In hour 1, Spadoni and Shasky discuss a crazy game in Philadelphia that comes down to the wire as the Warriors fall short without their stars.
All Bones Considered: Laurel Hill Stories #041, part 4 Benjamin Wood Richards' tenure as mayor coincided with challenges such as public health crises, infrastructure needs, and social tensions in Philadelphia. In 1819, Richards co-founded a large commission house in Philadelphia, a business acting as an intermediary for securities and commodities transactions, earning income through commissions. He served in the Pennsylvania legislature in 1827, advocated for public schools, was a canal commissioner, and was appointed by President Andrew Jackson to direct the U.S. Bank and Mint. Appointed mayor in 1829 and elected in 1830-31, wealthy merchant Stephen Girard died during his term. Richards helped found the Girard Trust Company in 1835, serving as its president until his death, with the bank later becoming Girard Bank. When Richards toured Europe, he was inspired by Paris's Père Lachaise Cemetery, and helped found Philadelphia's Laurel Hill Cemetery, where he was a major stakeholder.
In hour 2, the 94 WIP Midday Show discussed the current situation surrounding Kyle Scwarber's free agency. There is general belief that Schwarber will be the first big name free agent to sign with a team this offseason. Joe Giglio expects the Phillies to re-sign Schwarber, but that they will probably overpay in the process. If he leaves, there is another free agent outfielder that Giglio wants the Phillies to get. Hugh Douglas thinks that he may be going to the Cincinnati Reds. Darius Slay did not report to the Bills as he contemplates retirement. He called Philadelphia his second home and said he was unsure if he would have reported to the Eagles if they had won his waiver claim.

Today's 94 WIP Midday Show posed an interesting question: would you sign-up right now for the Eagles to finish their final 5 games at 3-2, clinching the NFC East and a home playoff game? Joe Giglio certainly would, because he thinks that there is possibility the wheels fall off of this season. Hugh Douglas strongly disagrees, urging the Eagles to take control of their destiny and start playing better. Kyle Schwarber's free agency is starting to pick up steam with the MLB winter meetings starting next week. Darius Slay interestingly called Philadelphia his second home but would not comment on if he is coming back. Jalen Hurts needs to start running more, according to Joe Giglio. Listen at the end for the Guess the Takes segment, and You People!
The 94 WIP Midday Show are taking a look at the Darius Slay situation after he did not report to the Bills. Reports are out that Slay is contemplating retirement, and it certainly seems that way as he has become very reflective about his life and sounds like his playing days might soon be over. He says that he does not know if he would have reported to the Eagles had they won the waiver claim, but he did call Philadelphia his second home. Joe Giglio says that the Eagles, specifically Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni, have become too obsessed with not turning the ball over and that they are too risk averse.
On this pre-Thanksgiving edition of The Broad Street Line, Kris and Roy hope that the "new wrinkle" that Kevin Patullo promises for the Philadelphia Eagles' offense brings the team success on Black Friday. The pair also gives you their thoughts on the upcoming Survivor Series card.

Munaf Manji, Dave Essler and Mackenzie Rivers talk NFL contest betting for Week 14. Munaf Manji opens the NFL Week 14 Contest Podcast with Mackenzie Rivers and Uncle Dave Essler, noting the chaos of Thanksgiving week and that only 45 entries remain in Circa Survivor after a massive 851-entry wipeout. They break down how all three Thanksgiving favorites lost, how Chicago upset Philadelphia on Black Friday, and how the Rams' loss to Carolina knocked out four more on Sunday. Mackenzie and Dan were eliminated in Survivor, and Mack jokingly laments missing Fezzik's hindsight advice to take the Bears as a big dog. They review key picks for Week 14. Uncle Dave takes the Jaguars over the Colts, arguing Indy has been propped up by an easy schedule while Jacksonville, despite inconsistencies, is healthier and stronger at home. Munaf adds that Daniel Jones' injury limits the Colts' offense and expects Jacksonville to load the box against Jonathan Taylor. Mack sees the matchup as close but leans Jags due to historical Colts struggles in Jacksonville. Mack's best bet is the Bills over the Bengals, noting the line is similar to their January 2023 playoff meeting despite Cincinnati being far weaker now and Buffalo's elite rushing matchup against a poor Bengals rush defense. Munaf expects Buffalo to score 30+ and exploit Cincinnati's offensive-line issues even with Joe Burrow healthy. Dave agrees the Bengals' defense is too weak to justify market respect. Munaf's pick is the Ravens over the Steelers, citing Baltimore's bounce-back spot, Derrick Henry's matchup edge, Pittsburgh's struggling offense, and poor wide-receiver chemistry with Aaron Rodgers. Dave supports it, noting Pittsburgh's run-defense collapse vs Buffalo and internal frustration around Rodgers calling out teammates. Mack acknowledges Tomlin-as-dog trends but still leans Ravens due to matchup disadvantages. They discuss whether Tomlin's 19-season winning-record streak will finally end, reviewing a brutal remaining Steelers schedule (Ravens, Dolphins, Lions, Browns, Ravens again) and concluding an 8-9 finish is likely. In Survivor talk, Uncle Dave would use the Eagles over the Chargers despite Philly's recent losses, arguing the Chargers' résumé is weak and Harbaugh may not be the NFL fit people expect. Mack's mapped-out Survivor plan had Tampa Bay beating the Saints this week and still believes the Bucs are the right side with New Orleans showing no incentive to win. Munaf also likes the Bucs and adds the Rams as strong options vs a fading Cardinals team giving up 27+ points in four straight games. They close the episode with gratitude, reflecting on the season, encouraging listener feedback for future shows, and reminding everyone to follow their Survivor coverage and other Pregame podcasts. Detroit has a RoboCop statue. I watched it go in myself on Wednesday. It's a real thing. An amazingly detailed, 10-foot tall, 2.5 ton bronze behemoth will be greeting future generations coming to Eastern Market. For more of the story, I sat down with three of the key people who refused to let this long-running project die: Filmmaker and original organizer Brandon Walley Producer and Free Age co-owner Jim Toscano Omni Consumer Products' "defictionalizer-in-chief" Pete Hottelet Together, we unpack how a jokey tweet comparing Detroit to Philadelphia's Rocky statue turned into a nearly decade and a half odyssey that pulled in Hollywood effects legends, local foundry artisans, a major studio, and countless twists and turns. Brandon explains how the idea leapt from a viral Facebook page into a real public art commission through the old Imagination Station, and why the team was adamant that the statue be made in Detroit. He walks through the early missteps, the learning curve on how you actually build a 10-foot bronze figure, and the multi-year collaboration with Venus Bronze Works, the shop behind many of Detroit's landmark sculptures. Pete gets into the legal and technical hurdles: getting MGM on board, putting up his own money to show good faith, and insisting on screen-accurate detail by restoring Peter Weller's original armor from a warehouse in Houston with artist Mark Dubois and the legendary Tippett Studio. One of the most interesting points for me, from a community perspective, is that he talks about "defictionalizing" Robocop's Directive One — serve the public trust — by turning the statue's plaque itself into a QR code that can connect visitors to community causes, donating straight from their phones. Jim shares how Free Age became Robocop's eventual "roommate" after other locations, including the Science Center, fell through during the pandemic. He and Walley talk about the symbolism of placing Robocop on the edge of Eastern Market as a welcoming figure, arm extended, and how they're bracing — in a good way — for fans who donated years ago, people honoring loved ones, and visitors from around the world to show up on their Russell Street patio. Throughout, the group reflects on the grind of seeing a wild idea through nearly 15 years, the friendships and collaboration that kept it alive, and what it means for Detroit to finally have a pop-culture monument that is both deeply nerdy and deeply rooted in the city's perseverance and generosity. You're not going to want to miss this conversation, or your chance to see a bit of movie history right here in the Motor City. Amazon is testing "Amazon Now," a new 30-minute delivery service in Seattle and Philadelphia, repurposing former Amazon Fresh sites into rapid delivery hubs. But is this innovation or desperation? This segment, sponsored by the A&M Consumer and Retail Group, Mirakl, Ocampo Capital, Infios, and Quorso, analyzes Amazon's grocery struggles. Chris reveals the shocking stat: Despite owning Whole Foods and having Amazon's infrastructure, Amazon's grocery share is still only 4%. He sees this as a defensive move more than offensive strategy. Anne questions the economics. Prime members pay $3.99 per delivery, but after two orders you could subscribe to DoorDash and get access to better quality groceries from trusted regional stores. #amazon #amazonnow #grocerydelivery #rapiddelivery #amazonfresh #retailstrategy #lastmile #quickcommerce
The Philadelphia Flyers aren't a top team in the Metropolitan Division, but they've been a fun team to watch this season as the rebuild takes shape. With new head coach Rick Tocchet at the helm, we assessed where this Flyers team is at as we enter December. We dove into the good and bad. This week, Kelly Hinkle from BroadStreetHockey.com joined us for a great discussion! But first, the guys dove into their new top-3 list this week. Contrasting last week, this week it's the top-3 things they are NOT thankful for in the world of Philly sports. (Approx. 4:55)From there, they talked about the positives with the Sixers in terms of the backcourt play from Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, and Jared McCain. (Approx. 29:15)Then they discussed how the long-term injury to Tyson Foerster will impact the Flyers over the coming months. (Approx. 35:45)What they threw down on the Table this week was a great and in-depth conversation with Kelly Hinkle from Broad Street Hockey about where this Flyers team is at as we enter December. There's good and bad. Assessments about Matvei Michkov's play on the ice. The biggest surprise on the team thus far, and which aspect of this team has been the biggest disappointment. What grade do we give new head coach Rick Tocchet at this point? All of this and much more this week on the Table! We just lowered the prices on all of our packages, and promo code 'GURU' gets you an extra 15% off to make a Fantasy Points Premium sub only $134 for the rest of the year. https://www.fantasypoints.com/plans#/ Week 14 features one of the most critical fantasy matchups of the season. With four teams on bye, Matchup Points focuses on the matchups that truly matter. Detroit and Dallas lead the week with the highest totals, keeping Jared Goff as a viable QB1 even if Amon-Ra St. Brown is out. Conversely, Seattle and Atlanta show a decline due to Ken Walker's decreasing role and Drake London's injury, making both offenses less appealing outside of DK Metcalf. Cincinnati and Buffalo present highly playable environments, with James Cook and Dalton Kincaid poised to exploit the Bengals' defensive weaknesses, while Tee Higgins' health will determine if it turns into a shootout. The mid-slate games are more volatile, especially Tennessee vs. Cleveland, where inconsistent quarterback play and depth issues limit fantasy value. Jacksonville and Indianapolis are more promising, with Trevor Lawrence facing a soft zone defense and Travis Etienne expected to rebound. Late-slate matches are unpredictable; Austin Ekeler and Gerald Everett face tough coverage from Philadelphia, while Joe Burrow's return boosts all Bengals and suggests a YAC-focused approach for Buffalo, benefiting Khalil Shakir. The main takeaway: Week 14 is about analyzing matchups, avoiding fragile roles, and making decisive, playoff-oriented lineup decisions. All Bones Considered: Laurel Hill Stories #081, part 3 Nathan Dunn was born to Quaker parents in New Jersey. After early financial difficulties and disownment by the Philadelphia Quaker Meeting, he sailed to China around 1818 to rebuild his fortunes. In Canton, he gained respect by avoiding the opium trade and engaged in commerce involving tea, silks, porcelain, and other goods. In 1835 he joined with John Jay Smith and others to form Laurel Hill Cemetery, for which he served as primary financial backer. Dunn's decade-long residence in China allowed him to collect a vast array of authentic Chinese artifacts, reflecting a broader American interest in understanding China beyond commerce. His collection later formed the basis of the Chinese Museum in Philadelphia, opened in 1838, one of the first American institutions dedicated exclusively to Chinese culture. The museum featured thousands of objects, life-size wax figures, dioramas, and detailed exhibits of daily life, religion, and governance in China. Dunn transferred the museum to London in 1842, where it was visited by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Late in life, he was accused of illegal homosexual activity and put on trial for the crime of sodomy.

Chesapeake Bay officials have elected Gov. Josh Shapiro to lead a regional agreement to help clean and restore the waterway which gets its largest source of freshwater from Pennsylvania. The first-term Democrat will take the reins of the Chesapeake Executive Council at a tumultuous time for the forty-year-old partnership. A growing number of people are struggling to pay utility bills as the price of electricity soars. Many Pennsylvania residents cannot be disconnected, starting this month. A bill requiring Philadelphia establishments to charge customers 10 cents for paper bags recently became law. The Trump administration has reversed course again on a new air pollution rule for coke oven plants. The White House is now granting two-year waivers on the rule, which affects U.S. Steel. A 26-year-old hunter was shot Tuesday morning, rescued from a remote area of Juniata County and taken to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries. The Pennsylvania Game Commission says the man was part of a hunting party of 24 people. A progressive group is targeting two Senate Democrats and an independent senator who voted to confirm some of President Donald Trump's judicial nominees. The group "Demand Justice" has launched a weeklong advertising campaign against Democrats John Fetterman and Maggie Hassan and independent Angus King. As pharmacy closures continue across Pennsylvania, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is questioning how the Shapiro administration is following through on the promises of a 2024 law created to support pharmacies.
