jaime busted out an arsenal of high tech ghost hunting gear to get answers. One of those devices measures changes in the electric magnetic fields – a possible sign of spirits.    “So, this is a REM-pod," says Jamie. "We are going to leave it in this room, very active room. It goes off, with this antenna it creates a bubble of energy. So, when it is broken these lights go. So, I’m going to leave it in this room while we are in another room.” if     Along with the REM-pod, Jaime and Lara also use a KII meter. The theory is that it also measures changes in the electromagnetic field. Fluctuations could mean that spirits are using energy to try and manifest.      Plus, a digital voice recorder, which picks up disembodied voices. The twins along with Jaime and Lara hoped to do just that.    Gracie sits alone in a room.“Hello, Allison are you in here? I just heard something fall and I’m not sure you did it. But, if you did can you tell me?"    Early in the evening, Gracie sat down on the floor of a room. After sitting for a few moments, she hears a loud thump near here, like something fell. She had hoped that Caroline or Rick, in the hallway outside had heard the sound as well but was disappointed that they did not and her digital recorder wasn't on. Thankfully, her chest-mounted GoPro recorded the sound.     "I definitely feel that you're here right now. I can feel your energy. For some reason, I feel a bit of pain. Did someone hurt you? I think I had a dream last night with you in it. I’m curious....were you trying to talk with me?    “There's a lot of ambient energy on the whole floor," shared Lara. "In certain areas there's been some traveling, thicker energies. Kinda moving around with us. I’ve heard some whispering which I will check later on my recorder. I’ve been marking it. I’m hearing some male and female voices. They know we're here.”    Speaking of energy, the boot room is said to be one of the most active spots in the upstairs of the old Texas Hotel. Caroline seemed to feel that.    "You guys have ghost hunted before and are used to or maybe okay with that feeling. For me, it's unsettling."    To reach out to the ghosts, Jaime and Lara used another piece of equipment: a spirit box. It’s a device that scans radio frequencies with the idea the spirits can communicate through white noise. In the boot room, a spirit with an apparent potty mouth makes themselves known.    “Did you just hear that?" asks Jamie. "It sounded like 'What the hell?' I could be wrong but I swear that was what I am hearing."    Gracie had mentioned hearing something drop and hit the floor upstairs. To figure out what was going on, we set up cameras to roll when no one was in the building and captured lots of strange sounds ranging from bangs, thumps, and knocks.    Were these noises Allison or the little girl trying to let us know they’ve never left this world? It's impossible to tell. But is the old Texas Hotel Haunted? Lara believes it could be.     “I think the first building was more active. That happens a lot when you’re investigating. One person picks up on something and another investigator picks up on something else. So, for me the first building was more active physically, energy levels, disembodied voices. But I think overall we picked up on some good evidence.”     Our next stop, just across the road,  is Cactus Maddy’s Mercantile. Another Wickenburg business…that has a supposed deadly past. It was the quarters for a Calvary Captain and his wife and children. After he died in the Indian wars – the mother allegedly did the unthinkable.    “So, on the day that they were going to be coming for the boxes to take her over to the church house she had finally had enough and she broke. She took a knife and she killed the 3 children right on the floor inside the back of the building here. Which was the captain’s quarters. Then she ran out into the night and kept running no one knew what had happened.”    Legend has it—a small child …. Maybe one of the ones who were murdered… haunts the building --- we asked the stores owner Bob Fuller    “We hear the ball bouncing as far as playing jacks. We’ll hear it coming from different places in the store and things will get moved.”    So, we broke out the ghost hunting gear, again, to investigate Cactus Maddy’s for spirits. This time, we used another piece of a equipment called an Ovilus. It has a word bank with the theory being a ghost can use that word bank to communicate. The Ovilus was very busy speaking to the team. Cesium...Aunt...15...Such...Business.    Jamie explained that the words can seem random but when pieced together, they make sense. For example, we were in a business location and the twins turned 15 last week. Who or what was trying to get the girls attention? The next response sent shivers up our spines: Paranormal. It's a word that doesn't come up often.    You’d think that would be the topper. But, according to Jaime what happened next with Caroline using the Ovilus was jaw dropping. Caroline had asked aloud if anyone was in the room with them. The device interrupted as said "For Me."    "This is a groundbreaking moment. This has never happened before. Look at the bar at the bottom, it is all the way to the right, and it has two words. It never comes in two words." The spirit continued to reach out to Caroline.     “I said 'Does anyone want to talk in here?' and it said 'Men.' Maybe there's men in here. It said property. We’re on their property. The RemPod was going off in the crawl space back there, the battery is now dead. The Ovilus just said for me. One word all the way across the energy bar. Wow.”    While that Ovilus was popping, so were the digital audio recorders. Lara and Jaime captured some good evidence of a possible ghost trying to communicate to the team.     “Help me. I heard that so distinctly. That’s not what I was even looking for. You were looking for something else and that came across    It wasn’t just audio evidence gathered at Cactus Maddy’s but also visual. While Lara was asking questions on the spirit box I captured a strange light anomaly. You can see it moving around that then floating out of screen. Many paranormal investigators call these orbs—possible spiritual energy. Skeptics might say this is dust—but, if you look at the pattern of movement—it doesn’t appear to be a dust particle. Unexplained indeed.    Just like at the Texas Hotel we also used static night shot cameras – and, let them roll when nobody was in Cactus Maddy’s. We got much of the same results: bangs, thumps, knocks, what sounded like a door slamming, and what sounded like breathing. The big question – is the shop haunted? Jamie thinks so.    “First impressions, I would say probably the second building we were in probably was the most active. Not to say that we won’t get more EVP’s here or the second place it’s kind of hard to tell. I think heard more disembodied voices. So, that kind of tells me there’s more activity in there.”    While Cactus Maddy’s was super charged with spiritual energy, the same could be said about the old doctor’s office which happened to be our next stop on our paranormal tour of Wickenburg.    “For the most part, the hospital was used for the miners and ranchers. There were accidents happening out at the mine. The building located next to the hospital was the doctor's office. He saw many grizzly things. One night, a young boy was rushed in after being crushed by the machinery at the Vulture Mine. Those great big huge wheels that were used to create energy pulled him into their wheels crushing about every bone in his body. No one could believe he was still alive!”    The miner eventually died and where he perished today is a State Farm Insurance agency. Yeah, I'm not kidding - an insurance agency. Employees say it is haven for the paranormal. So much so the staff won’t stay there after dark. Jimmie Renouf has worked here at State Farm for the last 14 years. She says experienced lots of paranormal activity.     “A coworker and I were sitting in the kitchen having lunch - just talking - we heard this noise. It was like a squeaky wheel on a gurney. I could hear it going down the hall. We heard it and when we came around the corner and looked, there was nothing there.     She describes another incident. "I was sitting at the one corner desk. It felt kind of weird, but I didn’t pay any attention to it. But, then. all of the machines one at a time started going off all the way around the room until they got to my desk. Then, I went outside because it scared me!" J.D. Johnson owns the State Farm agency and, he’s felt cold chills and spirits since moving into the building.    “There’s a concrete cellar that’s underneath the floor. There use to be a trap door and you could open it up and walk down into this cellar area. But I had no use for it, so I filled it in. I’ve heard that’s where doctor would put any dead bodies waiting for the undertaker to come.”    Nancy Ramos says doors fly open on a cabinet in the backroom. It’s so bad, they taped them shut. But, it's a strange shadow that caused a fright, too.    “I’m usually turned the opposite way to doing my work. So, I can usually tell when someone comes up behind me. And, that particular day, out of the corner of my eye I thought someone was standing behind me. I glanced over at the phone, it looked like there was something - a shadow or something. So, as you can see it does kind of give you that image. I turned around and everybody was in their desk. At their desk, sitting down. So, it was impossible to have someone behind me at the moment. At least I would've seen them walking away! Everybody looked at me weird and were like, 'What?' You will not believe me. I swear there was someone one behind me."    It's obvious the staff are little spooked by the spirits. So, we set up our equipment inside the old doctor’s office to investigate the paranormal activity there and things went crazy immediately.    Jamie and Lara's REM-pod began sounding off and wouldn't stop. Jamie says,“There’s a lot of natural EMF in the air that can make it go off. But, at this point I can’t tell if it is natural or spiritual.” He said that's not normal behavior for the device.     In addition to the REM-pod, the PAPS team fired up another piece of paranormal gear to measure changes in the atmosphere inside the building. The Eddi measures three things which could indicate the presence of ghosts: the temperature, vibrations, and electromagnetic fields.    Apparently, the ghosts were trying to tap into energy sources to communicate. For example, I had a fully charged battery on my camera and then it suddenly was drained to a quarter, This also happened to other cameras.    Just like over at Cactus Maddy’s, we tracked several light anatomies shooting across our camera screens. These spherical balls of apparent energy popped up on camera multiple times. Were they ghosts or spirits? That's up for debate. We tried to debunk these orbs as dust but, the pattern of movement seems to indicate they are some kind of a ball of energy - neither bug or dust. Something unexplained.    The visual evidence captured was yet again compelling – but, it was the words from the Ovilus that really helped connect us with the other side. Remember this was the old doctors office—the hospital right next door. Bones...Entire...Jim...Enough...    Other words from the Ovilus: Store...Human...Story...Light.. and, if you look carefully you can see light anomaly coming from the Ovilus. Could this be a ghost? Using the energy from the device to try and manifest right before our eyes.?     The atmosphere was ripe for activity so Jaime and Lara turned on the spirit box and reached to the other side. While they let the white noise play - hoping to hear a word or two to answer their questions about who are what was in the room with us - the camera captured another series of light anomalies zipping across the room.     These circular forms of energy stayed in the room with us – as we continued to get responses related to Christianity. The word Thurifer was spoken and no one was familiar with that word. Rick searched for the word and shared its definition, “The Episcopal Church...The server or acolyte who carries and swings the thurible in which incense is burned during the Eucharist and other liturgies. So, the thurifer has the thurible.    Before that, the words "Bible" and "Mommy" were spoken. One of the State Farm employees shared that when they play Christian music during the workday, things are calm. When they do not, activity increases.     And, after we cleared out the building, we left a couple of cameras running in hopes of catching more strange activity. Again, bangs, bumps, thumps, and a male and female voice were captured.     Is the doctor still accepting ghostly patients? Are the phantoms looking for a life insurance policy? Well, they’re a little late for that. All joking aside, it seems like the old building is buzzing with spiritual activity.     Wickenburg, an Arizona town with a rich wild west history! And some real ghost stories, too! During our investigation, we captured phantom sounds, light anomalies, and spirit energy with apparent messages from the dead. I think from our time investigating Wickenburg it’s safe to say this Southwestern town is haunted.

We talk about her upcoming television series and how she uses poetry that she has written since she was a young girl to develop aesthetic creative media for instagram and other creative enterprises she works within. This podcast deals with discussions on mental wellbeing and issues with sense of self. We discuss how as women, we have let relationships and being sexualised from early in life define our worth in the past. Jess explains why she feels she is at her most aspirational and hard working when she is single. The podcast takes a really engaging turn when I tell Jess how easily susceptible I was to being 'influenced' as a young girl struggling with low self esteem. Jess is incredibly aware of her audience size and of her contribution to the platform and explains how she herself has felt low as a result of comparing herself to others, we question the benefits of the mental health discussions on instagram and express our vulnerabilities being part of a generation confused. Thank you Jess, for sharing your bubbly, hospitable  personality with us and being so honest about your feelings and struggles.  Thank you to Depop for fascilitating these conversations. This week's depot shop of the week is @nellskitsch for Sabrina the Teenage Witch style second hand clothing in sizes 8-14. I am currently looking for plus size Depop pages to spotlight, please dm me on Instagram @mouldyparsnips or email me at mollyparsonspodcast@gmail.com with suggestions. Thank you for watching!

Seduce Women And Give Them Incredible Pleasure, Even In The #MeToo Era - MTP139

When the #MeToo hashtag first started, one of my wife's friends posted on Facebook about it. She said, 'Does this mean 'pound me too'? Because if it does, I'm all for it!' Women loved the post in droves, while nearly every man wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. And so the dilemma started...we as men with a healthy sex drive may be all about respecting women, but how do we reconcile that with the #MeToo era? Obviously, rapists are bad and should be locked up. But is talking to an attractive woman and/or simply looking at her a crime as well? Well, this time I'm welcoming the first-ever repeat guest onto the show. That's David Shade, the legendary sex expert for men whose tagline is 'give women incredible pleasure'. In this episode we'll offer you crystal clarity about what it means to be a sexually confident--and even dominant--man while still giving women exactly what they want in the bedroom. You may be surprised that this is the very first time David has talked publicly about the #MeToo movement, and you'll find out why that is (it's not because he's a bad guy). We'll cover the difference between being dominant and being a controlling jerk, why what women really crave in the bedroom is so counter-intuitive to most men, the significance of seduction to women, what to do if you consistently encounter women who don't want to have sex, and much more. This week we tackle the age old, innuendo laced question – 'Does size matter?' Our resounding answer is – ‘yes!’ - especially when it comes to the size of the screen on which one watches feature films. This week news broke that Netflix is considering releasing Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma and the Coen Brother’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs in movie theaters before these films play on its streaming service. This would be an unprecedented move by the media behemoth that might give these movies a much better chance of getting some awards love. Is a movie still a ‘movie’ if it plays on your tablet before it hits theaters? Is the motion picture academy ready to change the way it defines films? Should movie directors have a say in how their works are distributed? We tackle all of these issues in this episoe and discuss our ideal way of watching movies (fyi – if it’s The Conjuring 2 Sean likes it in the dark, on his couch). Plus – Sean reviews Jameela Jamil’s “I Weigh” movement and Big Sells Amita a new Bill Withers cover by the great vocalist Jose James. Links: Watch the trailer for Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma. In today's discussion the overarching question is, 'Does the husband earn submission from his wife or does it just come with the territory of marriage?' The discussion gets pretty intense at some points as we realize we don't see eye to eye when it comes to submission in our marriage. Thanks for listening!
