NEW Research: What Really Matters in Theological Education?

For decades, seminaries have promoted the ideal—full-time, on-campus study in a traditional academic setting. But for most adults pursuing ministry training, that ideal simply isn't practical. New research reveals a clear tension between what people would love to do and what they can realistically manage. Theological education thrives when schools position themselves as a bridge between the ideal and the practical, maintaining depth and quality while removing unnecessary barriers. Sam interviews Dr. Andy Miller, from Wesley Biblical Seminary, about four key points shaping the future of seminary enrollment. The tech we have now is incredible and much more accessible than it used to be, but it is not meant to be perfect. It is a baseline, a snapshot of where you are right now, so you can pay attention to trends over time instead of obsessing over a single reading.I share how I look at my own data, from steps and workouts to sleep and blood pressure, including moments where the numbers clearly miss the mark. The goal is not one hundred percent accuracy, the goal is consistent action. When you show up and are roughly sixty to seventy percent on target most of the time, you will get better long term results than chasing perfection, burning out, falling off, and restarting over and over.If you are someone who fixates on calories, macros, or daily stats, this conversation is a reminder to zoom out, use the information as a tool, and keep doing the best you can daily or almost daily. Most people spend their entire life chasing the wrong thing and they don't realize it until something in them breaks. I know, because that was me. For years I obsessed over the what of my life — the achievements, the next move, the next milestone and ignored the far more important question: Who am I becoming? And it cost me more than I expected. In this episode, I share the moment I realized success had taken more from me than it gave, the move to Nashville that helped rebuild me, and the conversations that reframed what truly matters in this decade of becoming. If you feel lost, pressured to “figure it out,” or like you're running faster but feeling emptier — this one's for you. I'm building a deeper space for weekly essays, reflection, and real community around the journey of becoming. Sign up here: https://darinstarks.substack.com Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of Purposely Podcast, Mark Longbottom talks with Georgina Camp, co-founder of Huber Social, and Michelle McCaskill, the organisation's CEO in Aotearoa. Both are leading voices in the move toward social impact measurement that actually helps communities instead of adding more admin.Georgina starts by explaining Huber Social's purpose: to help people live well, and to support organisations to understand what truly makes a difference. Instead of counting outputs or filling in forms for the sake of it, their work focuses on listening to people's experiences and keeping wellbeing at the centre. Good measurement should guide decisions, shape funding, and change as communities change.Mark raises a familiar tension for charities: proving impact versus understanding it. Georgina and Michelle talk about how a well-designed measurement approach can reduce workload rather than increase it. They work with the people affected, the funders, and the teams delivering services to create frameworks that reflect what matters most, not just what is easy to collect.Huber Social's framework blends how people feel about their lives with practical indicators like health, resilience, relationships, and access to resources. It is flexible, grounded, and often uncovers issues that sit outside an organisation's direct control but still influence whether someone can thrive.Michelle shares what it is like to lead Huber Social in New Zealand. She talks about building a remote team and forming partnerships around the country. She also highlights the Hauraki Opportunity, a recent project involving several communities coming together to define wellbeing on their own terms. It is a good example of measurement turning into real action instead of just another report. Both guests describe a shift happening in the sector. There is less emphasis on admin ratios and more interest in whether organisations genuinely improve people's lives. Funders are also becoming more open to supporting wider issues that appear in the data, even when they fall outside an original project scope. The episode finishes with Michelle's personal journey into social impact. She moved from innovation-focused business roles into work driven by purpose and community. She encourages anyone who wants to learn more to reach out through Huber Social's platforms and be part of the wider conversation about measuring what matters.

That's why I'm thrilled to introduce my newest offering, Biofield Tuning, a powerful wellness modality designed to support clarity, balance, and emotional reset — something so many professionals desperately need right now. Joining me to explore this shift is Mark Reinisch, author of The Wellness Ethic. His message aligns perfectly with this month's Career Tip: opening your mind to what's possible — especially at a time when people are seeking more meaning, healthier boundaries, and a better way forward. Whether you're dealing with burnout, reevaluating your career path, or simply craving more alignment in your life and work, this episode offers insight, validation, and tools to help you navigate what comes next. Why the Epstein Files Won't Change Anything — And What Really Matters | Karel Cast 25-150 The Epstein files are out again, and everyone is acting like this will finally be the moment—THE document drop that destroys Trump, exposes celebrities, or rewrites political reality. But let's be honest: none of this will change a thing. We already know what we're going to learn. It won't be the bombshell MAGA fears, and it won't be the partisan hit Democrats dream of. There are no accusers naming Trump, no pending trials, and no new revelations that will suddenly flip public opinion. And meanwhile, Washington only reacts to sex scandals—despite Trump's actual, documented crimes. A treasonous insurrection. Circumventing Congress to levy taxes. Openly threatening journalists. Violations of the First Amendment. A convicted felon running for president. But America only wakes up when there's a salacious angle. So why does a sex scandal get more attention than an attack on democracy? Let's talk about what these files truly mean…and what they absolutely do not. In this episode of the HAYVN Hubcast, Nancy sits down with seasoned executive recruiter Darcy Ahl, who shares her winding career path—from writing romance-novel blurbs to working in brand management and advertising, and ultimately building a 20-year career in executive search where she is currently partner at Ahl, Berrien & Partners.  Darcy offers grounded insights on what has changed (and what has not) in recruiting, the continued importance of EQ (Emotional Intelligence), and how relationships fuel her national cross-industry success. Key Takeaways Relationships drive business: Darcy works across industries thanks to decades-long relationships, referrals, and her personalized, high-touch approach. The role of technology: Tools and platforms have changed dramatically, but Darcy cautions against mass-posting jobs—most hires still come from curated networks, not hundreds of irrelevant applicants. Current challenges in mission-driven industries: Across many impact-oriented sectors, raising capital has become more challenging — but the caliber of talent and conviction in these fields remains remarkably strong. The shifting workplace: Post-COVID dynamics continue to evolve; hybrid isn't guaranteed anymore, with many companies pushing back to the office—impacting retention, especially among women. Leadership priorities: Companies increasingly seek leaders with turnaround experience, strong communication, and the ability to guide organizations through rapid change. Future workforce predictions: Despite the rise of AI, Darcy believes humans—particularly middle and upper managers—will remain essential. "AI can write a great job description, but it can't tell me what makes someone tick." In a hiring landscape defined by constant change, Darcy's perspective is a refreshing reminder that while tools and trends will continue to evolve, the heart of executive search remains deeply human.  Her emphasis on empathy, relationships, and genuine curiosity underscores what truly drives successful placements and thriving careers. Whether you're a job seeker, a business leader, or simply navigating your next professional chapter, Darcy's insights offer both clarity and encouragement for the road ahead.
