We have a very special guest today who has been a part of some very impressive playoff runs in recent years. He is now the Head Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator at Tomball High School - welcome Dave Handal to the show! - Coach describes the pride of growing up in Lake Highlands, TX, the rivalry with the legendary Plano Wildcats, and the 5 Lake Highlands alums who are currently Head Coaches at premier football programs. - After graduating from Texas A&M where he was a self-proclaimed Intramural All-American, Dave earned an internship that soured him to "America's Team" and led him to embark on a successful career in coaching!! - It was during his time as Head Coach at Galena Park that Dave and Coach Kovo sparked up a friendship over working together to try to overcome similar challenges. After a great time at Galena Park, Coach moved on to become Defensive Coordinator at Tomball HS where he got to be a part of an amazing State Semifinal run that no one outside that Fieldhouse saw coming - made even more sweet by getting to share it with his youngest son who was the starting Middle Linebacker. - Coach shares some gems about how he learned to get past the mindset that your worth as a coach is defined solely by that score on the scoreboard, plus as a noted funny guy Coach Handal holds court by sharing some great stories of the funny encounters that seem to follow him, including coaching future 3x All-American Gonzaga Basketball Player Drew Timme as a kindergartner! - Finally as the consummate Texas Rangers fan we get Coach Handal's all-time Ranger Mount Rushmore, along with a fun Mavs Start-Bench-Cut with legendary names like Nowitzki, Doncic, and Nash! #bengals Cincinnati Bengals middle linebacker Logan Wilson joins Dave Lapham in the Trenches today brought to you by First Star Logistics. Logan is coming off two amazing seasons where he has excelled as a young player in the NFL. The 2023 season is a big season for Logan because it's the final year of his contract so he will try to play his best to earn the most money possible for his next contract. Logan and Bengals have already begun contract negotiations but will most likely be on hold until the Bengals figure out Joe Burrow's contract first. Wilson isn't focused on his contract though he is focused on being the leader of one of the best defenses in the NFL. With Jessie Bates leaving in free agency Wilson will have to step up and be the quarterback of this very strong defense. Lapham and Wilson talk about his defense back upbringing and how that has helped him be one of the best cover linebackers in the NFL. Wilson also shows high praise for defense coordinator Lou Anarumo who has made a name for himself the past two seasons and if the Bengals defense has another strong year in 2023 you figure it will be hard to keep teams away from Lou as their head coach in the years to come.

The guys talk about the key players on the defence, such as Patrick Queen (YAAAAASSS QUEEN) who's flipped the script on his season after moving from Middle Linebacker to Will Linebacker, Tyus Bowser and UKRavens podcast favourite, Odafe Oweh (MAN!). Oh, and thank the lord for Justin Tucker. And, Shelby downplays the revolving door at Middle Linebacker, specifically, the play caller, but does have a slightly shocking admission about the safeties in the defense and their responsibilities (28:25). Shelby also shares what his favorite gaming console is, and where he comes down on getting Holiday decorations up early.
The New York Giants hadn't won an NFL championship in 30 years before Bill Parcells' led them to two Super Bowl victories in 5 years. 1986 the Giants were loaded. On defense, Lawrence Taylor, considered by many to be the best Outside Linebacker ever to play the game, won the NFL MVP Award. He and Middle Linebacker, Harry Carson, both future Hall of Famers, led an overwhelming defense. On offense, the Giants were led by Tight End Mark Bavaro, 1500 yard rusher, Joe Morris and Quarterback Phil Simms, a good quarterback who had yet to prove he could be great. In Super Bowl XXI he did just that with a precision passing game that is unmatched as the Giants defeated the Broncos 39-20.
On today's edition of The Daily Tap, Charlie discusses why people overvalue middle linebackers in today's NFL. He explains why losing Kamal Martin isn't that big of a deal, and why the safety is becoming the new middle linebacker (0-12 minutes). Charlie talks about the Brewers' power rankings as they sit at the five spots. Will anyone take down the Dodgers? What about the pesky Giants? And what is on deck for the Brewers this week (12-24 minutes). Lastly, Charlie talks about the unpredictable New Orleans Saints (24-30 mins).

Kristian is a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. He is from Iola, Wisconsin and played for the Hawkeyes in '16-'19. He found early playing time as an athletic special teamer and played in over 40 games in the Black and Gold. In his Junior and Senior seasons he started at Middle Linebacker for Iowa teams that finished 9-4 and 10-3 including 2 Bowl victories over Mississippi St. and USC. We sat down with Kristian to talk his journey to Iowa City, Coach Seth Wallace, learning behind guys like Josey Jewell, Bo Bower, and Ben Niemann, being denied a Pro Day and entering the league during Covid, being on a team with Lamar Jackson and other elite NFL players, and more. The mindset of being 'overlooked' is present throughout his story and it was awesome to pick his brain on how he approaches being a fringe guy that works his ass off to make it.

"When you watch a basketball game or play in a game of any sport or watch football game, who do you cheer for? Well, I always cheer for the underdog. And I don't know what it is inside of me but every time anybody plays, I'll look for the team that's not supposed to win and I just begin to cheer for that team like they're my team. And when they come back and win, it's the greatest thing in the world." Family Discussion: Which side are we on? God's or Satan's? Transcription: 00:13 When you watch a basketball game or play in a game of any sport or watch football game, who do you cheer for? Well, I always cheer for the underdog. And I don't know what it is inside of me but every time anybody plays, I'll look for the team that's not supposed to win and I just begin to cheer for that team like they're my team. And when they come back and win, it's the greatest thing in the world. Listen to this victory. Listen to who wins in this passage in Revelation 17:14-17. It looks like Satan is going to win. It looks like the enemy is going to take over the whole earth. But look at the comeback. 17:14-17 scripture says this, "these will wage war against the lamb and the lamb will overcome them because He is Lord of Lords and the King of Kings and those who are with him are the called and the chosen and the faithful. And he said to me, the waters which you saw where the harlot sits are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues, and the 10 horns which you saw are the beast. These will hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire. For God has put in his heart to execute his purpose by having a common purpose and by giving their kingdom to the beast until the words of God will be fulfilled." 01:41 Let me tell you about the day that Razorback stadium was silent. The craziest, wildest fans in the United States of America are the Arkansas Razorbacks. We were playing the Razorback in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. And I literally walked on the field and I felt the earth shake underneath my feet. They were number two in the nation that year. And you know what? They jumped out to a 35 to nothing lead over our little SMU team and we were getting killed. 02:08 But Bruce Portillo stepped into the huddle, our Middle Linebacker, and he said, come on guys, we can stop these people. And I don't know what it was about Bruce Portillo, but he had something charismatic about him. And you know what, they didn't make another first down. There are only 10 minutes left on the clock and we scored four straight touchdowns. And even though if we would've gotten the ball one more time, we would've beat those people. We didn't. We lost 35 to 28. We won an incredible victory that day. The day when razorback stadium was silenced. And so it will be with the work of Satan. And he is literally taking over the earth today as our nation has decided to kick him out of everything that we do. Kicking him out of prayer schools and Bible reading schools. 02:59 And it take a God and His name out of public life where you can't even put a manger scene, you know, out in a public place or put a cross in a tribute to a soldier. It looks like Satan is taking over the world, but he's not. And at the end, Jesus is going to win. Jesus is going to reign because Jesus is going to overcome. And those who love him and follow him are gonna reign with him forever and ever. And so the question for you and I today is, which side are we own? You know, Jesus said, no man can serve two masters. Either you love the one and hate the other, or you'll serve the one and despise the other. He says, you can't serve God and Mammon in chapter five of Matthew. So which side of your on? He said, either you're for me or you're against me and today you and I get to choose sides. He looks like the underdog, but I'll tell you he's going to win in the end.

This week Bunnie welcomes Shelby, Middle Linebacker for the super popular women’s football team, the Nashville Knights. She’s gorgeous, athletic, and not afraid to tackle you right to the ground. She and Bunnie talk about what inspired her to partake in such a dangerous game, how she really feels about wearing those short shorts, what it’s really like to be in a rough sport like football, and they answer some listener questions about dating advice and toxic exes. Takeaways: The Nashville Knights are a women's American football team of the Legends Football League based in Nashville, Tennessee. Shelby is the bad ass middle linebacker, and the lucky #13 on the team. Bunnie tried out for the team and loved meeting all the rad chicks even though she ended up not playing. The Legends Football League girls don’t wear lingerie anymore, but they love wearing their small shorts. They can still be hot and kick major ass. These girls are super competitors and great athletes. Don’t let just how beautiful they are fool you. Pro tip: if you can’t dance, just jingle and jangle around and no one will know the difference. Shelby is an all around athlete and has done dance, wrestling and jiu jitsu. Trying out for the Knights was the first time, and not getting in just made the competitor inside of her want to try even harder. Hot dudes of Nashville take notice — Shelby is available for love and needs a squish, not just a tourist. Communication, respect, and a united front with your partner are super important qualities when raising children, whether they are yours or not. J loves it when you call him Daddy Roll! No it’s not emotionally challenging for Bunnie to share Daddy Roll with another girl. It’s always her calling the shots about threesomes, and she’s the first one to bring it up. People get addicted to toxicity! If he’s an ex, he’s an ex for a reason. You can’t make someone be better, they have to do it on their own. Quotes: “I beat up everybody on the dance team.” “Maybe that’s why I like football — I’m not dating.” “She may sound like Yosemite Sam sometimes, but she’s f*ckin adorable.” “I don’t think I’ve had a threesome that wasn’t my idea.” “Don’t be a Captain Save a Dude. Ever.” “If we can hide that we have no eyebrows, don’t you think us ladies can hide our red flags too?!” Mentioned: Nashville Knights Nashville Knights Tickets - use promo code: NK13 The LFHell @carolinexshelby Check out Bunnie: @xomgitsbunnie BunnieXo @officialdumbblonde

The Redskins marched out of the 'Clink' in Seattle victorious in an unlikely 17-14 win. So how did they do it? Well, a huge part of that was the astounding level of play of the Washington defense. But don't take our word for it... Joining hosts Chad Ryan and Mark Phillips on today's episode is Redskins Linebacker Mason Foster (@Mason_Foster), who continues his adjustment from suiting up in the burgundy and gold on Sundays to becoming a live game analyst on social media now that he's on the Injured Reserve list. How much does the defensive game plan need to adjust when key players are out injured? How much does the defensive playbook open or shut when facing a mobile Quarterback like Russell Wilson, compared to a guy coming up on the schedule this week in Case Keenum? And what was it like playing Middle Linebacker behind Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis? All those questions and more were discussed as Mason Foster took us behind the curtains and gave us a great look into what it takes to play defense at the highest level. Plus Chad goes into detail about his post-game comments regarding Kirk Cousins that attracted so much attention on Twitter, and as always, the game MVP 3-2-1 votes are allocated. All that and more on another huge episode of Redskins Capital Connection.
