The Governor's Office of Foundation Liaison commissioned Citizens Research Council of Michigan and Altarum* to conduct a comprehensive data analysis of Michigan's population, economic and environmental conditions to help answer a fundamental question: In what direction is Michigan heading? Citizens Research Council was thrilled to work with Bridge Michigan as guest hosts for this special series of podcasts covering this five-part research series, entitled “Michigan's Path to a Prosperous Future: Challenges and Opportunities.” The analysis found that Michigan has been losing ground over the past five decades. It has fallen behind other states in population growth, jobs, earnings, educational achievement, health, and the quality of public services at the state and local levels. Too few interstate immigrants target Michigan as a destination, international immigration has fallen, and too many young Michigan residents are leaving. Research Council analysts sat down with Bridge Michigan journalists Jonathan Oosting and Lauren Gibbons to discuss each of the five papers: Population and Demographic Trends Economy, Workforce, and Talent Health Trends Infrastructure, Environment, and Preparedness for Climate Change Public Sector These podcasts dig into how Michigan now finds itself in the bottom third of national rankings, including 34th in household income, 36th in K-12 educational outcomes, 39th in health outcomes, 45th in electric service reliability, and 47th in road condition. Absent policy changes and investments, Michigan's current path will lead to a shrinking population and continuing declines in the state's competitiveness and quality of life. Despite the sobering statistics, there research also shows there is a real opportunity to alter this path with policies that retain young residents and attract domestic and international immigrants to Michigan. The technical meeting was not conclusive, but the text sets the basis for future discussions. Political groups in the Parliament have until Friday (18 November) to submit written feedback to the rapporteur. Electronic communications data At the core of the discussion was the article defining under which conditions electronic communications data can be processed, namely only insofar as it is strictly necessary to achieve the transmission of the communication and ensure the security of the communications networks. “The necessity of the processing of electronic communications data for the purposes provided for in this Regulation should be assessed only on the basis of objective technical requirements, and not be based on commercial considerations,” reads a newly proposed paragraph for the text's preamble. Additional wording was introduced to cover specific cases where the storage of the transmitted electronic communication is part of the users' communication request, for instance, for email services where the emails are stored on a cloud where the user can search for them at a later stage. As regards the security aspect, the EU policymakers proposed specifying that service providers cannot process data stored in or emitted by the users' devices to detect technical faults and errors, an attempt to compromise with the lawmakers who deleted this point altogether. The thorny issue of data retention was put on hold for the moment. Electronic communications metadata Another critical point for discussion in the ePrivacy Regulation is metadata, information related to who is communicating and how, for instance, in terms of time, location, and IP address. Metadata processing can only be permitted under specific scenarios in the compromise text. One of these is that the users gave their explicit consent for one or more purposes that cannot be fulfilled without such metadata. However, if there is a high risk of endangering

A slightly adjusted noise pattern on Mario Kart 8's grass texture means Nintendo's perceived laziness has dropped by roughly 40%. Do you ever find yourself drying out, creatively speaking? It can be hard to feel inspired to shoot when you've been in the photography business for years and years. As Hugh Whitaker shares, what you need is a method for re-discovering your original reason for photographing in the first place. Hugh is an extremely talented photographer who's been in the industry for over 15 years. A Junebug award winner and a Rangefinder Rising Star, Hugh also co-founder of the Refresh Workshop, which helps photographers re-find creativity in their art when they're feeling uninspired. He also spoke at the ARC Experience last year, and will be a keynote speaker this year. Today, we talk about how inspiration can be stimulated and manufactured, rather than waiting for it to strike, as well as how his wedding photography, stock photography, and personal work all interplay, and the difference between stock photography and other types of photography. We also talk about some of the places that Hugh has looked to for inspiration, and - hilariously - some big mistakes he made when he first started out.
