Continuing their episode cycle discussing films related to "Audience Interrogation", Emilio, Julian and Madeline strap on their masks, observe social distancing guidelines, and harken back to the recent past with 'Eddington', Ari Aster's darkly comedic Neo-Western and one of 2025's more polarizing and thought-provoking releases. In true lockdown fashion, the cohosts are joined by virtual guest Mariquita Reese, a top-shelf cinema fangirl and cohost of Post Film Clarity, to dig into the film and how it made them feel. The group shares their 2020 experiences and the aspects of that time the film captured, how 'Eddington' compares to other recent films that address Covid and quarantine, the performative nature of almost every character, the biggest (uncomfortable) laughs the film elicited, the unsettling fate of Michael, what to make of the film's violent third act, what other movies 'Eddington' reminds them of and why, and much more!Follow Mariquita on IG, Tik Tok and Letterboxd at keeta_babe - and check out Post Film Clarity, her podcast with cohost Lindsey Strickland, at postfilmclaritypodIf you enjoy our podcast, please rate and review us on your podcast platform of choice. Alas, we have neared the end of our exclusive "FEMALE" August season, and we've taken this chance to usher in this close with a special guest. Laura and Ryan know next to nothing about the work of John Waters, which is both abhorrent and indicative of our glaring ignorance. That's why we invited Josh, who basically said we should have invited someone else if we wanted to talk about John Waters. Either way, enjoy this deepish dive into FEMALE TROUBLE and the revelation we'll be uncovering far more of his work in the future!

He's LA's most feared agony columnist—and possibly its biggest De Sade fan. He wants to hurt you in the ways that most help you, and it means the world to him when you let him be mean to you. It's Ask a Sadist, a long-time fixture on Emerson Dameron's Medicated Minutes. And these are a few of his greatest hits. The boundaries between cruelty and kindness blur in this provocative exploration of ethical sadism. Our host—self-described as having "a heart of rugged gold"—dismantles conventional morality to reveal how acknowledging our darker impulses might lead to more authentic, fulfilling lives."I like to hurt people in the ways that most help them," our host declares, establishing a philosophical framework where inflicting pain (with enthusiastic consent) becomes an act of profound kindness. This paradox forms the foundation for addressing listeners' diverse relationship challenges, from long-distance romance to workplace sexual politics. When a listener describes their long-distance relationship struggles, our host reframes it as "an exquisite form of torture" with potential for growth rather than merely a problem to solve. This perspective transforms relationship challenges into opportunities for deeper self-understanding and personal evolution. The episode takes a fascinating turn examining power dynamics in the workplace when addressing a young professional labeled "too sexy" by her female boss. Rather than offering standard harassment advice, our host provides an insightful analysis of unacknowledged desires and power plays, suggesting that understanding these dynamics gives the listener unexpected leverage. Most provocatively, the recurring claim that "rough sex can save the world" isn't mere shock value but represents a coherent philosophy arguing that our repressed desires for dominance and submission, when denied healthy expression, manifest as destructive forces in society. By acknowledging and channeling these desires in consensual contexts, we might create more honest, less harmful expressions of our fundamental nature."Suffer like you mean it," our host advises, suggesting that deliberate engagement with discomfort yields greater insights than avoiding pain altogether. This challenges the modern obsession with comfort, proposing instead that a meaningful life emerges from embracing the full spectrum of human experience—darkness included.Ready to explore your own darkness? CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NERVOUS BREAKDOWN(IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME)Your self-sabotage has better timing than a cosmic laugh track, and your emotional baggage would make Marie Kondo have an existential crisis. How long has Todd McFarlane been teasing a new Spawn movie? It seems like it has been at least a decade. Do his latest comments mean anything? Sticking with comic books, we discuss the adaption of the controversial Garth Ennis book, Crossed. Is the name being attached to it the perfect match or overkill? Plus, Predator: Killer of Killers new.One of the wildest films we have ever covered on our humble little podcast is All Jacked Up and Full of Worms. We were not exactly sure of what to think once it was over, but we knew we liked it. We also could not wait to see what writer-director Alex Phillips was going to do next.Anything That Moves is a psychosexual dark comedy about a bike courier sex worker who is living his best life until a serial killer begins killing the people he loves. It sounds straightforward, but it is a bonkers all over the place experience. It is a stylish watch that will definitely not be for everyone. Our feature presentation has a great set up. Lena wakes up in a moving trailer. She has no idea how she got there or where she is going. A voice comes over a speaker and lets her know that she has been infected and they are taking her to get cured. It starts with a sense of mystery.Like sports, movies are not about how you start, but you how finish. It is unfortunate that Hellcat is unable to take advantage of this premise. There is too much going on, but somehow the movie still has nothing to say. The twists are nonsensical and the characters are not as compelling as they need to be. Lukas will außerdem noch einmal seine Empfehlung von "Food for the Soul", besonders an Julian, aussprechen. Dieser hat zumindest seine andere Empfehlung "A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof" geschaut, was seine Überraschung der Season war. Yuri, Dark Comedy und eine gute Produktion. Was will man mehr. "My Hero Academia: Vigilantes" bekommt die Auszeichnung "gut", der wahre Geheimtipp diese Season ist aber "Apocalypse Hotel". Melancholische Momente werden verknüpft mit absurder Comedy und jede Folge hält eine Überraschung parat. Im kurzen Überblick der ganzen Season wird aber klar, dass gerade die Action-Serien doch eher enttäuschend waren und viele andere auch nicht ganz die Qualität bis zum Ende halten konnten.

Zac and Jay sit down with Dave Manheim – creator of Dopey, the darkly hilarious and deeply moving podcast about “drugs, addiction, and dumb sh*t,” or as he now calls it, “the dark comedy of drug addiction.” What began as two friends swapping war stories has grown into a full-blown cultural force, with a diehard community, celebrity guests, and an archive of the funniest, most heartbreaking, and most brutally honest stories in the recovery world.Dave talks about launching Dopey just four months into sobriety with his late co-host Chris, the tragedy that reshaped the show, and why humor – especially the twisted kind – is a lifeline. He opens up about chasing guests like Marc Maron, Boy George, and Jason Biggs (and getting ghosted), his complicated feelings about being called “Dopey Dave,” and how working at Katz's Deli taught him more about recovery than any rehab ever did. They get into podcast beefs, the sad reality of grief that often shadows recovery, the great weed debate, and what happens when someone who never set out to “help people” accidentally does just that – over and over again. Dave's smart, incredibly earnest and very, very funny. If you've ever been told “once a junkie, always a junkie,” if you've experienced unexpected loss in recovery, or if you believe this addiction stuff is heavy enough and that humor is an essential ingredient in getting through it – please give this episode a watch or listen.Link to Dave's podcast: Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug AddictionConnect with Zachttps://www.instagram.com/zwclark/https://www.linkedin.com/in/zac-c-746b96254/https://www.tiktok.com/@zacwclarkhttps://www.strava.com/athletes/55697553https://twitter.com/zacwclarkIf you or anyone you know is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact Release:(914) 588-6564releaserecovery.com@releaserecovery

Hey Horror Fans!!!This week we are joined by David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, the filmmakers (and real life couple) behind I Don't Understand You, a sharp and offbeat dark comedy about an American couple navigating the adoption process while on vacation in Italy. As tensions rise and misunderstandings multiply, the film explores what it means to stay connected when everything around you starts to fall apart...and turn murderous!!We talk with David and Brian about drawing from their own journey toward parenthood, how they approached the story's unique mix of humor and discomfort, and why they wanted to center a queer couple whose love isn't in question. We also get into the pitch perfect performances from Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells, the grounding warmth of Amanda Seyfried, and the joy of working with Italian legend Nunzia Schiano. Funny, tense, tender, violent and totally original, this is a conversation you wont want to miss about love under pressure, identity abroad, and the messy beauty of trying to be understood sooo....COME HANG OUT!!!Follow Us on Social Media:Instagram & Threads: @mostlyhorrorpodTikTok & Twitter/X: @mostlyhorrorSteve: @stevenisaverage on all socialsSean: @hypocrite.ink on IG/TikTok, @hypocriteink on Twitter/XEnjoy this episode? Randy welcomes comedian Tommy Mitchell back to the show. They kick off the episode talking about getting injured in the kitchen. The boys scheme on ways you can get a college education without paying for it. Tommy discusses how, back in the day, showing any vulnerability as a man was not masculine and made you seem "gay". Randy talks about the concept of a joke being “too soon”. They move on to discuss toxic masculinity and why there isn't such a thing as toxic femininity. Tommy asks Randy about being retired in his 30's and what it really takes financially to be happy. The fellas discuss the absurdity of the institution of marriage. Tommy reasserts his love for musical theater. They wrap up with the news - Male birth control has arrived, a man died from masturbating too much, and UCLA scientists may have cured baldness. Comedian Alex Kumin joins us for a raw, funny, and deeply honest conversation about trauma, healing, and the comedy world. Alex talks about navigating stand-up as a woman, teaching at Chicago's Lincoln Lodge, and what it was like to work in sexual violence prevention before comedy. We go deep into how sexual trauma shaped her early life and relationships, how she uses therapy and psychedelics for healing, and the very real struggle of trying to make dark material work on stage. This episode covers heavy topics like childhood sexual trauma, so please take care and listen when you're ready. We also laugh (a lot) about bad sex-ed, weird comedy audiences, and the eternal quest for good nail art.Check out Alex's podcast Into the Mud and follow her at @alex.kumin. This is a public episode. The Surfer is one of those movies that comes around once in a few years that seems like it is a basic thriller but has so much more going on. Straight out of Dublin, Ireland, Director Lorcan Finnegan and writer Thomas Martin craft a thriller that moves towards midnight dark comedy about The Surfer (Nicolas Cage) who desperately wants to buy his childhood home on a beach in Australia. Locals aren't thrilled about this and thus the psychedelic deep search for sanity begins. I loved it and am encouraging everyone to see it as soon as they can. If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more! Also, I decided to dabble in making my own slasher film entitled “Bishop's Day”. Check out the Instagram page for updates.
