Happy Thanksgiving 2023: A Note from Hope Katz Gibbs, publisher, Inkandescent Women magazine — “Being single is like playing the lottery — always the chance that with one piece of paper, you could win it all,” says New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Serle about the theme of her newest novel, Expiration Dates, available this month. Promoted as a romance that will define a generation, this is Rebecca's 8th book — and after reading it, and crying during my 9-hour plane trip from Frankfurt to JFT, I can tell you that is certainly true. Here's the story: Daphne Bell believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she'd spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend. Daphne has been receiving the numbered papers for over twenty years, always wondering when there might be one without an expiration. Finally, the night of a blind date at her favorite Los Angeles restaurant, there's only a name: Jake. But as Jake and Daphne's story unfolds, Daphne finds herself doubting the paper's prediction and wrestling with what it means to be both committed and truthful. Because Daphne knows things Jake doesn't, information that—if he found out—would break his heart. What critics are saying: Told with her signature warmth and insight into matters of the heart, Rebecca Serle has finally set her sights on romantic love. The result is a gripping, emotional, passionate, and (yes) heartbreaking novel about what it means to be single, what it means to find love, and ultimately how we define each of them for ourselves. Expiration Dates is the one fans have been waiting for. Below, find our Q&A: An article based on our interview will be published in the March 2024 issue of Costco's magazine The Connection. This isn't my first time writing about Rebecca and her books for Costco. I had the privilege of interviewing the author — who also developed the hit TV adaptation Famous in Love, based on her YA series of the same name — in 2018 when she published The Dinner List — an enchanting story about who you'd invite to that one magical dinner when anyone, from any time, could attend. This book strikes a similar cord, linking magic to reality. Buy the new book here! Click here to learn more about this Truly Amazing Woman: rebeccaserle.com. Capturing the coveted 18-34 age demographic is no easy task for programmers, advertisers and creators. What makes that task even more difficult is that it encompasses two generations -- Millennials and Generation Z, which engage with, shape and distribute media in very different ways. Millennials had instant messenger, Gen Z has Instagram; Millennials have DVRs, Gen Z consumes content exclusively on their phone. Millennials seek to be a part of the group while Gen Z seek uniqueness in everything, including the television they watch and the brands they buy. As these two generations seek out new content, Freeform has evolved into a network and platform that represents a combination of the two with series like The Bold Type, The Fosters, Famous In Love, Siren, and more. Listen in as Freeform’s programming executives and series creators discuss the process of navigating the generational divide, and harnessing the power of Gen Z viewers with narratives that are inclusive, diverse, raw, powerful, and smart.Episode Guests: Bradley Bredeweg (The Fosters), I. Empathy is a form of positive communication. To aid us in cultivating empathetic attitudes, hosts Henna Hundal and Caiseen Kelley welcome three YA authors onto the program who have empathy as a foundation of many of their stories. Social Responsibility reporter Aysa Gonzalez gives us her take on living a nonjudgmental life with examples from her experiences. She also encourages empathy for victims of sexual slavery. Rebecca Serle is the author of When You Were Mine, The Edge of Falling and her new teen series, Famous in Love. She is an obsessive lover of all things pop culture. She blogs about The Vampire Diaries for New York magazine's Vulture. Mary Elizabeth Summer has a BA in creative writing from Wells College. Her debut novel -- Trust Me, I'm Lying -- centers around teenage Julep Dupree, a con artist and a master of disguise who finds empathy in unexpected circumstances. Denise Jaden's novels have been shortlisted or received awards through the Romance Writers of America, Inspy, and SCBWI. Her novels include Never Enough and Foreign Exchange. She discusses her Just-Get-To-The-End fast-drafting process. Be kind, be empathetic. Care, share, and be fair.
