Welcome to taming shame, a guided, interactive healing meditation to gently connect with yourself and let go so you may live within true harmony and self-acceptance. Shame is an unpleasant self-conscious emotion often found through negative self-evaluation. Its inner workings cause you pain, distrust, powerlessness, and worthlessness. It causes us to hide and tell ourselves we are flawed. Shame is attached to your identity and how you see yourself. It asks us to validate insecurities, these feelings of lack, but we can tame shame and find our truth—that you are and have always been meant to live a life rooted in grace, inspiration, and ownership. Let's settle in now and connect with this center of truth, love, and light—the very center of you—your soul. As you settle, softly deepen your breath, inhaling through your nose, allowing the breath to fill your lungs before slowly and steadily exhaling. With your next inhale, relax your shoulders down your spine, releasing any tension you may feel. This relaxation is meant to guide you into releasing shame and guilt and allow your mind to focus on the here and now while taking positive action for the future. Breathe in again, slowly drawing air into your lungs Feel yourself becoming more deeply relaxed. Gently let go of tension, feeling your muscles surrender. Close your eyes if they are not already shut, and allow them to become heavy. Now, allow your mind to think about shame. Notice any thoughts, feelings, or memories that come up. Shame's purpose is to teach. It's to show you how you connect to your life, to yourself, and to the moments you allow to define you.   With a steady and easy breath, bring awareness to where you feel shame in your body. What does this feel like to you? If you can physically feel it, gently place your hand over this space. Honor its presence with a complete exhale, thanking it for teaching you. As you breathe in, allow yourself to shift, to know that while not all past missteps can be corrected, what can be gained is the fact that you are a good person who wants to learn from their mistakes. Shame can only hold you as long as you continue to tell a past story that does not serve you. You've felt shame and guilt for long enough. Now, you shift with understanding allowing the positive to flood you with every inhale and regret, shame, and blame to be released, taming its interaction with your mind, body, and soul. I am human. I am capable of making mistakes as it is a part of my learning process. While I may wish I would have handled situations differently, I also witness that the person I am today is not the person who lived that moment, that feeling, through that mindset or thought. I can only show up as I am in each moment that is presented. While I cannot change what has occurred, I can find appreciation for my own change. I find gratitude for the insight any limitation offers me. Insight allows me to make deliberate decisions based on truth and change. I am committed to showing up in ways that best serve me through compassion, understanding, and love. With this commitment, I release and change my feelings of shame. With an exhale, I declare and acknowledge what has been. I lean into this moment and release. From today forward, I will choose self-grace. I am a beautiful soul that learns from the doing of my life. I own my actions. I offer myself forgiveness. I cannot know what I do not know. I accept all that I have done openly and willingly, with firm and unwavering accountability. I allow myself to be at peace now as I let go of the past. I realize that time teaches me to be better, do better, and better is how I show up. I know that I have been the person I needed to be so I can be the person I am today. As I settle in this moment, I exhale all the pain, guilt, and shame that has been within. I welcome in affirmations of this present time and space reality and affirm: I am at peace. I am living in the unfolding of all things, no matter how they may first be perceived, because I know that there is a lesson and peace within everything. I seek it. I acknowledge it. I live within it. My inner thoughts will forever echo peace. My world does not have to be in stillness in order for me to be grounded in the humbleness that peace has to offer. I use my peace to protect my energy, to feed myself good-feeling thoughts, and I am the reflection of the good. I step out of shame and walk in the path of peace. Shame doesn't exist here as this path is bricked with only the highest, purest, and best. With a deep inhale, release and repeat these affirming words after me:   I do not need to feel guilty anymore. I do not need to blame myself. I learn from my mistakes. I cannot control 100 percent of everything that finds me. I cannot control what other people choose to do. Others are responsible for their own behavior. I have felt shame for long enough. I learn from my experiences and feel good about the life I choose now. I am a good person. I release myself from feelings that do not serve me. I am whole. I am ready. I am letting go. Take another full deep breath and release it slowly; imagine all the weight of shame leaving you. It fills the air around you and dissolves, never to find you again. You are free… Gently bring your breath back to normal. As I could to from five to one, slowly bring yourself back into your body and space. Five…inhaling peace. Four…exhaling anything less than peace. Three…inhaling calm. Two, exhaling the past. One…say the words, “I choose to live openly and peacefully without my past driving my future.” You no longer have to be defined by the past. You are peace. Live as such. Namaste. Find a comfortable position and take a full deep breath. Check-in with your body, moving your shoulders up and down, allowing them to settle in their natural positions. Close your eyes and welcome stillness while you let the racing thoughts of the day to slow and fall away for just a few moments. You deserve to be free of the whirlpools of the mind. We are taking an active journey together…one of peace and owning your inner light. While most meditations ask you to allow yourself to stop, in this journey, we will be active in our thoughts, in the imaginary we pull forth.   Take a moment to set an intention for this time together… starting with the words: I am… Once you have it, take a full deep breath, and let it go. Use your breath throughout this experience, it's there to serve you. You do not have to force anything. Allow whatever arises to come. Now, let's get started. Loving yourself is a gift. Owning your light is a gift. A gift that many reject in favor of past, hard experiences. We often forget that everything we experience is meant to be for us, not against us. And yet, every experience has the opportunity to leave its mark, even a stain, on how we feel about ourselves and how we ultimately love who we are. With your intention, bring forth a moment you have not fully loved yourself. Perhaps it is an experience you've had; maybe you find yourself downgrading your physical form while standing in the mirror each morning; perhaps something has made you feel less than. Whatever has come up, bring it forth in your mind's eye. See it and allow it to take shape. Do not push it away, be in it as you actively see the moment. Stand on the outside, simply witnessing, and visualizing the experience. You are an observer of the moment, nothing more. When your vision is clear, take another full deep breath and let it go. Now, recognize the emotions you're feeling. Name them if you wish, but you do not have to do anything with them. Simply be aware of them. Is it sadness? Is it kindness, forgiveness, or upset…what is it? As you hold the emotion in place, step forward in the vision. You are no longer the observe, but instead active in the moment. See yourself as you are then and now. Open your arms to yourself and offer whatever it is you need. Is it love? Is it forgiveness? Whatever you are in need of, allow it to flow within both forms of you. Open your arms wide, folding them around yourself. Whisper the words: I'm sorry I did not love you the way you needed. I could only be who I was then. Now, I am allowing our light to shine. I am allowing myself to thrive. When comfortable, imagine a small sparkle of light deep inside your chest, right in your heart center. See it. Feel it. When you do, allow it to grow brighter, consuming you in the best way possible. Feel the light expand, filling your chest, moving down your arms, and settling in the tips of your fingertips before tracing back up and moving through you to your stomach. Allow the light to spread…glowing brighter and brighter as it touches your hips and thighs and extends down to your toes. When it reaches the soles of your feet, it radiates up, touching the crown of your head. This beautiful light encompasses you.   This wonderful, shining light is you. It's the brilliance in which you are; no matter what has been, this light is always within you. As you visualized before, no matter what you've experienced, you always have the power to meet yourself, love yourself, and reclaim the light within. When you remember and own this light within, you remember the love in which you were made, have always been, have always had, and will always share. Sharing this light is what others feel when they are in your presence. Osho hugely contributed to contemporary therapy and deeply influenced the leading therapists of the Human Potential Movement. Today our guest is Swami Anand Vikrant. Vikrant took sannyas in 1988 and is a counsellor and psychotherapist, trained at Northern Illinois University, USA, and Osho Multiversity, Pune, India. Vikrant is a member of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology, and the Association for Body Psychotherapy. Vikrant is the author of 6 books and numerous articles on the awakening of consciousness and personal development. Vikrant has taught in various psychology programs including the Department of Counselling, Adult and Health Education at Northern Illinois University, USA. He is a former research consultant on Active Meditations in Sydney, Australia, and has been training therapists and facilitators in humanistic-transpersonal psychology for more than 20 years. Vikrant is the founder of the Experiential Center for Human Development and creator of the "Returning to the Source" workshop, Biodynamic Structural Massage, and Somatic Emotional Processing.Vikrant dedicated 10 years on a research project documenting how Osho influenced contemporary psychotherapy and modern psychology. Do you know that you can bring awareness to the present moment regardless of what you are doing? This short 8-minute active meditation is an alternative from practicing mindfulness in formal seated meditations. It can be done at any moment when it's safe. So hopefully not while you are driving or performing surgery when you might risk danger to yourself or others. The intention at the start and the end of this meditation: "My intention is to practice mindfulness, so I will be mindful and aware of the sensations in my body, and when I notice that my mind is wandering, I'll gently bring my awareness back to the sensations in my body". The benefits you might experience from this practice is to help you learn how to pause and take a step back in the midst of your daily activities, especially when you are distracted, multitasking, or feeling emotionally reactive. This meditation is inspired by the conversation with my podcast guest, Ayu Kartika Dewi (#30 - Mindfulness in Our Daily Lives).
