First up, cartoonist Mattie Lubchansky and writer Jaya Saxena attempt to charm us with a requel based on a 1973 snake-centric creature feature, "Sssssss!" (Emphasis ours; This is important.) That's not a typo in the title above — Mattie and Jaya's version is spelled with eight esses and an exclaimation point, rather than the original's seven and no exclaimation point. Greetings Hitchhikers & welcome to our second entry for It Came from Late Night TV Month for EP. 40 where we are bringing to you Sssssss (1973)!!! First things first, we want to apologize for the poor audio quality we are regrettably exposing you to for this episode. Skype wasn’t our friend the night we recorded this show and our schedules didn’t allow us time to re-record segments that truly needed redone. This is the best chicken salad we could come up with. Anyways, we ask, “What exactly did Strother Martin inject Dirk Benedict with in one particular scene and was Harry, the drunken snake once human or a real snake?” Also, we discuss our favorite special FX/transformation movies from yesteryear. Our personal feelings toward the snake kingdom are revealed and we spitball ideas for the sequel that never happened.

Ophidiophobes beware! Episode 39 sees Andy and Mitch joined by the co-director of Slaughter Movie House, the director of short films Call Girl, The Stylist, 42 Counts and the upcoming One Last Meal (starring former guest Matt Mercer), it's Jill Gevargizian!  Her chosen film? ANACONDA! Emerging from a time when big monster movies were all the rage (see Lake Placid, Godzilla etc), Luis Llosa's 1997 jungle thriller is a scaly delight. With a cast that features Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson and a truly "has to be seen to be believed" performance from Jon Voight as Cajun priest turned poacher Paul Serone, Anaconda is a film well worth your time. Sssssss-eek it out!  The synopsis is as follows:  Filmmaker Terri Flores is traveling deep in the Amazon jungle looking for a forgotten tribe. Terri and her crew, which includes an anthropologist and a cameraman, come across Paul, who is stranded on the riverbank. He offers to help them find the tribe, but his secretive behavior puts everyone on edge. They realize too late that he's using them to find a legendary anaconda that's worth a fortune -- if they can catch it. You can find out more about Jill Gevargizian by following her at her website! Tanner, Bobby, and Mike are here to talk about a movie with one of the strangest titles of all time. Sssssss (7 S's), starts out as a classic Universal Monster movie but soon devolves into monologues about snake religion, snake racism and the belief that the title "king" in King Cobra actually means it's part of the royal family. It's a very, very strange movie that makes for some great Grindbin fodder.

VHS Rewind! Season 5 Episode 4 VHSRewind! - Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) With this week’s episode, VHS Rewind is correcting a major faux pas: we have never before tackled any of the output of one of the shining stars of our youth: Mr. Captain Kirk/T.J Hooker himself, William Shatner. The Shat was always around while we were growing up in the 1970s/1980s, not just because of STAR TREK and, later, T.J. HOOKER but because Shat was everywhere on TV: BARBARY COAST was another show he did which we watched because, well, Captain Kirk was on it; guest spots on every show we watched as kids: SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN; BARNABY JONES; HAWAII 5-O; IRONSIDE, KUNG FU; and guest spots on every tv show we didn’t watch as kids (PIONEER WOMAN, anyone? POLICE SURGEON??). Then there were some incredible TV movies like HORROR AT 37,000 FEET, DISASTER ON THE COASTLINER and the classic PRAY FOR THE WILDCATS (with that once of a lifetime cast of Andy Griffith (playing the dangerous psychotic for a change) + Shat + Robert Reed + Marjoe Gortner (!!) + Angie Dickinson & Lorraine Gary. Folks may forget that Shat’s theatrical features include more than the STAR TREK motion pictures: THE DEVIL’S RAIN; THE KIDNAPPING OF THE PRESIDENT; VISITING HOURS; AIRPLANE II: THE SEQUEL and, the subject our episode, KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS. KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS is part of the subgenre of films we love: the nature-runs-amok-and-strikes-back genre which includes DAYS OF THE ANIMALS (all animals attack); FROGS (frogs attack); NIGHT OF THE LEPUS (giant bunnies attck); SSSSSSS (sssssnakessss attack); PHASE IV (little ants attack): EMPIRE OF THE ANTS (giant ants attack); a few movies about bees attacking; SQUIRM (somehow, worms attack); and yes, you know JAWS, JAWS 2 etc. In this one, we get to see spiders attack. If the Shat seems to be dialing his Shatner-ness back somewhat (this isn’t the Shatner of STAR TREK V), remember that the Shat remains a singular actor and he gives us a lot to talk about. Shat certainly has a way with the ladies in this flick – part Donald Trump, part Pepe Le Peu, all creepy, sleazy sexual predator. We hope you take a listen to this week’s episode so you can hear our thoughts about KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS and where, in the pantheon of spider flicks this one falls: is it as good as 1955’s TARANTULA? No but that 1955 flick is a personal, nostalgic favorite. Is KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS as unintentionally funny as 1975’s THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION? No, alas. Does KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS feature incredible rock-n-roll songs like 1958’s EARTH VS THE SPIDER. No, but there are plenty of songs in KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS and we play every damn one of ‘em on the show because they are amazing.

Here's a fun concept - take something as boring to watch as bowling and then make a movie that is just as boring about said boring thing. You've then got a very accurate representation of something super boring. Wow. Thanks a lot bowling movie. Dreamer is arguably the most boring movie ever made. There's levels of bad that are definitely worse as far as film-making. See Manos, Monster-a-Go-Go, Sssssss, and so forth come to mind. The good thing about all those films is that there's at least something to either hate, scratch your head over, or just be angry about. This causes no emotions on any level. Its the least interesting film we've ever seen. Ever. No question. I don't even know how to write an entire review. I guess I'll try to write the synopsis so here goes: Dreamer is about a guy who bowls. So that's the synopsis. There's no plot to talk about. There's no events or character journeys. Oh a guy bowls himself to death, but even that is shot boringly.  Don't watch Dreamer under any circumstances unless you are trying to clear out house guests but that might not work because they'll just fall asleep on your couch.  However, our podcast is quite funny so be sure to check that out.
