This week James and Will are joined by Andy Schleck, Tour de France winner, brother to Frank and victim in the infamous chaingate affair, in which Alberto Contador rode past a stricken Schleck – the yellow jersey wearer having suffered a dropped chain – to snatch the 2010 Tour de France top step. Two years later, Schleck was retroactively awarded the win after Contador was banned for doping, but how does that sit with the 39-year-old Luxembourgish today? In a wonderfully candid chat, Schleck explains his thoughts then and now, plus what it meant to race with his brother, his special bond with teammates forged off the road, the doping scene in the early 2000s, his stunning 2009 Tour and his bittersweet experience in 2011, the injuries that led to retirement, the personal crisis he faced once he hung up his wheels, and what he really thinks about Bjarne Riis, Johan Bruyneel, Chris Froome and, of course, Christmas.Today, Andy Schleck runs several successful cycling shops in Luxembourg and is ambassador for the Kitzbüheler Radmarathon, a gruelling sportive that takes place in Austria in September 2025.----Did you know Cyclist is also stunning monthly print magazine? Send us a textWe've got a cycling industry and bike tech special for you this week on the podcast, as Factor CEO Rob Gitelis joins us to discuss the brand's history and the latest cutting-edge tech, before we take a closer (audio) inspection of the brand-new Scott Addict RC.In part one, Rob joins us from sunny Girona to chat about his journey from racing cyclist to working in Taiwan's fledgling carbon fibre bike manufacturing industry and making bikes for an array of famous brands.Rob then traces his journey to Factor, the company's own growth in recent years – which has seen it win grand tour stages and Olympic gold medals – and how it's been able to weather the storms of the bike industry's turbulent post-pandemic period. He also chats about that infamous Chris Froome bike set-up saga, his partnership with Israel-Premier Tech, the inevitable rise of disc brakes, and why the gold medal-winning track tech we saw in Paris – which Rob claims made the Aussies go three seconds faster – could soon be making its way to a road bike near you.And in part two, Dave gets up close and personal with the brand spanking new Scott Addict RC, the brand's new top-end climbing bike weighing in at a featherweight 5.9kg.Dave is joined by the bike's product designer Christian Holweck and lead engineer Max Koenen to discuss how you go about making such a light bike, while keeping it comfortable and throwing in a few nods to the aero watchers too.

Herzlichen Dank. Wie immer -> Bleibt' positiv. Eure Jan Ullrich Ultras.
This week on the Spin Cycle podcast, Caley, Jonny, and Kit kick off with an update on Tom Pidcock's dramatic transfer saga. It turns out he's going nowhere. Or is he? This whole situation adds to the growing narrative that INEOS is a difficult team to be on, as evidenced by Ethan Hayter's recent comments about the "weird environment." Despite the failed transfer, it sounds like there are a few other teams still interested in acquiring Pidcock, but it'll probably take a hefty buyout to pry him away from INEOS at this point.Next up, the crew discuss Chris Froome's shocking admission that he won't be vying for another Tour de France victory. It's tough to see a legendary athlete come to terms with the limitations of their body, but we admire Froome's honesty and grace in addressing the situation. We also take some time to discuss the UCI's exploration of budget caps within the WorldTour. Chris Marshall Bell, who broke the story for Escape Collective, joins to talk about the potential implications of these financial regulations. While there's no consensus on the matter yet, it's clear that the UCI is serious about addressing the financial disparities within the sport. And finally, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the tough news regarding Chris Hoy's health. His strength and positivity in the face of such a challenging diagnosis are truly inspiring, and we wish him and his family all the best.
This week James and Will are joined by Ned Boulting: commentator, pundit, author, stage performer, part-time comic and all-round superb raconteur. Ned talks about the 2011 season (the star of his new The Road Book 2011 almanac), from a knife-edge Tour de France with Cadel Evans snatching a last gasp victory, to a Vuelta a España that announced a rising star in the shape of Chris Froome. Conversation then turns to this year's Tour, from Cav's history-making win no.35 to the imperial form of Tadej Pogačar. All that plus Primož Roglič the unsung hero; Alberto Contador, the man who flew too close to the clenbuterol; Dave Brailsford, Ineos and United; and Ned's new touring one-man stage show, Ned's Marginal Mystery Tour – all about his love affair with an unearthed newsreel from the 1923 Tour de France.Chat with Ned begins at 8.34----The Road Book 2011 is out now, with essays from Chris Froome, Emma Pooley, Cadel Evans, Ned Boulting and many more. Edited by Andy McGrath. Order your copy here.Ned's Marginal Mystery Tour is touring nationwide from 22nd October to 20th November. Full Episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hj8DcLEc9g The video discusses the nuances of training strategies in endurance sports, particularly focusing on the balance between fasted training or carb-restricted training and the athlete's physiological profile. It emphasizes the importance of understanding an athlete's metabolic type (glycolytic vs. aerobic) and tailoring training accordingly to improve performance in specific events, such as long-distance races or multi-day stage races. The speaker highlights the differences in energy utilization between glycolytic and aerobic athletes during endurance rides and suggests that training zones should be based on VO2 rather than FTP to account for these variations. Furthermore, the discussion delves into the challenges faced by glycolytic athletes, using Marcel Kittel's Tour de France experiences as an example, to illustrate the heightened physiological demands they face, especially in situations like climbing and sprinting, compared to more aerobic-focused riders like Chris Froome. We're delighted to welcome a BIG guest to the GTCC today - G's boss and the head of INEOS, Sir Jim Ratcliffe! A huge cycling and sports fan, Jim is one of the most talked about men in the sporting world right now, following his investment into Manchester United. The INEOS Sport portfolio continues to grow and, over an hour and a cup of coffee in his Monaco office, Jim was more than happy to chat to Geraint and Tom about how he's ended up owning one of the world's largest cycling teams, an America's Cup sailing team, two other football clubs, a stake in the Mercedes F1 team, become a major sponsor of the All Blacks, and so much more. There's also an excellent anecdote about being crashed by Chris Froome - yes, really - plus a lot of chat about Jim's plans for returning United to the top of English and world football. We hope this gives you a great insight into Sir Jim and a better understanding of his sporting investments. Meanwhile G's straight back to work - this time in Catalunya, as he continues his prep for the Giro. We'll see you next week for the last GTCC of season four! Bike Talk with Dave: Bicycle racing, cyclocross, gravel, mountain bike, road and tech
Ian Boswell, aka Boz, spent several years racing at the highest level in the UCI World Tour with the likes of Bradly Wiggins, Chris Froome and Garaint Thomas on Team Sky. After nearly a decade in Europe, he made the decision to retire from road racing, move to rural Vermont and settle in with his young family. He kept a foot in the door of cycling and started a podcast: Breakfast with Boz as well as working at Wahoo Fitness, representing the company at gravel race expos around the U.S. and at one point, decided to bring his bike and line up in the event - and his legs did not fail him. In 2021 he and Laurens Ten Dam raced into Emporia Kansas at Unbound and Boz found himself standing on the top step of the podium. He now enjoys a balanced life racing in the events he chooses, representing Wahoo, publishing his podcast and enjoying time with his family in Vermont. One of the races he enjoys, and helped grow, is Gravel Locos. Fabian Sarralta, Director of that race, was a guest on Bike Talk with Dave (Episode 57) so I was curious what Boz's connection was with the Hico, Texas race. In this episode we talk about Ian's years at Team Sky and Katusha, his retirement from road racing and transition into the U.S. gravel scene. Merry Christmas GTCCers! G and Tom are back with a little festive bonus pod for you all to enjoy in the classic Christmas lull between the big day and New Year's Eve. Back at the start of December G spent some time with the charity Best Buddies and welcomed the founder of the charity, Anthony Kennedy Shriver, to the GTCC. Best Buddies is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Cam Wurf, Chris Froome, Magnus Sheffield and Tom Pidcock have all helped Best Buddies in the past and this year G was privileged to lend his own support to the charity. He spoke to Anthony about the charity's work and much more besides. We'll be back in early 2024 with some more brilliant guests on the GTCC. See you then. We last spoke to Chris Froome midway through 2021 on the GTCC and, well, a lot has happened since then! G thought it was time to get his old mate back on the pod for an update from Froomey. And when they caught up at the Best Buddies Camp in Malibu, Chris sounded as determined as ever - and ready to keep pushing hard out on the road in 2024. He also announced very exciting plans for a Chris Froome Academy in Africa (we think that's a GTCC exclusive...) and gave his thoughts on INEOS' current position three years after he left the team. What do you think - we will see Chris back at the sharp end of bike races again? We hope so. In other news, G is getting ready for INEOS' December Mallorca camp and has promised us he will make at least one GTCC Zwift ride while he's there. We would love you to join him - just search for GTCC Weekly Ride on Zwift, and we'll see you at 6pm UK time, every Wednesday. We'll be back next week - and all being well, we'll have one of our biggest guests yet. Watch this space. Music courtesy of BMG Music Production Learn more about your ad choices. Our latest episode features an exclusive, hard-hitting and sometimes confrontational interview with Israel-PremierTech boss Sylvan Adams. It's an encounter that's sure to create debate and shouldn't be missed. With the world's attention on the ongoing warfare in Israel, the Israeli-Canadian billionaire reveals the impact the conflict has had on his team and offers an extremely robust defence of his adopted country's military response to the horrific terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas. Adams challenges the suggestion that the IPT riders and staff might require more security when racing and training as a consequence of the hostilities and says that none of his riders have expressed concerns about appearing in IPT colours.Adams talks about how sport and particularly cycling could act as a means of reconciliation in the future, highlighting the ways that it can create mutual understanding. The Israel-PremierTech boss also discusses the situation of erstwhile team leader Chris Froome, offering his perspective on the four-time Tour de France winner's recent complaints about his bike set-up and adding that the British rider can still find a way back to the Tour if he can rediscover the necessary racing condition. Our second story is a focus on the Spanish doping investigation that has embroiled the Caja Rural team. Operation Ilex has already resulted in Miguel Ángel López first being released by Astana and then suspended, and now Spanish investigators have more riders in their sights. We detail the extensive background to this case and likely next steps. This podcast is brought to you with the support of our sponsor, Saddle Skedaddle. Support the show

As a world tour mechanic Filip Tišma has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the cycling. He's the man who gave his countryman Matej Mohorič the idea to use the dropper post in Milan-San Remo and has helped the likes of Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas to grand tour glory. Bobby and Jens find out exactly what a top level mechanic gets up to on a daily basis and discovers just how many bikes they have to build in a year (spoiler: it's a lot!), how their leader's bikes differ from the rest of the bunch and the incredible process that goes into building a one off bike when a rider wins a classification at a grand tour. Lance, JB, and George break down a fantastic stage win from Tadej Pogačar, who outsprinted Jonas Vingegaard atop the Col du Platzerwasel to cap off an extremely difficult stage 20 that took the riders over multiple categorized climbs of the Vosges mountains. The crew discuss Vingegaard's decision to sprint, Thibaut Pinot's aggressive racing in an attempt to contest the stage win on the last Tour de France mountain stage of his career, and a series of bad crashes along the way involving Sepp Kuss, David Gaudu and Carlos Rodríguez. Edvald Boasson Hagen has been one of the strongest riders in the peloton since he joined the world tour in 2008 with High Road. His surprise win at Gent-Wevelgem in 2009, stage win at the Giro, and powerful roleur style made him a key signing for the newly formed Team Sky in 2010. He won the team's first ever Tour de France stage, picking up two in 2011 and rode as a key domestique in part of both Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome's Tour de France wins in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He's also added 10 Norwegian time trial titles, four road titles, a world championship silver medal, a third Tour de France stage win, a pair of wins each at the Tour of Britain and the Eneco Tour and three more GC wins at the Tour of Norway. Now Edvald has set his sights on stage hunting for Team TotalEnergies at this year's Tour de France. This episode of Bobby and Jens is a Shocked Giraffe production for Velo. This episode was produced by Mark Payne and edited by Kirk Warner.
The shapeshifter of elite endurance sports, today's guest is by far one of the world's most remarkable all-around athletes. Meet Cam Wurf, an Aussie who has distinguished himself at the highest, most elite level, in three distinct sports. First in rowing where he represented Australia in the 2004 Athens Olympics. He then turned to professional cycling as a super domestique for Team Sky and now INEOS, where he played a crucial role in supporting guys like Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas, serving as a secret weapon to their Tour de France victories. Cam has simultaneously distinguished himself at the highest level of Ironman triathlon, collecting wins at IM Wales and IM Australia, and is most well known for setting and holding (until this past year) the bike course record at the IMWC in Kona. He can train and race with the best professional cyclists in the world, set bike course records at the world's most prestigious Ironmans, and even run a 2:45 marathon after a 2.4 mile swim and 112-mile bike. He doesn't seem to ever get tired. He absolutely loves training. And he's always smiling. So who is this guy? Like you, I have so many questions. And today Cam is here to answer them with an infectious enthusiasm I wish I could bottle. Enjoy! Kilometre 0 Richie and Chris kicks off a seven-part mini series focusing on the 2013 Tour de France. To mark the 100th edition of the race, the Tour headed to Corsica for the grand départ. Lionel Birnie spoke to former teammates Chris Froome and Richie Porte about the race. Froome led Team Sky for the first time having been runner-up to Bradley Wiggins the previous year. Wiggins was somewhat controversially – although perhaps not surprisingly – left out of the line-up a few weeks before the start. There was drama from the start. On day one Froome crashed in the neutralised zone before the race had even started, then the Orica-GreenEdge team bus got stuck under the finish line gantry, almost bringing the entire Tour to a standstill. Froome laid down the gauntlet in the Pyrenees when, for 24 hours, everything looked to be going Sky's way. Then there was a date with Mont Ventoux, a double-ascent of Alpe d'Huez and some nervous moments in the final few days. The rest of the series The 100th Tour, 10 years On is the story of that 2013 race as told by The Cycling Podcast. We've delved into our archive to revisit the first Tour the podcast covered. The remaining six episodes will be released for Friends of the Podcast subscribers from Tuesday to Thursday. Our Kilometre 0 series for the 2023 Tour de France will be available to Friends of the Podcast subscribers. Sign up at thecyclingpodcast.com. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by Rapha Well, here we are back with one of our biggest episodes for the year! I'm really excited to bring this one to life - it's not every day that you get a chance to chat with one of the all-time greats of the sport. With seven Grand Tour wins to his name, including four Tour de France victories, he is indisputably one of the best cyclists of our era. I'm talking, of course, about the legend himself, Chris Froome. Just after the TDU in January, I sat down with Froomey to talk about his incredible career, and take a deep-dive into the tactics behind his impressive win in the 2018 Giro d'Italia. I was really excited to get the chance to chat in depth with Froomey. He is, of course, a seven-time Grand Tour winner, including four Tour de France wins, two Vuelta a España wins, and one Giro d'Italia win - but his career has been plagued by rumours and unfair treatment, which I was really keen to discuss with him. And whatever your personal opinion of Froomey is, he's inarguably one of the greatest Grand Tour riders in modern cycling, and in my personal opinion, one of the greatest cyclists of all time. He's also a great bloke, but it's a side to him that not many people get close enough to know. After so many years in the pro peloton, I knew Froomey a bit, and I also know him by reputation through a few close cycling friends that we share. Even though the guy is as professional and polished as they come, I knew from his reputation that there was also another side to him - he's not just Chris Froome the multiple Tour de France and Grand Tour winner, he's also a super nice guy, pretty quietly spoken and unassuming, and even a little bit badass at times (thanks to Daryl Impey for the background stories). So for this episode, I was really keen to go behind the mask, to uncover that other side to the guy that seems almost superhuman, and sometimes so efficient that he's methodical and even a bit robotic in bike races. We chatted about how he got his start in cycling, and what it was like growing up riding a bike in Kenya. We delved into how he made the leap from Africa, to racing in Europe. And we really got stuck into chatting about that epic stage during the 2018 Giro d'Italia, where he tore the legs off everyone in the race (mine included), and absolutely dominated the fearsome Monte Zoncolan, to come from behind on the GC and take the Maglia Rosa and eventually the overall win. And of course, we spoke about the controversy that has plagued him throughout his incredibly successful career, and what it felt like to be booed, harassed, and even assaulted, day after day, on the already intensely difficult stages and climbs of the Tour de France. I really loved sitting down with Froomey and hearing from the man himself. Learning more about the trajectory that his career took, and the unbelievable highs that he was able to reach, made for a really fascinating chat. I hope you enjoy getting to know the man, and not just the myth and the legend, as much as I did, and I hope it inspires you to look at this great champion in a new light. ... Bobby and Jens catch up with the greatest grand tour rider of his generation Chris Froome to get the inside track on some of his greatest ever moments on the bike. Here the last minute change of plan that won him the 2019 Giro, why he targeted the descent off the Col de Peyresourde in 2016 and what it meant to him when his old teammate Richie Porte finally made the podium in 2020. Bobby and Jens is a Shocked Giraffe production for Velonews. This episode was produced by Mark Payne and edited by Tim Mossa.
It's Wrestlemania on this week's podcast as we dig into the stunning victory of Jonas Vingegaard over Chris Froome at the Singapore Criterium. Then, of course, it's time to talk Tour de France. The routes were announced last week and we have thoughts. Perhaps this is the first year we can cover it with an electric car?
