In this episode of The Rainmaking Podcast, host Scott Love speaks with Barbara Koenen-Geerdink, former CMO of the largest law firm in the Middle East and co-founder of Boost, about the mindset and vision necessary to become a successful rainmaker. Barbara emphasizes that building a book of business is a long-term journey, best started early in one's career with a clear, tangible vision of success. She explains how to create a detailed roadmap based on visualization, goal-setting, and structured milestones—transforming abstract ambitions into daily actions that build momentum. Barbara also shares how Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can rewire self-doubt and limiting beliefs, helping professionals embody the mindset of a rainmaker before they achieve the title. She outlines the top pitfalls to avoid, including distraction, comparison, and vague goals, and offers three action steps: define your vision, condition your mindset, and track measurable progress toward clearly defined outcomes. This episode offers both the strategic and psychological tools needed to move from aspiration to execution.
Sunshine Coast Lightning shooting extraordinaire Cara Koenen joins the guys to dissect what went wrong last weekend when the scorers made a huge error!Enjoy!

Während man Gin hauptsächlich eiskalt „on the rocks“ trinkt, genießt man Tee meistens heiß. Charlie Koenen, once thriving in the computer business, found himself drawn into a different world—the world of bees. Transitioning from tech to agriculture, Koenen has gained a passion for bees and being an advocate for pollinator awareness. Driven by a quest to change traditional beekeeping methods, Koenen delved into industrial design to reinvent beehives. After nine years of innovation, he unveiled a new design—a horizontal hive—aimed at reducing the hive's weight and disruption to the bees' habitat. His unique approach to beekeeping extends beyond personal interest. Koenen has placed hives in unconventional locations across Milwaukee, such as nursing homes, schools, and community hubs, challenging the stereotype of beekeeping in urban spaces.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Every plastic bottle you throw away will certainly go somewhere, but only a handful of them are actually recycled and reused. Plastic pollution is a serious problem most people ignore in exchange for the convenience it offers. That's why a huge number of them unsurprisingly ends up in landfills and in the ocean. Corinna Bellizzi is eager to solve this problem, and she sits down with Robert Koenen to talk about how he helps address such a massive issue. The Founder of Boxed Water Is Better shares how they contribute to lessening needless plastic by creating eco-friendly and biodegradable water containers. Robert also explores the benefits and dangers of aluminum, why you should be wise in choosing companies to support, and why most water brands are only out there for marketing.Love the show? Ten years and 8 autoimmune/chronic conditions into remission ago (in my Gettysburg address voice) I can tell you there is SO MUCH misinformation when it comes to autoimmune disease. So much that sometimes it makes me so angry with the medical profession. Even our medical professionals don't readily share the truth about your body's ability to heal because they simply have been taught a different rhetoric. Let's reprogram your rhetoric right here, right now, with the fact- filled research. On this episode I am joined by Robert Koenen. He is the Chief Marketing Officer of Boxed Water is Better. Boxed Water has 92% plant based packaging and wants you to consider eliminating single use plastic. If you buy one of their waters and take a pic and post it with the hashtag #BetterPlant they will plant two trees for you. They have currently planted 1.5 million trees. They have also partnered with non-profits and are also committed to cleaning up 3000 miles of beaches. They have built a brand with transparency and customer service. They respond to all emails that are sent and are the first to admit where they could improve which currently is in the shipping options. We talk about sustainability and our carbon footprint and how it is a method of caring for ourselves and a way to care for our community whether it is in a big way or whether it is a simple as buying a re-useable straw to avoid using a plastic one. We talk about generational differences in how we think about the environment and how each generation creates its own problems but are more vocal on wanting real change. In this episode of the podcast we caught up with Barbara Koenen-Geerdink, Global Head of BD & Marketing at Ince, and author of 'Beyond Billable Hours: Your guide to career success in professional services firms' to ask her how individuals in Business Development and Marketing roles can support fee earners in their BD activities. Barbara talks about the importance of strategy and planning and making sure that each individual activity, be it an event, conference, sponsorship etc aligns with the overall strategy of the firm. Part of this is helping fee earners to understand the return on investment of their efforts. Barbara also gives some insight on how to do this at scale discussing the importance of ownership from individual sector BD leads and empowering the fee earner who "have some fantastic ideas" to action them. To close, Barbara explained that you don't need to re-invent the wheel, you can focus on what you are doing well as a firm and try to do that better. Often there are opportunities right in front of you - low hanging fruits - and this is a good place to focus efforts.
