Purchase Fred Diamond's best-sellers Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know and Insights for Sales Game Changers now! Today's show featured an interview with James Muir, author of “Unsticking Deals,” and his colleague Patti Peets, Chief Revenue Officer, Unislink. JAMES' TIP: “Be a domain expert in addition to being a sales expert. If you're a new salesperson, what that means is you need to master your industry so well that if the person that you sell to said, “Hey, I'm going to be gone for a month, could you come in and sit in and do my job for me for a month while I'm on vacation?” If you can say you can do that, then you've learned enough about your industry. Until you can say that, you need to keep grinding until you understand that, because what's going to happen is the credibility that you'll have with clients when you're with them will go off the charts.” PATTI'S TIP: “Really go through every deal in your pipeline. If it's been in that stage for more than 14 days maybe, or 21 days, you should go through that list of questions to really score yourself and be honest with yourself, and then admit this deal is stuck. Then put a plan together, follow some of those methods and techniques that James offers up, and watch what happens. You will have deals that literally unstick, and maybe not every deal, but you will have deals that get unstuck by following this process.”

The Twenty Minute VC: Venture Capital | Startup Funding | The Pitch
Chad Peets is one of the greatest sales leaders and recruiters of the last 25 years. From 2018 to 2023, Chad was a Managing Director at Sutter Hill Ventures. Chad has worked with the world's best CEOs and CROs to build world-class go-to-market organizations. Chad is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Lacework and Luminary Cloud and on the boards of Clumio and Sigma Computing. He previously served as a board member for Astronomer, Transposit, and others. He was an early-stage investor at Snowflake, Sigma, Observe, Lacework, and Clumio. In Today's Discussion with Chad Peet's We Discuss: 1. You Need a CRO Pre-Product: Why does Chad believe that SaaS companies need a CRO pre-product? Should the founder not be the right person to create the sales playbook? What should the founder look for in their first CRO hire? Does any great CRO really want to go back to an early startup and do it again? 2. What Everyone Gets Wrong in Building Sales Teams: Why are most sales reps not performing? How long does it take for sales teams to ramp? How does this change with PLG and enterprise? What are the benchmarks of good vs great for average sales reps? How do founders and VCs most often hurt their sales teams and performance? 3. How to Build a Hiring Machine: What are the single biggest mistakes people make when hiring sales reps and teams? Are sales people money motivated? How to create comp plans that incentivise and align? Why does Chad believe that any sales rep that does not want to be in the office, is not putting their career and development first? Why is it harder than ever to recruit great sales leaders today? 4. Lessons from Scaling Sales at Snowflake: What are the single biggest lessons of what worked from scaling Snowflake's sales team? What did not work? What would he do differently with the team again? What did Snowflake teach Chad about success and culture and how they interplay together?

In this episode, we share the audio from a breakout session at STS Rhode Island. One of New England's early settlers, Anne Bradstreet left behind her comfortable life in England for the wilderness of Massachusetts. Though she would become America's first published poet, her most important roles were as devoted wife, nurturing mother, and committed saint. Through infertility, loss, fear, and pain, Bradstreet demonstrated faith and faithfulness. Nearly 400 years later, let Bradstreet's life and poetry instruct you, her Christian sisters, how to live and minister in small-town New England. Heather Peets is a pastor's wife, mom of five, and teacher. She and her family live in Vermont where her husband pastors a small but committed congregation. For nearly fifteen years, Heather has served in educational ministry as a teacher in Christian colleges and schools. Currently, she teaches English at Mid Vermont Christian School where she enjoys sharing life lessons and theological truths through literature. KPFA theatre critic Richard Wolinsky discusses the year in theatre in the Bay Area in 2023, plus a top ten list and two honorable mentions. Text of the podcast. In the Bay Area, Live theatre companies continued in 2023 to adapt to the post-Covid world. While movie audience sizes seems to be returning to pre-pandemic numbers. live theater remains mostly on life support across the board, mainly because season subscriptions are down by at least a third or maybe more, which means theatergoers are buying tickets on a show by show basis. That makes planning difficult, and it also means artistic directors are less likely to produce shows that are more challenging in favor of audiences pleasers such as musicals, comedies, and most importantly, the warhorses that folks are willing to see over and over again. The great multi-theatre venue, Piano Fight, in the Tenderloin closed its doors in March, leaving a host of younger theatregoers bereft. Bay Area Musicals didn't survive the pandemic, and its successor Landmark Musicals did not get past 2023. Marin Theatre Company, ACT, and the Magic have had truncated seasons, and Cal Shakes chose not to have a season at all. Custom Made is on life support and may never return. But there was still quite a bit of quality theatergoing to be had in the plastic year, and here are ten examples fin no particular order. Clyde's, a former Tony nominee by Lynn Nottage had a sensational production at Berkeley Rep's Peets theatre. As did the creepy and scary Let the Right One in at Berkeley Rep's Roda Theatre. Margo Hall was phenomenal in Josephine's Feast over at the Magic, and it doesn't get any better than J. Jha in Gertha Reddy's adaptation of the Mahabharata at Z Space, co-produced by the Oakland Theatre Project. Poor Yella Rednecks, Vietgone II at ACT's Strand Theatre looked at a Vietnamese refugee family in America, and Cambodian Rock Band at ACT focused on the generational aftermath of the Killing Fields and the Cambodian Genocide. Then there was Nollywood Dreams, a screamingly funny look at the Nigerian film industry, and Billy Crudup's brilliant performance in Harry Clarke at Berkeley Rep's Roda Theatre. Rounding out the top ten are San Francisco Playhouse's brilliant production of A Chorus Line, and the very weird, funny and horrifying Locusts Have No King at New Conservatory Theatre. A couple of honorary mentions go to Kander and Ebb's brilliant The Scottsboro Boys at 42nd Street Moon, and William Finn's 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at TheatreWorks. The last few years have seen an increase in union organizing and employee protests in non-traditional areas – retail, tech, cannabis dispensaries, college campuses, non-profits. We also saw a spike in the number of strikes in 2022. Organizing has definitely been in the news as well-known employers have experienced organizing campaigns – Starbucks, Amazon, Trader Joe's, Apple retail stores, Peets coffee etc. What does “union organizing” mean? Why are employees seeking assistance from unions? Why might they be willing to strike? Do employees have rights to act together even without a union?YLR Host is joined tonight by Jill Coffman, Regional Director of The National Labor Relations Board, Beth Mora of Mora Employment Law, Thomas Lenz, a partner at Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo in Pasadena, Ca, and Jill Coffman, Regional Director of The National Labor Relations Board.Questions for Jeff's guests? But every time you go into a situation, it's a unique situation so you're gonna have to tweak and make changes to that playbook to adjust, if you will, for the company that you're in, the market that you're in, the product that you're selling, etc.”Chad: "You have to be focused on the long-term and building out world class sales organizations. In this episode, Kenneth sits down with Stephen Tribble to discuss the waves of coffee. Or to put it another way, they discuss the different types of coffee that have been developed and enjoyed during each era. This episode covers pre-wave, first, second, third and fourth wave coffee. They explain when each wave started, how the product was presented, prepared, and enjoyed. Finishing the episode by discussing the fourth wave, which is just starting to emerge and evolve. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most people do not know what a coffee wave is. During the podcast, Kenneth explains what the term means. The first wave started during the late stages of the industrial revolution, with roasted and pre-ground coffee. During the first wave, the aim was to make coffee more accessible. The second wave saw companies like Peets and Starbucks enter the market. During the second wave, there was more focus on taste. It was the second wave that pushed the industry forwards, and created the foundations for today´s coffee culture - especially the coffee shop culture. Light roasts only really took off during the third wave. Great tasting coffee has led to more people drinking their coffee without cream or sugar. The industry is now more interested in the science behind what makes a great coffee. There is still a lot of debate about what the fourth wave is. BEST MOMENTS ‘The waves are mainly a US thing. ´ ‘During the third wave, the roast is more towards a lighter roast.' ‘The third wave focuses more on the science of coffee.' Good Evening Fellow Gen X Enthusiasts, Well its almost the end of July 2021 and today Starchy and Johnny got together for a walk and was pleasantly surprised by the gathering of a European Sunday Cars and Coffee event taking place at their normal Peets Coffee spot in Roseville California at The Fountains in Roseville. They were able to chat with a few of the owners of fabled European cars both past and present. Later they discussed the benefits, longings, fantasies, and spending money on fuel additives to enjoy these cool and amazing cars. Our hosts discussed how many states that they have visited in their lives by either travelling by car and or aeroplane. Starchy shared a deep and longing desire to travel by car or RV throughout North America to see many portions of this great and spectacular country. The conversation then took many turns down a few twisty and windy roads. How many Peets does it take to run a brewery? Kettlerock Brewing in Peachtree Corners, GA is a family affair. When patriarch Stephen Peet retired in 2019 he figured the easiest way to relax was to build a brewery, and bring the whole crew with him. Stephen and Sterling Peet joined us on the show this week with Diana, Christa, Taylor, and Devon Peet holding down the fort. That's a lotta Peets. Stephen tells us the focus of the brewery is community, nature, and the environment. He recalls a slow time and the brewery a a handful of guests sat apart in pairs but soon started chatting with each other, and that's exactly what he hopes Kettlerock fosters. When Sterling isn't brewing, he's a rocket scientist at Georgia Tech's Space Systems Design Laboratory. He shares some of the projects they've worked on and tells us about CubeSats. We asked if he's launched any yeast or grain into space and we're disappointed that he hasn't. The Peets were also founding members of the PC Mashers homebrew club. If you've been following the show for a while you may recall Jay as the winner of our Homebrewer of the Year in 2018. Even though they've gone pro they still stay involved with the club. As we chat we get the story behind the Kettlerock name and each beer. We talk about working with the whole family, and the cozy vibe at the taproom. Those that think every new beer today is an IPA will be pleased that the taplist is pretty diverse with a Blonde Ale, Belgian Tripel, Kettle Sour, Seltzer, Wee Heavy, Milk Stout, and a couple of IPAs, of course. When you visit the brewery and order the Kettle Sour or Seltzer you'll get a basic, unflavored brew that you can add a flavored syrup to. As we sampled the sour we realized how long it's been since we've seen one that didn't have fruit in it. Although their beer is only available at the taproom right now they've recently purchased a canning line and will have some available in the market soon. Maybe we can talk Sterling into turning one of those cans into a CubeSat. Peet’s Coffee & Tea, which will celebrate its 55th anniversary this year, has more than 200 retail outlets and is sold in more than 14,000 grocery stores across the United States. The Boston Beer Company, whose best-known brew is Samuel Adams, was founded in 1984 and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company produces which produces beers, hard ciders, hard iced tea, spiked sparkling water, and high alcohol kombucha. Peet’s and Boston Brewing share a lot in common. Both companies began with a single visionary crafter. Both grew large by attracting a niche following of deeply loyal customers. And both saw fit, eventually, to ask Dave Burwick, a former executive at PepsiCo and Weight Watchers, to take charge of their businesses. When host and award-winning journalist Dean Rotbart interviewed Dave back in May 2016, he was president and CEO of Peet’s, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary. Today, Dave runs the Boston Beer Company, also serving as president and CEO. In both cases, Dave’s specialty, as he described it, is “scaling the smallness” — a method that allows businesses to remain true to their founding principles, while constantly keeping pace with the changing times. Dave's is a recipe for growth and success that every entrepreneur should know. Did you know that tea was never the beverage in England until the women folk slowly caught on it slowly as they perceived it to be a genteel drink (according to Peets.com) and that Ireland was the second-biggest per capita consumer of tea in the world?!!This week's phrase is the follow up to last week's "Behöver du hjälp?" (Do you need help?). If you are just window shopping or looking around, you say "Jag tittar bara." which means "I'm just looking." or "Saya tengok saja." in Bahasa Melayu.Wanna find out more about tea? KPFA theatre critic Richard Wolinsky reviews “Culture Clash (Still) in America” at Berkeley Rep through April 5, 2020. Text of review: No words quite exist that define the performance troupe Culture Clash. On one hand, the trio are masters of sketch comedy; they're also masters of political satire; and of cultural commentary; and of improve stand-up. All three members, Herbert Siguenza, Richard Montoya and Ric Salinas, also have worked over the past three decades as actors, and as writers. From their origins in the Mission District in San Francisco, they bring a culturally sensitive and street-smart attitude with an underpinning of what we now call Latinx culture, to an examination of American society that, as it turns out, hasn't changed all that much in thirty years. That is hasn't changed is evident in their new collection of sketches, Culture Clash, Still in America, based on their 2002 work, Culture Clash in AmeriCCa – which can be seen at Berkeley Rep's Peets Theatre through April 5th, directed by Lisa Peterson. Still in America opens as ICE agents interrogate a captured Latinx illegal immigrant, a sketch which soon expands into a tour that starts with a right-wing couple in Florida, and expands to include various ethnicities and gender identities. Most of the sketches are comedic, some rely on improv with the audience – and one in particular is a serious case-study of a harried and overwrought attorney for separated families and the problems he faces as he argues his cases and tries to bring children back to their parents. In the middle of an often uproarious collection of vignettes, it's utterly harrowing. The best, and funniest bit occurs about an hour into the show, as two older female sixties activists chatter about their lives in Berkeley today, slicing and dicing and name-dropping everything from the Berkeley Bowl to the Cheeseboard, to, you guessed it, KPFA. It's fall to the floor hysterical – but you have to listen quickly, or half of it will pass you by before you notice. A second trip might be required. While there's certainly room for ad lib funkiness and improv, Still in America is a highly polished piece of theatre, under the tight direction of Lisa Peterson. While all three performers are sensational, Herbert Siguenza is particularly brilliant, especially in the transsexual and Berkeley biddies scenes. Though maybe that's unfair to the other two, who also shine in their different roles. And the political points are both funny and trenchant. It all makes for a solid, thoughtful, entertaining and often extraordinary night of theatre, not to be missed, especially if you're someone listening to this very review on KPFA, right now. Culture Clash Still In America, directed by Lisa Peterson, is performed at Berkeley Rep's Peets theatre through April 5th. For more information you can go to berkeleyrep.org. I'm Richard Wolinsky on Bay Area theatre for KPFA. The post Review: Culture Clash (Still) in America, at Berkeley Rep appeared first on KPFA.

LA native and illustrator Conor FitzGerald started his restaurant career in college, doing the coffee shop grind at Peet's in Harvard Square. Eventually he moved back to LA, continuing his coffee expertise at M Street Coffee in Sherman Oaks, a local enclave for artists...and customers with "service animals." We discuss the perils of cafe tips, his life in the freelance illustrator world, and how grateful we are to be free of the service industry (for now). Enjoy!

Aitäh :) “Mulle meeldib metafoor, mille ma kunagi ühelt Harvardi Ülikooli kursuselt ‘Immunity to Change’ kaasa võtsin. Me mõnikord seame endale mingid uued eesmärgid ja vajutame sellega nagu gaasipedaali – öeldes sellega endale selgelt, et nüüd on muutust vaja, et me tahame areneda ja me soovime teatud teemadega edasi liikuda. Kuid paradoksaalselt samal ajal vajutame teise jalaga pidurit ning me ei vii seda oodatud muudatust ellu. Me leiame mustmiljon erinevat ettekäänet või vabandust, miks me sellega ikkagi ei saa tegeleda. Nii nagu need uusaastalubadused, et hakkan uuest aastast trennis käima näiteks. Ma tean, et mu keha vajab seda ja see teeb mulle ainult head, kuid siis teiselt poolt avastan ikka ja jälle mitmeid erinevaid põhjusi, miks ma trenni mindud ei saa. On see siis raha küsimus või aja küsimus või midagi muud, vahet pole, meie plaanid ei saa teostatud. Miks me siis hakkame iseendale vastu töötama? See on minu arvates nii huvitav küsimus. Sellesamaga me üpris palju coachingus tegelemegi. Kus kohas asub see konks, mis hoiab meid kinni? Näiteks, miks ma juhina ei delegeeri piisavalt või miks ma kipun teatud otsustega venitama, kuigi selleks nagu otseselt põhjust ju pole või miks ma ei pane teatud olulisi kuid ebamugavaid teemasid lauale? Miks ma nii käitun ja lasen sellel ahvil oma kukil edasi elada? Mis pidur mul peal on?” – Kaidi Peets Kuulake ikka …

Meet Scot Chisholm, CEO & co-founder of Classy - A social enterprise fundraising software focused on helping non-profits grow their revenue. Classy was named while he and his friends were first brainstorming the concept of Classy while watching Anchor Man - Stay Classy San Diego. Classy is now a 200+ employee SaaS startup that has now processed over $1 billion in funds for non-profits through its platform. Scot grew up in Massachusetts and went to UMass Amherst where he spent only one semester as a computer science major before switching to engineering. He was drawn to San Diego when his college friends had moved out here while he was finishing college. When he graduated he convinced his dad and brother to drive cross-country with him and he landed in Ocean Beach. The day he got here he saw a pizza shop that advertised ‘Boston-style pizza’. He was curious and stopped in. As it so happens, this was the first day the shop was open and he asked if he could be their first employee. And he was hit by the entrepreneurship bug. If you’re curious to know which pizza place this is (it’s still around!), listen to the full episode. While serving pizzas he talked to a lot of customers, one of whom worked at Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) which is how Scot ended up at his job there. During his time at BAH he started Classy as a side project. It came to be that he and his friends had all been affected by cancer in some way and they wanted to volunteer with the American Cancer Society (ACS). Unfortunately, it was hard to get involved and their only option was the Walk For The Cure. Being in their mid-20’s, Scot and his friends all agreed that there had to be a different way to help than walking for 24 hours. They decided to do a pub crawl around Pacific Beach to raise money. You’d think it’d be really easy to GIVE an organization like the ACS monetary donations. Turns out, it’s not. He was told he’d have to attend the Walk For The Cure and donate the money through that event. The same event they wanted to avoid. And Classy was born. Classy didn’t start as a tech company. It started as an organization that held events to engage with the people who would donate, so they knew what exactly they were donating to. And these were no small events - they held a music festival and were able to get headliners like Matisyahu, Bassnectar, Mason Jennings and attracted more than 5,000 people. Their tangled system of payment software soon wasn’t able to support them anymore and only then did they set out to become a tech company to create a solution that would work for them. This was around 2009-2010 and was first a way for people to purchase tickets and donate money to their specific events. Once the organizations learned about Classy they started approaching Scot asking if they could use the platform to collect donations that weren’t tied to a certain event. Lightbulb moment. Fast-forward and Classy was now in the UCSD Springboard program, CONNECT. Getting investors and support was a challenge since they were an events company trying to pivot to SaaS. It’s hard to imagine that these same people are questioning their judgment now that Classy just hit 1 billion dollars in collected donations! Listen to the full episode to hear how he and Classy went full circle with the ACS which includes what could have been a very awkward conversation with their CFO. Scot describes the San Diego tech scene as being a 2.0 version and he’s proud to be one of the leaders in this stage. During 1.0, Scot looked up to companies like Active. For 2.0, he’s looking to non-San Francisco based companies who are integrating and developing their cities as they grow, companies like HubSpot and MailChimp Hear Scot talk more about their path to funding and San Diego’s interest in mission-driven companies, Classy’s growth in Downtown San Diego, and what he thinks the future of e-commerce philanthropy will be. Check out Scot’s favorites: Tacos - Ortiz’s Taco Shop in Point Loma and Colima's Mexican Food in North Park. Coffee - Pappalecco, more recently it’s Peets who ‘has the best espresso’. Beer - Sculpin. Alpine Brewing is also a new favorite. Find Scot and follow Classy: Classy.org - there’s a very active blog that Scot recommends you read LinkedIn: Classy | Scot Chisholm Twitter: @classy | @scotchisholm Facebook Instagram: classy_org Thanks to Cox Business for their support of the local San Diego startup ecosystem and for helping to make this episode possible.

On today's New To You Satellite Sisters show from June 12, 2011, Sheila Dolan is happy to reach the end of the school year. Her grand finale lesson on South America took the form of a Top Chef South America cook-off for her third graders. Plus, Sheila breaks down how she lives on the gift card economy. She's got the range from Peets and Starbucks to Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel. As a local, Julie has jumped on the Dallas Mavericks bandwagon for this year's NBA Finals. She's fine being a Julie-Come-Lately. Sheila supports that. Lian commiserates with Sarah Palin over the release of her private emails. What would happen if the Satellite Sisters emails got released to the public? Liz may have to file a Freedom of Information Act to find out what the other four sisters have been writing behind her back. Liz goes to see Bridesmaids and recommends it to Lian who is looking for a way to be creatively inspired to start work on her next book. And Liz also questions the installation of "ass-cams" in a jean story in LA. Who wants to really see their butt? Apparently Sheila does.
