As far as Health Innovators go, Ron Robinson has cemented his place in the ever-shifting beauty landscape as a go-to-guy for all things skincare. He created BeautyStat first as a blog, and now as a successful skincare line. Along with BeautyStat, Ron has a social media following where he helps his audience navigate which ingredients work and which ones don't. But looking back, Ron tells us his career journey wasn't always a given to those who knew him from the beginning.Growing up, there were two options in Ron's family: be a doctor or a lawyer. When Ron strayed from the path that had been laid out for him, he became an innovator within his own family. Rather than pursue a career in medicine or law, Ron found that cosmetic chemistry blended his knowledge of science with his passion for creating new things. When Ron was hired at Clinique in 1990 (on the spot, we might add) he broke into the beauty industry and never looked back.To hear more of our chat with Ron Robinson, including the heart-warming full circle moment of when his mother finally “got” his career choice, listen to this episode wherever you get your podcasts!

The beauty industry is filled with experts, dermatologists, aestheticians and makeup artists, all trying to leverage their expertise in an increasingly crowded market. But the cosmetic chemist — the person who formulates products and oversees development — has long stayed behind the scenes. That changed when Ron Robinson debuted his skin-care brand, BeautyStat, where he is founder and CEO. After working as a cosmetic chemist at nearly all of the major beauty companies — including Estée Lauder Companies, Avon, Revlon and L'Oréal, for 25 years — Robinson decided to strike out on his own upon arming himself with compelling data. Robinson saw that there was a lack of stabilized vitamin C serums on the market and simultaneously saw strong Google search data for vitamin C. Thus, BeautyStat debuted with its hero product, the Universal C Skin Refiner in 2019, which Hailey Bieber now calls her “Holy Grail.” The brand, which started as a pure play DTC company, is sold at Violet Grey, Nordstom and Dermstore. Earlier this year, it launched in Ulta Beauty, where it is expanding nationwide. While Robinson was at ease formulating high-quality products, he didn't expect to be such a forward-facing founder. “I had no idea that I would have that type of consumer reception,” said Robinson on the latest episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast. “I launched the brand with content creators and influencers being the face of the brand, but every time I stepped out in front of the camera and I showed consumers, ‘Hey, this is our vitamin C, this is why it's important to use, this is why you need a stable form,' consumers listened in. They asked questions, they were intrigued. They wanted to try it, they wanted to buy it.”
Join Ekta for part 2 of an exclusive look into the fan favorite line, BeautyStat featuring the brand's co-founder and CMO, Paul Wahlgren. Paul shares the recent move into ULTA and how huge that has been for the brand overall, as well as the newest innovations Ron Robinson has been cooking up in his Chemistry lab to bring us healthier skin in new and breakthrough ways! Most Americans are deficient in Vitamin-C according to new research. Yet it's the one skin care ingredient dermatologists, cosmetic chemists and beauty editors all agree on. That's because the potent antioxidant is considered a powerhouse ingredient as it tackles fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and makes the skin glow. It's also critical in the production of skin's collagen. Not all Vitamin-C products are created equal and that's where the Vitamin-C game changer Ron Robinson enters this conversation. He created a shelf-stable, full strength Vitamin-C skin care product that delivers results from first application to the last. Ron is a veteran cosmetic chemist with over 20 years experience in creating innovative, big-selling beauty products for leading beauty brands including Clinique, Estee Lauder, La Mer, Revlon, Avon, and Lancome. Ron started his own beauty brand, BeautyStat Cosmetics in 2019 and is known for its award-winning vitamin C serum, Universal C Skin Refiner. Pure vitamin C is a proven and powerful skincare ingredient: it can reduce sun spots and hyperpigmentation and increase collagen production for brighter-looking and firmer skin. But all of these benefits do not come without a cost – vitamin C is also notoriously unstable and can oxidize quickly, becoming less efficient. According to Ron Robinson, a cosmetic chemist, once a vitamin C formula has turned brown or orange, it is no longer the powerhouse we expect it to be. After spending fifteen years in the beauty industry as a cosmetic chemist and product development executive for companies that include Clinique, Estee Lauder, Revlon, Avon and L’Oreal, Ron decided to create his own vitamin C formula, Beautystat. The difference is an encapsulated delivery system that helps minimize oxidation and maximize stability. What does this mean? His Vitamin C Serum is as potent from the first drop to the last. We sat down with Ron to discuss why vitamin C should be an essential step in everyone's routine, and how he came to discover this breakthrough formula.
Ron Robinson's mother wanted all of her sons to be doctors. Ron, who is now the Founder and CEO of BeautyStat Cosmetics, went as far as attending medical school before he decided it wasn't for him. Putting his background in chemistry to work he landed a job at Clinique and one of the first products he helped to formulate was their Turnaround products. From there he moved to mass brand Revlon and later Avon. Each job brought him closer to understanding the consumer. During the early days of social media, Ron saw a gap in the market and created the first iteration of BeautyStat which was a beauty community where he and a team of experts gave insider information about products and trends. But the stability of Vitamin C was a constant question he was asked about as an expert. He and a former colleague decided to work on a side project where they set out to stabilize this sought after ingredient and BeautyStat Cosmetics was born. Ron explains how his hero product, Universal C Skin Refiner, has become the darling of not only editors, racking up numerous awards, as well as consumers. How in just one year, the line has expanded both the products it offers and the outlets through which it is available. And how Covid-19 and the beauty industry's response has impacted his business. Ron explains that his position as a cosmetic chemist has made him view the clean beauty movement differently, why it is important for him to support BIPOC women in beauty and what types of individuals make the best entrepreneurs.

In 1942, Manitoba chose a startling way to promote the sale of war bonds -- it staged a Nazi invasion of Winnipeg. For one gripping day, soldiers captured the city, arrested its leaders, and oppressed its citizens. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe If Day, which one observer called "the biggest and most important publicity stunt" in Winnipeg's history. We'll also consider some forged wine and puzzle over some unnoticed car options. Intro: In 1649 Claude Mellan carved a portrait of Jesus with a single line. Actress, singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Caitlin Crosby knows a thing or two about inspiring others. Growing up in Hollywood and in a family that lived and breathed the entertainment industry, Caitlin has been immered in “success” since early on in her life. But she felt called to more-- helping others embrace their so-called imperfections, changing our perspective to see flaws as beautiful. Caitlin started giving and selling keys with inspiring messages like FEARLESS, BELIEVE or INSPIRE as jewelry. Her company, The Giving Keys have been sold at Nordstrom, Ron Robinson, Starbucks and over 1,400 other retail stores around the world. ... But what happens when you “make it”? What is the hidden side of success that creates vulnerability? Have you ever gotten everything you’ve ever wanted… and still felt a little stuck? I am so thankful for the openness of this incredible woman, and I can’t wait for you to hear her *real*, raw story.
