We have all been created by God to fulfill a purpose on earth. The Apostle Paul understood that his purpose was to preach the Gospel in Rome and to Caesar. While being transported as a prisoner to Rome, the ship was hit by a fierce storm that threatened to destroy it and all those on board. An angelvisited Paul and assured him that all aboard would live and that he would in fact stand before Caesar. Miraculously, everyone on the ship survived as the Angel foretold, and they ran aground on the island of Malta. There, Paul was miraculously protected when bitten by a venomous viper, opening the door for him to preach the gospel to the natives and all who witnessed it.Jerrick RiveralFriday, June 27, 2025 Live at 7:00 PM

Welcome to the Sacred Stream Radio Podcast. I'm your host, Laura Chandler, and on today's episode, I speak with Tibetan Buddhist nun, Venerable Ani Choyang. Ani is part of a distinguished group of Tibetan nuns on the path to earning the highest degree in Buddhist Philosophy—an honor that, until recently, was reserved exclusively for men. Her academic achievements extend beyond traditional studies into the realm of Western science. In this conversation, Ani shares the powerful story of her escape from Chinese-occupied Tibet, where she spent her early years working in a factory with limited access to education. She speaks about the challenges and triumphs of learning the Tibetan language and discovering Tibetan culture for the first time at age 18. We also explore her inspiring academic journey and her unwavering commitment to expanding educational opportunities for nuns and women alike. Ani Choyang was the first nun from Tibet to be awarded the prestigious Tenzin Gyatso Science Scholarship from Emory University in Atlanta. She has also completed an internship in neuroscience at Northwestern University and is currently involved in a groundbreaking research project on lucid dreaming and dream yoga. Ani is a resident nun and science teacher at Jangchub Choeling Nunnery in Mundgod, India. She also serves as the Coordinator of the Library and Learning Center, a new facility under development at the nunnery that will offer nuns a comprehensive education in both Buddhist studies and Western subjects.

While you may know the Brooklyn Museum for its wildly popular cutting-edge exhibitions, the borough's premier art institution can actually trace its origins back to a more rustic era -- and to the birth of the city of Brooklyn itself. On July 4, 1825, the growing village laid a cornerstone for its new Brooklyn Apprentices Library, an educational institution to support its young "clerks, journeymen and apprentices." This was a momentous occasion in the history of Brooklyn, a ceremony overseen by the Marquis de Lafayette and observed by a young boy named Walt Whitman. The library was part of a movement -- started a century before by Benjamin Franklin-- to make knowledge readily available within the young country. The Brooklyn Museum's celebratory new exhibition Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200 looks back at its storied origins and eventual growth, encompassing most of the young city's cultural institutions and soon expanding into a monumental new home next to the new Prospect Park, designed by McKim, Mead and White.Abigail Dansiger, the Director of Libraries and Archives, and Meghan Bill, the Coordinator of Provenance, join Greg on this week's show to explain the unusual origins of the Brooklyn Museum and the unique philosophies which inform its exhibitions.PLUS: A couple genuine mysteries lurk within the new exhibition, including a bottle-shaped niche within the cornerstone and an Egyptologist's unencrypted notebook. This episode was edited by Kieran Gannon

We have published 120 episodes since 2019. For this new season, we thought it would be a good idea to look back on some of the highlights of our conversations and select 20 episodes that resonated with veterans, service members, military families, and the civilians who support them. But first up, you'll hear from some of the folks at Home Base who wake up every day with the same mission in mind, no matter what they do at the Center of Excellence in the Navy Yard and beyond. For this episode, you will hear a brief conversation with Marc Moyer, a U.S. Army Veteran who served with the 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq and is now a Veteran Outreach Coordinator at Home Base. Following my conversation with Marc, you'll hear an episode featuring Bonnie Carroll, a retired major in the Air Force Reserve and founder of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, also known as TAPS. This organization has created a vital support network for those mourning the loss of a military loved one. Many thanks to Marc Moyer for all his work at Home Base in support of this mission to stomp stigma and treat the invisible wounds of veterans and military families.Run To Home Base: Join Ron and his team and sign up individually or on another team at the 16th annual Run To Home Base on July 26th, 2025, at Fenway Park!
