Fr. Mike dives into the fall of Babylon described in Revelation 18, pointing out how several images and expressions of this key chapter are taken from the judgmental oracles in the old testament, particularly those from the prophet Jeremiah. Fr. Mike also emphasizes the reality of God's judgment, the resurrection of the dead, and how Christ's sacrifice is presented to God in the heavenly sanctuary once and for all. Today we read Revelation 18-20, Hebrews 9-10, and Proverbs 31:26-29. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Thanks!Revelation 19 A great multitude in heaven praises God, declaring that His judgments are true and just because He has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth. The smoke from her destruction rises forever, and the twenty-four elders and four living creatures worship God. A voice calls on all of God's servants to praise Him. Then heaven opens, and a white horse appears. Its rider is called Faithful and True, wearing many crowns and a robe dipped in blood. He leads the armies of heaven and strikes down the nations with a sharp sword. He rules with justice and treads the winepress of God's wrath. The beast and the false prophet are captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire. The kings of the earth are defeated by the word of Christ. God's justice and victory are on full display. The praise of heaven reminds us that evil will not win, and God's judgments are right and true. Christ is revealed as the Faithful and True rider, leading heaven's armies with power and righteousness. He does not come in weakness but in glory, bringing justice to the nations. We are His bride, clothed in righteous acts in His honor. The defeat of the beast and false prophet shows that no enemy of God will stand. We are not waiting for victory; we are living in the full assurance of it. Let us worship with joy, follow Christ with loyalty, and live with courage, knowing the King of kings reigns forever. Amazing God, we praise You for revealing Jesus as Faithful and True, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He comes in glory, riding in righteousness, bringing justice to the nations. We thank You that His victory is certain and His name is above all names. Help us to follow Him with pure hearts and bold faith. Teach us to worship with joy, to live in holiness, and to trust in His power. May we never forget that He reigns forever. Strengthen us to stand firm, knowing that the Lamb who was slain now rules in glory. Thought Questions: The church is the bride of Christ, adorned in righteous deeds in His honor. How can this imagery help as you excel in good works? Do you often picture Jesus in power: on a white horse, with flaming eyes, and a sword of wrath in His mouth? How can this be helpful? Satan and all who live in sin will be thrown into the lake of fire. How does this motivate you to flee from ungodliness passionately?

(Scroll down to download a free companion guide designed to help you more deeply process this episodes content.) In today’s episode, Carol is joined by author and Bible teacher Melissa Spoelstra for a powerful conversation about fear, spiritual warfare, and the God who reigns over both heaven and earth. Drawing from her new Bible study, Melissa helps us understand why the Bible talks about angels—not so that we’ll become preoccupied with supernatural beings, but so our view of God will grow larger, stronger, and more hope-filled. Together, Carol and Melissa explore what Scripture reveals about the unseen spiritual realm: angelic hosts, messengers, cherubim and seraphim, fallen angels, and even Satan. But more importantly, they highlight the character of the God who commands the angel armies, sets boundaries on evil, strengthens His servants through suffering, and offers refuge in moments of fear. This episode gently but boldly addresses questions many believers wrestle with:• What battles am I facing that I can’t see? • How do I fight fear without becoming fearful of spiritual warfare? • Why does God allow testing, and where is He when life feels heavy? • How do angels reveal God’s heart, His protection, and His authority? Through practical insight and biblical clarity, Melissa reminds us that although our battles are real, our God is sovereign, present, and victorious. We don’t fix our eyes on angels—we fix our eyes on the God who created them. And in doing so, we find the hope and courage we need for whatever we’re facing right now. Whether you’re wrestling with anxiety, fear of the unknown, spiritual attack, or simply longing to understand God’s supernatural care more deeply, this conversation will breathe peace and truth into your soul. Key Scriptures Discussed 2 Kings 6 – Elisha’s servant sees the chariots of fire• Hebrews 1 – Angels as ministering spirits• Psalm 91 – God’s promise of protection• Ephesians 6 – Our battle against spiritual forces• Luke 2 – God sends an angel to outcasts• Revelation – Angels in worship and judgment Themes Covered✓ Spiritual warfare without fear✓ God’s sovereignty over heaven and earth✓ Discernment, deception, and truth✓ How angels reveal God’s character✓ The limits God places on Satan Discussion/Reflective Questions: Where in your life right now does fear feel louder than your confidence in God’s reign—and what does remembering the spiritual realm change for you? Which aspect of God’s character, revealed through the ministry of angels, brought you the most comfort or clarity today? How have you sensed spiritual warfare in your thoughts, relationships, or emotions recently—and what truth about God’s authority helps you fight back? What lies or subtle deceptions tend to trigger anxiety for you, and how can Scripture help you recognize and counter them? When have you felt strengthened, protected, or supported by God in a way that you couldn’t fully explain? What did that reveal about His presence? What one step can you take this week to shift your focus away from fear of the enemy and toward a greater trust in the God who rules over everything? Reach Out: Please include your email and I will get back to you. Thanks!Revelation 18 An angel descends from heaven with great authority, and the earth is illuminated by his glory. He declares the fall of Babylon, calling it a dwelling for demons and a prison for every unclean spirit. Babylon is condemned for her pride, immorality, and corrupt influence over the nations. A voice from heaven urges God's people to come out of her so they will not share in her sins or plagues. Her destruction comes quickly, and kings, merchants, and sailors mourn her fall because she once brought them great wealth and power. Yet no one can save her. Babylon is thrown down with violence, never to rise again. Heaven rejoices, for God's judgment is fair, holy, and true. Her fall is a warning not to trust in earthly riches or corrupt power. Trusting in wealth, luxury, and worldly power is a dangerous foundation for life. What appears secure and impressive can collapse in an instant. The world often values success, riches, and influence, but God sees the pride and corruption behind it. When judgment comes, those who gained from evil mourn their loss, not because of love, but because their comfort is gone. God calls His people to live differently, to separate from what is impure and temporary. We are called to live with integrity, humility, and eternal purpose. Earthly riches will fade, but God's kingdom endures. Our hope must rest in Him alone. Let us pursue what is holy, knowing only what is built on Him will truly last. Holy Lord, You are righteous in all Your ways and worthy of all praise. You see through every illusion of wealth and power. Help us not to be deceived by the temporary glory of the world. Teach us to value what is eternal and to walk in purity and truth. Call us out of anything that pulls our hearts away from You. Give us wisdom to live with integrity and strength to turn from sin. May we trust in Your justice and rest in Your promises. Lead us to honor You with our lives as we wait for Your everlasting kingdom. Thought Questions: What worldly influences are you tempted to trust in over the Lord, and how can you shift your hope and allegiance fully to Him? How do you respond when God directs you to separate from things that are comfortable or convenient but are spiritually harmful? Do you believe that God's judgment will remove all the evil powers of this world? How should your daily choices today reflect that belief?
"In Revelation 15–16, the seven bowls of God's wrath are poured out on the earth. How do we reconcile God's justice and wrath in these passages with His love and mercy? In Revelation 17, what does Babylon represent, both in the first-century world and for us today? In this episode, your host Hunter invites us into a transformative journey through the Book of Revelation, exploring chapters 10 through 14. As we reflect on these dramatic visions—angels, beasts, the mark of the beast, and the triumph of the Lamb—Hunter reminds us that understanding comes not just from reading but from truly "eating the Book," allowing the words to become part of us. Together, we're encouraged to patiently endure, maintain faith, and let God's Word guide us step by step, trusting that His vision unfolds for those who abide in Him. The episode closes with heartfelt prayers for wisdom, peace, and love, followed by a reminder that our daily practice of soul work shapes us and blesses those around us. This is more than Bible study—it's training in the way of Jesus, building strength for daily life in hope and love. So join Hunter, open your heart, and let today's scripture and prayer nourish your soul. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Eat this book, eat this scroll. It will be sweet like honey and it will be bitter in your stomach. This whole fantastical episode of visions begins with John being told to eat the book. It's only after he eats the scroll, which is both sweet and bitter, that he is given access to a behind the scenes vision—the machinations and happenings of the spiritual world. There are mysteries here that are yet unlocked. Many people spend their lifetime trying to decipher dates and times and meanings of words and particular visions and drawing one for one correlations between things that are happening right here, right now, and yet their ultimate deciphering can only happen for those who eat the book. Eating the book is a precursor to understanding God's vision. And that's true for our lives as well. It's only as we abide in him, the living Word, as we allow his written word to give us a vision for what God is saying and doing here and now, what he has for our life. The ultimate decoding can only happen for those who dwell in him, for those who taste the Word of life, to listen to him and his message and obey what he says. Then God will provide for us a step by step, unfolding on a need to know basis. Notice the angel tells him not to write down the vision he sees. He's told to keep it a secret because God reveals to us what we need to know, when we need to know it. Ours is to take the next step, to see the next vision that God has placed before us. Ours is to take and partake of him. Ours is to stand back in awe and worship Him. This story that we read about and we find ourselves in is going somewhere. It's not just an endless cycle of the same thing over and over again. No, God is culminating things. This book is showing us that. The angel says there is no more delay. Things are coming to a rapid conclusion. We can be sure that God is on the move and we are to be on the move with him, taking each step with him, each and every day. Understand that it is only as we partake of him, we eat his word, we live in communion with him, that we will begin to understand the vision that God has for your life. So eat his word, eat his flesh, partake of him, receive from him visions, direction, courage and hope. Take the next step with him, living life in him. And that's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the only thing I can really make sense of in these passages. And that's the prayer that I have for my family too, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Do some stories or laws in the Bible have you stumped? In this special Q&A episode, we tackle your hardest biblical questions from why innocent people face consequences for others' sins to how Jesus' genealogy proves his Davidic lineage through both Mary and Joseph. We explore controversial Old Testament laws about rape and marriage, unpack the cultural context behind family punishment in ancient Israel, and reveal why Satan appears less frequently in Old Testament books compared to the New Testament. You'll discover surprising answers about Joseph's Egyptian wife, the evil spirit that tormented King Saul, and how to study scripture like a theologian.Podcast themes:Context transforms understanding. When we understand the cultural and historical context of difficult biblical passages, God's justice and protection come into clearer focus. So when stories seem harsh or unfair, look at them as an invitation to dive deeper and seek the true nature of God who is just, patient, and intentional from Genesis to Revelation. God's plan leaves no room for doubt. The dual genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke aren't contradictions. They're confirmation. One traces Joseph's legal lineage, the other Mary's biological line, both converging at King David to prove Jesus fulfills messianic prophecy completely.Satan's influence has always existed, even when unnamed. Just because "Satan" isn't mentioned by name frequently in the Old Testament doesn't mean spiritual warfare wasn't happening. The adversary operated throughout biblical history, sometimes through direct attack when God withdrew His protection.Show notes:Genealogy of JesusWe love feedback, but can't reply without your email address.
