In this episode of Christ the Center, Camden Bucey and Jim Cassidy engage in a lively and theologically rich conversation. Fresh from attending Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary's summer seminar with David Hall and Carl Trueman, Camden shares highlights from the event before turning to the main topic: a preview of the 2025 Reformed Forum Theology Conference. This year's theme—The Things Concerning Himself: Christ in All the Scriptures—will explore how the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, reveals Christ as the sum and substance of God's covenantal plan. Camden and Jim walk through each of the planned addresses, reflecting on why Christ is not an “added-on” figure to the Old Testament, but its very heart from the beginning. Along the way, they share personal ministry stories, insights on biblical theology, and a taste of the fellowship that makes these gatherings so special. Join us September 27, 2025 at Lakeland Church in Gurnee, Illinois, for an edifying day of teaching, conversation, and community. Come early for the Friday night pre-conference at Primo's Italian Steakhouse. Registration is now open, with early-bird rates through September 1, 2025. Learn more and reserve your spot at reformedforum.org/conference. Whether you are a pastor, student, or serious layperson, this conference will help you see more clearly how all of Scripture points to Christ—and how that transforms our understanding, devotion, and service to him. Full Text of ReadingsSolemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Lectionary: 621, 622The Saint of the day is Assumption of the Blessed Virgin MaryThe Story of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII defined the Assumption of Mary to be a dogma of faith: “We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.” The pope proclaimed this dogma only after a broad consultation of bishops, theologians and laity. There were few dissenting voices. What the pope solemnly declared was already a common belief in the Catholic Church. We find homilies on the Assumption going back to the sixth century. In following centuries, the Eastern Churches held steadily to the doctrine, but some authors in the West were hesitant. However by the 13th century there was universal agreement. The feast was celebrated under various names—Commemoration, Dormition, Passing, Assumption—from at least the fifth or sixth century. Today it is celebrated as a solemnity. Scripture does not give an account of Mary's assumption into heaven. Nevertheless, Revelation 12 speaks of a woman who is caught up in the battle between good and evil. Many see this woman as God's people. Since Mary best embodies the people of both Old and New Testaments, her assumption can be seen as an exemplification of the woman's victory. Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 15:20, Paul speaks of Christ's resurrection as the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. Since Mary is closely associated with all the mysteries of Jesus' life, it is not surprising that the Holy Spirit has led the Church to believe in Mary's share in his glorification. So close was she to Jesus on earth, she must be with him body and soul in heaven. Reflection In the light of the Assumption of Mary, it is easy to pray her Magnificat (Luke 1:46–55) with new meaning. In her glory she proclaims the greatness of the Lord and finds joy in God her savior. God has done marvels to her and she leads others to recognize God's holiness. She is the lowly handmaid who deeply reverenced her God and has been raised to the heights. From her position of strength she will help the lowly and the poor find justice on earth, and she will challenge the rich and powerful to distrust wealth and power as a source of happiness. This is about more than just identifying signs—it's about strengthening faith, holding fast to what we believe. Whether it's the fulfillment of ancient prophecies or the headlines of today, every sign points us closer to the moment when the age of grace will give way to His coming kingdom. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could something that's never happened, happen? By definition, if something has occurred, we know it can occur. But what about the unprecedented? We have a blind spot in this area, don't we? If something has never happened, in the entire history of the world, it's so unlikely that we'd be safe to think of it as impossible. That's an error that humanity fell into before the Flood. Is it our mistake, too? Here's Jim to begin his sermon called, They Didn't Know. When the Lamb opens the seventh seal in Revelation 8, heaven falls silent before seven trumpet judgments shake the natural world. Are these visions mere metaphors—or literal, world-changing events? Steve Wood explains the biblical and historical background of the trumpet blasts, drawing from Joshua 6, ancient Jewish tradition about the seven archangels, and the prayers of the martyrs in Revelation 6. He also shares insights from St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Eusebius, and Archbishop Fulton Sheen on real cosmic and geological upheavals that may foreshadow the end times. In this comprehensive overview of the Book of Revelation, Daniel Rogers explores the text's purpose, context, and the significance of its imagery. He emphasizes the importance of understanding Revelation as a message of hope and encouragement for early Christians facing persecution. The discussion covers the authorship, the messages to the seven churches, and the role of symbolism in conveying deeper meanings. Rogers also addresses the themes of judgment, the fall of Jerusalem, and the ultimate victory of the way of the cross, culminating in the promise of a new creation and the invitation to partake in eternal life. The prophetic patterns woven into creation's very fabric—from the seven-day week to the Jewish feast cycle—reveal we stand at the precipice of the 6,000-year threshold before Christ's millennial reign. Scripture doesn't call believers to passive endurance but to urgent kingdom advancement, wielding spiritual authority as harvesters in the final moments of this age before the divine timeline reaches its culmination. ____________ VERITY METALS Convert your 401k or IRA into physical gold to protect your retirement from a volatile stock market and inflation. The church at Pergamos was a good church in many ways. They had stayed faithful to Christ even though they were planted in Satan's backyard. They endured through persecution. They didn't deny Christ's name. However, the danger of compromise had crept into this church. Pergamos was allowing the Nicolaitans to come in and teach that believers could live however they wanted to, embracing idolatry and immorality. Jesus speaks to warn them of allowing this compromise to remain in the church.

I'm also a practicing attorney. This podcast is designed to help you study God's word and find God's will for your life. The purpose of studying scripture is that you might know the character of Jesus Christ, and that you might see the world from the Father's perspective. That you gain wisdom that changes your life. I pray in the name of Jesus right now that God would open His word to you and allow you to see Him and to know Him. To know His will, that you might glorify Him and that you might walk in faith and power each day, especially today. Jase calls it a vacation, but it involved a back injury inflicted by Missy's cast iron skillet, wiping out in an ice-cold Colorado stream, and limping through a metal-detecting frenzy that led to a rare 1797 coin discovery. Zach and Al explore Christ's mission to touch the untouchable, heal the broken, and bring life to the desolate. Jase is moved to reflect on Jesus' question, “Do you understand what I've done for you?” and the love that pursues us long before we pursue Him. Gary recommends a book by Pete and Rachel Wrue called End Times Explained. Although Rachel died in March, she left us with two very helpful books that she wrote along with her husband in the area of eschatology and the end times. This book, Gary says, would make a great Bible study and a great introduction to biblical eschatology and the various views. Revelation, the Apocalypse of John, is the last book in the Bible, and for many, it's the most difficult. Through the ages, followers of Yeshua have taken the Revelation football and run with it in just about every conceivable direction. This second part of our series on the end times, features D. Thomas Lancaster, author of the forthcoming End of Days Torah Club study track, and together we'll discuss the various approaches Christian interpreters have used to try to decipher the book of Revelation. We'll pull the curtain back a little bit to reveal what we can expect this fall as our Torah Club students encounter a Jewish approach to interpreting John's apocalyptic visions.
For decades, eagle-eyed prophecy aficionados have scoured the headlines and the Scriptures hoping to find clues as to where we're at on God's prophetic timeline and how much longer we'll have to wait before the glorious return of our Master, Yeshua. But does the Bible really predict Apache helicopters, Patriot missiles, the Chernobyl disaster, and nuclear weapons? In this, the first of a multi-part series on the end times, this podcast episode features a discussion with D. Thomas Lancaster, author of the forthcoming End of Days Torah Club study track. Jacob and Daniel explore some of the apocalyptic imagery in the Bible to find out what's really going on behind the veil.

In this lecture, Don Carson teaches that Jesus Christ must remain the central focus in interpretations of the Book of Revelation. Carson critiques various scholarly approaches that often marginalize Christ, urging that all aspects of Revelation are inseparable from His death and resurrection. Carson underscores that Revelation presents a grand vision of Christ's mediatorial kingship and priesthood, culminating in the New Heaven and New Earth. He teaches the following:Why Revelation should be read with Jesus at its center, as both the agent and substance of God's revelationHow Revelation highlights Jesus's fulfillment of Old Testament themesHow Revelation 1:12–16 draws from Daniel's vision of the "Ancient of Days”Descriptions of Jesus's authority in Revelation are rooted in the initial vision of His gloryJesus's death and resurrection empower Him to open the seals, unfolding God's purposesJesus's authority brings both judgment and salvation–signified by trumpet judgments and the final judgmentIn the new creation, God will have eternal presence with His people
