After roughly half-a-dozen episodes of unfortunate absence, we're pleased to welcome Dustin back to the fold, and just in the nick of time at that. A trio of interesting stories have bubbled to the surface over the past week worth examining, and they require further inquiry from the whole cast. For starters, Sony's financials show a stagnant (albeit perfectly healthy) PlayStation brand, as PS5 marches ever-slower towards 100 million units sold. And then there's Electronic Arts, the pioneering American publisher that sold-out to a wealthy foreign interest, with untold ramifications on the other side of the biggest-ever leveraged buyout in human history. Finally, we come to Netflix and Rockstar, who have teamed-up for what can only be described as a unique approach towards showcasing Grand Theft Auto VI, one (perhaps not surprisingly) some people aren't thrilled about. Among other news (and other nonsense), we also get into your listener submissions, as we do each week. How will MLB: The Show 27 be affected next year by what appears to be an inevitable work stoppage in professional baseball? Is there any workable idea for a framework surrounding the second-hand buying, selling, and trading of digital games? Could Sony blunt PlayStation 6's inevitably-high cost by taking a page from Xbox's book and offering hardware on long-term payment plans? Has Colin been saying "beaucoup bucks" wrong, or does one listener simply not know his French? This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Spider-Man swung back into theaters, and it did exactly what we knew it would. The question is though, was it good? The RAMageddon becomes the RAMpocalypse, as it comes for every component, and will continue forever. Black Ops 1 & 2 jump the sales charts, and EA goes private. Meanwhile we should have listened to Wesley when he said he was the only Blade.

Welcome to episode #284 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional! In this episode, we start off with a recap of COD champs, as the regular season for Black Ops 7 has officially ended, only now with EWC remaining as the final event to cap off what has been an amazing season in the CDL. We give our thoughts on the grand finals, and what this now does for the landscape of players within the league. Along with this, we cover the highs and lows of the remaining teams, and some of the controversy that has now led to a debate within the league, all in the hopes of achieving a consistent and fair game. Finally, we close with covering the MW4 gameplay that has been long awaited, and all of the pros and cons that have come from creators who got to play and those who have been analyzing. We give our thoughts on what we've seen so far, and shift towards a talk around adapting to the new CODs every year, and the importance of doing this to keep getting better as a player. Did you watch COD Champs this year? If so, what did you think of the matches overall? Do you agree with some of the debate around PC issues that has been brought up? Should the league cater to player's requests more often, or are players simply complaining? What are your impressions from the MW4 gameplay? Do you think we are in for a good year, or are things looking sketchy? Finally, do you agree with our thoughts on the importance of evolving as a player from year to year? Do you feel you've improved or stayed the same over the past few years as a gamer? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! A new report from a trusted gaming industry analyst projects PlayStation 6 to launch in 2028 and sell only four million units in its first calendar year on the market. When you consider that even PS3 managed to sell three and a half million units in a mere four months, well, it might be a tough row to hoe. And when you take into account that this analysis assumes PS6 will sell for between $600 and $800, Sony may be in for a rude awakening indeed. We discuss. Then again, other analysis paints a far rosier picture, at least as far as Grand Theft Auto VI pre-sales are concerned, where Sony will be raking it in by the many hundreds of millions in royalties alone. Other news this week includes EA's reversal on its controversial College Football 27 microtransactions, the dominance of Call of Duty: Black Ops I and II's PSN release, the delay of the upcoming first party fight stick FlexStrike, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is PlayStation in dire need of a spokesperson? Does Crunchyroll's new approach with its subscription portend a dicey future for PSN? Have we ever lent a physical game to a friend (or someone else) and never received it back? Could Episode 420 mean throwing all caution to the wind? Welcome to episode #283 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional! In this episode, we continue the discussion regarding the continued success of the BO1 and BO2 ports, as they continue to hit record numbers of concurrent players and sales, topping GTA VI as a trending game in the PSN store. This comes as no surprise to us, but the question is how long will this last? We give our opinions on the success of these ports, and if they will rival the MW4 playerbase. If this is the case, the path for Call of Duty going forward looks much different than anticipated. Does COD lean into these ports for the future, or do they simply take the feedback from these games and apply it to future titles? We then move onto a quick overview of the season 5 roadmap, with a fan favorite map returning that we feel just came a bit too late in the year. We give our thoughts on this, along with the connection between these fan-favorite map releases and them being used in the CDL, as it could make the competition that much more exciting. We close with our COD Champs predictions, as we come down to the arguably the biggest and most prestigious event for the players to win. What are your thoughts on the continued success of these ports? Should developers be taking notes on what made these games good and apply it to their future games, or do you want more ports/remasters of old CODs? Do you want to see these older fan-favorite maps return earlier, or are you done with playing BO7 at this stage in the year? Finally, what did you think about COD Champs as an event, and the winners and losers? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! This episode kicks off with a Kelly fact about one of America's strangest historical figures...
A lot can happen in a week's time! Now that the dust is settling and we have a rare quiet moment for Xbox, it's time to fully unpack the immediate results of Xbox's Reset. We've learned that multiple Zenimax owned studios have returned to their smaller sized around the mid 2010s. When you look across the industry at the various indie and AA success stories, one has to wonder if AAA is no longer just borrowing creative ideas from these parts and, instead, emulating their business structure. Is there a lesson to be learned in Expedition 33 reaching 8+ million copies sold with a team of around 30 people and their strategic form of outsourcing? What of the 10+ person team at Mega Crit that works on the indie hit Slay The Spire 2? Does the industry truly need its titanic teams across the board or should there be exceptions to that rule in cases such as Rockstar? The reality is that we won't know for years how any of this pans out, but it's a good thought exercise nonetheless! Welcome to episode #282 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional! In this episode, we start off with the news that we will finally be getting the long awaited MW4 multiplayer reveal trailer, coming on July 16th. We give our expectations on what questions we will have answered from this reveal, as well as knowing how the COD community will feel about what Infinity Ward shows us. This is coming off of a highly successful launch of the ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 for PS4 and PS5, and the question remains; will these ports end up having more players than MW4 at launch? We share our thoughts on this question, and the problem it may pose if this ends up being the reality. Along with this, we give our predictions for what the fate of these ports will end up being in the coming weeks and months. They most likely will lose their initial playerbase after the nostalgia wears off, and the focus will shift to the new title. There are many who disagree with this prediction, and that's the question we answer today. What are you expecting from this MW4 multiplayer reveal trailer? Do you think it will live up to the hype, or will it fall flat with the fans? What do you think of the BO1 and BO2 ports? Have you been playing them, and what are your thoughts on their longevity in 2026? Will old CODs take over as the main COD, skipping MW4 entirely, or will the nostalgia wear off? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Podcast, Deny Caballero sits down with Ruben Ayala, founder of Black Ops, to discuss a mission far bigger than a documentary. Together, they explore the importance of preserving the untold stories of minority Special Operations veterans, ensuring their sacrifices, leadership, and contributions become part of America's permanent historical record.Ruben shares the incredible journey of building Black Ops—from an idea sparked by one powerful moment into a national movement that includes a documentary series, an upcoming book, youth mentorship initiatives, and advocacy for greater recognition of overlooked heroes. This conversation is about more than military history. It's about leadership, representation, legacy, and inspiring future generations to understand that excellence knows no race, ethnicity, or background. Listen now. Follow the show. Welcome to episode #280 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional! In this episode, we start off with a review of one of the best co-op games we've ever played; Split Fiction. For those interested in the game, we give a breakdown of it, predictions for the series, and discuss what makes it so great from year to year, and how COD could learn from this. We then shift to talking about Warzone and Multiplayer coexisting, and if this is really the best path forward. We give our thoughts on the idea of these being separate entities, hopefully giving more focus on each instead of trying to blend ideas into both games. We then end with talks about Black Ops 1 and 2 ports coming to PS5, making these old CODs playable on modern consoles. Though there is lots of hype surrounding this, we are skeptical about this being a good move for COD, and potentially a worrying sign. We give our reasoning, and share our thoughts on who these ports are really for. Have you ever heard of and/or played Split Fiction? Do you have a history with co-op games, or do you mainly stick to single player and multiplayer games? What are your thoughts on multiplayer and Warzone having no connection to one another, and being treated as separate games? Finally, how excited are you for the Black Ops 1 and 2 ports? Do you see yourself playing them a lot, or are you going to be focused on Modern Warfare 4? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! PlayStation Network has once again been targeted by nefarious actors, this time exposing flaws in Sony's online infrastructure that we never even considered. If you've noticed weird games popping-up in your recently played list, titles that don't belong in your library, cluttered PSN widgets, and other oddities, you were affected. And while Sony seems to have begun to mend the issue, it feels like they're unable to accept their solemn corporate obligation to protect their customers. Will they ever even publicly admit their problems, nonetheless solve all of them? We discuss. Plus: Other news! Grand Theft Auto VI's pre-orders are imminent, rumors are circulating about a potential delay of PlayStation 6, Housemarque talks about its post-Saros future, Halo: Campaign Evolved's Trophies have been surreally revealed, Mark Hamill is set to appear in Twisted Metal's third season on Peacock, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is PlayStation at risk of losing its hard-earned prestige? Why aren't more at-risk studios sold instead of shuttered? Should Capcom get more credit for their runaway success with RE Engine? Will Dustin ever return to the show, or will Sacred forever move forward as a duo? Halo is on PlayStation. Let that sink in. On this one we get into Halo: Campaign Evolved — the full Unreal Engine 5 remake landing on PS5, Xbox and PC on July 28 — and why cutting the multiplayer to protect the "next mainline Halo" might be the dumbest part of the whole thing. Plus the AI controversy Halo Studios can't stop being squirrely about. Then it's GTA 6: pre-orders go live June 25, November 19 release, no PC version, and the $100 price question nobody wants to answer honestly. Spoiler: if you'll pay $70, you'll pay $100, and we explain exactly why. But the one we're actually hyped about is WARDOGS — Bulkhead addressed the "too arcadey" killcam feedback head-on instead of going quiet like every AAA studio does. We break down the ghillie-suit compromise, the hardcore servers, and why devs who actually play their own game are so rare right now. Lightning round: CoD 2026 bringing DMZ back as the third mode, Black Ops 1 & 2 hitting PlayStation, and where the extraction-shooter graveyard leaves Marathon. Jake's optimistic. Raz sees the greed trap coming. Same as always. 0:00 Intro — back in the saddle 1:31 It's all about shooters 2:27 WARDOGS & the killcam controversy 7:07 Can't have it both ways: the killcam debate 7:49 The ghillie suit & hardcore server compromise 15:56 Devs who actually play their own game 19:59 The greed trap: how good shooters get ruined 29:50 Halo: Campaign Evolved comes to PlayStation 30:54 Cutting multiplayer to protect the next Halo 33:23 Are you a Halo or a Call of Duty guy? 45:52 The Halo AI controversy 1:05:09 GTA 6 pre-orders are live 1:05:40 No PC version — the PC wait 1:10:35 The $100 question & CEO spin 1:13:31 If you'll pay $70, you'll pay $100 1:15:56 Lightning round: CoD 2026 & DMZ returns 1:17:12 Black Ops 1 & 2 hit PlayStation 1:23:40 Marathon & the extraction graveyard 1:28:30 Patreon, wrap-up & goodbye _Note: timestamps may be slightly misaligned on podcast apps (but not on YouTube) due to dynamic ads._ The podcast is available wherever you listen to podcasts, and ad-free & early access versions - as well as bonus episodes - are available to all of our Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/thedropshot) supporters.
