When one hears the term media tools there is an instantaneous association with technology and that can bring its own slew of fears and hesitancy. However, many media tools are created to make our lives easier, especially as entrepreneurs or a small business. Many tools, especially with the advancement of AI and virtual systems, help us save time and energy, especially with rote tasks. Media tools can range from a broad range of software, platforms and technology designed to create, distribute, analyze and manage various forms of media content. In this podcast I will cover some of my favorite media tools for the 21st century as well as some principles for their use and setting up the groundwork for creating systems that work. I usually keep a fairly current list of favorite tools I use on my resource page but do systematically study and implement some of the new tools available. I also cover some of the basic systems I use in my course, A New Way of Doing Business. The tools may change somewhat but the systems are the same. There is no way to cover all that is available in one episode but covering the basics will create a solid foundation for growth. Episode Description Episode 3 of the "Not 4 Prophet Podcast" delves into the different needs of Black professionals working in the nonprofit sector. Join hosts Trenia Parham and David DeVaughn as they share their experiences as seasoned professionals in the industry. They discuss the challenges and behind-the-scenes realities faced by Black leaders and professionals in the nonprofit world. Trenia and David reflect on their own journeys, starting from the early stages of their careers, where they sought employment for a paycheck and a chance to utilize their skills. As they moved up the ranks, they encountered different needs, such as seeking support and recognition for their work and decisions as leaders. They also share their struggles with bad bosses and lack of fair compensation, leading to burnout and frustration. Throughout the episode, the hosts emphasize the importance of recognizing the toxicity present in many nonprofit organizations, which may hinder Black leaders from making meaningful impacts. They encourage Black professionals to be honest with themselves and ask the hard questions about their role and purpose within these organizations. As the conversation evolves, Trenia and David highlight the current state of Black leaders in nonprofits, particularly in the midst of the ongoing pandemic. They acknowledge that many leaders are realizing the unsustainability of their situations and the need for change. However, they also address the challenge of finding a third path—a way to be impactful and make a difference while still taking care of oneself in a system that often does not prioritize the well-being of its staff. The hosts emphasize the importance of considering one's own needs and well-being first before deciding on the best course of action. They acknowledge the difficulty of navigating these complexities and the potential blowback from pushing for change within the organization. However, they encourage Black leaders to remain aware of their unique skills and value, recognizing that they can bring positive change within their sphere of influence. The episode concludes with the hosts urging Black leaders to be honest with themselves about their place within their current organizations and to explore other paths that may better align with their values and goals. They offer their support to those considering leaving the nonprofit sector or seeking alternative paths, emphasizing that it is essential to prioritize self-care and well-being throughout this process. For more insights and discussions on navigating the nonprofit space as Black professionals, tune in to the "Not 4 Prophet Podcast" and gain valuable insights from seasoned industry experts. Much of my conversation with Chris Pearce centered around being flexible in your style and leading authentically. Chris started his career in the Army, then spent a number of years in leadership roles in transport organisations such as FedEx, Linfox and MaxiTrans, and is now with ecoDynamics as Group Fleet and Asset Manager. The connection between flexibility and authenticity is always an interesting one. With some coaching clients, there is a challenge about being flexible in your style VERSUS being authentic. How can you be both? If you're being your authentic self, who you truly are, shouldn't you be consistent; people should know what they're getting? Yes. And no. It's how you use various styles that is the key. As Chris reflected on various leadership experiences he'd had, from the military to corporate life, and the impact they'd had on both him, the team and its performance, one of the interesting distinctions he made was between a style, and how you use it. He contrasts two different leaders he experienced early in his career, who both used the command and control style. He noted a significant difference in his experience as one boss wielded the style with a high care factor, and another pushed hard but you could see he wasn't his genuine self. The first used the style for the team, the second used the style for control. The outcomes were quite different – with the first leader, there was better team cohesion, there was never any doubt that they would achieve their goals, the bonds became strong. This set the tone for Chris - it's OK to be yourself as a leader, and that works better for your team. When you trust that they'll achieve the outcome, they are more likely to. His introduction to corporate life was ‘like walking into a circus without a ringmaster', as roles were so much less clear. This was his turn to create the clarity, to help the team to work towards a common goal, understanding the parts they played. Chris concludes our conversation with three pieces of advice for other leaders; keep learning, treat people as people, and have fun.

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs wrote an entire book on the idea that men need respect and women need love. A premise that he based on a single verse in the Bible. That, to me, is already problematic because the Bible is a compilation of books that cover a time span of several thousand years and is written by more than 50 different authors. Too often, when people pull out a single verse and build a premise on it, their premise doesn't align with the rest of the book. I think that is true here. Even more concerning is his idea that women don't need to be respected, only men do. While that seems to be a wildly popular idea among men, it actually sets women up as being lesser beings. I think it is hugely problematic to assert that men and women have very different needs and I also don't think it in any way aligns with either the overarching message of the Bible or the message of Jesus. Join me today as I examine whether men and women really have different needs. Coming into motherhood and navigating this journey doesn't look the same for every mama. Motherhood is hard. Motherhood is work. Motherhood is hardly one thing at once—it is everything all at once. But you don't always have to put a brave face on. In this new episode, one of our Empower Wellness Mamas, Dr. Marjorie Shavers, shares an incredible story of breaking and becoming and finding wellness as she navigates motherhood as a mom of a child with special needs. It is always wonderful to hear stories from different mamas. It's a reminder that it's not just us, and we are built to make it through. Tune in to hear more inspiring words from Marjorie—you might need this one, too

Today’s episode is with my guest Michele Dyer. Michele is a wife, mom to 2 boys, a Christian Leadership Coach and a Certified Behavior Specialist. Michele loves discovering new ways to help others identify their life’s calling and mission. Michele also cherishes her role as wife and mom. She and her husband John have been married since 1997, they have two boys, Alec and Caedon. Though she’s about to be an empty-nester, she’s about to figure this "parenting thing" out, and to help other mom’s “crack the code” of parenting each child according to their natural bent. After our conversation, I told Michele she needed to write a book on parenting! Such wisdom she gives in this episode! I am thrilled to have Michele join me as my guest today because we dive into two things I’m passionate about: encouraging women to discover the talents God has gifted them with, to put them into practice and how we can use personality tests as a tool in doing so. You may be an Enneagram enthusiast or you may be just shaking your head, but I promise, there is something for everyone in this episode! You will learn so much about parenting, how the Enneagram personality point system can help you identifty your strengths and how God can walk with you through your weaknesses, how we can use personality tests in marriage, so much more! I enjoyed our conversation so much and I know you will too! Runners over the age of 40 make up approximately 40% of all runners. And yet we don’t always give special consideration to the needs of this group of athletes. From basic changes in physiology to loss or Range of Motion and Strength, I cover the reasons your body feels different as an older runner and the things we need to look out for. As always feel free to check out my YouTube channel “The Mesh Tongue” for all things running as well.
EPISODE Bonus Episode Day 24 TITLE Working Together and Respecting Different Needs and Expectations GUEST Solo episode—Patricia Young EPISODE OVERVIEW After surviving a long 9 days when my kids were home from college with their guests, I talked about how I needed to figure out how to create and maintain balance in Bonus Episode 23 since my boys will be home for a month for winter break. Jacquelyn Strickland, who has been running the Highly Sensitive Person--HSP Gathering Retreats for many years commented on my post encouraging me to rethink my statement to “It will be important for the group [my family] to come up with ways that allow everyone to enjoy each other’s company while also respecting different needs and expectations.” This got me thinking about how I have made my HSP needs my problem instead of seeing that as a family, we need to figure out something that works for everyone. We also came up with the idea of setting up my son in the “North Wing” when he comes home (aka garage!). BIO Patricia Young, LCSW is a therapist in San Diego who is in private practice. Patricia works primarily with Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) helping them understand their HSPness, and to turn their perceived shortcomings into superpowers. Patricia is passionate about providing education to help HSPs and non-HSPs understand and truly appreciate all the gifts we have to offer.
