This week- a trio of films with a brilliant Aussie actor.     Edie Sedgwick is a young heiress who studied art and makes the move to New York City. Before long she finds herself a rising model in youthquake fashion and the muse of one of pop art's most enduring figures before addiction and socially ostracized lead to tragic results. The penultimate feature by George Hickenlooper with a stunning lead performance, Factory Girl.     After his mother's death, J has to go live with his estranged grandmother. A woman his mother kept him far away from because she is the matriarch of a violent criminal family. When the gang's leader, Baz, is killed by police a chain of events is set off that will have long lasting and devastating consequences to J's new world. The first feature from writer-director David Michôd, Animal Kingdom.      At the end of World War II a lost work by Vermeer is discovered in a Hermann Goering's hidden treasure trove. Captain Joseph Piller, who works for the Canadian military administration of the Netherlands and former resistance fighter, is tasked with tracking down whoever sold the painting. Soon he discovers Han van Meegrene and arrests him for collaboration and using the sale proceeds to fund a Nazi espionage network. van Meegrene's defense will be not just unexpected but shake up the art world for generations. The only feature directed by producer/conservationist/potential owner of a Houston Texas NHL team Dan Friedkin, The Last Vermeer.     All that and Dave knows where his towel is, Craig plays puppy nurse, Tyler sees death coming, and Kevin is in the wind on the run from charity. Oh, I mean, FOR charity. Join us, won't you?   Episode 414- A Guy for All Seasons

The final installment of Kaurismäki's 'Proletariat Trilogy', the film resembles that of a fable that takes an unexpected and comically violent turn as Iris seeks revenge on those who have done her wrong. We describe the film's sparse formal elements - an abbreviated runtime, minimal dialogue, nominal use of diegetic music, and austere mise en scène - and how it employs these components to reflect Iris' profound subjugation. Then, we examine the film's narrative and how it functions, briefly, as a mechanized process, mirroring its opening assembly line sequence and asking us to connect modes of production with an atomized social structure. Last, we discuss the film's final act, and how constant reminder of our own unfreedom often results in unexpected, volatile response.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish

Outline of Introduction to Hong Kong Film Industry Podcast Part 5 About this series of podcasts, please check here. Episode 5: “Changes in Hong Kong Cinema in the 1960s” The 1960s for the Hong Kong film industry was, for the most part, a continuation of the 1950s. Many key directors and screenwriters of the era had their origins rooted in the group that emerged in the 1950s; as such, creative theories in regard to filmmaking changed little during this time. However, during the 1960s, Hong Kong's economy had begun to break off from the economically impoverished state of the 1950s, entering instead into a relative period of prosperity. For Cantonese cinema, tragic art films were gradually replaced by “Family Style” middle-class and young family comedies. These films celebrated the self-supported “Factory Girl” and youth films that focused on the worry of a new generation that might be led astray. These gave rise to then-upcoming stars like Connie Chan Po-chu and Josephine Siao Fong-Fong, who had fervent film fanbases. As for Mandarin Films, their economic growth created an attitude of pursuing individual freedom, leading to Chang Cheh's use of Wuxia films to appeal to masculine audiences—completely changing the tradition of female movie stars dominating Hong Kong and even Chinese Cinema. In this fifth episode of the podcast, we have three segments, each focusing on the following topics; 5.1 The overall characteristics of the Hong Kong film industry in the 1960s, with a specific focus on discussing three popular Cantonese film genres, including martial arts films, romantic comedies featuring married couples, and youth musical films. 5.2 How the paradigm shift in popular Chang Cheh's Mandarin martial arts films of the 1960s influenced subsequent Hong Kong films. Additionally, there is a specific emphasis on discussing the films of directors Cheung Po Kin (Chu Yuan) and Lung Kong. 5.3 Some unique phenomena in the 1960s film industry, the impact of the six-seven riots and wireless TV broadcasting on Hong Kong cinema, and finally, the reasons for the cessation of Hong Kong Cantonese films. ****************** Follow the hosts: Kay Ho's Instagram: @kayho1430 Po Fung's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flash1030/ This episode is part of the "Preserve Yesterday - Back to Lee Theatre VR" project, which was a collaboration with the Hong Kong XR Museum.

SIENNA MILLER, star of American Sniper, Foxcatcher and new film WANDER DARKLYABOUT SIENNA'S NEW FILM WANDER DARKLY, IN THEATERS AND STREAMING DECEMBER 11thIn WANDER DARKLY, a traumatic accident leaves a couple, Adrienne (Sienna Miller) and Matteo (Diego Luna), in a surreal state of being that takes them on a disorienting journey through the duality of their shared moments. By reliving fond recollections from the beginning of their romance while also navigating the overwhelming truths of their present, they must rediscover the love that truly binds them together. Writer-director Tara Miele offers a profound new perspective on the delicate nature of relationships with this emotionally moving story about a couple who must reflect on their past in order to face their uncertain future.ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY ARTICLE ON WANDER DARKLY FROM OCTOBER 2020"What do you think happens when you die?"It's a question we've all asked ourselves, but in Wander Darkly, Sienna Miller's Adrienne must literally confront the great beyond if she wants to move forward from a traumatic accident.Dolphins and lush landscapes abound in EW's exclusive trailer for the film, before darkness and horror begin to descend. Wander Darkly finds Adrienne and her partner Matteo (Diego Luna) after a car crash, which leaves them in a disorienting, surreal state in which they relive their history together - from their fond beginnings to the hard truths in their present. They can't face their uncertain future, with their newborn daughter's wellbeing at stake, until they reflect on their past.  Director Tara Miele, whose own car accident inspired her to write the film, told EW at SCAD that it was "quite cathartic" to share her story with the world. For her, the film's themes surrounding the value of life were amplified following Kobe Bryant's unexpected death, which happened the day after they screened the film at Sundance.  "I was in my head - you're at Sundance, it's quite noisy, and there's all this craziness going on," Miele said. "When that happened, I just remember thinking, 'Right, that's why you made this movie, because [life] is so delicate. It's so precious. And none of this is really 'the thing,' right? The thing is your family and the people you love and the time you have.'"Miller's recent performances - in Wander Darkly as well as in 2018's American Woman, another complex indie centered around a woman dealing with tragedy - have earned her career-high reviews. The veteran performer spoke to EW about roles for women in 2020 and what she looks for in a film."I'm always looking to be challenged. I think the roles are a little better, I think people are more focused on more fully-fledged female characters in cinema," Miller said. "I was just fortunate to find two really rich people to play. I also think being a woman is messy and complicated and hard and emotional. And they felt very real to me, very grounded in a sense of reality. And that's what I'm always looking for is, 'Does this tell the truth about the human experience from a female perspective?'"Wander Darkly arrives in select theaters and on-demand Dec. 11. It also stars Beth Grant, Aimee Carrero, Tory Kittles, Brett Rice, and Vanessa Bayer. The trailer is here: https://ew.com/movies/trailers/sienna-miller-confronts-life-death-wander-darkly-trailer/SIENNA MILLER BIOSienna Miller was born in New York, educated in England, and studied drama at the Lee Strasberg Institute. Today’s guest comes from a long line of award-winning actors in Hollywood with family members that include household names such as Anjelica and Danny Huston. Even so, actor Jack Huston has worked tirelessly over the years to forge his own unique career path and to find his own success. Jack grew up in London, England and came from a theater educational background. Upon moving to America, Jack realized that he still had a lot to learn about the difference in skill sets between theater and film acting. While many believe that those who are born into the entertainment industry have a leg up on all the rest of us, Jack speaks honestly and vulnerably about the 7 years he spent in Los Angeles broke and out of work. After 7 years of struggle, Jack had to bravely admit to himself that he was no longer feeling the love for the profession that he once had, and made the decision to leave acting for the time being to travel, live abroad, and reassess what was truly important to him. Today, Jack discusses how fighting for an audition for a character he was not selected to read for, was what turned things around for him and pushed him to continue in his craft. From his work on Fargo, to Boardwalk Empire, The Irishman, Antebellum, Ben-Hur, Manhunt, and many more, today’s discussion includes a rare level of honesty as Jack shares valuable insight on everything from technique, to the business, as well as something that’s often less talked about.. the value of taking a break when you feel yourself falling out of love with the industry. When Sienna Miller got her first big acting job on the short-lived FOX television show Keen Eddie, she had no grand plans for her career. Surrounded by a bustling crew and a shiny, big-budget production, she was simply happy to be there, and as a 19-year-old with zero drama school experience, she had no idea about the competitive side of the industry, which instilled in her a naïve confidence in auditions that led to early success.Although Keen Eddie was abruptly cancelled, Sienna’s film career was taking off. Within the span of a few years, she made her mark in films like Layer Cake, Alfie, and Factory Girl. Of course, she learned relatively quickly that success and fame in her profession meant the loss of her cherished private life, and in the eyes of the prying, often aggressive paparazzi, she was perfect tabloid fodder. “When I was at work, I was completely immersed and serious, but I just didn’t understand why I couldn’t be very serious at work and very frivolous outside of it.”Despite her challenges with the media, Sienna’s love for her work never wavered. In recent years, she’s taken on new, exciting acting challenges. Despite being initially terrified by the immensity of the role, she turns in a heart-wrenching, tour de force performance in Jake Scott’s new film American Woman.Sienna joins Off Camera to talk about the self-torture inherent in the profession, getting bribed with a pony and a rabbit to go to boarding school, and what it was like to spend an hour in the shoes of Tippi Hedren, getting pelted with flying birds.

There are a lot of tools for testing Rails. Here are links to several of the ones mentioned in this podcast. Test Unit RSpec Cucumber Mocha Flexmock Factory Girl You can find my interview with David Heinemeier Hansson here, and my response to his comments on Twitter here. Finally, here are a few other resources for you to get started with testing Ruby on Rails. Introduction to Outside-In Development with Cucumber Here's a transcript of the podcast: Rails Coach Podcast, Episode 5 Hey, everybody, and welcome back to another Rails Coach podcast. This is Charles Max Wood and this week we’re going to go into testing Rails. You can test Rails in a lot of different ways, and we’re going to talk about some of the libraries that are around for doing that. I’m also going to talk about my approach to it; some of the things that I’m thinking about doing or changing – and I guess we should just dive right in. First off, I want to point out that there’s been a discussion on Twitter about Test Unit vs. RSpec. Now, if you’re not familiar with Ruby on Rails or who David Heinemeier Hansson is, then I recommend that you go listen to the “Teach Me To Code” podcast. I interviewed David on that podcast and talked a little bit about Ruby on Rails. And that will give you kind of a feel for who he is. He’s the guy that wrote Ruby on Rails and he is the technical partner at 37signals that makes Basecamp and Highrise and a bunch of other products that I used to use. But I don’t anymore. And that’s not the topic for this podcast. Anyway, we’re going to go into some of the things that are available for testing Ruby on Rails. I’m going to go into, first off, the discussion that was had over RSpec and Test Unit. David Heinemeier Hansson, a while back, said that he and 37signals, they used Test Unit, and that Test Unit and Mocha, which is a mocking and stubbing framework were basically all you need for good Ruby on Rails testing. Then he later said that he was a little disappointed by the proliferation of RSpec and Cucumber because he felt like they were a little too complicated and had been cargo-culted upon the Ruby on Rails community. And that started a whole lot of discussion over whether or not RSpec and Cucumber were the right tool. There were people who came out and said, Oh yeah, David’s right. Test Unit all the way. And other people came out and said, Hey wait a minute, RSpec all the way. David, you’re an idiot. And some people had kind of the reaction that I had where we thought about it for a minute and said, I’ve been using Test Unit or RSpec for a while, and I really ought to explore what the differences are and why I might want to use one over the other. I really haven’t had a chance to do that. However, I have used both; I’ve used both on different projects. And so I think it is worth discussing testing tools that are available for Ruby on Rails and what you can do to learn this stuff. So we’ll jump right in here. First off, I use – I’ll let you know – I use RSpec and Cucumber, and I use Factory Girl to generate my objects that I am going to be testing against. And then I use FlexMark for mocking and stubbing. That’s more or less what I use. Now, with Cucumber I use Capybara. And then I’ve recently started using Culerity and Celerity to test my JavaScript. And that has been working, actually, really well. So, basically I use RSpec to do some of the testing in Cucumber. For example, you can write your assertions or dot-shoulds in Cucumber steps, and if they fail then your Cucumber scenario fails. RSpec I also use for my unit tests. And unit tests are just class-level tests. They usually use some method of mocking or stubbing to isolate your object so that you can test one way or the other, or if you have a dependent object, then you don’t necessarily have to mock that out. It’s a matter of preference as to how deeply and how thoroughly you mock things out. In my case,
