Ben Crewe is a professor of criminology at the University of Cambridge. He is one of the founding editors of the academic journal Incarceration and one of the series co-editors of the book series Palgrave Studies in Prisons and Penology. Ben is interested in all aspects of prison life, in particular the prisoner experience, staff-prisoner relationships, prison management, and the impact of political, economic, and cultural factors on the nature of imprisonment. His latest project called 'Penal policymaking and the prisoner experience: a comparative analysis' – or COMPEN for short – is of particular interest to us Scandinavians. It is a large-scale and multifaceted comparison of imprisonment in two different jurisdictions, namely England and Wales and Norway. Of course, over the last 15 years or so, Scandinavian prisons, and perhaps Norwegian prisons in particular, have received a lot of attention from international scholars. The ongoing debate around so-called Scandinavian penal exceptionalism has however lacked a proper comparative empirical grounding. Does it make sense to say that Scandinavian penal systems and prison conditions are 'exceptional'? After more than a decade of research, we are no closer to a final, definitive answer. Will Ben and his COMPEN project colleagues finally set things straight once and for all? PS: We had technical problems recording this episode. John Howe is Professor of Finance and holds the Missouri Bankers Chair in the Department of Finance at the University of Missouri – Columbia (MU). He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge (U.K.) and the Queensland University of Technology (Australia). John's research interests include behavioral economics/finance, corporate governance, and banking. He has published extensively in the major academic journals in finance and accounting. He has served on the board of directors of two startup companies, on the boards of a bank and its holding company, as well as on three non-profit boards. John has won numerous teaching awards. His team was driving new Antibody Discovery Programs and was also actively supporting Clinical Antibody Programs of Ofatumumab (CD20) (FDA approved 2009) and Daratumumab (CD38) (FDA approved 2015). From 1997-2008 Rene had various positions at Dyax and became V.P. Research and Operational Manager of Dyax sa. Rene and his team were driving internal Antibody Lead Discovery (in Dyax Liege Belgium and Cambridge US) as well as external collaborations and supporting out-licensing of Dyax antibody phage libraries. From the antibody phage libraries he developed at Dyax now 4 antibodies have been approved Ramucirumab (KDR), Lilly, 2014, Necitumumab (EGFR), Lilly, 2015, Avelumab (PDL-1) EMD Serono/Pfizer, 2017, and lanadelumab (kallikrein), Shire, 2018). In addition over 10 antibodies from this mAb library from various companies are still in clinical trial. Rene obtained his PhD at the Un. Nijmegen, the Netherlands and performed a post-doctoral study at the Un. Cambridge U.K.with Prof. G. Winter (nobel prize winner 2018). He contributed to over 40 scientific papers and is inventor on 20 patent /patent applications.

Randy is a serial entrepreneur, angel investor, philanthropist and educator, and “wine angel” who lives and works in the Bay Area. Randy currently coaches CEOs and is a Vistage Chair, overseeing a peer group of 16 growth-stage CEOs in the Bay Area. In 2011, Randy founded the philanthropic venture entity The Gratitude Network to mentor social entrepreneurs globally. Today the organization has nearly 70 volunteers and has worked with more than 80 high-impact entrepreneurs around the world. The organization's focus is on children and education. In 1997, Randy co-founded Outlook Ventures, a $200MM early-stage tech fund. The fund invested in 32 companies and had more than 20 IPO or A exits. Randy also created Haykin Capital in 2006 to provide “mentor capital” to early stage entrepreneurs and has funded over 30 angel deals to date. Prior to Gratitude and Outlook, Randy served as founding VP of Marketing & Sales at Yahoo and played early roles at Overture, NetChannel, Electric Minds, and AOL's Greenhouse program, a successful venture incubator. He has also held management roles at Apple Computer, Paramount/Viacom. In addition to teaching at Berkeley, as an Educator, Randy has taught courses on innovation, entrepreneurship and finance at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business as well as Cambridge U. Judge School of Business. Randy holds a BA in Organizational Behavior and Management from Brown University, magna cum laude, and an MBA from Harvard. Our doctrine of Scripture is extremely important and drives the discussion of practically all other topics. Since we hold Scripture to be our principium cognoscendi externum it is our rule by which we are to judge and interpret all other truth. There are, however, many issues surrounding the role of Scripture and our understanding of it, particularly as they relate to life in the church. We are pleased to welcome Iain D Campbell to speak about a covenantal approach to interpreting the Song of Solomon. Dr. Campbell wrote a wonderful article in the Spring 2000 issue of the Westminster Theological Journal on the subject and he brings his insights to the panel.
