#274 - Erwin Interview

The Philippines is the most Roman Catholic country in the world. It is no wonder that it is a starting place for most who become Protestant Evangelical Christians. Erwin Armador, pastor of GFC Nuvali Church in the Philippines journeyed from his Catholic background into Pentecostal Protestantism finding Jesus as his Savior along the way. But ultimately, his Arminian theology left him with questions and doubts. He then adopted Calvinism, but found that it lacked the joy he desired and also left him with theological questions about the character of God. He was a committed Calvinist until he encountered another option, Free Grace theology. With a new enthusiasm and freedom, he received theological training at Grace School of Theology (Grace Asia in the Philippines) earning his DMin degree. He now pastors a vibrant church committed to intentionally making disciples. Pastor Erwin is committed to sharing the gospel of grace with his nation and recently spoke at the Free Grace Alliance regional conference there. Charlie sat with him to record his story, which should encourage everyone to appreciate the free grace of God in the biblical gospel. See how the message of God's grace has changed his life and shaped his ministry. You will see God has used and will continue to use this man as a trophy of grace in the Philippines and beyond. #GCFNuvali#FreeGracePhilippines#CalvinismPhilippines#SimplybyGrace#youtube.com?@gracelifeorg

Madel knew the Roman Catholic theology she was raised with. When she felt it unfulfilling, she migrated to Protestant Evangelicalism where Calvinism was the default view. That is all she knew, but it left her with questions and feeling a bit uncomfortable. Deeply involved in ministry as a Bible study leader, she found herself becoming a "fruit detector" wondering if those in her group were showing enough fruit and good works to prove they were indeed true believers. She had heard of the Free Grace view, but believed the reports that it was "easy-believism." Madel concluded the best way to know the truth about the Free Grace view was to study it, so she enrolled in Grace School of Theology (Grace Asia in the Philippines). In her first classes, she heard that that the gospel of God's free grace meant that she could know for certain she was saved. She learned that Jesus Christ died for all and offers all who believe in Him eternal life that cannot be earned or lost. When this truth dawned on her, Madel had a burden of doubt lifted and left her with a joyful heart. She now shares that message in ministry including writing curricula. Completing her master's degree at GSOT, she is now working on her ThD at another seminary. Charlie spoke at a Free Grace Alliance regional meeting at her church, Grace Victory Church in the Philippines, which Madel helped organize and he was able to record her testimony. Be sure to share Madel's exciting story with those who need the freedom that grace, free grace, brings. #GraceforPhilippines #AssuranceofSalvation #SimplybyGrace#youtube.com/@gracelifeorg

This is a story about how sin tried to ruin and waste a life, but God would not allow it. Carmen Pate had a rough start being sexually abused as a child. That did not stop her from hearing the gospel at a young age and believing in Jesus Christ as her Savior. Carmen strayed away from the Lord in her teen years. What should have been a joyful blessing ended up as spiritual abuse in legalistic churches that made her feel guilty for her lifestyle with little hope of forgiveness. Finally, God's grace broke through when she and her husband read a book by Jody (Joseph) Dillow. That put her on the hopeful path of God's love and grace. While living in this new joy, Carmen encountered another trial--cancer. But the disease did not abolish her faith; it strengthened it and allowed her to write and speak about it for others. You will be encouraged by this trophy of grace and will want to share her story with others. Carmen is married to Bob with three children and nine grandchildren. She ministers with her radio shows and Saving Grace podcasts for Grace School of Theology. You can find her book on Amazon or at gracetheology.org. It is called In Our Weaknesses, God is Strong: The Power of His Touch through You. You can get on Carmen's regular devotional list if you leave your phone number at Pate.Carmen@Gmail.com.

"This epistle may be titled 'The Believer's Conflict in the Latter Days.' The apostle opened and closed 2 Peter with the theme of victory. But within the epistle he focused primarily on how to live when surrounded by the problems and perplexities of the end time. After painting a landscape (in 2:1–3:10) replete with false teachers, fallen angels, flagrant immorality, and flaccid scoffers, Peter charged his readers 'to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming' (3:11–12). Faithful living in difficult times—that is the lesson Peter would have believers learn through this dynamic letter" (Kenneth O. Gangel, “2 Peter,” in The Bible Knowledge Commentary, 859). Dr. Fred Chay returns to the series to help us grapple with this lesser-known letter. Dr. Chay is the founder of Grace Line Ministry, professor of theology and dean of the doctoral studies program at Grace School of Theology, and managing editor of Grace Theology Press.

It's with his typical insight and simplicity that theologian Warren Wiersbe opens his commentary on James: "Not everybody who grows old, grows up. There's a vast difference between age and maturity. Ideally, the older we are, the more mature we should be; but too often the ideal does not become the real. "The result is problems—problems in personal lives, in homes, and in churches. As a pastor, I see more problems in these areas caused by a maturity than by anything else. If Christians we just grow up, they would become victors instead of victims. "The epistle of James was written to help us understand and attain spiritual maturity: "… That ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing" (James 1:4). I like the way J. B. Phillips puts it: '... and you will find you have become men of mature character, men of integrity with no weak spots.'" To help us explore this maturity-encouraging, growth-inspiring, God-inspired writing we welcome Dr. Fred Chay to the podcast. This is an interview with Rev. Craig B. Mousin, an Adjunct Faculty member of the DePaul University College of Law and the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy.  This podcast argues that the Preamble to the Constitution invites you to add your voice to protecting and expanding voting rights to ensure the nation's promise of equality for all.  Since the Civil War, our nation has amended the United States Constitution at least once every fifty years to expand voting rights to persons previously excluded.  The summer of 2021 marks fifty years since the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18.  Today, however, we face, renewed efforts to restrict voting rights through reluctance in Congress or state legislation making it more difficult to register and vote.  It is time to assemble with others to protect and expand voting rights through local and national action.  You can read the Constitution at: https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/Citations to Professor Akhil Amar are from his book, America's Constitution, A Biography, (Random House, NY, 2005), (states waiving restrictions, thus expanding the number of persons eligible to participate in the state ratification process of the Constitution: 7) (no amendment has restricted voting rights: 19) (union not a league or confederacy: 33) (immigrant signers of the Declaration of Independence and members of the First Congress and First Supreme Court: 164).  Information on the efforts to repeal state anti-black laws in the 19th Century can be found in Kate Masur, Until Justice Be Done, America's First Civil Rights Movement, From the Revolution to Reconstruction, (W.W. The podcast celebrates the thirty-sixth anniversary of former Mayor Harold Washington's Executive Order 85-1 that prohibited city agencies, including the police, from cooperating with the enforcement activities of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. After the Chicago City Council enacted an ordinance sharing Mayor Washington's goals twelve years ago, the City Council recently added new amendments to Chicago's Welcoming City Ordinance, signed by Mayor Lori Lightfoot on February 23, 2021. The podcast commends the activism of the Chicago Immigration Working Group for its efforts to build a truly welcoming city.
