Even though Eddie and Gary are on the rebuild, they're still somehow busier than a Greggs on match day. Gary's had a short stay in the comparison trap, but a chance encounter with a real‑life hero gave him the reality check he needed. Both hosts also find themselves openly thirsting over an A‑list movie star. Zero shame from both. We also sing the praises of the humble home gym. We're not talking squat racks. We mean the trusty dumbbell, a couple of resistance bands, and a yoga mat.And to round things off, the coaches chat about the simple brilliance of taking a map out on the trails. Old‑school. Reliable and it doesn't run out of battery halfway up a mountain.HARRIER - Use code TATP10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaXMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - Use code TEA2026 for 15% off your first orderPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zSTRAVA - Use code TEA for 20% off an annual membership - #StravaPartner #Adhttps://www.strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=TEASUNGOD - Use code TEA15 for 15% off your order - https://www.sungod.co/en-gbBEARHUG - Click the link to receive 15% off your order.https://getabearhug.avln.me/c/mtOmrcHyImJoContent contains affiliate links which help support this channel at no cost to you.Brew with the Coaches - CLICK HEREHardmoors - https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/Trail Outlaws - https://www.trailoutlaws.com/13 Valleys Ultra - https://www.13valleysultra.com/Beyond Trails - https://www.beyondtrails.co.uk/Hellfire Events - https://www.hellfireevents.com/Dales Runner - https://dalesrunner.co.uk/Run The Wild - https://runthewild.co.uk/Hannah Walsh - https://www.hannahwalsh.co.uk/Punk Panther - https://www.punkpanther.co.uk/Pen Llyn Ultra - https://penllyn.niftyentries.com/Raw Adventures - https://www.raw-adventures.co.uk/XNRG - https://www.xnrg.co.uk/
This week we're sharing the mics with friend of the show Katie Kaars-Sijpesteijn. A Salomon and GB athlete, Katie has lined up, and podiumed, at some of the most competitive races out there. But the last 12 months have taken her down a very different path as she chased a sub‑3 road marathon. Not exactly the classic tune‑up for UTS by UTMB 100K, yet it clearly worked… because she stormed her way to 2nd place in a seriously stacked field. We chat about her recent races, the unconventional build‑up, and her journey back to racing as a mother of two young children.HARRIER - Use code TATP10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaXMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - Use code TEA2026 for 15% off your first orderPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zSTRAVA - Use code TEA for 20% off an annual membership - #StravaPartner #Adhttps://www.strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=TEASUNGOD - Use code TEA15 for 15% off your order - https://www.sungod.co/en-gbBEARHUG - Click the link to receive 15% off your order.https://getabearhug.avln.me/c/mtOmrcHyImJoContent contains affiliate links which help support this channel at no cost to you.Brew with the Coaches - CLICK HEREHardmoors - https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/Trail Outlaws - https://www.trailoutlaws.com/13 Valleys Ultra - https://www.13valleysultra.com/Beyond Trails - https://www.beyondtrails.co.uk/Hellfire Events - https://www.hellfireevents.com/Dales Runner - https://dalesrunner.co.uk/Run The Wild - https://runthewild.co.uk/Hannah Walsh - https://www.hannahwalsh.co.uk/Punk Panther - https://www.punkpanther.co.uk/Pen Llyn Ultra - https://penllyn.niftyentries.com/Raw Adventures - https://www.raw-adventures.co.uk/XNRG - https://www.xnrg.co.uk/
The 2026 London Marathon saw new world record times set in both the men's and women's events. Eyes weren't just on the winning athletes but also on the Adidas trainers they were wearing. So what goes into designing and making a pair of trainers and why have some of them become so expensive to buy? Global sales for trainers are in the tens of billions of dollars with hundreds of new styles being produced every year. How does the industry keep up with demand and stay on trend? Giant companies like Nike and Adidas, who dominated the industry for decades, can no longer take anything for granted. Newer brands like On and Hoka have managed to break through and are shaking things up. How have they managed to do it? Evan Davis gets some insights and answers from people who work in the industry.Guests: Tony Evans: Managing Director of Jacobson Group Tom Astrella: Co-founder The Footsoldiers Wayne Edy: Founder and CEO of Inov8Presenter: Evan Davis Producer: Sally Abrahams & Nick Holland Sounds: Dave O'Neill and Frank McWeeny Editor: Sam Bonham
When it comes to breaking world records, London Marathon is now in a league of its own.在打破世界纪录方面,伦敦马拉松已无人能望其项背。This year's race was the biggest, with nearly 60,000 finishers, and the fastest, with two elite world records, and Sabastian Sawe becoming the first person to break the two-hour barrier in a sanctioned race.本届赛事不仅规模空前,有近六万人完赛,成绩也刷新了历史最快纪录,诞生了两项精英组世界纪录,塞巴斯蒂安·萨维更成为了首位在认证赛事中突破两小时大关的运动员。Now, more people than ever want to take part in next year's event, with over 1.3 million applications, and near parity between male and female runners.现在,想要参加来年比赛的人数达到了有史以来的最高峰,共有超过 130 万人申请参赛,其中男女选手比例几乎持平。Organisers are considering staging the 2027 edition across two days with two separate mass participation races.赛事组委会正在考虑将 2027 年的赛事分两天举行,即举办两场独立的大众赛。Approval is yet to be given, but it could mean there may be more spots up for grabs in what has become the world's most popular running race.方案虽待审批,但这预示着在这场全球最受欢迎的竞跑赛事中,将有更多参赛名额可供争取。

It's an episode of extremes today, girls. PJ has been recovering from the worst hangover of his life after taking some bad drinking advice from an evil twink. Meanwhile, Kevin's been to watch his pal run the London Marathon, and he can't get over how supportive and wholesome the vibes are. And how hot the lads are.For the theme this week, the boys are breaking into the Khia Asylum: the fictional pop star purgatory manned by the Bebe Rexha's and Ava Max's of the world. They wonder what it takes for a pop girl to get stuck there, how they can break free, and whether Mickey Joe Harte deserves a cell. Purchase Happy Campers Tour Tickets here
Ten years ago, Gary popped his 100‑mile cherry on the Cleveland Way. Countless miles have been covered between then and now, but after a bit of refocusing found himself back on a start line, this time for the Hardmoors 200.Starting in Hull, the route winds through wooded slopes, over rolling hills, and down into deep valleys, before eventually climbing onto the northern escarpment and dropping toward the final stretch of the Wolds Way. At Filey you join the stunning 110‑mile Cleveland Way National Trail.Over the course of the weekend, Gary's race evolved from simply getting the job done to suddenly finding himself in pole position… and then hanging on for dear life as the pack closed in.HARRIER - Use code TATP10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaXMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - Use code TEA2026 for 15% off your first orderPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zSTRAVA - Use code TEA for 20% off an annual membership - #StravaPartner #Adhttps://www.strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=TEASUNGOD - Use code TEA15 for 15% off your order - https://www.sungod.co/en-gbASCEND APP - Use code TeaandTrails30 to receive 30% off a monthly subscription.https://ascendtrailapp.avln.me/c/MOwNWISPDOwiContent may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you.Brew with the Coaches - CLICK HEREHardmoors - https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/Trail Outlaws - https://www.trailoutlaws.com/13 Valleys Ultra - https://www.13valleysultra.com/Beyond Trails - https://www.beyondtrails.co.uk/Hellfire Events - https://www.hellfireevents.com/Dales Runner - https://dalesrunner.co.uk/Hannah Walsh - https://www.hannahwalsh.co.uk/Punk Panther - https://www.punkpanther.co.uk/Pen Llyn Ultra - https://penllyn.niftyentries.com/Raw Adventures - https://www.raw-adventures.co.uk/XNRG - https://www.xnrg.co.uk/
In case you haven't noticed, running is very much in vogue these days. We talked about the London Marathon on Do You Really Know last month, but you don't have to out yourself through the ordeal of a 26-mile distance to enjoy running. It can just as easily be a 20 or 30 minute jog in the park, or in the streets of your local area. And of course as with any trend in society, the running boom has gained significant traction on social media. People love sharing their progress on mainstream socials, as well as through dedicated running apps like Adidas Running, Nike Run Club, or Strava. What do you mean by that? Most of us aren't heads of state or secret service agents though, are we? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Rose Harvey is one of British athletics' most extraordinary stories... a former corporate lawyer made redundant during Covid who took up marathon running seriously for the first time at 28. One decision made over a beer in the pub changed her life!Within a year she had qualified for her first England team, became British Champion at the 2022 London Marathon, represented GB at the World Championships, and running 2:23:21 at Chicago in 2023 to put herself sixth on the British all-time list. She then competed at the Paris Olympics with a stress fracture in her femur, finishing the race before scans revealed she'd run on a broken thigh bone. Listen for an incredible story of transformation!
This week, Gary is back from a very successful Hardmoors 200. It's not our full recap, but he shares some thoughts and takeaways from the whole 200 mile experience, and it's fair to say his emotions are easily triggered right now. Eddie is still on the injury bench, which is rough. Small gains, but sad times for our Eddie. The coaches tackle a listener question from someone who wants to become a coach, and we chat through what recovery can look like after a big race. This bumper episode also has Birthday Shout‑outs, Heavy Flexes, Tales from the Trails, and another incredible Strava Club.HARRIER - Use code TATP10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaXMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - Use code TEA2026 for 15% off your first orderPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zSTRAVA - Use code TEA for 20% off an annual membership - #StravaPartner #Adhttps://www.strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=TEASUNGOD - Use code TEA15 for 15% off your order - https://www.sungod.co/en-gbASCEND APP - Use code TeaandTrails30 to receive 30% off a monthly subscription.https://ascendtrailapp.avln.me/c/MOwNWISPDOwiContent may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you.Brew with the Coaches - CLICK HEREHardmoors - https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/Trail Outlaws - https://www.trailoutlaws.com/13 Valleys Ultra - https://www.13valleysultra.com/Beyond Trails - https://www.beyondtrails.co.uk/Hellfire Events - https://www.hellfireevents.com/Dales Runner - https://dalesrunner.co.uk/Hannah Walsh - https://www.hannahwalsh.co.uk/Punk Panther - https://www.punkpanther.co.uk/Pen Llyn Ultra - https://penllyn.niftyentries.com/Raw Adventures - https://www.raw-adventures.co.uk/XNRG - https://www.xnrg.co.uk/
Hur lång tid innan bör man börja kolhydratsladda? We're incredibly lucky this week to share the mics with a true legend of our sport. Kim Collison has taken on, and completed, some of the UK's roughest, toughest challenges. And it's not all about going long either. He's just as happy toeing the line at a local fell race.Kim joins us to talk about his recent Lakes, Meres & Waters record‑breaking run, but the conversation wanders beautifully through all sorts of topics, nutrition, training, how he picks his challenges and even his journey with cholesterol medication. Kim's not someone who seeks the limelight, so it felt like a real treat, for us and for you listening, that he said yes to our persistent DMs.HARRIER - Use code TATP10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaXMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - Use code TEA2026 for 15% off your first orderPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zSTRAVA - Use code TEA for 20% off an annual membership - #StravaPartner #Adhttps://www.strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=TEAASCEND APP - Use code TeaandTrails30 to receive 30% off a monthly subscription.https://ascendtrailapp.avln.me/c/MOwNWISPDOwiContent may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you.Brew with the Coaches - CLICK HEREHardmoors - https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/Trail Outlaws - https://www.trailoutlaws.com/13 Valleys Ultra - https://www.13valleysultra.com/Beyond Trails - https://www.beyondtrails.co.uk/Hellfire Events - https://www.hellfireevents.com/Dales Runner - https://dalesrunner.co.uk/Hannah Walsh - https://www.hannahwalsh.co.uk/Punk Panther - https://www.punkpanther.co.uk/Pen Llyn Ultra - https://penllyn.niftyentries.com/Raw Adventures - https://www.raw-adventures.co.uk/XNRG - https://www.xnrg.co.uk/
The biggest buzz at the London Marathon this year wasn't just the racing, it was around Nomio. It's a performance shot used by athletes like Cole Hocker and Conner Mantz. Nomio is used before their key sessions and races, whether it's breaking the American Marathon record or getting WC gold in Tokyo. If you want to check it out yourself, it's at drinknomio.com and if you're in Australia or New Zealand, you can find it at Aid Station, and over at The Running Company. This weekend's interview on the Inside Running Podcast, Brad Croker sits down with Olympic silver medallist Evan Jager for an in-depth conversation on one of the most unique careers in distance running. Evan Jager is one of America's most accomplished distance runners, best known for his dominance in the 3000m steeplechase. An Olympic silver medallist at the Rio 2016 Games, Jager broke a 28-year-old American record in the event and became a consistent force on the global stage, regularly competing against the world's best. Coached for much of his career by Jerry Schumacher as part of the Bowerman Track Club, Jager has also claimed multiple U.S. national titles and represented the United States at several World Championships and Olympic Games. Known for his smooth hurdling technique and tactical racing, he remains one of the most respected steeplechasers of his generation. Boston and London aren't just marathons. They're full-body logistics puzzles, city-wide celebrations, and emotional pressure cookers that reveal what your training is really made of. We sit down with runners who lined up at two of the biggest stages in the sport and tell the story from the inside, from expo wins and wallet pain to the moments when the course turns and your plan has to change. Before we get to the World Marathon Majors recap, we share something closer to home: Bob reflects on losing Lily and the unexpected way she helped him find running again after an Achilles injury. From there, we shift into the here-and-now work that supports every big finish line, including staying consistent in the “training valley,” managing summer heat and humidity, and building a recovery routine that actually keeps you healthy. We talk steps, treadmills, dew point, hydration, pacing expectations, protein, electrolytes, and the small choices that add up when training ramps back up for runDisney season. Then we go deep on Boston Marathon and London Marathon experiences. You'll hear how runners get into Boston through charity fundraising and sponsor pathways, what race morning really feels like in Hopkinton, and how the hills and the finish on Boylston land when it's your first major or your sixth star. In London, we break down travel and jet lag tactics, an impressively engineered multi-start system, on-site bib printing, iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge, and crowds so loud you can't hear your own headphones. If you enjoyed these stories and tips, subscribe, share the episode with a running friend, and leave a quick review so more runners can find the Rise and Run community.Rise and Run LinksRise and Run Podcast Facebook PageRise and Run Podcast InstagramRise and Run Podcast Website and ShopRise and Run PatreonRunningwithalysha Alysha's Run Coaching (Mention Rise And Run and get $10 off) Send us Fan MailSupport the showRise and Run Podcast is supported by our audience. Episode SummaryWe're back! Aaron Thomas Smith and Devon Palmer recording from Devon's "estate" (fine, his house) in what may or may not be called an art room. Play-Doh, kinetic sand, bracelets - total state of chaos. Perfect.Big updates this episode. Devon's still run-focused - four times a week plus Zwift rides. Just did the Get in Gear Half Marathon (1:41:50), training for City of Lakes Half and Twin Cities Marathon again after last year's "unremarkable" performance. We talk about the London Marathon breaking two hours, running injuries from JV maneuvers, and why that 1.2 mile walk after the marathon was a disaster.Aaron's back. Down 11 pounds (223 to 222, goal is sub-200). Riding four times a week, weight training three times a week, 20-hour fasts. Less stress, more availability to do what he loves. Went on his first group ride in 2-3 years - the ACF Wednesday night ride - and had this revelation: he didn't know anyone, didn't have to lead anything, just got to enjoy riding a bike. Game changer. We get into the peripheral stuff that ruins hobbies, why comparison is the thief of joy, and how being responsible for everything everywhere crushes the fun. Aaron lost his Strava KOM to his former boss Martin Lacey. Devon's ten years sober from triathlon. And yes, we're moving from bi-annual to maybe monthly recordings. What You'll Get:Devon's running updates and Twin Cities Marathon redemption arcAaron's cycling comeback story (and why group rides are saving him)How being a "dad" everywhere in your life ruins your hobbiesThe peripheral stuff that crushes joy in any sportWhy we're both avoiding committee responsibilities like the plaguePlans for more regular episodes (we'll see)
In this week's episode we're breaking down the London Marathon — the good, the tough, and everything in between. We get into why race day didn't go to plan despite a solid prep, how to handle the mental side of a disappointing result, and why sometimes the sport just humbles you.We also dive into Sebastian Sarwe's insane sub-2 fueling strategy (115g of carbs per hour - yes, really
It's finally here. The training is done, the excuses are gone, and Gary, along with a whole crew of wonderfully stubborn athletes, is about to set off on an adventure that will push every limit they've got. There'll be moments of doubt, a few questionable life choices, and probably more than one internal conversation about retiring from running altogether. But there will also be magic. A full weekend of grit, laughter, memories, and people proving, yet again, that what seems impossible is absolutely within reach.Click to TrackHARRIER - Use code TATP10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaXMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - Use code TEA2026 for 15% off your first orderPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zSTRAVA - Use code TEA for 20% off an annual membership - #StravaPartner #Adhttps://www.strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=TEAASCEND APP - Use code TeaandTrails30 to receive 30% off a monthly subscription.https://ascendtrailapp.avln.me/c/MOwNWISPDOwiContent may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you.Brew with the Coaches - CLICK HEREHardmoors - https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/Trail Outlaws - https://www.trailoutlaws.com/13 Valleys Ultra - https://www.13valleysultra.com/Beyond Trails - https://www.beyondtrails.co.uk/Hellfire Events - https://www.hellfireevents.com/Dales Runner - https://dalesrunner.co.uk/Hannah Walsh - https://www.hannahwalsh.co.uk/Punk Panther - https://www.punkpanther.co.uk/Pen Llyn Ultra - https://penllyn.niftyentries.com/Raw Adventures - https://www.raw-adventures.co.uk/XNRG - https://www.xnrg.co.uk/
I'm fired up. New studio, new energy, and a month that reminded me exactly why I do this. In this solo episode – with a surprise appearance from Release Foundation's own Caitlin Healy – I break down three moments that stopped me cold. First: how a viral Bravo moment turned into a $25,000 donation to the Release Foundation, and why I had absolutely nothing to do with it. Caitlin takes us behind the scenes of the "Carl's a Mess" moment – the relationships, the hustle, and what it actually takes to capitalize on something like that in 24 hours. Then I go deep on the London Marathon – not just the race, but what it took to get there. After two brutal years of missed workouts and ego-driven training, I finally let go, listened to my coach, and ran a five-minute PR. The parallel to recovery is impossible to ignore: you get out what you put in, and the moment you think you know better, you don't. Finally, the Release Foundation Gala. 650 people. A nightclub in lower Manhattan. Questlove on the decks. Sober people, not-sober people, and a dance floor that didn't empty until the lights came up. This is what breaking down stigma actually looks like. If you've ever wondered what a life in recovery can look like – please give this episode a listen. It was an emotional day at Hill Dickinson Stadium - frustration, anger and sadness were all in the air. Matt and Paddy pick through a woeful effort against Sunderland and examine why the form has dropped off so drastically in recent weeks. We also look at Seamus Coleman's send off - should he have come on and should he get a testimonial? Then there's a focus on David Moyes. Is this the beginning of the end for his second spell at Everton? Or will Angus Kinnear stick to his guns after his pre-match comments?

The biggest buzz at the London Marathon this year wasn't just the racing, it was around Nomio. It's a performance shot used by athletes like Cole Hocker and Conner Mantz. Nomio is used before their key sessions and races, whether it's breaking the American Marathon record or getting WC gold in Tokyo. If you want to check it out yourself, it's at drinknomio.com and if you're in Australia or New Zealand, you can find it at Aid Station, and over at The Running Company. This weekend on the Inside Running Podcast, Moose sits down with American marathon and half marathon record holder Conner Mantz. Mantz made history at the 2025 Chicago Marathon, running 2:04:43 to become the fastest American marathoner ever. Before turning to the roads, he won back-to-back NCAA Cross Country titles at BYU and represented the United States at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Coached by Ed Eyestone and competing for Nike, Mantz has become the dominant force in American men's marathoning. The encounter between Piers Morgan and Russell Brand in April was, if nothing else, compelling and revealing. Despite their very different personae, they have had strangely similar journeys through some of the darker aspects of media and come out the other side, each now positioning himself as part of ‘alternative media', whatever that exactly means, while still in contact with the mainstream. Antony breaks down a quite bizarre conversation, with both protagonists wrestling for control and trying to direct things into the areas they would prepare to discuss. There are a few truth bombs detonated here, which many alt. media commentators seem to have missed as they focus only on a few moments of dead air. Did Piers and Russell simply expose one another for who & what they are? How sincere are they, or is it all a grift from people well schooled in how to capture attention and often direct it? You decide (the full interview is in the show notes) Following this, Antony offers a book recommendation, a couple of comments on a mental health shenanigans, and a few details of an amazing athletic achievement in London a few weeks ago Enjoy! Simon Scriver's Amazingly Ultimate Fundraising Superstar Podcast
What happens when you hand your fundraising campaign over to an AI? In this episode, Host Simon Scriver speaks with Ben Cohen, AI Lead at Good Innovation, about a bold experiment he ran during his London Marathon fundraising campaign. Rather than host another bingo night or curry evening, Ben built Zosia; an AI agent - and gave her one job: raise £500 in a month. Ben shares how he set Zosia up with her own email address, a website, a newsletter, and even a Telegram connection, then gave her as much autonomy as possible. The results were remarkable (she raised nearly £2,000), but not without a few surprises along the way - including the moment she tried to break into his WhatsApp. They explore what it really means to build an AI agent, why personifying your AI can actually make it work better, and what this experiment reveals about the future of fundraising. Everton's European prospects are bleak after one of the most frustrating results of the season. Matt and Paddy assess the team's recent defensive disintegration and look at why the mentality has been wrong in the last five games. In short, have the Blues bottled it? We then look at our priorities for the summer - Matt goes a bit Walter Smith - and give kudos to Beto after his brilliant goal.

Welcome to episode 331 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! Four months out from the 20th anniversary of Ötillö, the Swimrun World Championship, and we are leaving no stone unturned. The physical training is building nicely. Chris just finished the London Marathon in 3:37 and downing 90 grams of carbs per hour, and Chipper has been stacking consistent weeks. Orcas Swimrun is at the end of the month. The build is very much on. This episode is about training the thing most people ignore until it is too late — the mind. We brought back Dr. Erin Ayala, sports psychologist and host of the Feisty Women's Performance Podcast, who joined us last year right after Ötillö to help us process the other side of the mountain. This time we asked her to come back four months out and answer the harder question — how do you actually prepare mentally for a race like this before you get there? Here is what we covered. If there is one thing you take from this episode, Dr. Erin says it is mindfulness and meditation — and she has the numbers to back it up. The effect size for consistent mindfulness practice on sports performance is 1.35 standard deviations, which puts it well above most physical interventions. Three times a week, five to ten minutes at a time, is enough to start. Her top free recommendation is the Healthy Minds app out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which removes all decision fatigue and walks you through a structured user journey. On visualization — the number one mistake people make is visualizing success. What actually works is visualizing reality. The anxiety at the start line, the chaos of a mass start swim, the moment three quarters through a long run when you want to walk. You plan for those moments, visualize your response to them, and on race day it is easier to execute because you have already been there. For Ötillö specifically, that means the jellyfish at the first swim, the cold water on your face, the sighting into the sun, the sharp rocks coming out of the water. Make it vivid and make it real. On team psychology — communication is everything. Dr. Erin walks through the pre-race conversations every swimrun team should have, including what you each need on race morning, transition quirks, how you want to be supported when things get hard, and what your partner's body language looks like when they are struggling. The hive mind Chip and Chris describe at their best races is a skill you build, not something that just happens. On navigating the noise — the athletes and coaches worth following are the ones who say it depends, who are willing to be wrong, and who are not selling you a system. Major in the boring. Consistency with hydration, nutrition, sleep, and strength training is 95 percent of the work. Everything else is optional. Follow Dr. Erin at @scattisportspsychology on Instagram and check out the Feisty Women's Performance Podcast. Enjoy! That's it for this week's show. “I just had to always remind myself: be yourself, put in the work, stay present, and trust that it gets better as you go.”My guest for today's episode is Sharon Lokedi: the back-to-back Boston Marathon champion. Last month, she became only the second athlete since 1994 to win Boston in consecutive years, crossing the finish line in 2:18:51 for her second straight crown. The way she won it was extraordinary: she sat patiently through a 19-woman lead pack, waited until the hills, and then between 35K and 40K ran a 14:48 5K split — faster than the NCAA outdoor 5K record set on the track just two days earlier. She won by 44 seconds.Sharon won New York in 2022, finished 4th at the 2024 Paris Olympics, won Boston in 2025, and again in 2026. She has become one of the most complete competitors in the women's marathon — someone who doesn't need the fastest time on paper to believe she can beat anyone in the field on race day. She also ran the entire race on a borrowed Garmin because she left her own watch at the hotel and only realized it on the bus ride to Hopkinton. In this conversation, Sharon walks through the build, the pressure of returning as defending champion, and how she managed the expectation while staying grounded. She takes us inside the race itself: covering early moves, reading the hills, using the lead car as her focal point during that extraordinary 35-40K surge, and the moment she finally let herself enjoy it on Boylston Street. We also get into what it means to her to inspire other women and how she got to throw out the first pitch at Fenway Park.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavezGuest: Sharon Lokedi | @shazrineProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: When you finish a hard workout, the work isn't actually done. The World Athletics Relays wrapped up Sunday with world records, championship records, and the first automatic qualifiers secured for Budapest and Beijing 2027.Discussed in this episode:- Jamaica broke their own mixed 4x100m world record — 39.62 in the final- USA smashed the mixed 4x400m championship record — 3:07.47- Host nation Botswana won the men's 4x400m in 2:54.47 — third fastest in history — in front of a packed home crowd described as one of the best atmospheres in recent track memory- Norway stunned the field in the women's 4x400m with a world-leading national record of 3:20.96- The race of the meet: The men's 4x400m final produced one of the most jaw-dropping relay performances ever. Botswana (2:54.47), South Africa (2:55.07), and Australia (2:55.20) went 2nd, 3rd, and 4th all time. The world record of 2:54.29 — set by the US in 1993 — survives, but barely. All three anchors were shoulder to shoulder on the final bend before Botswana's Collen Kebinatshipi pulled away with what witnesses described as otherworldly closing speed.- The split that turned heads: South African sprinter Lythe Pillay ran a 42.66 relay split — a stunning leg for an athlete whose individual PB coming in was 44.31.- The lane 3 controversy Another story emerged from Day 1 of the World Relays — and it's a troubling one. Belgian coach Bram Peters posted photographic evidence that the starting line for lane 3 in the 4x400m heats was incorrectly placed, meaning teams in that lane ran short of the full 400 meters.- Why USATF skipped the men's and women's 4x400m – USATF didn't send men's or women's 4x400 teams to Gaborone — and the reasoning is more logical than it might seem.- Allyson Felix announces comeback – Felix announced via TIME that she's coming out of retirement to pursue the 2028 LA Olympics at 42, calling it “Project Six.” Felix's last season best was 50.71 at age 36 in 2022.Mentioned in this episode: These are the questions I would ask the Enhanced Games … if they would let me by Sean Ingle via The Guardian____________Hosts: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez + Preet Majithia | @preet_athletics Produced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: Xendurance Protein is designed specifically to help your body recover, rebuild, and get stronger after training. The takeaway from this week's sports and pop culture news is that love isn't real. It's been a crazy three weeks for Des and Kara, and now they are happy to be home and sleeping in their own beds with their Lagoon pillows. In this episode, they recap all that was the London Marathon from their live pod with Cynthia Erivo to Des's run with CB to the blazing-fast elite races. Of course, they keep it real with their takes on the sub 2 and the women's only WR. Some of you (guys in particular) might not like their takes, but that's why we love them. They call it like they see it! Plus, they share their perspectives on the shocking 2:05 race at the Glass City Marathon in Toledo, including the fun implications for the men's marathon trials in 2028. Hello Vinny Mauri... welcome to the scene with a US debut record! Thank you to our sponsors for this episode: Ketone-IQ and Lagoon Sleep. In this episode of Hurdle, host Emily sits down with professional runner Jess McClain fresh off her monumental performance as the top American finisher at the 2026 Boston Marathon. Recorded in London, where the duo got to run in the upcoming Brooks' upcoming Hyperion Elite 6 and cheer at the 2026 London Marathon, Jess unpacks the physical and mental evolution required to clock a personal best of 2:20:49 on one of the world's most challenging courses. From navigating the "what if" game to handling mid-race mishaps like dropping a fueling bottle, Jess shares a grounded, authentic perspective on what it means to find joy in professional sport. IN THIS EPISODE The Boston Breakthrough: Jess breaks down her strategy for the "Crest of Heartbreak Hill" and how her focus on downhill training and pace changes paid off in the final 10K. Silencing the "What If" Game: A deep dive into the mental shift Jess made during training—moving away from obsessing over variables she couldn’t control and focusing on being 1% better incrementally. Resilience Under Pressure: Jess reflects on the chaos of the Half Marathon Championships where she was directed the wrong way, and how that experience actually built her confidence for the high-stakes friction of Boston. Life Beyond the Miles: An honest conversation about the "other things" that bring joy, including Jess's experience with egg freezing, her thoughts on family planning, and the importance of a supportive partner who sees her greatness. The "My Way" Philosophy: Why Jess decided to stop trying to be a "robotic" athlete and instead leaned into her own unique rhythm, finding that her way is the best way for her. QUOTABLE MOMENTS "I think it’s being okay where you’re at and doing the most that you can day-to-day, week-to-week, to just be 1% better incrementally and not put so much pressure on the big dream." "I spent so much time being told that I shouldn't do anything else... that I'm not dedicated enough. And it's just so not true. You can plan for your future and still have a really kick-ass time running and racing at a high level." "Running's not going to go well all the time. You should be able to tap into other things that bring you joy." "I’ve put my health and the 'fun meter' on the front burner. It feels good to be like, my way is the best way for me, instead of trying to fit myself into so many different molds." We made an unfortunate impulse purchase (you'll see) before this great episode! The main topic revolved around the world records at the London Marathon, including Sebastian Sawe's 1:59:30 winning time. We discuss his mid-race fueling, bicarb use, shoes, and so much more. Plus, there was an important study measuring the differences in mechanical output between sprints, strides, and plyometrics. This study could be the missing link that identifies why strides are such a ubiquitous part of elite training approaches. And there were tons of fun topics! Other topics: the purchase David is not proud of, a game theory hypothetical, a high-carb case study, the amazing Women's Gear Index, luxury gear, an existential question on life and training, a potential treadmill study, barefoot shoes, iron dosing theories, and lots more. Come for the carb talk, stay for the knowledge that David will occasionally have the worst takes you have ever heard. We take back every thought we head about pressing the red button. We love you all! “No clocks on the course. I had average pace and current pace on my watch, nothing else. I popped into the finishing stadium and I thought the clock said 2:09. Then two seconds later I realized it said 2:05. I was like: what is going on today?”My guest for today's episode is Vincent Mauri. You're probably wondering: Who?! Well, we'll answer that question in the next hour.On Sunday morning in Toledo, Ohio, the 24-year-old biomedical engineering graduate and shoe store employee from Youngstown ran 2:05:53 in his marathon debut. He has no agent. No sponsor. There's no half marathon results on his resume. No coach. His last tracked competitive result was a 5K at the ACC Championships in 2025 where he got lapped by Ethan Strand and Gary Martin. And the race he ran on Sunday only existed because the one he originally signed up for got canceled three days out.Vinny trained himself, entirely, averaging 110 miles a week, two big sessions, a long Sunday run and a double threshold Tuesday, a lot of work on treadmills at Planet Fitness through a brutal Ohio winter and doing almost all of it in non-super shoes. He built his training philosophy from fragments of five different college coaches, leaned heavily on weight training and fueling discipline that had broken him in college. On race day, ran a race with no clocks, no pace group, no rabbit, and no idea he was running 2:05 until the finishing stadium clock told him so. Vinny walks through the entire arc from his time at Arizona State and Notre Dame, the coaching changes, the injuries, the post-college reset at the shoe store, the training block that nobody was watching, and the race itself. We also get into the immediate aftermath with people online trying to process this in real time, him reaching out to USADA himself and what he thinks he actually needs to take this from a stunning debut to a sustainable elite career.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavezGuest: Vincent Mauri | @vinny.mauriProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: When you finish a hard workout, the work isn't actually done. “The difference between confidence and arrogance is evidence. Boston gave me the ability to train like a 2:04 guy without it being irrational. That's the greatest thing this race could have done for me.”My guest for today's episode is Charles Hicks: the 24-year-old Nike athlete, Stanford alum and former NCAA Cross Country Champion who just ran 2:04:35 at the 2026 Boston Marathon. That's the second-fastest marathon ever run by an American and it's only his second marathon. He did the entire build on simulated altitude — not a single breath of real mountain air outside of a layover in Denver — which may make him the fastest sea-level-trained marathoner in history.Charles turned to the marathon two years ago, not at his own suggestion but at coach Jerry Schumacher's. He ran 13:09 for 5K in his first year as a pro, looked too comfortable in his long runs, and Jerry pulled him aside and said: I think this is the event. What followed was a nine-month racing gap, the Cherry Blossom 10-miler that validated everything, a 2:09 New York debut without a watch where he negative-split the course, and then Boston. In this conversation, Charles breaks down the full arc of how we got here — his COVID-era decision to just run 12 miles every single day in the Florida heat, his framework for thinking about volume as a decade-long project, the Nike prototype shoe, the famous heart rate mystery on Strava, and what it actually felt like to see 2:03 on the homestretch when he'd gone in thinking 2:06 would be a phenomenal day.He also tells us whether the track door is shut, what he thinks about Chicago versus New York for this fall, and what the difference is between confidence and arrogance.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavezGuest: Charles Hicks | @_charleshicksProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: When you finish a hard workout, the work isn't actually done.
