The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (03/13/2024): 5:50pm- The Rich Zeoli Show is abbreviated today—thanks to college basketball. BUT Rich jams a full show's worth of content into 1 hour and 10 minutes! 5:55pm- New York Governor Kathy Hochul blames Republicans for chaos at the U.S. Southern border, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announces plans for a new carbon tax, and running back Saquon Barkley signs with the Philadelphia Eagles—could Jason Kelce come out of retirement? 6:05pm- On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted in favor of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act—a bill that would force TikTok's parent company BytDance to divest its ownership in the social media application, citing its ties to the Chinese government. If they did not divest, the application would be banned. The legislation passed with bipartisan support 352 to 65, with those in support expressing fear that the Chinese government may be able to access American user data. But notable politicians in opposition—like former President Donald Trump, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY), and House Freedom Caucus Chair Scott Perry (R-PA)—have all cited fears that the bill could be used as tool for government officials to interfere with speech on all social media companies. The bill will now head to the Senate—though, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has not committed to putting it up for a vote. President Joe Biden has vowed to sign the bill into law if it ultimately arrives at his desk. Shouldn't individuals be allowed to choose which products they use? Or is the risk of the Chinese government gaining access to American user data too great to respect individual autonomy and free markets in this instance? Senator Elizabeth Warren has suggested that the bill doesn't go far enough to prevent social media's influence, explaining that she wants “curbs in place on social media across the board,” according to Politico.  6:20pm- Richard Fausset and Danny Hakim of The New York Times write: “In a surprise move on Wednesday, a judge in Atlanta quashed six of the charges against former President Donald J. Trump and his allies in the sprawling Georgia election interference case, including one related to a call that Mr. Trump made to pressure Georgia's secretary of state in early January 2021.vThe judge, Scott McAfee of Fulton Superior Court, left intact the rest of the racketeering indictment, which initially included 41 counts against 19 co-defendants.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/13/us/donald-trump-charges-quashed-georgia-mcafee.html 6:30pm- On Tuesday night, after winning primary contests in Washington, Georgia, Mississippi, and Hawaii, Donald Trump secured the 1,215 delegates needed to officially win the Republican party's presidential nomination. President Joe Biden also earned the delegates necessary to officially win the Democrat Party nomination. 6:40pm- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, inflation rose 3.2% year-to-year—and is up 0.4% from last month. During an interview with Fox Business, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen conceded that she should not have used the term “transitory” when describing inflation. 6:50pm- Andy Newman of The New York Times writes: “On a subway platform in the Bronx recently, a girl in a puffer coat strolled past passengers with a basket of M&M's, Kit Kats and Trident gum slung across her shoulder. She looked to be 7 or 8. Of all the manifestations of human misery that the two-year-old migrant crisis has brought to New York City, few trouble the conscience more than the sight of children selling candy on the subway — sometimes during school hours, sometimes accompanied by parents, sometimes not.” You can read the full report here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/13/nyregion/migrant-children-selling-candy-subway-laws.html

Today joining Alex & Annie is Andy Newman, Founder & CEO of Newman Hospitality - a company that connects Real Estate Investors with high income short-term rental opportunities. Newman Hospitality operates in South Florida, Northern Virginia and Indiana, which at first glance might seem like an inefficient mix of locations, but as it turns out this very approach has given Newman Hospitality the chance to avoid the huge risk factor and seasonal woes of having all of your eggs in one geographical basket. Andy mentions that this strategy blossomed from his banking background, where risk management is everything. Newman Hospitality has been able to retain their workforce year-round, and harvest the fruits of diversification. One interesting statistic that Andy brings up is that by spreading out your properties by at least 50-75 miles, you reduce your climate risk by half - which is a huge advantage in a market like Florida where natural disasters are becoming a common occurrence. How Newman Hospitality came to be was when Andy started his first venture after leaving corporate banking in 2010. He had gotten used to traveling and spending a lot of time in Airbnb's, and he enjoyed the experience so much that he started hosting his friends & family for free. That drove him to the VRMA and hospitality sector in general, on a mission to become a better host. Currently, Newman Hospitality manages 130 properties. As many businesses do, their initial approach was to scale their portfolio as fast as they could, but after a while they started disqualifying and getting rid of properties that weren't up to their standards. Their evaluation process focuses on three key elements - Property, Location and Owner. This has served them better than purely focusing on short term revenue, as disqualification avoids major headaches in the long run and guarantees that the customer experience is consistent in every location. One of their biggest recent strides was becoming part of the Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy network. While anyone can join Airbnb without much effort, Marriott Homes & Villas is a truly exclusive network that requires a good bit of qualification to join, and has been a huge selling point for both renters AND property managers to put their trust in Newman Hospitality. In this weeks episode, host Chris Cottrell interviews the head coach of California State University, San Bernardino, Andy Newman. Currently, CSU San Bernardino is 20-2 and ranked #6 in last weeks NCAA D2 Mens Basketball Top 25 Coaches Poll. Coach Newman is in his 4th season as the head coach at CSU San Bernardino and has an overall record of 56-24. In today's episode Coach Cottrell and Coach Newman discuss navigating the year off from competition in the 2020-2021 season. Cottrell and Newman also discuss how the year away and CCAA's decision to cancel the season, impacted recruiting and the roster at CSU San Bernardino. Coach Newman also talks rebounding margins, assisting the basketball and their elite backcourt of Darius Lubom, Brandon Knapper and Darius Mickens. Previously Newman led the Coyotes to a 15-14 record in his first season with a win over then ranked #16 UC San Diego, who is now an NCAA Division I institution.  In a shortened second season at the helm, San Bernardino was 21-8 and preparing to play Azusa Pacific in the first round of the NCAA tournament when Covid disrupted that event and the entire NCAA Tournament.  In what would have been his third season, 2020-2021, the CCAA, the California Collegiate Athletic Association shut down basketball and programs did not compete as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.  Before arriving in California, Newman was the head coach at the University of Texas Permian Basin where he won more than 100 games and advanced to the NCAA D2 National tournament twice. In parallel, he had a breakdown (temporary) of money, that's why he started to move. At May 21, 2021 – he is still ill by Coronavirus – with severe aches at the left lung. I see him with enlargement of the genitals – as a swelling, tough breathing and painful movement with a temperature which is sharply falling and raising. Andy Neiman had some talks in the hospital, a check, blood tests, kidney, throat and thyroid gland examination. He was invited to a separate office for a discussion (interview) by a medical company with experimental drug (medicine). He had talks with them, but not an agreement. He received an injection (first one) – he had to provide money. The money he owned were insufficient. The medicine injected in him has made him slightly dizzy. As soon as he left the hospital, he was taken by a dark car with a woman inside it (with light brown hair stretched back). He felt very sick and he accepted it as help. He is alive now and he is getting better, but he is under observation by the same company. Now, Andy Neiman is located in a living area – high floor. His health is improving, but his mind is in a sleeping condition. He is talking only without voice, he talks a lot and he is very angry. The location of Andrew “Andy” Neiman can be traced through the cameras which have detected talks with the company and tracing of her employee – a young woman. There was an interest shown to his work, earnings, his money. I see his spirit to leave out of the body and he doesn't like his condition – lying on his stomach with his head downwards. The place where Andy Neiman is located at South from the building where he lives, high building, the apartment is at the northwestern corner. It's not far from his place of living. Andy Neiman always believes that things will be fine. The future – there will be an attempt for taking of kidneys, but he is unique and his body organs will not be accepted by other person. His uniqueness is in his blood. His kidney has an outgrowth. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Clairvoyant reading to the Missing Andrew “Andy” Neiman (Andy Cohen's missing friend since May 21, 2021) – by Clairvoyant Stoyanka Staikova – June 10, 2021 I see pain in the eyes, I feel he felt very strong on the back of his body – he feels a severe aches at the back of his head and his back, his thyroid gland is enlarged. His body is not moving – he is as sedated or in a deep coma – I see a minimal activity to the organs of his body – ahead of stopping. His legs are immobilized. I see a strong energy in his stomach. He owed a big sum of money to an underground (criminal) authority. I see that Andy Neiman doesn't have money. He saw two persons close to him to die. I see high buildings around him. You've just eyed up a pizza on your food delivery app, and boy does it look good. But do you ever think about what goes on after you hit the 'Order' button? The New York Times' Metro reporter Andy Newman spent six days delivering food as a freelance deliverer for food apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats, and he discovered what the other side of food delivery is like. Food writer Corby Kummer joined *Boston Public Radio *on Tuesday to describe what full-time deliverers experience. "The larger truth is delivery people are not treated as people. These apps may be your friend when you want a rose oolong tea delivered to your door in ten minutes, but they are not the food service providers friends and they are definitely not the workers friends," he said. Kummer related a particularly worrying account from Newman's NYT's article about a DoorDash worker who was injured. "One of the great quotes in the main story was a DoorDash worker who fell and broke both arms. All DoorDash did was send him or her a 'Get Well Soon' card. Nothing about insurance, nothing about workers compensation, the whole thing was like this nightmarish dehumanizing experience." Customers tend to negatively target workers in the food business and rude behavior isn't getting any better with technology playing as a middleman, Kummer said. "Social isolation is considered the main health problem in society right now. It is happening all over society and it is a kind of dehumanizing that comes of only communicating with people on your cellphone via apps and not voice. People aren't being treated as people," he said. "Make sure the tip goes to the worker, open the door, look the person in the eye, say thank you." Some delivery food apps don't pass on customers' tips to the deliverer, Kummer added. "Another nefarious, terrible, dehumanizing thing about this is the apps greedily steal your tip. So the customer might think they're tipping well, but the companies apply that tip toward the cost of their delivery and they don't pass it on to the deliverer. They just give the deliverer the guaranteed minimum. Try to figure out or insist that the companies actually say whether the tips go to the workers, because often they don't," he said. Kummer also pointed out that the delivery service Grubhub steals business from restaurants. "Think about where you order from and the way the restaurants are being treated. Grubhub is stealing people's restaurant names to create phony websites to take away business from them and steal their commissions."

Then, climate change is often depicted as a "white people's issue," and of course, rich white people are largely responsible for the situation in which we find ourselves.
