Since your tonsils are your lymphatic organs and your veins are in charge of dumping toxins into your neck's lymphatic system as part of your brain's detoxification process, having your tonsils removed results in inflammation caused by the toxins. In this episode, Dr. Nicole will discuss ways to address the underlying causes, go in-depth to avoid wasting time, and share her experience with a recent emotional detox. Fun Fact: Sometimes your neck issues are related to your spine or lymphatic irritation.  We also have sinuses in our faces and brains, which are a part of the venous system that aids in the detoxification of our brains. Through deodorants, dental work, etc., people are directly getting exposed to harmful toxins. You do have a blood-brain barrier, but a number of things can, regrettably, interfere with it. We'll be delving further into the topic of how dental problems and sinuses affect our thyroid, parathyroid, and breast health on this week's episode of Integrative Wellness Radio. What you'll learn: Why we have sinuses in our brain and how they help to detoxify our brain.  Why does our brain need to detoxify? Despite having a blood-brain barrier, how do toxins enter our brains?  How can removing your tonsils create inflammation in your neck How does our blood-brain barrier get disrupted How having dental problems might cause toxins to enter our brains? Plus, the phenomenon of "pregnancy nose" is apparently a REAL thing There was a groom who recently had some very interesting and sexual vows for his bride to be, and a great story about a used car dealer in Racine that helped a woman get a new car after she was mistreated at another used car dealership. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Cristi: What do we know in natural health about "functional dyspepsia?" I just had an upper endoscopy to diagnose the cause of a burning sensation in my stomach just under my right ribcage usually right after eating/while eating that seems to respond to an amount of food rather than any particular food. Before this, the gastro had me do a stool test that was negative for H. Pylori. They took biopsies during the upper endo, but the doctor says he doesn't expect to find anything. He said he saw irritation in the stomach lining and it was probably caused by "functional dyspepsia" which was an imbalance of acid in the stomach. He said the causes of this could be different things, including stress (which I admittedly have a lot of, but I do what I can to control it) and that otherwise, causes were unknown, but that I could just take Pepsid! How long? Oh, maybe forever...Needless to say, I'm not doing that. SO, if all I know is that the acid is "imbalanced," how do I balance it? My diet, exercise, and supplement regimen are all along the lines of what you advise, so none of the other causes of this "disfunction" (NSAID use, fried/unhealthy fat foods, alcohol excess) make sense. Thank you!   Cristi: This is an add-on to my previous question about "functional dyspepsia." Another strange detail: I can "feel" the spot in my stomach that burns after eating during certain abdominal exercises. It's not pain, but I can feel it almost like it's an internal healing injury while doing the exercise.   Jillian: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have a question regarding research on SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). I recently heard that Australian researchers had found a blood marker that could indicate the potential for SIDS. They noticed a significantly lower enzyme level of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) which impacts an infants ability to wake out of a deep sleep in the infants who died from SIDS. I've also read that high levels alpha fetoprotein in mothers can be another indicator for potential SIDS. Lastly, I've read that infants that died from SIDS also had higher levels of serotonin. With your knowledge, do any of these reasons seem connected? Are there things that a mother can do before and while pregnant to help her infant have a decreased risk based on this research. I know the alpha fetoprotein is an issue of the liver. Are there ways that mothers can support their livers better during pregnancy? Thank you for all that you do! Jillian   Janet: Greetings! Would you recommend IV NAD+? Single injection or a series of six? Thank you for spreading your knowledge. I wish everyone would listen.   Anonymous: Hello Doc! Thank you for your endless & genuine care for the health of everybody! I know there is no diagnosis, treating or curing any disease in your practice, but, a few months ago I had floors/carpet ripped up in my house which I'm sure put a BUNCH of allergens in the air. I work in a steel shop that has pollutants and irritants as well. The ear, nose, & throat doctor sent me for a CT scan and my nasal cavities are full of puss, hindering my smell/taste. I can breathe clear for the most part, but, I blow my nose all the time, sometimes sneeze 4 or 5 times in a row and from the inflammation it's all water. I'm getting nasal drip all day and I'm sure when I'm sleeping too, which I believe, will lead to bacteria in my gut. I was given 2 weeks of antibiotics which helped a little to clear it up and get the smell/taste back. Now its going away again. I don't want the shots they recommended putting more antibiotics in me, seeing as I'm working majorly on my health, and that would be a set back for sure. Do you have experience in your practice with sinus problems this bad in people? am I too far gone to just take a Mold lab- test, and do a mold protocol, would this help any? The treatment they want to do is way too costly. Thank you so much again and I ALWAYS trust your knowledge!!   Julia: Hi, my husband diagnosed with hashimoto's thyroiditis, can you tell me please what you know about? And what we can do about ?   Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right!   - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2403 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? Sinus issues plague more than 29 million people in the United States. Sinusitis or a sinus infection is a common condition and can occur in adults and children after an upper respiratory infection, a common cold, or allergies. Sinuses are hollow cavities found near your nasal passage and eyes. The infection becomes trapped in the sinus cavities and may cause inflammation, pressure and pain. There are different types of sinusitis including acute, subacute, chronic or recurrent. Symptoms of sinusitis may include runny nose or other cold symptoms lasting longer than 10 days, postnasal drip, headaches, facial discomfort, bad breath, cough, fever, sore throat and swelling around the eyes. Check out today's questions:  Chris: Hi Stephen, Big fan of all the work you do and the free content you provide. I recently had a at home male hormone blood test done as i was suspecting low testosterone. I feel fatigued upon waking despite 8 hours of sleep, no morning erections, fat around the breasts and belly button despite having a fairly lean waist and a inability to build muscle were my main symptoms. My lifestyle is stress free apart from my workouts which i do for 1 hour 3 times per week on my off days from work. I work 4 days at a garden centre which is a physical job. I am on my feet for 7 hours a day and average at around 15000 steps a day on my work days (8000 on my off days). I sleep 8 hours a night and eat 4000 calories a day of whole foods such as oats, sweet potatoes, fruit, veg, rice, yogurt, cheese, whey protein, chicken, beef. My digestion on the whole is pretty good. I do not have kids, single and my job is relatively stress free. Below are my results of the test. The first number is my result and the second set of numbers is the conventional medicine range, not the optimal range. I have left the measurements out as they are different in the UK.Albumin - 35.3/35-50FSH - 1.2/1.5-12.4, LH - 5.7/1.7-8.6, Oestradiol - 151/41-159, Testosterone - 20/8.64 29SHBG - 49/18.3-54.1, Free Testosterone (Calculated) - 0.359/0.2-0.62, Prolactin - 263/86-324 TSH - 1.70/0.27-4.20 (I am on Levothyroxine for low Thyroid), Free T4 - 19.80/12.0-22.0,PSA -0.783/

He was hospitalized for two weeks. A sneeze produces pressurized air that can explode at speeds of 100 miles per hour. In Dr. Friedman’s office, he’s seen patients come in with cracked ribs, debilitating headaches and herniated discs after sneezing. Dr. Friedman shares the best way to sneeze to protect yourself from being injured.Health Risks of Drinking Raw Cow’s MilkIf you have consumed raw cow’s milk, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says you need to see a doctor. The CDC was especially concerned that people who bought raw milk from a company called Udder Milk could be infected with a serious germ called Brucella abortus. They issued a national warning when a New Jersey woman became ill after drinking raw milk from the company. The infection can destroy the spleen, liver and heart valves and may eventually lead to death. Despite decades of government and industry propaganda about the health benefits of dairy products, unbiased science proves that cow’s milk is not healthy for humans (raw or pasteurized). Contrary to all those milk mustache ads, milk doesn’t build strong bones. In fact, research shows milk is a contributing factor to the cause of brittle bones. We are taught as children if we want to grow up big and strong we need to drink milk. Yet, children that drink milk get more chronic ear infections, have more allergies, are more likely to be overweight, and are at greater risk of diabetes. Dr. Friedman and Kim discuss why milk is not a good source of calcium and offer other, more beneficial foods the provide an appropriate calcium/magnesium ratio.Coffee Enemas Coffee Enemas are becoming trendy for health and well-being after actress Gweneth Paltrow featured an at-home device in her wellness magazine Goop. Many other celebrities have embraced coffee enemas for improving health, including Madonna and Suzanne Somers. Coffee enemas are a type of cleanse in which you insert coffee through the rectum into the colon. This therapy has been used as a remedy for everything from depression and autoimmune disease to allergies and even cancer. Dr. Friedman and Kim chime in on this latest trend and discuss the potential health risks, including infection, rectal burns, perforation, proctocolitis (inflammation of the rectum and colon) and even death. Oatmeal: Good or Bad? Research has proven oats can help lower cholesterol, balance blood sugar and reduce the risk of heart attacks. But, that isn't the whole story according to Paleo Diet advocates. They claim all grains are unhealthy and since "our caveman ancestors didn’t eat them, we shouldn’t either.” Dr. Friedman and Kim debunk this fad diet restriction and discuss the health benefits of adding oats to your diet.Sponsor:Now you can save money on your life insurance just for being healthy. Welcome to our first Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! We're getting ready to answer some of our community's amazing questions on wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging. I'm looking forward to sharing those answers with you so let's get started! Scott: Hi Dr. Cabral - I recently accompanied my fiance on her visit to the Wellness Institute. I must say I'm thoroughly impressed with the whole experience, especially with the amount of time and effort you put into each appointment/consultation. My fiance has me hooked on the podcasts! Thank you very much for the knowledge you share with us. With that said, I have some questions of my own, but first, just a little background. I'm a 30 year old male who played at a very high level of soccer up until graduating from school, and since then, still play quite competitively. I've always been prone to injuries and most recently I've been diagnosed with bulging discs in my lower back (L5) as well as in my C3/C4, C4/C5 and stenosis in my C5/C6 - quite a mess right now. Long story short, I've been in a lot of pain over the last two weeks with the bulging pressing on the cervical nerves radiating down my shoulder and into my hand. My questions are which supplements do you recommend I take to help in the healing process? I've read about MSM, Omega 3, and Glucosamine and Chondroitin. I haven't heard of MSM, but read that it's a "miracle drug". Where does one purchase these or other types of supplements? And lastly, I'm hoping you have a recommendation on any exercises (I envision you as the Wikipedia of health - my apologies, I'm asking too much), whether that be an inversion board or some other type of exercise. I've been advised to go see a spinal specialist and will be making appointments today. Thank you again for the podcast service and such a great practice! Regards, Scott   Jen: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thanks for all the great information you've provided in your podcasts. I've learned so much! My question today is related to excessive sweating and body odor when doing so. My teenage stepdaughter is very active in sports. She's muscular and strong, bigger than most girls her age, but 'solid' not flabby. Based on my experience, she sweats more than most grown men and her body odor when sweating is quite pungent. Her clothes smell like a stale dirty gym locker room and must be washed immediately. Her father (my husband) and her sister (my other stepdaughter) do not have this issue at all. It might be something genetic from her biological mom's family, but that's unknown to us. Do you have any suggestions for what might be causing this and how we might help prevent this? Thanks for all the help you provide to your listeners!!   Lisa: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have 2 questions for you that I hope you can help me with. I recently read a book, Eating on the Wild Side, and I loved learning about eating the right foods. In this book they say the skins of fruit and veggies are nutritious......However, now Im reading The Plant Paradox and its about lectins and how harmful they are for us and its in the skins of our fruits and veggies. What is your opinion on lectins? My other question is about the OATS testing. I did this testing, however, I also do the NutrEval testing....can you explain the difference? The OATS test showed no yeast, but the NutrEval showed high yeast. This is confusing for me and would like your input. Thank you so much for everything you do and God bless your family! Lisa   Mariellen: Thanks for everything you do for your listeners. I previously wrote in and ordered the hormone test and had my consult with your health coach and just ordered the DIM Evail and adrenal response complete care. I am on month 2 of the candida protocol and haven't stuck to the diet as well as I should, but have noticed reduced bloating and other benefits. I also take your Daily Activated Multivitamin. I feel like everything and anything gives me headaches.. I have been using the netti pot and when I have my bad headaches it does make me feel a little better, but notice after I use it when I bend over.. water pours of my nose and not sure if it's normal when I use it I can sometimes feel it in my throat. My headaches are always the back of my head, my ears, my sinuses and my eyes always hurt and burn when I get them. They are usually pulsating. I also had trouble swallowing and getting food down. I have been choking here and there. I also have heart burn and do not talk anything for that. Sometimes when I swallow my pills for the candida protocol and my vitamin, the side of my stomach will start throbbing with pain. Sometimes it even feels like it's hard to breathe and I always feel the need to clear my throat. My thyroid is ok I have had that checked out. Any thoughts would help and any natural remedies would be great seeing as I do not want to take anything for acid reflex etc.   Ewa: Hello, thanks dr Cabral for all that you do, so grateful and appreciate you daily! I would like to know what you suggest I do regarding me very intense yellow urine. This has been the case for about 6 weeks. I live mostly a healthy lifestyle, with food exercise and weight under control. I drink plenty of water , Dr Cabral daily support shake f breakfast, and your probiotic. I take 120 mg extra magnesium glycinate daily , can that cause the discoloring, even tho I dont notice any difference the days I forget the magnesium... I cant recall any particular diet change when this all began ... appreciate your opinion on this, thanks a bunch! Ewa (like Eva, but you can spell it out any way you like ;) Im going to the bathroom A LOT, at least every hour and have been doing so even before this color change happened. Thought that should be included in the bigger picture in case that helps as a clue... Thanks a bunch! Ewa

I hope you had a great week and are ready to get started with this weekend's first Cabral HouseCall where we answer our community's questions! Here is today's Q&A:  Sinjin: Hello Dr. Cabral and team! First off thank you all so much for making these podcasts happen! I am a new listener and have been learning so much from your talks and really enjoying the open mindedness you have with health and individuality. So, thank you! I am going to tell you a little bit of my story so my questions can hopefully be easily answered and explained appropriately! I am a 25 year old male and have been slowly over the past few years starting to understand how important it is to be taking my health more seriously and looking at healing with a holistic approach. I have been struggling with asthma my whole life it seems, using inhalers and different medications on and off. As I get older I seem to have very high anxiety outbursts when it comes to health issues, thinking that I have the worst of the worst. I have realized by changing my diet to more plant based I have not had much breathing problems. When I was in college I got bronchitis pretty bad and was put on antibiotics for about a month straight and none of them seemed to work. I ended up somehow healing that by switching my diet briefly and using different herbal remedies. Not sticking with a plant based diet I was constantly having these reoccurring lung problems. About a year ago I got a sinus infection pretty bad and tried to work through it but ended up going to the doctor and got put on antibiotics that again, that didn’t work. So, I decided to just figure it out on my own and it got pretty bad and I started to get swollen lymph nodes. I also was experiencing burning sensations in the back of my throat every morning. So, I went to a different doctor, which explained that I have LPR and a bacterial overgrowth in my sinuses. I was put on two different prescriptions and given more antibiotics. I was also seeing an acupuncturist who explained that I didn’t need to take the antibiotics and that I could heal this with a diet change (no dairy or sugar) and lemon water basically. This seemed to help very much but still no cure. I took the prescriptions for a while but never took the antibiotic that was prescribed. I also got blood work done to make sure the swollen lymph nodes weren’t a sign of something different. My blood work came back great the doctor said except I was slightly vitamin D deficient, but nothing to worry about and just to get a little more sun. He felt I had high anxiety as well. I have been taking an internship in the Florida keys for a little over a month and haven’t been to the doctor. I did a 10 day fast before I came down here and have been on a plant based diet since I have been down here as well. My asthma seems pretty well suppressed and I use a netti pot at least once a day, which has been managing my sinus infection and congestion. I just started your ENT protocol about a week ago but I still experience congested nose in the morning and see a little bit of yellow in my morning snot after using the netti pot. I also still have the swollen lymph nodes in my neck. There are about 8 that I can feel and I have noticed them for almost a year now (no idea how long they have been swollen, maybe longer!). As I continue to experiment with this new diet change, I notice that I have really bad smelling gas as well and this isn’t a new occurrence either. This has been going on for a few years as well. From all the podcasts I have listened to of yours I feel that I probably have candida or bacterial overgrowth in my gut and feel that you will recommend the candida protocol. I am hoping you could give me an explanation about the swollen lymph nodes as well as what you think will really help clear up all this congestion and sinus infection for good. Within the past year I have also started to notice that I have been gaining new moles and also cherry angiomas and am wondering what causes these to appear. If you can recommend any practitioners within your field near the Florida Keys or a website to find reliable holistic doctors and dentists that would be so much help! I know these are a lot of questions and I know you have podcasts that touch on these. I will listen through more to continue learning. Thank you so much for doing podcasts and spreading your wealth of knowledge! Many of us have a lot to learn about the truth of medicine and what we can do to really start living optimally. We all are constantly learning and yourself and people alike really motivate me to stay positive and work on my health in a holistic way. Keep up the great work and thank you so much for answering so many of our questions! I’ll be listening! Questions How to heal asthma and anxiety? What is causing the swollen lymph nodes?*** How to totally beat this sinus infection and congestion?*** What can I do to not have stinky gas constantly? Where can I find holistic practitioners near me?*** What causes cherry angiomas and can I get rid of them? Anon: Hi Dr Cabral, I have had trouble sweating for as long as I can remember. I only sweat from my head / hairline. After an intense workout, my head will be full of sweat... but the rest of my body will be dry. I know I am working out hard enough to break a sweat (I wear a heart rate monitor, and hit zones 4 and 5.). Why do you think this happen? Do you have any recommendations on how to balance this? CC: Hello, My husband has an enlarged prostate. He has zero sex drive, but cannot take testosterone due to his issue. Is there anything he can try homeopathically? We are far too young not to have sex anymore. You are awesome and I love your show! Toni: Hello! I have been using MACA powder in my smoothies, coffee every day due to the female estrogen dominant health benefits. I just recently saw in fine print on the package “This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.” and then under that it says "EAT IN GOOD HEALTH" WHAT?! (brand is sold at whole foods, it is organic from navitas naturals) Is this something to be worried about? Do you recommend MACA as an added daily boost to a baseline healthy diet? I love the flavor and texture it gives my coffee and oatmeal. Thanks! Anon: Hi Doctor Cabral, I have a "medical grade" silicone implant in my face, of my doing. I wasn't happy with my appearance. How do feel about this material inside the human body? Supposedly it will last a lifetime and have no effects whatsoever. Now that I am more into health, I may be regretting my decision to do this...... Any thoughts welcomes to help put me at ease...or not. thank you Mary: Thank you for your help! I love your podcast! Do you have any thoughts on cerebral palsy? Any recommendations for treatment? Mary: Hi again! Do you have any suggestion for managing or healing Raynaud's? Suzanne: My front teeth top and bottom are becoming very translucent. My partner actually pointed this out as very noticeable as did my parents. They look gray. Almost 1/2 of the tooth. How can I stop/fix this? I do battle with candida etc and get heartburn a lot. Will I have to get veneers? Anyway to naturally help this or fix this. What causes this? (I am 33 years old, drink coffee in am and wine on weekends) Sincerely, Suzanne I hope you enjoyed today's Q&A and I'll be back tomorrow with another Cabral HouseCall! - - - Show Notes: http://StephenCabral.com/463 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

It's time to get started with our first #HouseCall of the weekend! We have so many great community questions this weekend and it's best we just dive right in! Sue: Hi, Few questions regarding cooking. I often cook with coconut oil as I hear cooking with olive oil isn't healthy? Please can you confirm if I'm doing the right thing. Also, I often heat food up I've cooked in the microwave - can you let me know what the dangers to this are?? Thanks for answering. I love your show!   Lindsey: Hi Stephen, Quick question as I know you have lots of questions. You talk about ginger tea a lot and I love ginger.. do you have a specific recipe for this tea? Thanks   Jess: Hello!! Thank you for all that your doing in the world, would you be able to talk about Miso soup? Is it healthy and beneficial to our bodies? Thanks in advance!   Brook: Hi, Dr. Cabral. For around 1.5 years my husband (23 yo) has needed to wear a breathing strip 24/7. He has suffered from asthma since he was five years old, but this is a relatively new issue resulting in him needing to breath through his mouth and wear breathing strips out in public which is very embarrassing for him. He recently visited an ENT. The ENT Dr. said that he has a mildly deviated septum but the main issue is inflamed blood vessels that partially block his nasal passages. He was prescribed a nasal steroid, Flonase, and the doctor said that if the steroid doesn't help then surgery could be an option. In the last 1.5 years his diet has improved tremendously but he now has more stress in his daily life. In addition, he does take Advair twice daily for his asthma, which is his only prescription medication. My husband has voiced the desire to get off his Advair, but we're not sure how to begin that journey along with figuring out how what to do about his nasal vessels and breathing. Thanks so much, Dr. Cabral. I really enjoy your podcast and am thankful for your knowledge and love for healing. Hope to implement and teach patients about functional principals once I start working as an RN! Brooke   Anon: Hi Dr Cabral, thanks for everything you do. I have rather an embarrassing question but don't know who else to turn to. My doctor says I'm fine but I don't feel fine. I recently noticed gray stains on all my bra cups and sometimes, my nipples would get very itchy. I'm 25 years old and not pregnant. My grandmother (on my mom's side) had breast cancer. Thanks in advance for your help    Yvonne: Hi doctor, I'm a 28 year old female. I always have whitish vaginal discharge without any pain or itchiness. But, if I have sex with my partner, cheesy cottage white discharge is emitted and vagina will start feeling itchy and sex will feel painful. If i do not have sex, I have another kind of vaginal discharge before and after my period. Is this normal?   Haley: Why do you recommend not cooking with oils? I've read that baking/sauteeing/etc with coconut oil (supposedly because it has a higher temperature tolerance) is okay. I would love to know why you recommend cooking without oils - I think I heard you mention that in episode #357, when sharing your favorite healthy fries recipe. Let me know! Sinuses are air-filled cavities in the head that are lined by mucous membranes that lead through small openings into the nasal cavity. When the mucous membranes become swollen and inflamed from infectious or allergic sources, the sinus openings into the nasal cavity become blocked. When this occurs, sinusitis develops resulting in more blockage and infection. There are two main categories of sinusitis: acute and chronic. Sinusitis is usually preceded by a cold, allergy attack or irritation from environmental pollutants. Often, the resulting symptoms, such as nasal pressure, nasal congestion, a "runny nose," and fever, run their course in a few days. However, if symptoms persist, a bacterial infection or acute sinusitis may develop. If sinusitis occurs frequently or lasts three months or longer, it may be chronic sinusitis.Dr Lisa Wilson is here to discuss your sinuses and give suggestions for how to keep a healthy sinus.

Silent reflux causes stomach acid to back up into your nasal airway, throat, and voice box and can be the reason for your chronic cough. If you have trouble breathing in, you may be one of more than 100 million Americans suffering from Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR), otherwise known as silent reflux. There are two valves located at both ends of your esophagus (called a sphincter muscle) that help the contents in your stomach flow from one end to the other. However, with LPR, the sphincter muscles don't work properly and stomach acid moves back into the throat, nasal airway and voice box.Unlike acid reflux where you can feel indigestion and heartburn, the symptoms you feel if you have LPR are very different and are exactly what the name suggests: silent.Symptoms include hoarseness, postnasal drip, sinusitis, allergies, asthma, sore throat, trouble swallowing, and cough. What is enigmatic chronic cough and how is it related to LPR?An enigma is defined as something that is difficult to interpret or understand and very mysterious. An enigmatic chronic cough is when you have a cough that has been present for eight weeks or more, and you are unable to identify and treat what is causing you to be chronically coughing.Since LPR causes acid to back-track through your esophagus and into your throat, nasal airway and voice box, chronic coughing is a very common symptom. How can you identify if your symptoms represent silent reflux? One way is by following a two-week "reflux boot camp."For two weeks, limit your acidic food intake; do not drink or eat anything within four hours of bedtime; and avoid processed food, alcohol, energy drinks, coffee, and carbonated beverages. What else do you need to know about preventing and treating silent reflux?Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of the New York Medical College, Jamie Koufman, MD, shares the difference between silent reflux and acid reflux and the causes of silent reflux. She also explains the two-week boot camp that can help relieve your symptoms of silent reflux.
