Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that hates Gay Halloween. What do you mean you're Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as Madeline Ashton and Helen Sharp at Ernest's funeral? This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out and talk about why the 1992 satirical body horror-comedy Death Becomes Her Should've Been Gay. Although not everything in this film ages well (that fat suit was 100% not okay), the overall campiness and pure diva star power of Meryl and Goldie sharing the screen make this a must-watch in our books.  Death Becomes Her feels like a love letter for every sapphic who never got over that one really intense love/hate homoerotic friendship they had growing up. From the beginning, the entire plot revolves around Helen's overwhelming obsession with Madeline. It has been 7 years, and all Helen has thought about every single day is Madeline. While it may seem at first glance like the obsession is one-sided, Madeline clearly loves playing the games and entertaining the stalking just as much as Helen. Why is she only going after men who have literally been inside Helen? She's being SO loud.  In a wonderfully anti-BYG way, instead of Madeline or Helen dying in their eventual attempts to kill each other, they both live thanks to each having consumed a mysterious immortality potion. Though their bodies are horrifically wrecked and require a lot of maintenance not to look as dead as they are, the two have essentially bound themselves together for eternity. They go directly from hating each other to U-Hauling in the blink of an eye. By the time we see them attend Ernest's funeral at the end of the film, Madeline and Helen are openly acting like an old married couple.  We know one thing for sure, Death Becomes Her Should've Been Gay. Nel cuore dell'agosto del '69, a Parigi Archie Shepp si sottopone, per la felicità della Byg, ad un autentico tour de force: dall'11 al 18 agosto è tutti i giorni in studio, incidendo a proprio nome il trittico di album che farà epoca, o partecipando alla registrazione di album intestati ad altri. L'estate parigina delle Byg vuole essere una celebrazione del free jazz, che però in realtà nel '69 è al canto del cigno, e di questa fase del free jazz storico i tre album realizzati a da Shepp a Parigi sono emblematici. L'ultimo è Blasé. Con Shepp c'è una meravigliosa Jeanne Lee, che dal '57 ha dato vita con Ran Blake ad un sublime duo voce/pianoforte, a cui però i club e i festival di jazz americani sono rimasti insensibili; così nel '66, dopo essere venuta in Europa per concerti con Blake, Jeanne Lee ha deciso di fermarsi nel Vecchio Continente, ed è in Europa che ha incontrato la free music, attraverso gli improvvisatori olandesi e tedeschi. Con lei, magistrale nell'interpretazione del crudo testo di Shepp nel brano da cui l'album prenderà il titolo, Shepp sigla un trittico di album che rappresenta un momento altissimo della sua vicenda artistica e di tutta la stagione del free jazz.

Attiva per una breve fase, a cavallo fra anni sessanta e settanta, la Byg è un'etichetta leggendaria, che nell'estate del '69 a Parigi, con una coda nei mesi successivi e anche nel '70, registrò una grande messe di album fondamentali per la documentazione dell'ultima fase della stagione del free jazz storico e della prima fase del post-free. Il catalogo della Byg è adesso oggetto di una organica operazione di ristampe, che ha come produttore esecutivo Jean-Luc Young, uno dei tre fondatori, nel '67, dell'etichetta destinata a diventare mitica: rimasterizzati, gli album sono ripubblicati in Cd e vinile, con una rivisitazione della grafica rispettosa di quella originale, e con il corredo di nuove note di copertina. Attraverso queste ristampe, con questa puntata - in cui ricostruiamo la vicenda della Byg dal '67 al '69 - cominciamo a ripercorrere alcuni dei titoli più importanti pubblicati dalla Byg: partiamo dal primo album, Yasmina, a black woman, del celebre trittico registrato da Archie Shepp, alfiere della new thing, nel corso del bollente agosto parigino del free, quando, in un momento irripetibile, nella capitale francese si incontrarono musicisti dell'avanguardia afroamericana provenineti dagli Stati Uniti, altri - come Shepp - reduci dal Festival Panafricano di Algeri, jazzisti di precedenti generazioni espatriati in Europa, e protagonisti del nuovo jazz francese ed europeo.

If you're wondering how we have survived for 6 seasons, it's because of the Mycelium. This week Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with actor Taylor Hickson (@taylor.hickson), who you may recognize as the one and only Raelle Collar, the unkillable Witchbomb of Motherland: Fort Salem. This episode was recorded early into Season 3, so it is relatively spoiler free if you have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing the explosive finale. We talk to Taylor about the casting process, her incredible chemistry with Amalia, what it was like to grow up alongside Raelle, and how her real life car accident changed things for our favorite witches in Season 3. Taylor explains that she was only around 20 years old when she began filming for Motherland and how because of that, there were countless parallels between her own growth and Raelle's. She shares how much she has learned from being part of such an important and influential queer ship (Raylla) and how it has influenced her in both her personal and professional life. We talk about what it was like to film that first sex scene with Amalia after only knowing her for a short time and how they have both continually managed to bring so much honesty and vulnerability into their on-screen relationship. Taylor shares how important the show has been not only to the fans, but to the cast and crew who formed a family during the uncertainty and isolation of the pandemic. We discuss the importance of having an “unkillable gay” in the face of the BYG trope and how vital the show has been by providing so many layers of representation for so many fans. And of course, we can't help but talk to Taylor about Bellcollar (listen to find out the ship name she and Ashley use for themselves) and Talder too, who she proudly claims to have been a big fan of from the start. Gays of the Union unite! Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are back for a sixth season of the little lesbian podcast that could. We are excited to recap all the biggest gay moments from the past year. Almost every show we talk about has already been cancelled, but we need to talk about them anyway! We kick off with discussing First Kill which was absolutely feeding our Buffy roots. Lesbians will always love a vampire and we are absolutely here for the cheesiness of it all. Then, we get into Gentleman Jack which was completely chaotic lesbian drama the entire season. There is just nothing more relatable than having a totally unhinged ex that is perpetually in your life. Next we dive into Our Flag Means Death, which is everything we could want from a pirate show, because pirates are canonically gay and you cannot tell us otherwise. Then we get into Only Murders in the Building, which finally fulfills our gay dreams in Season 2 by putting Mabel together with Cara Delevingne's character. We are really loving this trend in recent media where the queerness is just accepted and not a big deal. No one really has to worry about coming out and the story doesn't revolve around that. We would be remiss if we didn't discuss Killing Eve and the catastrophic finale. Hvordan bliver du bedre til at kommunikere dit grønne budskab? Hvordan formulerer dig skarpt og tydeligt med størst kraft og indvirkning? Og hvordan får du mennesker til at følge dig i tykt og tyndt? Lyt med når Steffen Max Høgh interviewer forfatter og antropolog Rune Kier. Rune Kier, som har arbejdet som taleskriver for adskillige politikere, har udgivet bogen ”Klimataler – Aktivistens guide til taleskrivning for en bedre fremtid”. Han har et spændende perspektiv på klimakommunikation, og i denne podcast giver han gode råd til dig, der gerne vil brænde igennem med dit grønne budskab, krydret med anekdoter om nogle af verdens bedste talere og hvilke virkemidler, de har brugt for at få skabt forandring. De ni gode råd fra Rune Kier: 1. Du må gerne bruge følelser. Vi har altid kommunikeret med følelser og man kan ikke bare ”sortere” følelserne fra, når det handler om klima. Følelser handler også om passion og om at brænde for noget. 2. Vær tro mod dit verdenssyn. Handler om at bruge de rigtige ord. Sig ikke ”Climate Change” men sig det, som det er: ”Climate Emergency”. 3. Find inspiration i fortiden. Alles øjne er lige nu rettet mod fremtiden. Men du kan faktisk godt lære af fortiden. 4. Byg en gylden bro. Hvis du gerne vil skabe konsensus og have folk til at skifte mening eller have en anden holdning til klimakrisen end den de har nu, skal du gøre det så let som muligt for andre at skifte mening. 5. Fortæl om din egen vej. Fortæl om dine egne, personlige dilemmaer i klimakrisen. Hvis du elsker en stor, saftig, rød bøf, så fortæl hvordan det også er svært for dig, og hvordan du har udviklet dig. Der er ikke mange, der bliver inspireret af frelste klimakrigere – dem der inspirerer mest, er faktisk dem, der har det svært med at være klimavenlige. 6. Forpligt på forandring. Hvordan får du folk til at tage action og gøre noget anderledes? Hvordan får du som leder medarbejdere med på at skabe forandring? 7. The One Ring. Handler om at være konsistent og konsekvent i din kommunikation. At have ét budskab og fokusere på det. Et gammelt taleskriverråd siger: Du skal ikke fokusere på alt det, dit publikum skal vide – du skal fokusere på den ene ting, de skal huske. 8. Lyd som en leder. Det mere klassisk, retoriske kapitel i bogen. Handler om at tage ved lære af de store retorikere gennem tiden, så folk får lyst til at følge dig som leder. Og hvorfor Patos, Etos og Logos stadig er enormt vigtige, når du skal holde tale. 9. Gør dit budskab delbart. Et mere moderne budskab her i den digitale tidsalder: Rune Kier synes det er synd, at der er så mange taler, der bliver forberedt grundigt, skrevet ned på papir – og så glemt. Det burde optages, bearbejdes og så deles med en masse andre mennesker. For disse budskaber kan godt skabe forandring. Ikke langt fra Middelalderparken, rett rundt hjørne for det gamle trehuset der bøddelen bodde i sin tid, treffer vi Jannicke Kråkvik hjemme. Bygården fra slutten av 1800-tallet oser av hyggelig naboskap, men er litt røff når det kommer til vedlikehold og oppleves derfor som en stor kontrast til Jannickes leilighet. Hun har bodd her sammen med sin italienske mann i mange år, men totalrenoverte først for fire år siden. Da snudde de om på planløsningen, fikk inn kjøkkenet de hadde ventet på i to år, og lagde et spennende bad som de rett og slett lengter hjem til hver gang de er ute og reiser. Jannicke er ingen hvem som helst når det kommer til å innrede og velge både farger, møbler og funksjonelle gjenstander. Sammen med mannen sin jobber hun med å skape interiører for foto til reklamemateriell, utformer utstillinger og mye mer. Som du skjønner er hjemmet hennes vel verdt et besøk. If government can be bought, how am I supposed to buy the idea of a reliable government? 2. How do people like the Esselstyns, Dr Campbell, and others not fall into the Ego Trap re: plant based eating? 3. Would you do a show addressing dating between men and women who are past their baby-making years? Those in their fifties and sixties or older who are widowed or divorced. As a 62 year old widow it seems most men just want something casual with no commitment. I want a commited partner. Any advice?   4. Last week I was crushed to hear Dr. Lisle say he is dead from an evolutionary prospective. As a an avid follower of Dr L, Dr H and BYG, this active 75 yr old woman is finished with with reproduction but still desiring social contact and certainly not ready to retreat from the village. I would love to hear you address the social needs of seniors who are open extroverts.

In the last live episode of 2020, Dr. Howk and Dr. Lisle discuss: 1. I am in my mid forties and for almost my whole life I have been a strong advocate of much stricter controls of driving, smoking and drinking. Literally my only disclaimer is that I understand controls may lead the behaviour to go underground and so you'd have to allow for that. Otherwise: Bring on the controls of these dangerous activities!  I personally do not own a car, do not smoke and do not drink by the way. Others seem not to feel the same and often strongly say the deaths are an acceptable cost to the ongoing enjoyment of smoking, drinking and relatively unsafe driving.  How fantastic that everyone's cost-benefit-analysis has suddenly shifted so far to now accept infringements on personal behaviour to prevent covid deaths? I say "welcome to the saving lives party; I have been here enjoying it for many years and I welcome you. Perhaps now you are ready to save a few more million lives with some relatively minor additional infringements of personal liberty? Perhaps we could look at driving, smoking and drinking?" Muttered replies ensue. "Oh wait," I say, "covid is special? I've looked at the statistics and yes maybe it is. It seems to be by far the least dangerous of the four and yet we're doing much more about it. Wierd." 2. BYG listeners are sophisticated enough to recognize that and video games represent "supernormal stimuli" that can be problematic because they ultimately get in the way of achieving meaningful goals. But if we are really honest with ourselves, wouldn't we admit that dogs and cats are really just another form of this counterproductive "supernormal stimuli" - meaning that they tickle the reward pathways meant to incentivize family formation but could possible inhibit us from doing the work to form meaningful bonds/offspring with potential mates.

I am educated and have a great job. Since I have graduated college I have had an extremely difficult time with dating.  2. If I slept with someone that I like too soon and they are showing less interest in me is there a way to get their interest back? I remember one episode you mentioned looking your best was a way to do this which I am working on losing some weight. Are there any pyschological mind tactics I can practice in the mean time? If someone is actively ignoring you is it best to do the same? 3.  I have a question regarding the full moon on the female psyche The Mother of my two children becomes more abusive and more unstable during a full moon. Generally she is a pretty tricky person to deal with and tripping over some petty little trap opens a gate for verbal and sometimes physical abuse.  She often blames the full moon or PMS for these episodes but she is rarely a picnic in the park in between.  My question is whether there is any validity in the claim that the full moon has on anyone's psychology or is it just an excuse for bad behaviour and just some new age hippy nonsense for people who are high in openness. 4. What advice would you give to a female who is being stalked? 5. Is it reasonable to suggest that modern third-wave feminism is now about confusing males about the dominance hierarchy and their own sexual selection criteria, so as to turn them into being beta males?  To find out more about Dr. Howk or to book a phone consult, visit www.JenHowk.com
