Tune in to Episode 6 in Season 4 of our BC's Path to Universal Child Care Podcast. Today we welcome you back to our podcast with our special guest: Sharon Gregson, the provincial spokesperson for the $10aDay Child Care Campaign, working with the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC.In this episode, we discuss the current state of childcare in BC, highlighting that only 10% of childcare programs are officially $10-a-day programs, leaving 74% of children without access to licensed childcare. We encourage you to visit their websites to explore the many resources available, and urge you to get involved by becoming a member of the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC. Whether you're a parent, an educator, or an advocate, there are ways to get involved —whether by signing petitions, joining community actions, or simply staying informed about the latest developments in child care policy. Child care is not just a personal issue; it's a societal one. A well-funded, high-quality, and accessible child care system benefits everyone —helping families thrive, supporting early childhood educators, and strengthening our communities and economy. The progress we've seen in recent years has been the result of decades of advocacy, and it's clear there is still more work to do. Sharon Gregson is the provincial spokesperson for the successful $10aDay Child Care Campaign working with the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC. She was twice elected as a Trustee to the Vancouver Board of Education. She represents British Columbia on the Board of the Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada (Child Care Now), and previously on the Child Care Human Resource Sector Council and Canadian Child Care Federation. Sharon is a feminist with a demonstrated history of working across sectors with stakeholders, including non-traditional allies, in child care public policy. She is skilled in campaign strategy and campaigning, government and stakeholder relations, and in working with traditional and social media. She was nominated for a YWCA Women of Distinction award in 2018 for her work on the successful $10aDay Child Care Plan and for developing Indigenous cultural competency resources for the ECE sector. Business in Vancouver (BIV) named Sharon in the Power 50 in Vancouver in 2022 - and one of the top 500 most influential business leaders in British Columbia in 2022 and 2023. She received the King Charles Coronation Medal in 2025.She is a past Director of the Early Years at a large unionized agency in East Vancouver managing human resources and child care operations, and she co-chaired the Vancouver Joint Childcare Council of public partners and non-governmental organizations. Sharon is also an ethical vegan and supporter of credit unions! We are grateful to have Sharon Gregson on our podcast once again, and we are delighted to her share more about her work within the childcare sector.

Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More, covers investments in renewable energy, Canadian sustainable companies, water investments, women's empowerment, plus… By Ron Robins, MBA Transcript & Links, Episode 134, July 12, 2024 Hello, Ron Robins here. So, welcome to this podcast episode 134 titled “Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More.” It's presented by Investing for the Soul. Investingforthesoul.com is your site for vital global ethical and sustainable investing mentoring, news, commentary, information, and resources. Now, remember that you can find a full transcript, and links to content – including stock symbols and bonus material – on this episode's podcast page located at investingforthesoul.com/podcasts. Also, a reminder. I do not evaluate any of the stocks or funds mentioned in these podcasts, nor do I receive any compensation from anyone covered in these podcasts. Furthermore, I will reveal to you any personal investments I have in the investments mentioned herein. Additionally, quotes about individual companies are brief. Please go to this podcast's webpage for links to the actual articles for more company and stock information. Also, some companies might be covered more than once and there are also 3 article links below that time didn't allow for me to cover here. ------------------------------------------------------------- These 50 Canadian corporations are betting big on green Now nearly all the articles covered in this episode relate to renewable energy investments – except this one. Though it's about Canadian companies, many of them will be of interest to ethical investors globally. Hence, I'm beginning with it and it's titled These 50 Canadian corporations are betting big on green. The editorial is by Rick Spence and appears on corporateknights.com. “Now in its 23rd year, the Best 50 helps track how Canadian businesses are meeting the low-carbon and green-transition challenge – as well as where they're getting stuck in the process… The companies that made the Best 50 are mostly corporations with more than $1 billion in annual revenues, as well as Crown corporations, large co-ops and members of the S&P/TSX Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Index. What sets them apart is their commitment to doing business differently – they're companies that derive significant revenue from greener products and services, invest in increasingly sustainable projects, and prioritize equity in their operations. Crucially, the companies' average sustainable investment (as a percentage of total investment) hit 58.9% this year, up 9% over last year's 49.7% – that's compared to just 8.4% for the average large Canadian corporation.” End quotes. Among the top public companies on the list are Brookfield Renewable Partners LP (NYSE:BEP), Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM), Cascades Inc. (CAS.TO), and BCE Inc. (BCE.TO). ------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More So, back to the renewable energy sector with this first article titled 3 Best Renewable Energy Stocks to Buy in July 2024, According to Analysts. It's by Sheryl Sheth and seen on nasdaq.com. Here are some of her comments. “1 Fluence Energy (NASDAQ:FLNC) is engaged in empowering the global clean energy transition by providing energy storage solutions. The company also offers cloud-based software solutions for renewables and energy storage. Importantly, Fluence Energy has the backing of two industry-leading companies, Siemens (DE:SIE) and AES Corp. (NYSE:AES)… On TipRanks, Fluence Energy stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 12 Buys and three Hold recommendations. The average Fluence Energy price target of $30.21 implies an impressive 83.9% upside potential from current levels. Meanwhile, Fluence Energy shares have plunged 31.1% so far in 2024. 2. ReNew Energy Global (NASDAQ:RNW) India-based ReNew Energy Global is one of the largest renewable companies in the world, with a clean energy portfolio of roughly 15.6GW (gigawatts) on a gross basis as of May 31. The company provides innovative and sustainable decarbonization solutions for corporates. Plus, it engages in the production of wind, solar, and hydropower and manufactures solar PV (photovoltaic) cells… With six unanimous Buy ratings, ReNew Energy Global stock commands a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks. The average ReNew Energy Global price target of $8.82 implies 45.1% upside potential from current levels. Year-to-date, ReNew Energy Global shares have lost 19.5%. 3. Clearway Energy, Inc. (NYSE:CWEN) claims to own one of the largest renewable energy portfolios in the U.S. The company has approximately 6,200 net MW (megawatts) of installed wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems. Plus, it owns another 2,500 net MW of environmentally-sound, highly efficient natural gas generation facilities. The company believes in rewarding shareholders with generous dividend payments… With six Buys and one Hold rating, Clearway Energy stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks. The average Clearway Energy Class C price target of $31 implies 27.6% upside potential from current levels. Clearway Energy shares have declined 8.4% so far in 2024.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Renewable Energy Stock Picks – and More Also, related to renewable energy is this article titled 3 ESG Funds to Buy As Sustainable Investing Gathers Steam. It's by Zacks Equity Research and found at au.sports.yahoo.com. Here are some comments on their picks from the Zack's analysts. “All of these funds carry a Zacks Mutual Fund Rank #2 (Buy). In addition, the minimum initial investment for these funds is within $5,000. We expect these funds to outperform their peers in the future… Unlike most of the fund-rating systems, the Zacks Mutual Fund Rank is not just focused on past performance but also on the likely future success of the fund. 1. Fidelity Select Environment and Alternative Energy Portfolio (FSLEX) The fund invests… in securities of companies mostly engaged in activities related to alternative and renewable energy, energy efficiency, pollution control, water infrastructure, waste and recycling technologies or other environmental support services. The non-diversified fund invests in U.S. and non-U.S. issuers alike… Fidelity Select Environment and Alternative Energy Portfolio has an annual expense ratio of 0.85%, which is below the category average of 1.09%. It has returned 4.9% over the past five years. 2. Parnassus Core Equity Fund - Investor Shares (PRBLX) aims for capital growth and current income through its investments… (It)… invests in large-capitalization companies in the United States that have long-term competitive advantages and relevancy, quality management teams and positive performance in the ESG criteria… Parnassus Core Equity Fund - Investor Shares has an annual expense ratio of 0.86%, which is below the category average of 0.93%. It has returned 9.1% over the past five years. 3. TIAA-CREF Core Impact Bond Fund Retail Class (TSBRX) The fund invests (most of) … its assets in bonds. TIAA-CREF Core Impact Bond Fund Retail Class gives particular consideration to environmental, social and governance criteria… TIAA-CREF Core Impact Bond Fund Retail Class has an annual expense ratio of 0.65%, which is below the category average of 0.80%. It has returned 3.2% over the past five years.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More And here is my next renewable energy article. It's titled The 3 Smartest Renewable Energy Stocks to Buy With $500 Right Now and is by Rich Duprey and found on investorplace.com. Now some brief quotes from Mr. Duprey on each of his picks. 1. NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) is the first renewable energy stock that investors should consider buying. It is the world's largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun and a top-tier stock in battery storage. At the end of 2023, NextEra had approximately 72 gigawatts (GW) of total capacity in its portfolio. Of that amount, half or 36 GW came from renewables, some 70% more than its nearest competitor with wind power represented as two-thirds of the total renewable capacity… NextEra Energy will be one of the top renewable energy stocks to buy that leads the way. 2. Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP) is the leading provider of hydropower in the country. It operates as one of the world's largest publicly traded platforms for renewable power and decarbonization solutions. Yet where 85% of Brookfield's portfolio was once hydropower generation, today it stands at about 50% as the company grew through mergers and acquisitions… Although it primarily has projects in North America and Latin America, more recently as the Neoen acquisition shows, it is expanding more towards Europe and Asia. Brookfield Renewable Partners is a renewable energy stock to buy because of its hydro sector dominance that cannot be easily, or readily, replicated. 3. First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) is the world's leading manufacturer of thin-film solar panel technology and a pure-play in the solar panel space. It focuses on the U.S. and Indian markets where the greatest booking potential lays, particularly in the domestic utility-scale market… First Solar has built a solid financial foundation and a strong balance sheet to weather future storms. Its thin-film cadmium telluride technology is distinctive in the industry that benefits from its simple manufacturing process. First Solar should also benefit from the Biden administration's protectionist trade policies. It recently imposed high-import barriers on cheaper Chinese panels.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More This last article takes us away from renewable energy. It's titled 6 impact investing firms and funds that are top picks from U.S. News. The article's authors are staff at equities.com. Now some brief quotes from the article. “Impact investing firms 1. Eaton Vance Corp. (EV) When this investment management firm bought Calvert Investment Management in 2016, it acquired a company that's been involved in responsible investing for years. It launched an ESG bond portfolio in 1987 and a non-U.S. ESG portfolio in 1992. In 1995, it debuted Calvert Impact Capital. Now, Calvert Impact offers notes targeting community investment, carbon reduction and a more inclusive banking system. It also offers several small business recovery funds. 2. Impax Asset Management Group PLC. (IPXAF) This is another firm that grew its impact investing offerings through an acquisition. In 2017, it announced that it would buy Pax World Management. Impax has worked with the World Bank to structure an impact bond to finance 300,000 water purifiers for schools and other institutions in Vietnam… 3. Trillium Asset Management. This ESG-focused fund provider offers impact investing strategies targeting sustainable agriculture, low-income housing, job creation and retention, Native American community development, financial services that help people avoid predatory payday lenders, environmental sustainability, development of domestic and international communities and child care. It typically directs investments to nonprofit loan funds or development banks and credit unions targeting historically underserved sections of society. Impact investing funds 1. First Trust Nasdaq Clean Edge Green Energy Index Fund (QCLN) This alternative energy fund tracks an index of securities issued by companies involved in advanced materials, energy intelligence, renewable electricity generation and renewable fuels, and energy storage and conversion. The $702 million fund has an expense ratio of 0.59%, or $59 per year for every $10,000 invested. It also paid a 30-day SEC yield of 1.2% as of the end of May. (It)… is up more than 60% over the past five years, though the last few years have been rough going for the fund. 2. Invesco Water Resources ETF (PHO) This ETF tracks an index of companies involved in the conservation and purification of water for homes, businesses and industries. Most of its holdings focused on resource security and basic needs, with a smaller percentage allocated to climate action. The $2.1 billion fund has an expense ratio of 0.6% and is up more than 80% over the past five years. 3. YWCA Women's Empowerment ETF (WOMN) This fund hits on a theme that is big in the impact investing community: women's empowerment. (It)… tracks an index of companies that ‘have strong policies and practices in support of women's empowerment and gender equality,' the fund's website says. Impact Shares donates all the net advisory profits from (the fund) to the YWCA. The $56 million ETF has an expense ratio of 0.75% and is up more than 74% over the past five years, beating its category average.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Honorable Mentions that time didn't allow me to cover here 1. If you're looking for a way to bring more life into your business and into how you're feeling, then this episode is for you. Don't miss: How Karen discovered pilates The importance of having a community  How her travel to Kenya to teach classes changed her as a person How she felt about the awards she received How her business thrived amidst COVID-19  What she does aside from pilates And more! Karen's Bio:  With a BFA in Dance Performance from East Carolina University, Karen has been dancing for the past 40 years, teaching for the past 27 years and performing for various artists such as Mia Michaels, Jay Norman, Marjon Van Grunsven, Tomi Galaska, Mary Carbonaro and Peter Grey Terhune. She has performed on the Regal Princess and Crown Princess Cruise ships, Madora, and other local artists. She is a STOTT Certified Pilates instructor. She is a Simonson Certified Dance instructor as well as CI Training Certified instructor, 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification, Reiki 1, 2, 3 Certified.   After discovering her love for movement and fitness, Karen discovered Pilates and Yoga. With a focus on enhancing core strength and bringing increased reach, flexibility, sure-footedness and agility, it made perfect sense for her to pair her love for dance with her next love, Pilates. She has been teaching Pilates, Dance, and Yoga for over 19 years in Vancouver, and continues to challenge her students with her various teaching techniques.   Combining Simonson Dance Technique with Pilates, Yoga and CI training, Karen has created a unique class format that not only allows the body to flow from movement to movement, it allows the mind to connect to the present moment, leaving her clients feeling rejuvenated, renewed, and restored. Connecting to their inner “wonder” allows the client to feel more balanced and grounded.   After returning from Kenya and Uganda in November 2013, Karen realized the importance of tuning into one's life purpose. After teaching women with HIV Pilates/Dance/Strength Training and listening to their life stories she now realizes her life purpose to inspire others, especially women to find their own voice just as she found after the past few years of focusing on finding me mine. Karen inspires and share her experiences with others in the hopes that it will help them believe that anything is possible, and everything is possible!   Karen was nominated for the 2021 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards for her work during the 2020 Covid 19 Pandemic.  Her dance team, The Kahlena Curbside Crew, was born and started dancing outside various Seniors Homes in North Vancouver and Vancouver, as well as elderly people's homes for Mother's Day, Father's Day, their birthdays, pop up performances outside Lions Gate Hospital for the 7pm Cheer, International Dance Day, Nurses Week, and their annual fundraising gala.  She was also voted into Impact Magazine's 2020 Top 10 Fitness instructors of BC and Kahlena Movement Studio has been named Favourite Pilates and Yoga Studio in North Vancouver by the North Shore News Readers Choice awards 3 years in a row.   Karen's Social Media links:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kahlenamovement/ (https://www.instagram.com/kahlenamovement/) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KahlenaMovement (https://www.facebook.com/KahlenaMovement) YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiNhnvLM0GgLrqvOu1kDekA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiNhnvLM0GgLrqvOu1kDekA) Website: https://kahlena.com/ (https://kahlena.com/)   Check out Karen's gifts for you: Watch the Mindful Movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S2FT-kCo9g&t=55s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S2FT-kCo9g&t=55s) Email info@kahlena.com to experience one of her classes.   This show's

Is it possible to create an ethical digital landscape? Katrina German of EthicalDigital.ca believes so. In this episode of Messaging on a Mission, she outlines how her organization is using research and strategy to create an internet that is respectful and kind. From increasing the number of women in technology-focused venture capital to expanding the number of indigenous women pursuing technology careers, she and her colleagues have a plan.   Episode Guest(s): Katrina German is an award-winning entrepreneur specializing in communications, technology, and digital strategy. As the CEO and founder of EthicalDigital.ca, she and her team are changing the trajectory of the internet through digital strategy, research, and big action. Katrina is in the CBC Future 40 Under 40, has won the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Entrepreneurship, Startup Canada Prairie Award for Innovation, represented Canada at the G20 YEA Summit in Berlin, Germany, and has won the prestigious international Women in Tech award for "Women in Communications". Katrina is a strong believer in measured results, radical creativity, and using technology to improve workflow.   Key Takeaways: We should be holding Facebook accountable to those same levels that we're holding other corporations to be ensuring that what they're doing and the activities that they're participating in are actually enhancing our society because they have such a strong role right now that's just beyond than anybody could have ever imagined.   Look at the Facebook issue not just from the perspective of public wellbeing, but also from a corporate law perspective. Hold the board of directors responsible for making certain their product is not harming people.   EthicalDigital.ca is doing a large research study with the diversity Institute at a Ryerson university to talk about what are the barriers for women entering into venture capital.   They are also working on a certification program for ethical digital marketing.   For ways to support a more ethical digital experience: Think about the kind of content you are putting out there. Are you creating unhealthy feelings of FOMO (fear of missing out)? Instead of posting just about yourself, post about others who are doing important work.   Try to inspire people, not scare them.   Turn off your phone notifications and only check your phone when you have time.     Useful Links:   ethicaldigital.ca   katrina@ethical.ca

This week we welcome Heather Odendaal. She shares her purpose of helping women get into a position of power, as the pandemic has heightened women falling off mid-career. “We have gone backwards as we have lost the pipeline for women in leadership roles”, explains Heather and drives into 3 strategies to reverse this trend. She explains how the pandemic has allowed women to rethink their day-to-day, created opportunities for inner work to help them shift from entrepreneurship to Corporate Roles, and how women are making lateral moves and changing departments.  About the Guest: Meet Heather Odendaal -- an accomplished Canadian entrepreneur, brand builder and event producer whose experience in corporate environments inspired her to create and co-found WNORTH, a global organization dedicated to the development of women mid-career on a trajectory towards senior executive Leadership. What originally started off as an annual conference in 2015, WNORTH now connects top female business leaders in corporate, public and entrepreneurial sectors through The Members' Club which provides a 100% virtual forum of online content and development opportunities including workshops, leadership masterminds, events and courses and more. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Heather and her team quickly pivoted to create virtual experiences for their members and conference attendees. They are hard at work highlighting and solving the problem of the insufficient support structures in North America for women in the workforce, which was even more pronounced in the last 12 months. Prior to launching her organization, Heather was employed as a sales executive for a Fortune 500company. There, she noticed the lack of women in senior executive positions and she and her husband decided to take matters into their own hands and launch WNORTH. Recognized in BizBash's 2021 and 2020 roundup of Canada's Most Influential Event Pros, Odendaal has worked on some of the world's largest and most influential events including the Whistler Film Festival, Crankworx Mountain Bike Festival and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Odendaal was previously nominated for the 2021 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards, the Whistler Excellence Awards Rising Star (2015 and 2016) and Innovative Business of the Year (2018). She is consistently featured in a variety of top tier publications and podcasts, and sits on the Forbes Business Council. Heather currently resides in Whistler, BC, and is a Director on the board of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. In her spare time, you can find her judging local food & wine festivals, and skiing with her husband and two children. Did you know that Conquer Local has its very own Digital Marketing Academy? It's a game-changer because the SaaS industry changes under our feet. We have Jacqueline Cook ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacquelinecook1/ ) (Jackie), Chief Strategy Officer at Vendasta ( https://www.vendasta.com/ ) , on the podcast to discuss the strategy behind the Conquer Local Academy. ( https://www.conquerlocal.com/academy/ ) After some research and listening to digital marketing agencies and entrepreneurs from different areas of the world, there was a realization that there was a need in the space for a digital marketing academy. It needed to be all-encompassing of various digital solutions that intertwine frequently. The Academy is built into a culture that embraces a community that agencies and entrepreneurs can grow and learn in. People learn differently; some learn by reading about it, and some want to watch videos at 2 am. The Academy was created to accommodate different learners in the way they want to learn, and on their time. She works with the CEO to shape Vendasta's long term strategy and to align both the culture, organizational design, and company metrics toward those long-term objectives. Jacqueline works across a number of diverse teams to execute cross-functional initiatives, collect and share key customer insights, and test new initiatives to drive Vendasta's growth levers. She is also the General Manager of the of Vendasta's high-growth mid-market customer segment, which currently contributes over half of the company's revenue and includes marketing, sales, success, support, and four product teams. Most recently, Jacqueline played a major role in Vendasta's $40M growth funding round, which marks the single largest technology investment in the prairies since the Canadian Venture Capital Private Equity Association (CVCA) started collecting data in 2013. Jacqueline is an alumnus of The Next 36 Entrepreneurial Institute, Canada's premier entrepreneurial leadership initiative. Donna Crooks' personal vision is to make a difference in the lives of others through her work and in her life. She is the Founder & Chief at Brain Snacks Co, a platform business with a mission to help close the gender gap by supporting women with core services, like study and workspace, supervised play for children, networking, career coaching, and professional development. Donna's career accelerated early. Despite her success, she found she lost ground in her career when she started her family. When she returned to work from her first two maternity leaves, her position was gone both times. Donna began to focus on the necessity for women to have choices, financial freedom, autonomy and capacity to weather adversity. Thinking of this problem, she began to wonder how she could diversify her own career and financial stability while designing a business that would help women be successful in managing all the demands of work and family. Thus, the idea for Brain Snacks Co was born. The Brain Snacks Co experience is all about choices for women from all walks of life, mothers and careerists, women on maternity leave, Indigenous women, women of colour, newcomers, and members of our LGBTQ+ communities. Even the food is inclusive, offering choices for vegan and gluten-free customers as well. Men are most welcome too! Ellen Stackable is the Executive Director of Poetic Justice, an organization that teaches creative writing to incarcerated women. She taught English and writing for over eighteen years at Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences, and she has her BSE from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In March of 2014, she helped start Poetic Justice, working with incarcerated women at the Tulsa County Jail. Poetic Justice classes give a voice to the voiceless and empowers women to change as they engage in self-reflective, therapeutic writing. Poetic Justice now has sixty volunteers who teach classes to incarcerated women every week at the Tulsa County Jail, at every women’s prison in Oklahoma, a rehab in Tijuana, Mexico, and at the San Diego County jail. This last year, Poetic Justice held a day long workshop on empathy called, “The Human Factor” that all wardens, deputy wardens, and chief guards were required to attend. Every time I speak with someone that helps people recover from physical or sexual trauma, I am in awe. I ask them all the same question; How do you do it? How do you hear stories of abuse every day and still find a way to drive home and live a normal life? The answer is always something about self-care, but I have a feeling it’s also something about what kind of person they are. They are the kind of person that dedicates a big part of their life to helping people that need it the most. Something in them is able to hear those stories and still find a way to not break down, to not become disillusioned with humanity, and to not become cynical. Therapists throw around a term called compassion fatigue. It’s when a therapist hears the same stories over and over again and it does get to them. They are very empathetic people, and when their empathy has been bombarded with trauma after trauma, their brain has one solution to solve this problem: Apathy. They become apathetic, meaning they give zero forks about anyone or any problem that other people may have. It’s not because they don’t care. It’s because they cared too much and have been overwhelmed by their work. I have to assume that therapists that work with trauma victims have to be at a higher risk for compassion fatigue. Something drives them to this work. I have to assume trauma specialists simply have a lot of love to share and so they decided to find the people that needed it the most. Our guest this week, Megan Garza, is a trauma specialist that works with the YWCA. Apparently, their organization offers free counseling to those that need it the most. These are some amazing people. Societal responsibility is an ethical framework which suggests that an entity, be it individual, corporate or governmental, has an obligation to act for the benefit of society at large. Societal responsibility is arguable a duty every individual has to perform so as to maintain a balance between the economy and our ecosystem. A trade-off may exist between economic development, in the material sense, and the welfare of the society though this is increasingly being challenged because of pollution and climate change issues. To what degree should societal responsibility include sustainable development? Should it pertain mainly to corporations and governments, or to everyone whose action may impact the environment and society? Should this responsibility be passive, by avoiding socially harmful acts and or active, by performing activities that directly help advance societal goals? Brandon's love and foundation of music began at a very young age. He recalls getting on stage with his grandfather, Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Hughie Wylie, at Bluegrass Festivals as young as 3 and 4 years old. He discovered his passion for singing when he was just 6, and started playing the guitar at 21. Brandon's striking voice has been compared to such greats as Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Jr. Through the years, Brandon has had the opportunity to play many Southeastern venues including, The Georgia World Congress Center, the North Georgia State Fair and Brothers Bar in Jacksonville, Alabama. Brandon's most prominent musical influences include Merle Haggard, the Eagles, and Garth Brooks. Cutting his teeth on old country songs, as well as rock and roll classics from such artists as, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, and John Mellencamp, has played a part in defining his style. Brandon states, “I would never define myself as simply rock or country, but a mixture of many styles. I simply like to play good music no matter where it originated.”.
