A retrospective cohort study of 304 adults (aged 20-74) found that while no-exercise, aerobic training (AR), and resistance training (RT) all led to similar total weight loss on a calorie-restricted diet, the quality of that loss varied drastically. Participants in the RT group were the only ones to experience true body recomposition—simultaneously losing significant fat mass while actually gaining fat-free mass (averaging +0.8 kg in men and +0.9 kg in women). In contrast, those who did no exercise or only aerobic exercise lost substantial muscle mass along with their fat. This year, the PorterShed in Galway will be the location for the 2026 Sustainable Media Ireland (SMI) annual conference. It is the first time it will be held outside of Dublin, and TG4 are delighted to be the host. Sustainable Media Ireland is a network of media organisations that come together to discuss and share information, consider policy and promote engagement on all aspects of sustainability across Ireland's media sector. The conference will be a day-long experience, featuring talks and panels looking at many aspects of the media in Ireland, all through the prism of sustainability. While this clearly means careful consideration of the environment, it also considers the economic stability and social and cultural impact of our work. Previous SMI events took place in Virgin Media Ireland studios and RTÉ studios. This year's event will feature a look at the contribution Manchán Magan has made to the Irish language, television and our appreciation of the land. Technology innovator Glen Mulcahy looks into what impact AI could have in the not-too-distant future. After a very wet and stormy start to the year, there will also be a discussion on business resilience in the light of increasing extreme weather impact. Former justice minister Alan Shatter said he has been the target of a vicious and antisemitic smear campaign since Social Democrats justice spokesman Gary Gannon put up a social media post that linked him with Jeffrey Epstein. Mr Shatter, who was Fine Gael's justice minister from 2011 to 2014, said he has twice written to Mr Gannon and Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns in the last week seeking the withdrawal of false claims that he met Epstein while in office. It is understood Mr Shatter is considering taking defamation action against Dublin Central TD Mr ­Gannon. Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns declined to comment on the issue on Sunday. Asked whether Mr Shatter will be receiving an apology from she or Mr Gannon, she told RTÉ's The Week in Politics: "This is potentially a legal matter so I can't comment on this."
