The letter stated she faced the prospect of a two-year ban unless she could establish the source. Thus began a ten-month journey investigating, researching and writing submissions to establish how the contamination event occurred. From the 1970s to the early 1990s, approximately 30,000 people were infected with blood contaminated with HIV and Hepatitis C. Over 3,000 have since died, with one person estimated to die every four days in the UK. The affected groups include those who received infected blood via blood transfusions, such as women following childbirth, and individuals with haemophilia—predominantly males—and others with similar bleeding disorders who received contaminated blood products. Around 1,250 people with bleeding disorders, including 380 children were infected with HIV. Fewer than 250 are still alive today. Some transmitted HIV to their partners. Nuala McGovern speaks to Clair Walton, who gave evidence to the inquiry. She has been campaigning for years for the wives and partners who became infected to be heard and acknowledged.Clara Schumann was one of the greatest female musicians of the 19th Century – a virtuoso performer who gave over 1,500 concerts in a 60 year career, all while raising eight children and financially supporting her household. A new documentary on BBC Two is looking at how new forensic techniques can help police re-examine old cases involving sexual assault and rape, helping to convict perpetrators from decades ago. Cold Case Investigators: Solving Britain's Sex Crimes tells the story of three cases that were re-examined. One is that of Karen, who was raped in 1983. We've discussing the point when a person no longer has any available hishtadlut . The examples the Bet Halevi gave were when Eliyahu HaNavi was hiding from Achav, and when Rav Shimon Bar Yochai was hiding from the Romans. He then says, When a person is in such a situation where there is no effort for him to put forth, there is no means through he can attain his sustenance and needs, he should not get discouraged by this. Don't get down- the opposite. He says, Once the gates of obligatory efforts have been locked for him, (that's a poetic way of saying there's nothing else to do – the gates of hishtadlut have been locked), he's now exempt from his obligation of hishtadlut . He now knows that all there is to do is focus on his bitachon and reliance on Hashem. This is an important concept to understand. We have an obligation to pay the tax. But if we've been absolved of the obligation, even better. A powerful example of this is a story that happened to the Brisker Rav, who was the grandson of the Bet Halevi: It was during World War I, and he found himself in an area that was being bombarded. A decision needed to be made about whether the people should go down into a bunker or remain where they were. During this discussion, the Brisker Rav was visibly nervous and tense. Finally, he said there's no way of knowing which option is safer . He then went into his living room, sat down, and started to learn calmly and peacefully, as though nothing was happening. One of the students asked him why he was suddenly calm, when only moments ago, he was in a tizzy, seemingly anxious over the decision. The Brisker Rav explained, “ As long as a decision had to be made, I was under the Torah obligation of hishtadlut to do everything necessary to guard myself and those that are around me. So I needed to think and put forth reasonable efforts in terms of searching and deciding what the best place to be was. But once I determined that there was no clear advantage to one option over the other, and therefore, there was no obligation of hishtadlut, I could now relax.” When there's nothing to do, we should feel more relaxed , not more anxious . We should realize that we've been absolved of our responsibility to act. We did everything that we can do. As long as there are things we can do, we have to ask ourselves:” How much hishtadlut should I do? How many times should I call? How much should I push?” But now I'm totally absolved. Does this situation ever happen to us? The answer is yes. Every single week, when Shabbat comes, we're supposed to look at our work as if it's been fully completed. We're supposed to say, Melachtecha K'Ilu Asuya because in a sense, it has been completed. Hashem told us not to work, and that means, by definition, that there is no work to do. Hashem determined that we need to work in the first place. He was the one that imposed the hishtadlut tax. And He's the one that tells us every week that we're free from the tax that we're forced to pay. Therefore, if we talk about, worry about, or even think about our work and our finances on Shabbat, we are unnecessarily paying a tax. Hashem gave us Shabbat as our day off. That means Shabbat is the perfect opportunity to develop and enhance our bitachon, because that's the one time a week that, for sure, there is no hishtadlut for us to do. That's why Shabbat is called Mekor Haberacha . Shabbat is a source of blessing because Shabbat is the time that we are able to home in on our Bitachon skills. Let us take advantage of the precious opportunity that Shabbat offers, to strengthen our belief that Hashem cares for us always . Doing so will help us remain calm, content and confident at all times, in all circumstances, during the week as well, even when we feel helpless. This is an eye-opening approach. As we've mentioned in the past, Rav Wolbe writes that bitachon is very elusive. People sometimes mistake bitachon for laziness and an excuse not to work and not to invest effort. In reality, however, once a person has truly done all he can do, he's not lazy. He can relax, trust in Hashem and feel gratified at being relieved of his responsibility to invest effort. And he can now rest with a clear conscience. He's not lazy. He did everything he can. He knocked on all the doors. Right now, is the time to work on bitachon. Have a wonderful day.
Confession and absolution offer more than assurance, they gift real and genuine Divine promises.
A listener named Darby asks Father Dave about a recent issue she experienced during the Sacrament of Reconciliation. She shares, “I went to Confession the first time in a couple of years this past weekend. I had a lot of sins to confess. As I was stating my sins to the priest, I started with an internal battle I'm having right now. He cuts me short, and he gives me the blessing and my penance. So those sins that I couldn't verbally tell the priest – are those still going to be forgiven?” She notes that she's heard sins a person purposely withholds are not forgiven, and wonders if this would be a similar situation.

The Office of the Keys is that special authority which Christ has given to His church on earth to forgive the sins of repentant sinners, but to withhold forgiveness from the unrepentant as long as they do not repent. (Small Catechism: Office of the Keys)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Keys represent power—the ability to go places and to do things. You cannot go into the locked house unless you have the key. You cannot drive the car unless you have the key. The prisoner cannot go free unless he is given the key to his bonds.Jesus came to die on a cross, thereby taking away the sins of the world. He entered our prison, so that we can enter His Father's home. He went to the gallows, so that we can go free. Jesus died, so that there is now forgiveness—enough to cover every sin!Jesus gave the Keys to His Church and He also gave pastors to use the Keys whenever the Church gathers together. What are the Keys? They are power—the power to distribute or withhold the forgiveness of sins. The first time the Keys are mentioned is in Matthew 16:18-19. First, Jesus blesses Peter and promises that the gates of Hades will not prevail against the Church. Then, He gives the Keys of the Kingdom to Peter and the other apostles. What do these Keys do?On the one hand, these Keys bind and loose. Sins are like iron chains that bind us and weigh us down. The Law tightens the chains, but the Absolution loosens them, so that they fall off the repentant sinner! On the other hand, we might say that these Keys open doors. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus speaks of the gates of Hades. Then, in verse 19, He mentions the kingdom of heaven. How do sinners get into the kingdom? The gates must be opened with a key. You get into the kingdom by receiving the forgiveness of sins! Jesus speaks similarly about Baptism in John 3:5. He says that you enter the kingdom of God by being born of water and Spirit. Baptism brings you into the kingdom, because Baptism is an Absolution!Are you feeling weighed down by sins and outside the kingdom? It is time to go to your pastor. He's got the Key! On Independence Day, Some Advice from the Declaration on Fighting Absolute Despotism Today's Links:National Archives: Declaration of Independence: A Transcription (full text is also below)You're listening to the American Democracy Minute, keeping YOUR government by and for the people.We can't read the entire Declaration of Independence in 90 seconds, but here's a portion for Independence Day: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. This program will compare and contrast the US Declaration of Independence, written in 1776, with the globalist Declaration of Interdependence that was written in 1975, anticipating the 200th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence. There are numerous Declarations of Interdependence beginning at least since the 1930s, nearly all of which urge the end of national sovereignty and its replacement with global government. I will focus on the Declaration of Interdependence written in 1975 by Henry Steele Commager. The US Declaration of Independence states "that these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do." The Declaration of Interdependence states that "it is necessary for the people of The United States to declare their interdependence with the people of all nations"; that "now we must join with others to bring forth a new world order." The US Declaration of Independence concludes with the statement: "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." In other words, we rely on divine Providence (the protective care of God), not on anything else. Psalm 33:12 In this sermon by Pastor Joe Still, he writes, “I spent some moments this week re-reading and reflecting on a few of the founding documents of our nation; as well as additional writings by some of the Founders and other great leaders in its history. One of those documents was the Declaration of Independence. The concluding paragraph of that document has only two sentences, one of which is quite long. Like so many others, I fear that as a nation, we have departed from that dependence. So this week my prayer is “Sovereign LORD, as you allow us to celebrate our independence as a sovereign nation, please restore our nation’s dependence on YOU. For YOU alone are the One who has created all men and women equal and have endowed us all with the unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Declaration of Independence – Wisdom Wednesday Thank you for joining us for our five days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. Today is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-901/ (Day 901) of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. In honor of Independence Day in the United States, I am going to delay our next essay and instead provide you with an overview of the Declaration of Independence. We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. While we cherish the freedom that we have in the United States and are thankful to be born and live in the United States, true freedom can only come from God through Jesus Christ. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+5:1&version=NLT (Galatians 5:1) reads, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Declaration of Independence – Overview The significant aspect of the Declaration of Independence is that it changed the American “rebellion” against Great Britain into a “revolution.” From April 19, 1775, until July 2, 1776, the war was being fought so the colonists could regain their rights as Englishmen, which had been taken away by the British for the past 12 years, from 1763-1775. On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress approved the resolution by Richard Henry Lee from Virginia that “these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved…” This was truly a revolutionary statement. John Adams felt that July 2 would be the day that would be “solemnized with Pomp and Parade with shows, games, sports, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this Continent to the other…” July 4 is the day that has been chosen as our “Independence Day.” That was the day that the Second Continental Congress approved, but did not sign, the Declaration of Independence mostly written by Thomas Jefferson. It was actually signed on August 2, 1776. Other important historical events have had a lot to do with the sanctity of July 4. It was on that day that the news of the Louisiana Purchase arrived in Washington, Henry David Thoreau arrived at Walden Pond, and President Abraham Lincoln learned of the Union victories at Vicksburg and Gettysburg. However, the one incredible event that happened to ordain July 4 as something significant were the deaths of both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams on July 4, 1826, only hours apart from each other. The Declaration of Independence is on public display at the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Archives_and_Records_Administration (National Archives) in Washington, D.C. There are a lot of very interesting facts that surround Independence Day. You would be well served to study them on your own. The United States is a great country to live in and to become a citizen of. Just think how much greater our heavenly citizenship will be. The entire month of Elul is a time of daily preparation for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. In this brief podcast, we look at how we can begin spiritual preparation for Yom Kippur, which begins with "Kol Nidrei," which means "All Vows" -- vows that are absolved by the Heavenly Court. What are these vows? Is it something ancient? What does this have to do with my spirituality? Actually, this ancient idea, which was a core of Torah and Temple spirituality, is EXTREMELY relevant to how all human beings operate spiritually, and our awareness of what we do already helps us focus on how to raise ourselves spiritually so we can arrive fully prepared for the Heavenly Court.
