A real Christian is not someone who simply says they know about Jesus but is someone who has a personal experience of Jesus. There is a very big difference to being a Christian in name and being a Christian in reality. And that is the big theme that the apostle John focusses on in the five chapters of 1 John. John writes about many ‘anti-Christs who have come' (1 John 2:18) so he wants people to know how to recognise and know the real Jesus, outlining several key truths about Jesus. 1. Jesus is God who came to Earth (John 1:1-2,14; 1 John 1:1-3; 1 John 4:2-3). 2. Jesus is the Son of God (John 20:31; 1 John 3:23; 1 John 4:15; 1 John 5:5) 3. Jesus is the saviour of the world (1 John 2:1-2; 1 John 3:16; John 3:16) 4. Jesus is coming again (1 John 2:28; Acts 1:9-11; Revelation 22:12) Apply 1. Jesus is God who came to Earth. Christianity is rooted in real history in real time. Jesus is a real person who was born in Israel 2000 years ago in the time of Roman rule. He was an observant Jew who became a well-known rabbi for His healing and teaching ministry in the region of Galilee. He suffered and was crucified under Pontius Pilate and His resurrection caused an explosion of Christian belief throughout the Roman empire. These are the facts of history, but who was Jesus? That's the question that caused great debate in the first century and continues to do so today. So, the apostle John wanted everybody to be clear who Jesus was (John 1:1-2,14; 1 John 1:1-3). The Greek word for Word refers to Jesus Christ, the eternally existing second person of the Trinity. In other words, John was not only saying that Jesus was God in human form walking on this earth, but also that he and the other disciples had firsthand experience of the eternal God being with them at a particular moment in time. They had seen Him and touched Him. To know Jesus is first to understand that God is great and Almighty way up in the heavens, and also that He came down to earth. He is called Emmanuel which means ‘God with us'. Knowing that Jesus came in the flesh is a sign of a real Christian (1 John 4:2-3). 2. Jesus is the Son of God. John explained that he wrote his gospel so people would believe in Jesus and have life through Him. (John 20:31). In his first epistle John states that it is a God given command to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that this is a sure sign that someone is truly connected to God (1 John 3:23; 1 John 4:15; 1 John 5:5). Of course, other religions may believe and proclaim that Jesus was a prophet but as Christians we believe and proclaim what the first apostles proclaimed, and that Jesus was more than a prophet: He was and is the Son of the God (see: CS Lewis ‘Mere Christianity' and Bono from U2 references on Jesus being the Son of God). 3. Jesus is the saviour of the world (1 John 2:1-2; 1 John 3:16; John 3:16). What John is saying is that God loves all people, of all colours, from all cultures, all nations and all religious backgrounds. He loves Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, atheists and Christians. He loves you and He loves me. Jesus died on the cross to pay the sins of the whole world. John here is giving us reassurance that Jesus is in our corner petitioning for us to the Father. He is our advocate. So don't allow yourself to feel guilty for your sins but come and confess your sins and receive the forgiveness that Christ offers to us when we trust and believe in Him. 4. Jesus is coming again (1 John 2:28). There are many references in the New Testament to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, all promising that He will return to earth with great power and glory. John was with the disciples when Jesus ascended to Heaven and was promised to return (Acts 1:9-11). Today the return of Jesus is much closer than we know so we need to get ready (Revelation 22:12). So how confident are you that you will be ready to meet Jesus on that day? How confident are you that your sins are washed away? Today we must ask ourselves, do we really know Jesus? Well, if you are not sure, this your moment to get to know Him personally. Right now, you can have an encounter with Jesus.

Heaven and Earth— John sees a vision of a “new heaven and a new earth,” replacing the current, fallen creation. The holy city, the New Jerusalem, descends from heaven, and God takes up His dwelling place among His people. This future reality where God wipes away every tear, abolishes death, and eliminates sorrow and pain is a powerful image of hope and restoration. Today, we explore how this ultimate hope of eternal communion with God shapes our lives now, offering peace and purpose in the midst of a world marred by struggle. The Rev. Steven Theiss, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Wells, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Revelation 21:1-27. Shrouded in mysterious visions of cosmic battles, plagues, and catastrophic events, the Apocalypse of St. John, or as it's more commonly known--the Book of Revelation, paints a haunting picture of the end times. Cryptic symbols of beasts, the rise of the Antichrist, and the final judgment unfold with unsettling intensity, revealing the ultimate clash between good and evil. Yet, beneath its terrifying imagery, Revelation is also a deeply personal letter, offering comfort to early Christians facing persecution. It reassures them—and believers today—of God's control over history, His promise of redemption, and the certainty of Christ's victory. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. After 15 years as a Television Producer and Cameraman for CBS News, RAI and ZDF John began to study ecology. In the mid-1990's he began a participatory process with a number of media and broadcasting colleagues in Beijing that led to the creation of the Environmental Education Media Project for China (EEMPC). He has directed the EEMPC (now the EEMP) from its beginning. The EEMPC has distributed over 1000 environmental films in China since then. The EEMPC also helped found the “China Environment and Sustainable Development Reference and Research Center (CESDRRC) and the China HIV/AIDS Information Center (CHAIN). Over the years their activities have broadened beyond China to include the entire world and to include the production of environmental and ecological films. The name was shortened to Environmental Education Media Project (EEMP) when they were asked to work in other countries. From 2003 – 2006 John was a visiting fellow with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of the West of England, In 2006 he was named the Rothamsted International Fellow for the Communication of Science, from 2010 – 2013 John was a Senior Research Fellow for IUCN. In 2013 he received the Communications Award from the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), “Green Gold” a film about his work produced by the VPRO won a Prix Italia award. “Hope in a Changing Climate” was named the best ecosystem film by the International Wildlife Film Festival and won several other honors. He currently also serves as ambassador for the Commonland Foundation.
Modern humans aren't known for our patience. We think, if we slow down we're going to miss out on something. We're afraid other people are making more, doing more, seeing more, locking up those tickets to the Taylor Swift concert. The truth is that most of the things we're missing out on are the things we're racing past.Wildlife filmmaker John Aitchison is in the business of slowing things down. Literally and metaphorically. He's out in the wild for 140 days a year sitting quietly just to capture a few minutes in the life of some of the most amazing creatures on earth. His philosophy is simple. You can't protect something you don't love and you can't love something you don't know. He's spent his life and career trying to get as many people as he can to know, love and protect the natural world. Here's John in conversation with Will Travis, founder of Elevation Barn, along with a global community who knows that real understanding only comes with time.

There are some wild ideas about who God is in our world right now. The Apostles Creed was written to guard the beauty, serious, and scriptural traits of who God is. Like and share! Have a blessed day! Sermon notes The Creed matters: Repetition is how you learn things. Shoutout to Pastor Marc Donaldson at Marvin and JD Walt for sharing this last week at Core worship. - God created, therefore he wants us to enjoy what he created. - God is Almighty because we don't deserve ANYTHING, but He gives us life anyway (cf John 1:3). - God is the Father because the Bible reveals Himself to be and people have experienced such. Any experience of God starts with His Word.
John 17:1-4 ESV When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. I GLORIFIED YOU ON EARTH After explaining more about the coming of the Holy Spirit and looming persecution thereafter (John 16:4–15), Jesus now begins to pray. Jesus submitted to the timeline given Him by God the Father in His earthly ministry. Jesus expressed here about His patience until "the hour" when God's ultimate purpose for Jesus' earthly life would be fulfilled. He did not display His power either in the wrong way or at the wrong time (Matthew 4:1–11; John 2:4), did not control the urgings of the people (John 6:15), did manage how and when people should proclaim Him (Matthew 16:20; John 7:6), and even determined His capture by His enemies (John 7:30; 8:20). In other words, He was always subservient to the Father's will. His sole purpose was to bring glory to God with His sacrifice enacting the means of salvation by grace through faith (John 12:27–33). This is the only way man can be reconciled to God. He offered eternal life to all but is effectual to “all whom you[Father] have given him.” [see John 6:37] He wants us to know [have an intimate relationship] God the Father, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you[the Father] have sent. But, this knowledge comes only to the truly repentant and has genuine faith.[Eph 2:8] By claiming “I glorified you on earth', Jesus has indicated that He's now finished with the work He was tasked to do. This might seem surprising, given that He has not yet endured death (John 18:37). This implies that His determination to endure the cross was undeterred. His humility, indeed, became the basis of His request for exaltation as before. Jesus has this glory ‘before the world existed', so that, His eternal existence is affirmed. Paul beautifully summarized this remarkable ‘emptying of Himself to become a servant' that leads to His --------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube and Facebook

Today on the podcast, we have book editor, author, professional encourager and just all around amazing human, Amanda Cleary Eastep. I got to meet Amanda several years ago at a writing conference when she was part of a panel representing Moody Publishing. During this conversation she shares what it's like to be a book editor at Moody Publishers, as well as a middle-grade books author, which means she writes books for kids ages 8-12, and we look at what draws us as people to stories that captivate children and adults alike with their unique humor, whimsy, wonder, fun and freedom. We talk quite a bit about the concept of the moral imagination, and how stories can touch parts of us and unlock parts of our imagination and our faith, how we engage good and evil and more. The master of this process is Jesus Himself. His stories affect us emotionally, intellectually, and hold space for us to place ourselves in a story and decide who we will be because of it. Amanda is such a kind and wise woman who is still figuring out how to surrender her life and her dreams to Jesus, and I loved getting to hear how modeling honesty, humility, and just imperfectly but persistently expressing love to the kids in your life matters more than we know. As a Mom, step-Mom, working Mom, and all the things, I love Amanda's reminder that kids may bear witness to some of your greatest failures, but they also can have a front row seat to grace and redemption in your life and that's a story they need to know. I also appreciate how Amanda brought up how to engage kids who are NOT readers with stories whether that's about discussing movies, stories of people in your family or historical stories from where you're from or somewhere they're not, we are surrounded by stories that can engage the hearts and faith of kids. We also round out this episode with my daughter coming on, again, to interview “Ms. Amanda,” and it's sweet and hilarious to hear our girl's insights. Amanda very patiently talked with NB and me about her real life experiences with tornados, feelings and faith and it's just the sweetest. That's right it's not just another episode with John but this time he came loaded after getting his show into a new form with alien talk and research. This past year alone has been crazy and the alien or U.F.O. documents being released still has people skeptical if they have even been here yet and we might be scared or hopeful for our meeting with them, how about a way thats been here for a good while where you can summon one. Would you be ready to meet extraterrestrial life or would you want to ask them to come back in 50 years.

Former CIA agent (counter terror chief in Pakistan), torture whistle blower, and friend of the show, John Kiriakou (https://sputniknews.com/authors/john_kiriakou/) discusses Avril Haines, and the rest of the Biden war hawk cabinet appointments. We also get into U.S. foreign policy moving forward, which seems to be the same foreign policy as before. From Syria to Venezuela and more surveillance coming, it does not look good. John Kiriakou is also a well-known author. His books include, the Reluctant Spy, the Convenient Terrorist and Doing Time Like a Spy. The folks of Jerusalem are confused in 33AD why the authorities let Jesus teach in the TEMPLE, in JERUSALEM. It WAS the most important place on earth. We have the (only and) Most Important God. That is why they built a temple THERE. In that exact place. It is a very important place on our planet. Before they built a temple there, one could argue it was the most important place on the earth. The Temple did not make the place important, it was important BEFORE then. The Temple just RECOGNIZED the place that was already important. Geography informs interpretation. That is why our Jerusalem-ites were confused: They want to kill him. That was apparently common knowledge by then. But somehow the authorities are also allowing Jesus to SPEAK OPENLY, and worse: SPEAK OPENLY IN THE T-E-M-P-L-E. Where the Hand of the Lord was stayed 1000 years ago. (David and the avenging angel of the Census 2 Samuel 24). Where the Hand of the Lord was stayed 2000 years ago when a Ram was provided for the non-sacrifice of Isaac. The Temple was a VERY important place because it rests ON a very important place. Today, if you go to Jerusalem, there is no more temple. But THE PLACE IS AS IMPORTANT as ever. Nothing has changed. Listen and share in their confusion as to why the authorities let Jesus speak in the MOST IMPORTANT PLACE on EARTH.
John Blackburn, graduate of Warrior Week 52, joins Coach Sam in today’s episode of Warrior Week: Parables From the Pit. We learn about the very special person who loved John unconditionally, why that person was so important to him, and how he continues honoring their relationship inside of his life and business today. Parable #1: No More Secrets John was introduced to Warrior via one of his best friends who had been through Warrior Week himself and dubbed it as one of the most emotionally and physically difficult experiences of his life. The first thirty days into the build-up of Warrior Week was one of the most interesting, eye-opening, and liberating experiences for John. He was ultimately thrown into a pod with 16 other men where they shared their deepest, darkest secrets with coaches calling them out on their shit for not being completely truthful and honest. QUESTION Why are men uncomfortable telling the truth? Parable #2: Anchors The first night in the Pit was very emotional for John as he carried his sandbag filled with guilt, shame, and fear, dragging it along like an anchor. The weight he had been carrying was the guilt and shame around his marriage, his father, and his mother. The heaviest pain he was carrying was the loss of his mother, who was John’s best friend. “She was in my corner all my life. I watched her suffer for ten years, as she wanted to be alive to watch me get married and have kids. I was her reason to live.” QUESTION What anchors are you carrying that are weighing you down? Parable #3: Going to War For Your Wife Warrior Week was a game-changer for John. Not only did he find his power, but it was also a place to step up, shed the weight of guilt and shame, and get clear. One of the biggest shifts for John was the realization that he wanted to be married to his wife for the rest of his life. “I have 100% gone to war for this woman and have left it all on the field. It feels fucking fantastic not to hold anything back.” QUESTION What evidence do you have in your life that shows you have actually gone to war for your wife? Parable #4: Light on Earth John’s mother showed up in an unconditional manner day in and day out, no matter what he did or what was going on. “I always knew there was nothing I could do that would take her love and support away from me and what I was doing.” “Reflecting on the moments together, I can’t remember a time in our interaction when there wasn’t love present. She always had an open heart, and her ability to give and share love in any situation was her light on this earth.” QUESTION How does it feel to be around people who spread light wherever they go? Parable #5: Unconditional Love Pam, John’s mother, delivered joy inside of her heart despite the horrible complexity of her situation. She was able to cultivate joy inside of John’s heart during her ten-year illness. The biggest git he received from her was that of unconditional love. The lessons John gleaned from his mother have immensely affected how he shows up in his marriage, particularly around unconditional love, where saying yes to your spouse means that no conditions are placed on the love that you give and show them. QUESTION What conditions do you place on your loved ones? How can you begin letting go of those conditions? Parables from the Pit “It’s a one-way deposit.” —Sam Falsafi “You married this person for who they are, not for who they are going to become in the future.” –John Blackburn

2019 Summer Sermon Series, “Joy for our Journeys,” August 4, 2019 This week, let us consider a journey we cannot relate to at all—-it is unlike any trip we could ever take. It is the journey from Heaven to earth taken by God’s one and only Son, Jesus. The great love God has for us is why Jesus set out on this journey. He conquered death and provided a promise: because I live, you also will live (John 14:19).May the joy and wonder remain with you today and every day until you stand before the One who made a one-of-a kind journey from heaven to earth because he loved you.AmenPastor Ron Koehler
