In this episode of The Talent Tango, Amir Bormand is joined by Alex Kim, Head of Talent at NewLimit, to discuss the nuances of expectations and requirements in talent acquisition. They dive into how talent professionals can better understand and serve domain experts, establish success criteria, and adapt to the unique challenges of niche and bleeding-edge industries like biotech. Whether you're an early-career recruiter or a seasoned talent leader, this conversation offers invaluable insights into building trust, setting realistic expectations, and aligning talent strategies with business objectives. Key Takeaways: Understanding the Stakeholders You Serve: Talent acquisition is a consultative function. By deeply understanding the organizational structure, team dynamics, and priorities, recruiters can align their strategies with business goals. Data-Driven Collaboration: Use talent mapping and market data to set clear expectations with hiring managers, especially for niche roles. Transparency is key to refining hiring criteria and finding creative solutions. Building Relationships Beyond the Job Post: Strong relationships with hiring managers aren't built overnight. Attend team meetings, listen actively, and invest in understanding technical priorities to foster trust and streamline collaboration. Navigating Challenges in Niche Hiring: Hiring for cutting-edge industries requires long-term thinking and creative sourcing strategies, such as engaging academic institutions and leveraging leaders' networks for outreach. Balancing Process with Agility: Processes should enable, not hinder, recruiting success. Adapt your approach based on organizational priorities and challenges, knowing when to tighten or loosen guardrails. Timestamped Highlights: [00:01:10] Alex defines what it means for talent professionals to serve domain experts. [00:03:07] The importance of understanding organizational design and team strengths before starting a search. [00:04:40] How to build trust with hiring managers and maintain relationships during lulls in hiring activity. [00:07:22] Alex on pushing back against unrealistic expectations with data and market insights. [00:12:45] The unique challenges of sourcing for bleeding-edge industries like biotech. [00:18:07] Redefining talent acquisition as a consultative role. [00:24:04] Balancing process efficiency with the need for agility in recruiting. Quote of the Episode: "Despite being domain experts, hiring managers rely on us as talent advisors—not order takers. Our job is to bring the market data, build relationships, and guide them toward the best talent solutions." — Alex Kim Resources and Links: Connect with Alex Kim on LinkedIn: Alex Kim Email Alex: alex.kim@newlimit.com Learn more about NewLimit: NewLimit Website Subscribe and Follow: Don't forget to like, subscribe, and leave a comment about what resonated with you from this episode. Good day listeners this is your host Michael Martinz with new and improved Martinz ELEVATED Review broadcasting today from a rather chilly and snowing morning here in south central, British Columbia. In today's program we will re-examine a rather prophetic paper from May 2021 covering the potential, and now realised harmful effects of the C19 injections.  We will then cover the mechanisms by which glyphosate disrupts deuterium homeostasis and impacts human health. Today on the program we welcome back a regular contributor and dear friend, Dr. Stephanie Seneff.  A Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory,  Dr Seneff received her BSc in Biophysics, an MSc and Electrical Engineering degree, and a Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - all from MIT.  For over three decades, her research interests have always been at the intersection of biology and computation. She has published over 170 peer reviewed articles, and has been invited to give multiple keynote speeches at international conferences. Her recent interests have focused on the role of toxic chemicals and micronutrient deficiencies in health and disease, with a special  emphasis on the pervasive herbicide, glyphosate, and the mineral sulfur.   Her book on glyphosate, entitled "Toxic Legacy:  How the Weedkiller Glyphosate Is Destroying Our Health and the Environment," was released by Chelsea Green publishers on July 1, 2021.  This book was selected by Kirkus Reviews as one of the best non-fiction  books of 2021.  Recently Dr. Seneff has become fascinated with the role of deuterium in health and disease, and the mechanisms by which glyphosate disrupts deuterium homeostasis. For those listeners who may have missed Dr. Seneff's previous appearances, those episodes for your reference are #124, #93, #73 and #22. Papers covered in this episode include: 1) Stephanie Seneff and Greg Nigh, "Worse Than the Disease? Reviewing Some Possible Unintended Consequences of the mRNA Vaccines Against COVID-19". In this episode, Alex Kim, MD, PhD, explains the innovation of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion (HIPEC). It's a complicated procedure in which heated chemotherapy is injected into a patient as part of the surgery to remove their metastatic tumors. HIPEC, Kim explained, is used most often to treat colorectal cancers that have spread to the stomach. “First, we surgically remove any visible tumors that are within the belly cavity,” he said. “But, we know there can still be some cancer cells there.” To “kill” these cells, the heated chemotherapy is injected using a catheter and profusion device. Heating the chemotherapy allows the anti-tumor agents to better penetrate the outer cellular membranes of cancer cells.

Diversity In Hunting Diversity in hunting and the inclusion of all people is a serious issue that hasn't often received enough serious attention. We in the outdoor world who hunt and fish are not immune to this. For too long the community and the industries that feed off it have been too insulated, playing only to those who were traditionally active participants. It's now time to reach out to the broader world and welcome people into the water and woods to take part in hunting, fishing and foraging. It's unfortunate that there are still hurdles to this and that it takes situations like the killing of George Floyd for people to wake up to the challenges that exist for people of color, or any other identifying characteristic that attracts judgement by others. Modern Carnivore has made a commitment to highlight these issues, to talk about them, and to continue to look for ways to eliminate barriers to entry in the outdoors. In this episode Mark's guests are Jenny Ly who is the founder of Chasing Food Club and Alex Kim who is the former diversity coordinator for Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. They're both new hunters and share their thoughts and perspectives on starting to hunt not only as an adult, but as a Vietnamese Canadian and a Korean American. At Modern Carnivore our mission has been, and always will be: ...To awaken the hunter within. We introduce people to hunting, fishing and foraging through conversations about real food. We respect each person's background and welcome them into a community that values conservation, access to public lands, fair chase of fish and game and the enjoyment of real wild food. Jenny, Alex and Mark recording the podcast at the 2019 BHA Rendezvous I hope you find this podcast helpful as we look to have more conversations on the issue of inclusion in the outdoors. Make sure you also check out Episode 9 of the Outdoor Feast Podcast by Modern Carnivore. The following conversation was a live recording in front of an audience for DesignPhiladelphia 2017. I want to thank the Center for Architecture and Design and DesignPhiladelphia for providing the venue, technical support,  and for listing this event as part of DesignPhiladelphia. Thank you to AIGA Philadelphia for partnering on the creative happy hour before the event and for all the support, and everyone who contributed to the happy hour (honeygrow for providing the food, Yards for providing the beer, the AIGA board, and especially the AIGA volunteers Kevin Warren and Alex Kim).
