Yes, so I figured out at a very young age, if I wanted more from life, I was going to have to be a little bit different to everybody else. I think I was 11 years old and there was a bicycle that I remember wanting. It was 200 pounds in England. I lived in England and at the time, I think my allowance was like one pound a week. So it was 200 weeks to get that bike, which for an 11-year-old was a complete impossibility. So I realized that if I was going to have the things I wanted in life, I was going to have to do things a little bit different. So that's kind of where it started. So I grabbed a sponge and a bucket and started going knocking on people's doors, saying, hey, I washed your car for five pounds. And then I started offering to cut their grass. And before too long, I had the bicycle that I wanted. So that's kind of where it all started out. And it's just kind of grew up. I always had that entrepreneurial bug. So I've always been looking to own businesses and grow businesses just simply because that's what you have to do if you want a little bit more out of life, right? That's right. So you had an early start, which is great, because there is a book which talks about the entrepreneurial life cycle and how all the major entrepreneurs had to put in at least 15 years to break through. And when they started early in their teens, then obviously they could be these kid wonders breaking through in their 20s. But there's always this 15-year thing. So OK, so that was your beginning. And how did you get here, where you are right now? Was it straight from washing cars to coming up with the marketing plans? So, yeah, I had varying degrees of success in my entrepreneurial projects. And I think it was around 2009, I was in the UK and my wife's Australian and we were looking to get married, we wanted to get married and I applied for a marriage visa and I got turned down because I had no money, I had no income at the time, my businesses were not doing very well at all and that kind of woke me up a little bit. I was forced to get a job in order to meet the requirements of a marriage visa and it happened to be in a marketing agency. It's a long story but I ended up getting a job in a marketing agency and I got to see how all of these businesses, I think there was a hundred, a hundred and fifty businesses, there was a huge number of businesses that I had access to what they were doing and I could see what was working and I could see what was not working and had a privileged look at seeing what was going on from the inside. So I started working with some of my friends' businesses on the side. I had a friend that started a business and we took that to, I think it was around a half a million dollars in six or ei...

Everyone is so busy they're sending messages that are dense and hard to navigate.   The messages Cody sends taps into clients' biggest existing desires. You need to figure out what they want before sending an outreach message.  The goal is to get the person to engage so don't ask too much in the first email. In this initial email you only need the prospect to raise their hand and say yes!  The second email provides the overwhelming your solution is what they need and you offer a very low key call to action.  In all your communication, what you are looking for is to mitigate potential objections to get the outcome that you want.  Go to Reddit, Quora, and other forums if you're not entirely familiar to get more acquainted with people who fall in your niche. In forums, you don't have to present the answer, you just need to ask the question. Ask questions pertaining to your brand and niche to really narrow down the interests of your target audience. You also need to understand the questions people are asking.  The people reading your outreach message shouldn't be able to answer with, “So what?” It should be a message that requires a Yes or a No.  Keep it simple and benefit-driven. At maximum, an outreach message should be two sentences long. Don't let it sound like  you're deciding for them. And here we are early-August and as much as things are still uncertain and crazy and changing almost daily, opportunities are everywhere! Well this month has been about digging deeper into Cody's "3-Tips" with last week's podcast being about communication and as he said, "Get your Communication Right!" So... did you? Last week's social media posts were about reviewing, listening and checking in on your internal and external communication.  You'll have to listen in to hear two quick stories about a client and a listener who contacted me about what they've done and how the panDAMNIT has affected them.  SHIT HAS CHANGED PEOPLE! Well, in this week's podcast I share an article from the World Economic Form published in June about how COVID has affected advertising and prices have fallen... and how some industries are taking advantage of not just the discounted prices, but the new way to COMMUNICATE to their customers.  So, this week, not that advertising is the right or wrong thing for you... but at least look into what you have, and haven't tried! What's worked. What's not... and well because SHIT IS DIFFERENT! And after all, ADVERTISING IS COMMUNICATION! I had the privilege to talk with an amazing business consultant and marketing mentor, Cody Butler! It was very timely as you know the last few week's podcasts have been about TAKING STEPS no matter how uncertain you or "things" are, making mistakes and, SLOW DOWN to SPEED UP! And, I've shared some of my own personal mistakes, like when I was hurrying, didn't ask the right questions and my website got taken down because I wanted to make a change and install a plugin and didn't ask the person on the other end of the "help chat" the right questions. I asked NO questions, just said YES and tapped my foot while I was looking at "what's next". NOT GOOD! The fire hose is on... some of my clients are back in business and I've had some others sign up, so I was just drinking from the fire hose and it cost me a lot of time! And, luckily they were able to reload my website... but again... TIME (and a lot of panic!) So, like I mentioned in last week's podcast, SLOW DOWN! Take some time to THINK through things, ask questions, hell write down questions before you get on a call or into a meeting so you can be more productive and efficient with your time and others. And, then this week, as I mentioned Cody Butler is on with me as he gives you 3 TIPS (and a bonus!) TO SEE IMMEDIATE GROWTH or ACTION in these uncertain times.  It was a fun interview and with him being in Australia, I was glad we could find a time that worked for us.
